  • No drama unless it's the RP story sort of drama! For any reason whatsoever. This is a game, on a spiffy internet forum. Seriously.

  • Don't post here unless I've given you explicit permission to do so! I personally like to roleplay via AIM or in the shop thread. That way I can document things here and it'll be all neat and organized without a bazillion different posts just to tell one story. Also -- gifts need to be delivered to my PM inbox, not here! Apologies in advance for my being utterly OCD.

  • Nothing here is common knowledge! That means that the things that you read here are not things that your character should know unless the info has been released to them via RP.

  • Don't take things that happen in RP personally. My characters are warped. I'm sorry, but that's how my brain works. ;o;

  • You may take any images or RP logs your character(s) are featured in. I usually compile RP logs as I am roleplaying to ensure that I have it, and sometimes I like to illustrate things. So yeah, feel free to take anything that has your characters in it. You don't have to ask for my permission or anything.

  • These rules are subject to modification. So make sure you check back here ever so often, hm?

Athan is a man who greatly appreciates his privacy. He keeps his thoughts and feelings closely guarded. He's not the sort to keep friends, though he does seem to have a growing relationship with a woman by the name of Reyna Crelos. They run a jewelry store together called Twilight Designs. It's actually a smokescreen for the headquarters of creatures he helps bring to life called Shadow Fiends.

These creatures are actually derived from stones and precious gems that have had souls sealed away inside of them. It was an old comrade of his that actually went about locking people away in the gems, and he has taken it upon himself to release them due to feelings of guilt and responsibility.

He is not actually from Gaia, but from a world in a different dimension. The life span of his race is typically quite long, though they are mortal and therefore prone to illness and disease the same way most humans are. His people are also naturally gifted with the ability to use magic depending upon what element they are aligned with, and Athan is no exception to this.

He is aligned with earth, though he has forfeited a lot of his natural magic for that of shadow and darkness to prolong his lifespan even longer and to help him release Fiends.

Appearance-wise, Athan is almost always shrouded in shadows and dark robes, though since the battle with Doran he can be more frequently seen in 'normal' clothes, so to speak. Even so, the color of his wardrobe never varies and is always black. The only color lent to his clothing is from an emerald pendant he can often be seen with and a belt he wears that has various green stones dangling off it from one side. All of the stones serve a specific purpose when it comes to his magic and he is never seen without them.

His eyes always glow an eerie sort of green. This is due to the nature of the magic he uses as it is very much a part of him. His hair is deep, blue-black sort of color and is always tied back away from his face and is dread-locked. His skin is lightly tanned, but usually his black clothing makes him look much paler than he really is. He's also quite tall, hovering somewhere around six feet tall.

Protection for thee
from the highest,
from the the heart,
from a father's love,
from all above,
so shall it be.

'Nesh was previously part of a different shop all together, but it was decided to have him become a part of The Cabbage Patch instead. This was my flatsale entry in which I won him, and will serve as the basis for his personality and abilities.

Prompt 1 Response:

It was easier said than done, sneaking to and from Athan's house. The man had wards, spells, traps, and tricks lurking around every corner. It was a thief's worst nightmare. Luckily for him, he was no thief, and after having lived with his dear, old uncle for so long, he knew exactly where every trap lay. It had taken quite a bit of time and effort on his part to figure them all out. He was rather proud of himself. He'd only been caught once, and he'd been near enough to the kitchen to blame it on wanting a midnight snack.

He had to admit he was somewhat curious as to why his guardian felt it necessary to protect his home in such a manner since he had no apparent enemies - at least not any he hadn't outlived or otherwise done away with. Oh yes, he'd heard enough stories from Reyna to know of Doran and other such men and creatures that loathed his uncle to no end. Perhaps it was simple paranoia and force of habit that made him think that the excessive wards were necessary.

Either way, Holicinesh had no time to waste on pondering his uncle's erratic behavior. He had other plans for the evening and time was against him. Athan would wake from where he'd fallen asleep in his study around three a.m. and it was already nearing midnight. He had wanted to leave earlier, but a certain pesky fairy had decided to take up residence in his room and otherwise be a nosy brat. Sometimes he suspected that Athan kept Lorelei around simply to spy upon him.

