Walking into the gym, Nolan didn't really know what to expect from a place in the middle of the fort. But he was feeling pretty good with his pokemon line up, knowing this will be a cinch with Dosu. Well, that was the plan anyway, but Nolan knew that everything never happened so smoothly. No reason to beat himself up about a loss before the battle even started. "Hello? I'm here to take the gym challenge! ... Please." Just to keep things rolling, Nolan threw the pokeball for his first choice - Dosu - and the Gyarados formed from the light, feeling great after the long rest and heal. Remembering the Ranger's advice, Nolan knew which he'd use second and third, but wouldn't reveal his strategic ploy so soon. "Hello my name is Jocelyn and I'm the gym leader in Ammoa. How have you liked your stay so far?" She smiled gently and looked at the Gyarados in her gym. "Oh dear what a well behaved Gyarados. Are you sure you're only on your second gym battle?" She laughed softly and threw the PokeBall for Mawile, her first pokemon always in gym battles. "If you're ready then we can get started, or can I get you something to drink first? Iced tea, lemonade? We have bottled water. The match is three vs three with no items." 1. Sweating a bit in the hot sun, Nolan perked up at the offer of something to cold to drink. "Oh, a lemonade, please! But uh, I can wait. How about ... how about, can I have lemonade for all my pokemon if I win? I'm going to do my best though." "GYOOOO!"Dosu jumped the gun - so much for being well-behaved - and roaring, used his Intimidate ability, shadowing over the Mawile with a glare that shot daggers. The thought of winning lemonade for the group had edged the Gyarados on into attacking too soon. Nolan could already see his Gyarados start to lunge for the bite. That wasn't the plan, so Nolan shouted all in one big mush of words. "UseDragonRage,Dosu!" The Gyarados paused for a split-second, and then his open mouth instead shot a flare of blue dragon fire at the Mawile, sweeping side to side. "I don't mind at all sharing with all your pokemon. If you win it'll be a party for everyone!" She smiled sweetly and opened up her parasol to shade herself from the hot sun. It beat down from the open glass windows in the roof. The arena was hard packed soil and several large rocks stood around and were big enough for a man to hide behind. Mawile shivered a little from the Intimidate and because of her own ability Hyper Cutter her attack wasn't lowered. Jocelyn was proud how brave her Mawile was. She almost went for a Tickle to start things off because it would be funny to watch a mean ol' Gyardos laugh. Dragon Rage did fixed damage which meant Tickle that didn't really help her at all. "Faint Attack Mawile!" Mawile got a face full of dragon fire but then she faded out of view and drew up to Gyarados. Never missing, Mawile reappeared right on top of Dosu's head and used her horn-jaws to grab onto his crest. Then she swung up and kicked the Gyarados in the face. 1. Nolan knew right away this could be bad if the Mawile held on. "Shake her off! Shake your head as hard as you can!" Dosu thrashed his head back and forth, up and down, and even twirled the Mawile in circles in order to fling her off his crest. Then with one quick lash, dislodged the Mawile and roared mightily at the pokemon. Nolan felt his heart jump with pride. Dosu was a monster, and he was HIS monster. "Dragon Rage, now!" The Gyarados opened his mouth again, the frills on the sides of his head fanning outwards and vibrating in a threatening display. Dosu again breathed the strange blue fire at Mawile down on the ground. "Oh dear." Jocelyn held her breath. Mawile had gotten in a good ViceGrip when she grabbed on but it wasn't enough. Mawile was strong and had great defenses but Dragon Rage and the Gyarados ignored all of that. This time when the fire spread over Mawile, she teetered and tottered and then falled over. Jocelyn returned Mawile to her PokeBall and sighed. "I'm afraid this battle isn't over yet. Go Magnezone." She said quietly and thew the PokeBall. The metallic pokemon formed from the light and buzzed noisily. "Use your Electro Ball." The move wouldn't do much damage because of how slow Magnezone was but Jocelyn was hoping the 4x weakness Gyarados had would be enough to knock out Dosu. 1. One for one, but Nolan was ahead because he knocked out the Mawile first. And Dosu was faster than the Magnezone, bravely facing down the electric pokemon despite his weaknesses. Nolan itched to return his Gyarados, his hand already on Dosu's Repeat Ball, but first, he needed his pokemon to absorb the attack to keep his lead. 