Remarque had sent out a message earlier in the week to the entirety of the Dark Mirror Court, whether or not they had been in attendance during their fight with the Calamitous Hollow. He’d been fortunate to be in the company of a majority of the Court but he knew there were others that had been there and found their own circles. It’s not like they’d taken roll call when they were lining up to battle.
Besides, how much could dinner cost? It wasn’t going to break the bank.
The offer had been simple: get back to him before the evening of Friday the 18th with an order–any meal, from any restaurant, within Destiny City. He’d insisted they ignore the cost; it was going on a company credit card. They didn’t have to stay for the get-together in Mirrorspace, they could drop by, pick up their food, and leave.
No strings attached.
But, just in case they wanted to stick around, Remarque had gone through the hassle of setting up tables and chairs. There was enough seating that they could sit in small clusters, or join in larger conversation if they were up to it.
Mirrorspace wasn’t exactly scenic but it was safe, so the white walls and array of reflective frames was going to have to be the mood for the evening.
Each to-go meal was fresh; he’d made sure that they were all arriving precisely on time, and everyone’s powered name had been clearly indicated on their boxes, laid out on one large table. There were drinks available but no alcohol, because he did not want to deal with that.
A few curious wraiths were loitering in the area, which Remarque thought was suspicious, but he didn’t chase them away because he was still hoping they’d have found some way back into the room that once held the ballista.

This ORP takes place for DMS characters on the evening of Friday, April 18th; your character can drop in to grab food and go, or stay and chat. There’s no obligation to participate and it’s totally optional! This RP does not have any lore drops and is just for leisure/making connections/possibly ICly planning future outings or just getting general familiarity within the Court. There are no scheduled posts and it will be open for ~two weeks, after which at some point I will write a fade to black/exit post. If you want to keep RPing with your RP partners, you can move to another thread afterwards.
Your DMS does not need to have participated in any of the event RPs to be invited! However, the invitation is only open to Dark Mirror Senshi so no non-DMS guests, please!

Food!! Storm could not turn down the offer of free food especially from Remarque. He felt bad that he hadn't been totally active and wasn't able to help in the battle against that Harold, but he'd been taking care of his mother.
He'd caught a ride and managed to make it to where Remarque had set up tables and chairs and the to go meals were all set up. "What's up Brother?" He asked Remarque as he looked around and snagged the carton with his name on it.
He saw the wraiths in the corner, "Sorry I couldn't make it to the big battle." He added with a frown. He did want to come but family sometimes was more important especially when he didn't have a back up plan.
As if Ariadne was going to miss out on the dinner she herself had suggested. Especially when her idea of pizza had been replaced with "pick out your favorite meal and Remarque will cover it."
Sure, okay, her favorite meal was a fancy salad from a steakhouse she liked, but she didn't get the impression she was going to be judged for that here. Also, it was just tasty.
She waltzed in, casual as you please, and came over to the table to find the box labeled with her name. The other Senshi present (Storm) got a wave of acknowledgement--he seemed to know Remarque, but maybe that wasn't surprising.
"Thanks, Remarque," she said, as she picked up her food. "Hey, actually--" She shifted her box to one hand and used the other to reach into subspace, producing the odd trinket she'd found there after getting back to Earth. "Did you get one of these too? Any idea what they might be for?"

