Huni had heard of The Gallery that's why she was walking up the path towards the large house. No, that was a lie. She had never even known it existed, until she had the most vivid dream last night. It wasn't a dream exactly, more like a vision that she just had to see through.
The details were fuzzy, the only clear detail she remembered was that she had to go inside The Gallery. And she was walking the path that would lead her to whatever it was that made her dream last night.
She knocked at the door, quietly waiting for a response. It wasn't in her nature to barge into foreign places, unless given expressed permission of course.Marissa came down the stairs from "The Attic," a bit shaken. Yet another painting had called to her, without warning, and she had taken it upon herself to ready it for it's guardian.
...whoever that was. The painting had peculilarly not accepted any attempts at contacting potential guardians, sending distinct auras of negativity unless left completely alone. Obviously, somehow, the painting had made a clear discision and it was not to be tampered with. So, without much choice, Marissa had cleaned the top room as was custom, prepared the painting, and left to the Main Gallery to wait.
As she was wiping her hands with the dust rag she heard a knock. Almost warily, Marissa went to teh door and opened it slowly. Before her was a woman with firery red hair and look of confused determination. She knew without asking that this was the painting's guardian, and she did her best to greet her warmly.
"Hello. I believe...I believe I've been expecting you."Huni blinked at the reception, not sure whether or not she should be worried or relieved. "You've been expecting me?" she repeated, "Is that a good or a bad thing?" she joked to the woman, somehow she felt that this being summoned to The Gallery wasn't anything too unusual.
"I'm Huni by the way," she introduced, no sense in being weird and rude, right?Marissa chucked a bit nervously. Waking a painting in itself was fairly nerve-wracking, but such a startling suddence in this one has made Marissa more than a bit jumpy. "Me name's Marissa. Marissa Valcettre, I own the art gallery here with my best friend. And, I think it's a good thing," she explained. "Er..we've got this painting in the attic to be woken and it seems to want someone and not anyone else and judging from you're expression.." She stopped, rubbed her forehead and began again. She knew this wasn't the first time she'd sounded like a nutcase, and so decided to immediately begin the journey to The Attic.
"Um, follow me, please. Tell me Huni, have you ever heard of the Painted Souls?""Uh, just a bit, only that it involves going to the Gallery." Huni replied, she wanted to ask more about what Marissa meant by a painting that was supposed to be woken, but decided to just follow her. Surely if there was any danger involved she'd sense it, right? And if Marissa and her best friend was actually mass-murderers there'd be more rumors right?
"Uh, how long have you had this place?" Huni asked, trying to keep the mood as light as possible so she doesn't end up freaking out and running out of the house screaming her head off."Only..the Gallery..er, yes." She had desperately hoped, in vain, that Huni knew the ins and outs of their "organization." Not so. "Well, Jamie and I inherited this Gallery not long ago, less than a year. Soon after we moved in we discovered something about the top floor." They had begun their climb. The second floor waited charmingly, being the least threatening and most spaciously of all the Gallery's floors. Marissa wondered how Huni would take that she was about to become a "mother." The news was never easy. "Er, Huni, in the top floor of the Gallery is a room. The room is full of old paintings, discovered by me one day while dusting. I don't know how to put this, exactly, but the paintings..hold the souls of living beings. We're not sure why, or how, but they do. Once a person comes upon a painting they are immediately bonded with the soul inside it, and are bestowed upon with a child." She took a breath, deciding to continue instead of waiting for a response. "A painting has chosen you," she said quietly, "I think."Huni tried to take in the information, it was going in, but whether or not she understood it was a different matter. Then again, she couldn't help but remember the shield she had acquired a few months ago. If children could emerge from shields, then how unlikely would it be from paintings?
She had to remind herself often that in Gaia, anything was possible.
