Personality: Headstrong, proud, loyal, eternal defender of his ideals. Sol, as many Ichsa, believes innately that the world should act as he wishes and he is willing to fight for this. It is not personal gain that he seeks but justice for the good, liberty for the downtrodden and punishment for the wicked. He loves new horizons, new folk, new experiences and would sooner die than be forced to give up his freedom. Intelligent and worldly though he is, his passion for his beliefs and his pride will sometimes cause him to fling himself into combat against the odds. In such cases he often only realises his mistake almost too late leading to injury and a healthy wariness thereof. He is respectful to all he meets until he has the measure of them. If he finds them to be worthy and good he will relax somewhat, though he remains ever well spoken and polite. If however he finds a Nequus to be unworthy of his good opinion they may expect to endure his withering scorn and perhaps even be challenged to a duel.

Location: A wanderer, will probably visit most places at least once in his life.

Sol's Tree is located in the Southeast Quadrant

Physical heath

Excellent. I am myself and more than I have ever been. Even my flight is starting to improve, though I shall never match what Vince was capable of.

Mood

Excellent I am courting Chandara; what more need be said?

Hopes

Find Vince I wish to introduce him to Chandara, and she to him. I also wish for my relationship with that wonderful mare to continue to develop.

Regrets

None. In short, life is good. I have got on well with the folk I have encountered and I believe I have acted properly in all situations.

The tree

Tall and slim the tree rises proudly among its neighbors. Its bark is silver grey and smooth over the tough wood. The trunk is straight and from it branches reach up to the sun, mostly a slightly lighter grey than the back but with a gilt tinge to their surfaces where the light has touched. Wind has not bent it nor the teeth of small creatures marred it and its leaves do not fall in the winter.

Until the spring they remain, dropping to earth only when buds show. It is never long after the dying of the old leaves that these buds burst. From within them come new leaves, small and delicate and surrounded by blossoms. These are strange flowers, not of one color but of three arranged in rings. The outermost petals as as black as jet, next comes a ring of purest white and in the center lie petals of ash grey. When the leaves are fully grown, the blossoms fall over the course of a few days to share their simple beauty with the ground below.

The body

Tall, Ichsa-elegant but muscled. The warrior’s coat is sleek, mane and tail thick and flowing. Here and there on his body healing injuries will show more often than not. Deep brown eyes stand out starkly from his pale form. Though they are gentle most of the time, in battle or anger they lose their warmth and harden with determination to win whatever conflict he had entered into.

The warhorse possesses a number of adornments, the first of them being the greaves he wears upon his forelegs; these were crafted from him by humans in thanks for a service rendered to them. Besides their aesthetic qualities, the metal things offer protection to his legs in battle. About his neck he wears a circular pendant made of polished stones. Jet makes the outer ring with quartz within it and the center is formed of a simple simple stone such as one might see beside a river. Lastly are two black feathers tied firmly into his mane behind his left ear, secured firmly by human hands. All he will say on them is that they were a gift from a dear friend whom he misses.

The heart

First and foremost Sol is a warrior, a defender of what he sees as the proper order of the world. If by living, dying, fighting or even fleeing he can protect innocents from those who would harm or oppress them, he will do so. He believes in freedom, equality and justice for all that walk and think in Urin from the Ichsa to the Bae to Rit and humans.

He does not tolerate those who live only for themselves and would be slow to offer his aid to them should they ever need it. The pale stallion possesses a good deal of the famed Ichsa pride and is quick to challenge those who insult him or his ideals to a duel. If his temper is not roused however, he is a kind, well spoken Nequus showing respect to those he meets on his travels. He is very willing to offer is aid to strangers and acquaintances alike, provided of course they have not crossed him in the past. If he discovers that a Nequus has committed what he sees as wrongs in the past they will lose his good regard until he believes they have atoned for their wrongs.

The fair

These Nequus are those I hold in esteem for one reason and another. They may be a powerful warrior whom I respect or a kind heart whom I seek to defend from those that might do them harm. I shall also note here whether or not I find them to be good company. A Nequus may be good and yet still grate upon one’s nerves.

