Shrugging a bit, Nolan used his one free hand to point his pokedex at Litwick so he could read the entries. And according again to Des's warning, Nolan pulled the Candle Pokemon up again to his chest. Litwick just thought these humans were so silly and giggled silently, his flame flickering merrily. Nolan decided now was a good time to brush up on his pokemon knowledge, and do some research about the other pokemon he had. Distracted by his reading, Nolan only looked up slightly when Des's phone went off. But he put down the pokedex when the Ranger spoke to him. "Is it your Aerodactyl? I wish I got that lucky, but I think the rarest thing I've gotten was that Trapinch that chomped on me." That didn't sound very lucky, but of course Nolan meant capturing a shiny pokemon. He just didn't see the point in different colored pokemon like Kiera did with her blue Yanma. He looked back down on the entries on Torkoal. "Well, I still have some food I brought from Blyse. Thanks again for all your help. Wish me luck, I'll try the gym early tomorrow morning." Nolan did want some alone time, so he might have hurried that last part of the conversation, and it was so nice to actually have a room in the pokecenter. That was the nicest thing about being slightly ahead of the other rookies, is that he finally got a room all his own to spend the night. Placing the Litwick down on the small side table next to the simple twin bed, Nolan sighed as he finally got to sit down and rest. The little Candle hopped a little closer, leaning towards the edge of the table to look over at Nolan. He giggled again silently, and Nolan went through his bag, upending it on the floor so he could start sorting through it. He put aside all his pokeballs, tossed his journal onto the bed for later, and getting the small first aid he packed, now Nolan carefully peeled off his shoe. His sock was red and brown with dried blood, making him wince. When all was said and done, the row of bite marks he had sustained from the Trapinch only looked bad because they were discolored and slightly swollen. Nolan could still walk just fine, and he meticulously cleaned the bite and bandaged it. Limping a little around the room, Nolan spread out his clothing to get the sand out of them and air them out. Then he sat on the bed, taking his journal to write down what notes he wanted to keep from the pokedex entries. Des headed off to his room after wishing Nolan luck and a good luck. There were a number of messages he had from both the Ranger Academy and Team Celestia, so once those were dealt with accordingly he took his medicine and went to sleep. Des was already up by the time the sun started to peak over the desert horizon, and he returned his room key before heading out, going back to Blyse City. "Good luck, kid. The gym shouldn't be too difficult, but we'll see. Maybe you'll be a prey worthy of hunting when we meet again." he muttered with a smirk at the fort's gates. ~~~~~~ To: Valerian's Lab55

Early the next morning, Nolan woke up with his body feeling sore and stiff all over. He wasn't used to so much activity and walking all day. Making use of the pokecenter's facility, Nolan took a much longer than needed shower, just letting the hot water relax his muscles. After checking his bite mark and re-bandaging his foot, Nolan dressed, thanked the attendant in the pokecenter, and let out his pokemon outside so they could eat breakfast with him. It felt amazing to be clean again and to get some cooked food in him. Silent and focused on the gym battle ahead of him, Nolan didn't say much to his pokemon, and now with Des gone, he took the time to go over yesterday's lessons. Valor was the clown of the group, trying to get Torkoal to play with him, while all the Coal pokemon wanted to do was slowly chew his food. It was starting to get expensive to feed all his pokemon, especially Dosu. Nolan knew he still needed to figure something out before he went totally broke again. Where was the magical bottomless stew pot when he needed one? He'd have to start to learn how to forage if anything. Maybe they had a book on it he could read. Brushing off his hands and tossing the apple core to Hippopotas, Nolan stood and his pokemon had already finished their breakfast. Nolan returned all of his pokemon to their pokeballs, and started to the gym, not really dreading the upcoming battle at all. 'Wow, so this is what confidence felt like. I'm so funny.' From Ammoa Gym VS ChaelPost 251 Tsuki: 2 Chael walked out of the gym the night before, successful in his challenge. He had gone to sleep at the Pokemon Center, not running into Nolan or the ranger, who's name he wasn't certain. The nurse said the other trainer went to the gym a bit earlier so Chael would wait for a bit. He walked out, after he changed his clothes and had something to eat. Day four. It was hot outside but Chael wanted to see his hand at catching a Trapinch. He wasn't into dragons but this breed looked interesting enough, resembling dragonflies. And he was a bug type fan after all. After healing his pokemon, Nolan left the Fort just so Dosu wouldn't give anyone any trouble should they look at the Gyarados funny. Then he let out all his pokemon once he reached the shade on the side of the Fort, tossing all six pokeballs, and passed out a bottle of lemonade for each of them. Opening lids for them except Servine, who had hands, Nolan