'Please forgive me for this one, Dosu."Quickly! Use your Dragon Rage on Magnezone." For the third time, Dosu exhaled the blue flames, and the ball of electricity shot towards him just as the fire washed over Magnezone. Dosu cried out when the electricity hit, rearing back in pain, and Nolan was already returning his knocked out Gyarados before Dosu had to endure any more. Next up, his Litwick, no matter how nervous the Candle made him. The foot tall pokemon formed in the arena, and Nolan winced inwardly. But he knew that small sizes could hide immense strength. And Litwick had a great move. "Flame Burst!" No sooner than Nolan had said it, a tiny ball of roiling fire formed in front of the candlestick and shot at Magnezone, exploding on contact. Each pokemon was trading hit for hit. And even as Nolan instructed Litwick, Jocelyn was telling her Magnezone exactly what to do next. "Use your Thunder Wave!" Magnezone barely let off the waves of electricity towards the Litwick and then was hit by the Flame Burst. Knocked backwards from the explosion Magnezone quickly caught itself and resumed floating. A little scorched but still ready to fight and Joceyln was so happy with her pokemon for being so strong and holding on. 1. Oh no, not this again. Litwick was paralyzed and unable to make a move! Nolan nearly felt like crying. He almost wanted to storm out again, but he couldn't, right? He was still winning, he hoped. So all he could do was wait it out. "Come on, hang tough, Litwick ..." Jocelyn felt for Nolan but she was a gym leader and she couldn't be weak because of sentimentality. A pokemon battle was a pokemon battle and he had to earn his badge from her. She didn't give out freebies. "Now, use your Flash Cannon." Magnezone nodded his whole body and a glow of light flashed on his metal body. Rolling sideways after the blow, and then hopping back up to its little candlestick bottom, Litwick was for another attack. He shook it off, feeling better after getting hit by Flash Cannon oddly. The flame on Litwick's head flared, battle-spirit burning brightly, and Nolan noticed he wasn't feeling too well all of a sudden. Damned ghosts, but for now ... it was okay. He'd worry about it later. "Another Flame Burst!" A second small orb of fire zipped right at Magnezone, again the purple-red flames exploding on impact. After two Flame Bursts and a Dragon Rage, Magnezone was finally down. Yet the Steel pokemon was faster now than the paralyzed Litwick and it managed to get off one more attack. It shot one last Flash Cannon. Then it buzzed and brapped and tweedled and fell to the ground with a heavy clunk. Jocelyn smiled sweetly. She was so happy to fight so many strong the trainers. It had been awhile since she had fun like this. She tossed the last PokeBall and knew it could be over soon. Durant had a x4 weakness against first, but maybe they could knocked out the little candlestick first. "Use your Dig!" Durant turned his head right down and started to burrow through the soil. Now it was Litwick's turn to the do the teetering dance, trying to keep his balance after the second Flash Cannon. Nolan knew that maybe the Candle had one more attack in him, but what if he was paralyzed again? Could he even attack before the Durant knocked him out? Deciding quickly, wishing he had Magnitude or Earthquake at his disposal, Nolan tossed the pokeball for his Hippopotas after he recalled Litwick. OOC: Sorry for the wait. I was asking a few questions about the gym. Jocelyn nodded because she respected Nolan's choice to switch out his pokemon. Durant would have knocked out Litwick easily and not taken a lick of a damage either. She giggled a little unlady-like and cleared her throat. "Come up already Durant and use that Dig of yours!" The Sandstorm didn't hurt Durant because he was a Steel type and he rammed into the Hippopotas from underneath. 1.