Nizhoni - A kind heart utterly unlike other mares of our kind I have met. She holds a foal’s love of life and the innocence of the same. Without knowing me or my business she offered me her aid and her friendship. People such as she are too few in this world; she is a dear friend to me already and I would fight any battle no matter how futile if it were to defend her.

Calliope and Damon - These foals enchant me with every moment that passes. They are full of life, love and innocence offering freely of their time and effort to assist me. I plan to remain in the company for as long as possible, perhaps even see them to adulthood if I can.

Chandara - My mate. She is beautiful, good-hearted and wise. I love her and our children with all of my heart.

Shades of grey

These Nequus I am uncertain of. Their actions for good and for ill might be near balanced, there might be some past wrong I feel they have not yet compensated for or I may simply not feel I have been shown enough of their heart of make a decision.

Varten - He seems a good stallion but I have not yet spent enough time with him to truly know him. I am in little doubt however that if I were to come to know him better he would move into the list above.

The foul

Creatures that are evil in my eyes. Oppressors perhaps or greedy fools or a strong Nequus who refuses to use their power to liberate the downtrodden. There is perhaps a chance for redemption in some cases. In others however, I feel it my duty to either drive them away from those they might harm or end their lives if their deeds are black enough. I shall note what kind of evil creatures here are and how I plan to deal with them.

The dark fruit that would one day become a proud pale stallion was alone of its tree, and the dam was alone under it. The whereabouts of the tree’s sire she knew not, and had not the time to care about. It would have gone ill for her and her child had not another pair of saplings sprouted beside hers, and had not the Jala couple from whom it had sprung chosen to aid her. While the two trees grew, the Jala stallion cared for both mares, who became firm friends very swiftly and all three Nequus felt as though they had two children growing in the branches rather than merely the single bud which sprouted from each tree.

When the time came, the two fruits hatched on the same day only moments apart, and the two colts became friends as surely as their mothers had. The Jala named their son Vincent after the sire’s own sire, and the Ichsa named her child after the sun for how the sight of his small form lit up her world.

When the two colts were old enough, they departed as brothers, their parents as a trio of lovers.

The two foals grew swiftly, and both were strong and bold and their parents’ pride and joy. When they were stallions just grown, they struck out in investigate Ryuten together, and were gifted with matching pendants by the humans so that all who saw them together would know that they were bonded to one another by love though not by blood.

When they returned home, however, they discovered disaster and destruction.

In their absence, a larger herd had taken the lands that their family had lived in and slaughtered those who would not submit to them. The three parents of Sol and Vincent were not among those who had surrendered and even as they fled and mourned their family, the two young creatures were proud that their parents had fought to the end for their freedom. Once they were safely away from the territory that was no longer their home, the brothers agreed that they must defend for those who could not defend themselves, and fight any who would harm the innocent.

For many suns they traveled together and did what good in the world they could, but eventually fate stuck at them once more and parted the brothers during a battle against a pair of Aeri stallions who had been attacking a sickly colt. The trees of Yisi and a fierce storm hampered their senses and, their battles went separate ways. The next morn, the stallion named for the sun searched and searched for his brother and dearest friend but found no trace of him. After many more days of fruitless seeking, the tall stallion went on, proud and alone to continue with his eternal quest...

Theme: Holding out for a hero Sol answers the question posed in this song very eloquantly. In base, he's right here and about to kick the arse of whatever appears to be bothering you. Hard.

Winter’s Legacy - Today I met a mare who has changed my fortunes. Nizhoni; an Ichsa like me. She found me beside a brook and quickly offered to take me to her home; D'ob. There I shall rest, recover my strength and get to know this new friend that I have made

To Fight - I encountered a Bae stallion during my daily training and to meet lady Nyx. We spoke for a little while and then I took him on a tour of the area

The quest begins - Having reached the coast I was fortunate enough to run into a fair maiden who may have seen Katie the Rit. I was sorry to leave her so soon but my quest will not wait.