rested his back against the fort's wall. It felt nice to just relax, Valor laying down at his feet, Servine and Litwick at his side. Hippopotas buried herself in sand after letting Nolan dump the entire lemonade into her mouth, and Gyarados took up the rest of the shade. Dosu had eaten the lemonade, bottle and all, crunched it up and spit out the shredded plastic. Valor played with his half-empty bottle and was still batting it back and forth between his paws after Nolan capped it again. Litwick wasn't interested in anything so silly as liquid, so Nolan had his. Torkoal wasn't bothered at all by the heat, wandering around and coming back now and again for Nolan to trickle a little more lemonade down his throat. Post 252 Tsuki: 3 Them being common, he found one. A female by the looks of it, she opened her jaw, waiting for a reaction. Chael sent out Argos, who blasted it with a Water Gun. Being super effective, she was certainly hurt. "Ok, step back." Chael ordered as he began to lug Pokeballs at the termite. Nolan would find the younger, who gave him a wave. The boy had beaten the gym the day before and didn't think to check for him, having just fallen asleep after. (( My goal for today is to evolve my Luxio at level 30. )) Nolan waved back at Chael, but it was hard to miss the other trainer, since there wasn't much out there in a desert. Brushing the sand off his duster, Nolan stood carefully, disturbing Dosu's nap, but with a few shushes and patting the Gyarados's nose, the Atrocious pokemon was lulled back into sleep. Valor didn't want to be left behind, and fell into step with Nolan, with Servine bringing up the rear. The rest of Nolan's pokemon stayed behind, taking their well deserved breaks. Nolan stopped short when he spotted what Argos had shot his Water Gun at. The last thing he wanted was to get another Trapinch ... pinch. "Why are you catching that thing? Don't you already have a Ground type pokemon?" So maybe he was a little prejudiced against Trapinch. Servine nodded to the gator, acknowledging Argos. Valor just meowed playfully, and pawed at the edge of the sand pit, much to Nolan's alarm. Nolan slapped his own forehead, trying to make his brain work correctly. "Some reason I just assumed you had beaten it with no trouble. I ... um, barely squeaked by. ((I just caught me a shiny Pokemanz. Rolls are in the rolls thread. heart )) Post 254 Tsuki: 5 How was he to say he eat the gym without having any of his Pokemon KO'd? From what Nolan said, he sounded like they were both on their last Pokemon, sliver of HP left. "She, um, uh... she almost managed to knock out my Darumaka." he said, trying to not make it look like it had been too short of a match. And something about Nolan telling him he assumed he got by without a sweat was weird. But Chael would take it as a complement. Another Trapinch jumped Chael, only to be rock blocked (hehe, punny) by Epsilon. Another female and this one looked stronger. Probably level 17. And his one was shiny. "Mega Punch." Chael said, seeing Epsilon punch her in the face. Taking out his premier ball, he caught her. The ball turned into a red energy and went to the PC. Ok, he might have had a liiiiiiiiiittle bit of luck here. Nolan sighed, looking downcast. He could tell that Chael was just trying not to make him feel bad, but then again, Nolan felt prepared, so he had no excuse. He made serious calculation errors. It would have been fine if it wasn't for Dig taking an extra turn, and if it wasn't for that one paralysis, but that was luck "Well, you made that look easy too. That one was shiny. I think I've seen ... yeah, almost all shiny Trapinch. Congrats on the catch, man." "I'm going to go switch out my Torkoal. I want to get to know my Aron, and then we can start out towards the Ruins. If you want." Returning to his pokemon, Nolan recalled the group, save Servine and Luxio so they could continuing following him. He just felt better with a couple pokemon at his side. Swapping pokemon around, Nolan walked back outside of the Fort, looking for Chael to see if he was ready to go. "Oh, I know about Machamp. Something about the electricity or something helps them evolve when they're with people. I'm pretty sure you mean you want him traded right back." Nolan was feeling talkative. "You scared me for a second. I'm not sure I want to trade any of my pokemon again. I lucked out last time since my Litwick is a great pokemon." Nolan was kind of lying to himself, knowing that Litwick still gave him the willies. He was just going to ignore it, and resolutely say that Litwick was certainly his favorite ghost type. Or well, the only ghost type he could stand right now. Damn, he needed to do something with Shedinja. But speaking of questions, while they started traveling back towards the Ruins, Nolan asked, "So, this is kind of random, but what did you want to become after you finish your gym challenge?" He'd figuratively punch his face in via Pokemon battle the next time they met. Fear would like that. The strangely unevolved rodent made a low hiss on her trainers shoulder, remembering the man. The last question made him think. "I'll probably go back to Johto to finish school. I don't really want to be an illiterate moron who only battles. After that, I dunno." he said. Of course he wanted to try his hand at being Champion first. Maybe for a month or two then resign and get some education.