Regardless, he wasn't about to let some silly feien ruin his plans. He was nearly finished with deciphering a scroll he had come across within his uncle's library. The trouble was, the text was only visible in the light of a full moon and was written in a terribly archaic language that was tedious to translate. He was certain tonight was the night that his months of hard work would finally pay off. He had only a few sentences left to interpret, and then he would be able to figure out what sort of secrets were contained within the ancient texts.

He was so excited he could barely contain himself. Butterflies danced in his stomach, and he knew without a doubt there was a stupid looking grin plastered across his face. Before he could make a mad dash for his hiding spot near the lake, he first had to disarm the locks on the front door or he'd be unable to get back inside later. He sucked in a quiet breath as he glanced around him to make sure there was no Lorelei, sprites, shadows, pixies, or other troublesome creatures around that would run and tattle on him.

Once he decided the coast was clear he reached out towards the door with one hand. A bright, shining circle of silver light appeared on the wood, and one by one different runes appeared in the center to remove the various wards that kept the door firmly locked during the night. He then pressed his palm flat against the door to make sure Athan hadn't created anything new to surprise him with.

Satisfied, he slipped out the door silently and made his way towards his favorite hiding spot. He smiled to himself and settled in amongst the overgrown roots of and ancient tree near the water's edge. The night was perfect. Not too hot, not too cold, and the moonlight reflected flawlessly off the lake. Gingerly he laid out the scroll and his notes to pick up where he'd left off.

He continuously checked his watch to ensure he didn't stay too long. Athan would probably be too distracted with his own studies to wonder why he wasn't in bed sound asleep, anyway, but being caught wasn't exactly a risk he wanted to run. He frowned to himself as he stared down at the scroll quizzically. Clouds kept drifting across the sky and obscuring his moonlight. With a sigh he decided to give in for the night. It was better to try again when the skies were clear. Making a mistake in his translation just for the sake of completing it wasn't the wisest of ideas.

With a yawn Holicinesh trudged back towards the house, pausing only briefly near the edge of the tree line to make sure no one was watching. He dragged himself up the steps and slipped inside easily enough. It wasn't until he rounded the corner to head down the hallway that lead to his room that he noticed something was off.

The house was entirely silent.

It struck him as strange. The house always creaked and shifted during the night. Plus there was usually the faint noise of some sort of small creature skittering about. Nothing seemed out of place though. Perhaps he was just growing as paranoid as Athan seemed to be.

He bit back a quiet chuckle at that thought and continued on his way towards his room. It wasn't until he reached his bedroom door that he figured out what was out of place. Unfortunately, he noticed a split second too late as one of the wards triggered. His eyes went wide and he managed a startled noise before going rigidly still as the spell took effect. It rendered him unable to move or speak. Essentially, he was frozen in place.

Though unable to show it, he was positively fuming. How had he possibly missed THAT?! He was absolutely certain he'd disarmed everything in his path. He'd been doing this for months on end flawlessly. It didn't make sense! At least it didn't until a shadow fell across him, blocking the flickering light of the small illuminated jars that lined the hallway.

Athan sighed heavily and crossed his arms over his chest. “I figured it was you sneaking about at all hours of the night,” he spoke up after a long moment of awkward silence. With a wave of his hand he drew away the spell that bound Holicinesh, sending him tumbling forward as he struggled to regain his balance.

He cursed under his breath as his moment of clumsiness sent his notes flying. He scrambled to pick it all up, but stopped in his tracks when Athan bent down and picked up the scroll. Now he was in for it. He'd removed an artifact from the library, was out way past his curfew, and in doing so had tampered with much of Athan's own spell work.

With thoughts of what exactly his punishment might entail parading rampantly through his head, he glanced up at Athan with a look of horror. He was so doomed. To his confusion, his uncle hardly looked angry. Instead, he was closely examining a page of his notes. He closed his eyes and simply waited for the retribution he knew was surely on it's way.

“Is this what you've been up to?” Athan asked, a serious look on his face.

Holicinesh sighed as he glanced up to meet his uncle's gaze. He knew that tone of voice. It demanded an explanation and there was no escaping the truth. “Yes, Uncle,” he muttered with a frown. He had been so terribly close to finishing, too!

“You know.. I always translated the line 'lisserayne elasyne' as 'midnight garden' rather than 'eden of midnight.' I think you may be on to something,” Athan replied conversationally. “And for the record,” he went on, “There is an easier way to read the scroll than trekking into the woods in the middle of the night at unseemly hours.”