Hide-and-Seek - Some time after arriving in the crystal lands I encountered an orphan pair of Reya foals. They have agreed to help me look for Kati and I have agreed to take them to the ocean. I hope we do not have to part ways thereafter

Finding Kati

Seaside Tag Having completed the task set to me by lady Nyx, I decided to take the foals to see the ocean. We were fortunate enough to encounter Chandara once more, and she took us to see one of her favorite sights; it was a good day.

The passing of time - Today I saw Chandara again for the first time in many a sun. She and I now plan to travel together, I do not know how long for but I welcome her fair company.

Knowing me, knowing you - I am courting Chandara, and I have no idea how to express my happiness.

This is where we are - Chandara and I are now parents; we have six wonderful sons, and life could not be better.

Beginning

I hadn’t thought about keeping a journal of my days before, hadn’t considered that I might need such a thing. I feel the need now though, perhaps because of my brush with death or perhaps just because it was my time to realise it. It will be a good place to record my successes, my failures, to track my progress in life as a whole and in my fight.

I feel safe today for the first time in many; I think I have come too far now for them to follow me. Never before have I fought so many that knew the art of battle so well. Some weeks ago I group of Aeri stallions without mates, led by a Reya in the same situation. They had found a Jala mare, though she was more filly than mare, and were trying to force their attentions upon her.

I challenged their leader to single combat to decide whether or not this behavior would continue. As I had half-feared he did not accept my challenge but rather charged at me with his followers in tow. They were brutes, lasing out with tooth and hoof wherever they could. Fortunately I was able to keep my wings flush to my sides and they were not damaged too badly. I scored many a hit upon them, perhaps even killed one or two, I know not. Their leader was the greatest trouble for me; would probably have been able to defeat me even if he had not set his followers upon me at the same time as he charged.

It was a fight i knew I could not win but I could not leave until the filly was safe. Luckily for me, it was not too long before the Jala filly kicked the stallion that had been left to guard her squarely in the muzzle and fled. With her safely away I fought my way towards the edge of the group. Fortune favoured me that day. I managed to stab my horn deep into the Reya’s shoulder and his cry of pain distracted those that followed him for a moment. I used the precious seconds well and galloped away as swift as my legs would carry me. Again, I was fortunate that though they were larger than me to a stallion they were not as swift.

I ran until I was near dropping from exhaustion and then rested in whatever cover I could find for many days barely eating at all. I was thin enough from the winter already and those long days of running made me into little more than a bag of bones.

Now though I feel somewhat better. Spring is coming slowly to the world and the lands I walk through seem to be getting lusher. This morning, I decided that I had run enough and so my recuperation can begin. I hope to discover what land I have fled to and what manner of Nequus live here. I can only hope that they are not hostile; I’ve no strength left to fight with and it will take many days for that situation to change.

Still; weak and injured though I am I keep my goals in sight and my will firm. I have hope.

New Hope

Today, my optimism has been rewarded. On into the lusher lands I have walked and I came upon a gently flowing brook. Here, I decided, was a fine place to graze and to bathe my hurts. As it turned out this was an excellent decision on my part. I had not been there for long when a voice hailed me. I turned about, somewhat startled, and beheld the fairest mare I have seen in some time. Her name is Nizhoni and, like me, she is and Ichsa.

Almost the first words she spoke to me were an offer of aid. Too long it has been since I met one so kind and so warm as she. I was quick to accept her offer and she promised to take me to the valley of D'ob, where she lives.

We talked some little while I washed myself in the brook; I told her how I came by my injuries. She seemed impressed by my quest and I must admit to feeling more than a little proud that a stranger would compliment my way of life so.

We talked on for some time, to my delight she has decided that she might name me Sunny, but eventually we moved off towards D'ob. Nizhoni is quite a thing to see in motion; long elegant strides and easy leaps over whatever stands in her way. I look forward to getting this mare better, and to becoming healthy once more. Today has been a very good day indeed.