"Well, if this soul has no intention of taking over my body and causing me any irreparable damage, I suppose it's alright with me." she chuckled. "And what sort of painting is it, exactly? I hope it's nothing scary or gorey, I cringe easily." she laughed as they ascended up to the Attick where it seemed her fate awaited her.Marissa was a bit surprised. That was it? Huni had taken the news very well. She sighed in relief. Mayhap the painting had chosen her for a reason...
The second floor dropped away behind them and they began their trudge up the next flight of stairs. The case was narrow and dark, so she quickened her pace. She bit her lip at the last comment. "Er..no..not like that, persay..but of course..I havn't had a good look at it, really..." she lied. She shrugged nervously and continued."Oh, that's good." Huni laughed in relief, the last thing she needed or wanted was a painting of a frightening scene that she had to display in order to care for the 'soul' trapped in it. Or at least that's what she thought as she had to keep the shield shiney and well taken care of to keep the knight within it safe.
Huni's thighs began to ache, she hated stairs in general, but she absolutely despised long staircases that leads to dark, cramped spaces. "Um, not to sound like an annoying kid on an especially long car ride but are we there yet?" she asked.Marissa laughed. "No need to feel bad. I've gotten many a workout dusting up here every day. There are five stories. We're at the third now." She scuffed along the third landing, which was carpeted. The hallways were lined with doors, each handle portrayed a different painted scene. "Don't go into any of the rooms, please," she warned. I havn't even been into some of them. They're bound to be terribly dusty.""Don't worry, I only go poking around in places I know I'm allowed in." Huni chuckled in assurance, "And there are five floors?! Gah, if I pass out from exhaustion I apologize in advance." the red head stated, whether it was a joke or she was serious it was difficult to tell.
Huni was getting more and more nervous as they went further into the house. Part of her was excited as anything, and another part of her was screaming to get the heck out of there while she still could. Good thing Huni always ignored the sensible voice."Mhm. It's a pain, isn't it?" she laughed softly. As they went up the next flight of stairs, Marissa turned her head backwards. "Um, be extra quiet, if you can, on this floor," she said, lowering her voice to a whisper. "We're so close to the painting now, they can usually pick us up at this point. I don't especially want to disturb it, either. This one's been so funny, having mad aura-swings. One minute it's completely content and the next it's been very angry..or sad, then calm, etc. Almost bipolar, can't make up it's mind." She chuckled and continued on her way.Huni nodded and gulped at Marissa's warning to keep quiet. She leaned close to the woman, "I hope it isn't going to need medication, I think the doctors will end up putting me on medication if I tell them it's for a painting." she giggled softly. She was getting anxious to see what sort of painting awaited her.Marissa smiled. "I don't think so," she whispered, "I wouldn't worry. There's usually something about them..we've never been without surprise with the Souls."
Then they came to the top of the final set of stairs. This floor, unlike the others, did not extend a length, but instead was laid out horizontally, stretching a bit to the left and right. A few meters away was a set of three stairs leading to a dark door in the wall. Marissa stopped walking.
"This is as far as I can take you," she said, barely audible. "The rest is for you to experience." She gestured towards the door and stepped aside.Huni gulped audibly at being told she had to go in alone. Steeling her nerves, the red head approached the door and tentatively let her fingers brush against the doorknob to the Attic. She had half-expected to be eaten or burnt or something, but decided that was just being silly and paranoid. She took a deep breath and opened the door to face the painting that had summoned her to the Gallery.Inside The Attic, it is first notably dark. The atmosphere is eerie, the walls are lined with canvas tarp, covering a great deal of something-or-other. There is one single window facing The Attic's new guest, but the dying light outside casts a less than sparse orange glow on it's main attraction. The main attraction, persay? In the center of the room, resting face-up on a dark wood table, is a painting.
It is small and dark. Well, half dark. Portrayed is a heart, split in half, white and black. The white half is luminescant and beautiful, the second half black as jet. Stangely, across the heart is a deep read gash. The painting is silent, observing it's visitor.
For a moment nothing happens.