Athan bent to help gather up the rest of the papers that littered the floor before helping Holicinesh to his feet. “And there is also an easier way to go about disarming wards and traps. Really. How tedious! Removing and replacing every single one that way. If it weren't for the fact that your findings and notes on the scroll is rather impressive, I'd think I've failed at teaching you any sense at all.”

“So you're not mad?” Holicinesh asked tentatively. That sounded suspiciously like the scolding he'd been waiting for, but he felt as though he'd been let off a little too easy. Athan wasn't exactly known for his lenience.

“Hardly. The Moonlight Scrolls of the Alisari have served as a fascination for up and coming students of magic for centuries on end. Don't think for a second you're the only one who snuck out at inane hours to read them,” Athan informed him with a suspicious looking smirk.

“So... I'm not in trouble?”

“No,” Athan replied as he turned away to pad silently back down the hallway, “But for the record, next time you want to examine a scroll or something of that sort, all you have to do is ask.” He shook his head and muttered something under his breath that Holicinesh didn't quite catch.

He stood there, frozen in place as though the spell still had him in its grasp. He wasn't in trouble. AND, he essentially had permission to rummage through the library of his own accord! He tensed slightly as Athan stopped and turned on his heel to face him once more. Surely he'd rethought the situation... or worse.

“I don't suppose you're too tired from your late-night escapade to discuss your notes over a cup of tea?” Athan prompted, “The sun scrolls will be visible at daybreak, if you'd like to take a look at them.”

“Absolutely!” Holicinesh all but cheered before he managed to contain himself and his excitement with a bit more composure.

He had a suspicious feeling that he once more had that stupid grin on his face. For the moment, he decided he couldn't quite bring himself to care.

Prompt 2 Response:

A small smirk tugged at Holicinesh's mouth. The book he held before him contained some of the most powerful spells he'd ever come across. Normally, temptation was something he was perfectly capable of resisting. He knew it well from his studies alone, and he knew what sort of power came from the dark arts. His uncle preached enough on the subject, but this was just too much to deny.

Perhaps what made it even sweeter was that he recognized the neat, tidy handwriting to the some of the spells contained within the book. Who'd have thought that Athan would have had it in him? The man was such a hypocrite. Really. And after all his blabbering about balance and consequences.

At least one thing was for certain - there was no reason for him to allow Athan to continue holding him back in his studies. He was as skilled as any mage, and after all, he was the God of Magic. It was his destiny. He was meant to be powerful, and he had every intention of testing out that power for himself. Athan hardly had any excuse to stop him now.

Holicinesh closed the book and tucked it under his arm before turning to leave. He stopped dead in his tracks when he found himself face to face with Athan. He held his ground and did not back away or falter in the slightest. “Hello Uncle.”

“That book is off limits and you know it.”

The young man sighed in exasperation and pushed his glasses further up his nose. “Uncle? Back off. You've no business ordering me around any longer. Soon enough I will have reached my final form, and while yes, it will be nothing near what I once was before falling out of power, I will be infinitely more powerful than you.”

Athan's normal calm, cool composure seemed to fracture and splinter away. The anger written across his features was fierce. “Power isn't everything, Holicinesh,” he grated out between clenched teeth, “Trust me. I know that with an absolute certainty you can't even begin to fathom.”

“Says the man who had a hand in creating THIS,” Holic retorted as he held the book out in front of Athan tauntingly, “Really. I never knew it was possible to truly sever a soul from a person's body. You've made some interesting discoveries in your long life, Uncle. You should be proud.”

“Have I taught you nothing? Have you learned absolutely NOTHING from the time you've stayed here under my care?!” Athan all but hissed, eyes glowing bright. His entire form was rigid and tense, like a snake about to strike. “You will return that book to me this instant!”

“Oh I think not,” Holicinesh answered smoothly, “It is of my realm, and therefore my property as much as it is yours. I honestly fail to see why you believe you've a say in the matter anyway. I fully intend to use the spells contained within this tome, and there is nothing within your power you can do to stop me. Deal with it.”

“Deal with it?” Athan murmured in a harsh whisper as he took a step back. He drew in a deep breath and an unsettling calm seemed to wash over him, though the anger in his bright eyes did not dim a single fraction. A small smile broke out across his features, but it was not of happiness or cheer. It was pained, and full of grief - a sardonic version of what a smile ought to be.