Recovering, guiding

I am much better now. Not perfect, my body still aches at times, but much better. Running in water had been strengthening the muscles in my legs and i have found a few sparring partners to re-train my reflexes. Soon I think I shall be well enough to move on.

In any case, today I met a red Bae named Varten. I liked him very well and, though there were some errors in communication, we got on well. Lady Nyx entrusted me with showing him about her lands and it seems that he will be staying here for a while.

I cannot say that I blame him; the valley of D'ob is beautiful and Lady Nyx keeps a peaceful, friendly herd. As I have said I shall soon be well enough to leave this land of plenty but I think I may linger a while longer than I need. For the first time in a long time I have found peace to go along with my happiness.

Promises

Today Lady Nyx came to speak with me about a young mare she met out in the rain. It seems that the lady in question is of my kind and in some distress. She has lost somebody dear to her, her Kati-nana who is apparently a Rit. I was all too willing to assent to Nyx's request that I go in search of Kati and bring her back here where she and the mare, whose name is Colleen, can be reunited.

White coat, black diamonds and red splashing; that is what I must seek and my starting point shall be the ocean.

Before I go however I wish to recover myself a little more as my stamina is still rather poor. I do not think it will be long before I leave however; time is of the essence if I am to find Kati safe and well and bring her here before Colleen's return from whatever called her away so abruptly.

I believe that I can succeed in this task for the Rit's description is a distinctive one and, for the sake of fair Colleen, I hope that my faith in myself is not misplaced.

Ocean maiden

Quirne is everything I had been told and more besides. Not only were the vast horizons stunning but it also seems to hold some truly beautiful creatures. Her name was Chandara and she had one of the most wonderful coats I have ever laid eyes upon and that goes without mentioning her distinctive tail.

Sadly I didn't get to speak with her long, she seemed kind to me in the words we did share though. Scarce had i begun to speak with her, I discovered that she had recently seen a Rit that might well be Katie. Naturally I was pressed to leave at once, much though it saddened me to do so. She even offered to come along but I could not accept.

If this Rit is Katie then I shall return to Nyx the way I came in the hopes of finding the ocean-maiden once more and having an hour or two in her company.

To the crystal lands

Well, it was not Katie but some good came out of my meeting with the little creature. He informed me that he had met a white Rit with black and red patterning who had been intending to make for the crystal lands.

Naturally I thanked him and set off right away, hoping to cross paths with Coleen's friend. I have seen no sign of her thus far but there is a way to go yet and if i have not found her by the time I arrive, I shall search the crystal lands from one end to the other until I either discover her or hear that she has been seen moving on.

Damon and Calliope

After some days of travelling, I arrived in the crystal lands. I had not been expecting to find Kati right away but, nevertheless, I could not help but be disheartened by the emptiness. I had quite forgotten how vast Yisi is.

Nevertheless, I moved on keeping eyes open and ears alert and, before long, I came upon a game of hide and seek. The players were Reya tree-siblings; a white filly with rainbow markings named Calliope and a black colt with rainbow markings named Damon. I told them what was about and the pair seemed only too willing to assist me.

It was not long after this that I discovered that they are alone in the world save for one another. A pair of young Reya alone in the world and living close to the mountain of the teared Jala. I swiftly decided that they could not be allowed to stay and told them how far the lands they seem to so love extend in the hopes that they would remove themselves from range of long-patrols.

After a little more talk on the subject of where I had just come from however things changed somewhat. They seemed fascinated by my description of the ocean and I therefore offered to take them there so that they might see it with their own eyes.

I cannot think what I will do if they wish to part company from me; already I love them both dearly. I want to teach them to fight, teach them of people, to help them find their wings and their way in Urin. I would that they were mine, such little beauties and so full of life. Well. We shall see how things turn out. I for one shall not suggest a sundering of our paths but if they do wish to part from me, I shall not prevent them as long as I am fairly confident that they have a place where they can live in safety and happiness.

Early in my life I swore to defend those who needed it. I do not think I could find a pair more worthy of my protection than these.
