Jocelyn yawned too but she wasn't going to fall asleep. Watching the Hippo yawn had made her sleepy for a second but then she was fine. "Oh dear this looks bad for us Durant. We'll have to hope we're lucky. Use your Metal Claw quickly." The ant burst forward again in such a big rush and brandished his jaws at the Hippo. He slashed past the Hippo and then stopped, getting drowsy. Durant's eyes drooped and then he fell asleep.

Cocoa flinched when she was smacked in the nose by the ant. This thing was brutal! And thinking ahead, Nolan suddenly saw a flaw in his plan. Dig took two turns, and it would waste that time that Durant was sleep ... what a horrible move. He was going to replace that one as soon as possible. He should have kept Sand Tomb instead, despite how weak it was, but oh well. Biting his bottom lip and groaning, he just went for it.
"Well, use Dig!"

Cocoa started to dig with her front legs, moving the sand and soil aside, and she quickly sunk down into the ground.

(( Officially I would lose this match because of paralysis making Litwick really slow, while Durant is already a speedy pokemon. But ... well, I'll leave that up to you. ))



Taking three Hustle boosted attacks, Hippopotas couldn't hold on any longer. Her legs shook and she croaked at Durant after the ant passed by again, slashing her with his jaws like claws. Now it was Nolan turn to wince. This was getting way too close. But damnit, why didn't Durant go down? Wasn't Ground moves super effective against Steel? Too bad he didn't factor in the fact that Durant was only weak to fire, and he had already weakened his Litwick against Magnezone. Cocoa went down, and Nolan recalled her with a heavy heart.

One move left, one pokemon left that he wasn't even sure he could rely on.
"Go, Litwick! You're my one! You have to hit it with a Flame Burst."
The Candle didn't even so much as look at Nolan, focused on the Durant, and the small light of fire sped at the bug to explode on its shell.

Nolan breathed a huge sigh of relief, his heart still pounding. He wasn't sure what was going to happen, but Litwick had come through in the pinch for him. The little Candle wavered, his flame diminishing, and Nolan hurried over with his limp to pick up the small pokemon - still wearing his gloves, don't worry. Just resting in the palm of his hand, Litwick smiled and said something so softly it couldn't be heard, and rested its head against Nolan's thumb.

Nolan blinked in surprise as Jocelyn came over to him and conferred him with the official league badge for winning the battle. As well as a small jingle bell, along with the TM disk. He smiled back, unable to help himself.
"Thank you." He said, his voice a little hoarse from yelling over the Sandstorm and Dosu's cries. Nolan collected his prizes and put them in his bag. Then carrying his Litwick, gathered up the lemonade for each of his pokemon and headed straight to the pokecenter to heal them up.

He had done it! His second gym badge, and yet it was much too close for comfort. Nolan was just happy he would be able to show Des the badge when the Ranger got back. For now, Nolan was going to take a well deserved break along with his pokemon.