“I am dealing with it,” he went on, voice eerily quiet, “I've been dealing with my own mistakes for far longer than you can imagine.”

“Spare me,” Holicinesh replied with a roll of his eyes as he moved to turn away. He paused only for a moment when he felt something creeping along the edges of his senses. His eyes widened slightly and he froze, muscles tense. He wasn't casting a spell was he? How foolish! He shook his head and turned once more to face the man that had been his guardian for so long.

“Really Uncle,” he spoke up, “You're wasting your ti--”

His jaw dropped open, somewhat horrified. It wasn't a spell. He'd always known the man hid his aura, but he had thought it simply part of his paranoia. This was entirely unexpected. His head tilted to the side as he openly gawked at Athan.

Most magic-users, whether they are aware of it or not, are fully entwined with their magic. The more it is used, the more visible it is within a person's aura - namely the reflection of their soul. To those sensitive to magic, an aura is like a fingerprint. It identifies a person and traces of it are left behind when that individual casts a spell.

Athan's was tainted. It was a sickly black and fragmented in places as though his very soul was falling apart - like part of it was missing. The only thing that seemed to be keeping it all together, and in turn keeping him alive, was a bright blue crest that pulsated a soft glow of light within all the darkness.

“Trust me when I say nothing good can come from that book,” Athan replied. He had a sickly pallor about him and he looked incredibly frail.

“I won't make the mistakes you did,” Holicinesh protested. He wasn't like him. If it killed him, so what? He'd be reincarnated and he would learn from his previous mistakes.

“You are MISSING the point!” he all but roared. His frail form hardly seemed strong enough to merit such a powerful voice. “I have spent countless years toiling away in an attempt to fix what chaos has been wrought from that book and the spells contained within! I am still trying to set things right and I will do so until it finally kills me, do you understand that?!”

“I understand that you obviously let the dark arts get the better of you. That much is plainly obvious.”

“Foolish CHILD,” Athan shouted, “I do not suffer this way for the sake of regaining honor lost or just because it is right. I do it so that when I do finally die my soul may rest at peace.” He trembled slightly as he took a step towards Holicinesh, the darkness that surrounded him seemed to reach out towards the young avatar with creeping tendrils. “No matter how you try to harness darkness, realize this - you are as much a slave to it as it is to you.”

Holicinesh fumbled backwards in an effort to get away from Athan as he continued making his way closer. He didn't like admitting it, even to himself, but seeing his uncle in such a state was terrifying. He kept trying to convince himself that he was smarter, and so much wiser than he was. He'd never end up like that.

“I w-won't be like you,” he insisted feebly.

“You can't be certain of that,” Athan replied, voice gentler than it was moments ago, “Fate is a cruel mistress. Particularly when you believe you have the upper hand.” He drew back a step and heaved a heavy sigh, shoulders sagging somewhat from the weight of the burden he bore. “Holicinesh. You have a wonderful gift. You should not let.. it --” he went on before coughing hoarsely into one hand. He tried to catch his breath, but found he couldn't. Normally his coughing spells were rarely severe enough to hinder him so, but he'd exerted far too much energy in his effort to sway the young man that stood before him.

Holicinesh gasped when Athan collapsed to the floor and didn't move or attempt to pull himself to his feet. “U-uncle?” he breathed as he scrambled to his side to check his pulse. Still alive, but most definitely unconscious. He scowled darkly as he heft the man into his arms and carried him off to his bed chambers. It was slightly disturbing how easy it was to lift him. He ought to have weighed more.

He sat quietly in an armchair near the side of the bed while his uncle rested. He looked angry, though whether that anger was directed at his guardian or at himself was unclear. He didn't move from his chair or return to the library to retrieve the book of spells that he had dropped carelessly to the floor. He didn't so much as stir until Athan drew in a deep breath and woke from his slumber.

His green eyes held their familiar glow within the darkness, and a puzzled look graced his features as he took in his surroundings. He certainly did not remember having gone to bed.

“I won't be using the spells,” Holicinesh spoke up, breaking the heavy silence that lingered in the room, “At least not for now. So get some rest and go back to sleep, old man.”

Athan nodded quietly. It was a small relief, as he wouldn't wish his own fate upon those he considered to be his enemies - never mind the ones he loved.

Stone of sheer diplomacy,
make my voice heard.
The point that I must make today
must not be disturbed.
Remove the clouds,
make clear the mark;
as I will, so mote it be