Then, suddenly, the air seems to shake and pulse, violently at first, then slowing to a gentle quiver. The silence suddenly becomes loud, ear-piercing, then becomes a gentle hum. For a fraction of a second there is nothing. Then, far to quick for the human eye to see, there is a child.
She is a striking contrast to her painting. Not dark, but bright, blindingly bright. And upon closer inspection, she is a living yin-yan. Her hair, orange fading into hot pink, is neatle curled and tied on one side, messily strewn into a pigtail on the other. Her candy-colored jumper is torn on her right, intricately laced on the other. And her skin is a phenomenon in itself. It's gradient is that from deep brown to snow white, and almost invisibly fades from one color to the other. She has a seemingly un-provoked scar trailing down her cheek.
The baby, looking annoyed, begins to cry.In the span of just a few minutes, Huni's nerves underwent a large range of emotions starting with nervousness, moving to tingly-goosebumping, to confusion, to paranoia, to just plain freaked out. She had expected a talking portrait, or even a moody little landscape! Yes, Marissa had warned her about the child, but she thought it would be similar to Tamis, meaning the Soul within wouldn't emerge until a good few weeks.
Her mouth gaped open and closed in a fashion much like a fish would upon the appearance of the infant. At first her initial reaction was just to stare, but when the baby began to cry Huni cringed.
Her crying was more of a wail to her, high-pitched, ear piercing, chilling her to the bone. She had never heard such mournful sobbing before, was it a sign of things to come? Or was it just the baby wanting to be brought out of the Attic? But for whatever reason, the moment Huni held her in her arms, the baby stopped crying.
"Well now, at least I'm not making things worse." Huni chuckled to the little person in her arms. "Hmm, I wonder what's your name?" she murmured softly and inspected the back of the painting.
In a corner of the painting, there were miniscule scratch marks. When the red head inspected it better, she saw it was in the language that she had seen only in Addy's recordings.
"Meta -what's that? Oh!- Metanoia." she read, only to hear a gurgle emerge from the baby. Huni blinked, "Metanoia?" she repeated, and achieved the same reaction. "Well that settles it then," she grinned as she exited the Attic to where Marissa was.

To celebrate Noi's growth, we went shopping and she chose these two bottled things. I hope she doesn't break them when she's in her low mood... Haze kindly bestowed these two toys to Noi during Christmas.

Name: Huni Pi Hair Color: Red Eye Color: Jade Green Skin Tone: Oriental Gender: Female Age: 21 years old Height: 5"4 Weight: 110 lbs. Type: Gaian Posts in: Lightsalmon
Personality: Affectionate and loving, it's obvious if Huni likes a person, however, she's extremely self-conscious about her image and whether or not people like her. She tries her best to put her best foot forward as often as possible, but when she's in the comforts of her own home, she's usually more relaxed about how people will see her. Possibly due to the "home court" advantage she's learned from Haze. Huni is also generous with the ones she likes, often ending up in debt and/or near bankruptcy, but thanks to her friends, she manages to survive her worse case scenarios. Her view on parenthood is that she prefers to have children that are not genetically her own because she belives in single blessedness. That and she just can't afford to get pregnant and take time off as being an employee of Haze means she must be available all the time. Huni is also someone who is easily amused, and has shallow happiness. She is a sucker for anything squishy and simple gestures of kindness can easily earn you a place in her heart. But she is one to carry a grudge and let resentment build inside her, she finds it hard to express her anger or dislike, especially to the people involved.
History: Huni is Gaian by birth, but she was raised in Silar* in the city of Scardane, capital of Virall. There, she grew up to be the permanent "friend" of Haze until they grew old enough to travel apart. Huni gets to visit Gaia often, and even has a house there, paid for by Haze's older brother Arson, where the Silarian woman often stayed during vacations. Recently, Huni has been spending more and more time in Gaia, and is a little freaked out about the numerous children she is suddenly taking care of. And now that Haze has decided to take a hiatus from Silar, she has an additional child to worry about and look after.*Silar - a world created by Andrea Dy that has seven regions, each with a predominant god watching over it.