Belenos practically bounced her way into mirrorspace, excitement over the dinner keeping her on her toes. God, but she loved being here. Remarque was one of her favorite people now. He knew how to protect the Court. She felt safe here, cared for, and the dinner smelled amazing.
She went over to pick up the box her name from her favorite steak place, nearly drooling as the smell of it, of her dinner specifically, wafted into her nose.
"Thank you so much, Remarque," she chirped, nodding a hello at Storm, then tilted her head at Ariadne. "The charm? Yeah, I found it. It looks like what was happening with the mirrors when Mr Snakey was messing with our electric bills. Like, seeing windows into other worlds stuff, like ghibli movie portals or something. Isn't it cute? I'm trying to find a way to attach it to my compact!"
Taking the set of small, round bamboo boxes with his name on them, Hybris happily settled down at the table near Belenos with a smiling hello. Instead of the typical bottle of wine lurking in his space, tonight he pulled out a thermos of green tea, brewed to his personal taste by his dogwalker. A set of small cups soon followed.
Glancing from the food on the side to the table and those starting to gather, Hybris smiled to himself and speculated as to who might grab the food and scurry off. Too shy to stay but too hungry, or needy, to pass up a free meal. The court truly held so many mysterious Types.
His eyes passed over Ariadne and almost could help a sigh. If only his uniform had a veil. Wouldn't that be amazing? Wouldn't that be so mysterious and strange?
Clasping his hands before his dim sum , Hybris bowed his head and silently thought at the Mirror, Thank you for this existence. I will keep on being so good and hard working and brave. I think my next uniform could really use some more drama! To go with the little wings! I've mentioned florals before but maybe a veil would be appropriate? Kisses and cusses, your ever faithful Soldier of Reflection, Hybris Malory Medraut.
Eyeing the trinket that was brought out, he beamed over at Ariadne and began to pour himself a cup of tea. "Isn't it lovely? The Mirror is being rather fun and generous after the big to-do."
Taking a sip he added, a little mournful, "It's a shame we've lost our 'windows' here, though."

Prince Remarque (and Super Laon arriving with Super Arawn)
It was a shame that they lost their windows, and perhaps pleased with Hybris’ enthusiastic attention, while no one was looking, a painting appeared on the wall.
It might not have been a perfect replica of the windows they’d had before, and while it wasn’t alive, it was still a beautiful smattering of stars divided by a blue and pink cosmic aurora. And, perhaps as an act of kindness, no corpse to view while they dined.
Remarque had turned away from the wraiths he’d been watching and raised a hand in greeting as more Dark Mirror Senshi arrived.
Laon had just come through the mirror, arm hooked around Arawn’s. Laon looked anxious, as expected, but he was also clearly alive, and his eyes had returned to normal. He eagerly scanned the faces already in the room. He had a vague idea of who he was looking for, but when he spotted neither Lacerta nor Persephone, he settled for just Remarque.
He raised a hand in greeting, and Remarque gestured to the table. Laon, obligingly, nodded and moved with his hand in Arawn’s.
“I got one of them, too,” he answered, eying Ariadne’s charm before withdrawing a matching one of his own. He’d already spent a bit of time examining it, and it yielded no answers then nor now. “Found a bunch of weird things in my subspace that I definitely did not pack. More scales than I know what to do with, so I’m just holding onto them for now.”
He nodded with each gesture of thanks, just to make sure no one was overlooked. He wasn’t completely sure what Belenos was saying but he wished her all the luck. Hybris was here, still in one piece. Good. Remarque hoped he stayed that way.
“Don’t beat yourself up if you weren’t able to make it out to the fight. You can make it up to me by exploring Mirrorspace with me sometime,” he said to Storm, flashing a quick grin. “But I guess that offer’s open to everyone. I’ve got a lot of questions and not any answers for them, so I think I’ll try digging around and see if I can find anything.” He squinted at the ceiling. “If Mirrorspace would be so obliging.”

A tad late, but better than never at all, Telesto steps through the mirror after some assistance, wide grin spread across their face as they see the number of the Court gathered together. They loved a get together.
"Hail, comrades! It is good to see everyone again so hail and hearty after the battle." They all but shouted into the space.
Quickly they scooped up their food order, chicken tahdig with some garlic spread, and made their way over to the others. With a quick listen they joined into the conversation of the moment, looking around at the Mirrorspace.
"Well, we had talked before about trying to grow some things here," they say to Remarque. "So I would be happy to stay around and help pick through the area, mayhaps we will find a place that is more stable and can hold some plants? If we can get the windows back like Hybris mentioned, we could potentially get some real light in here."
They pulled out their own trinket from the battle, dangling it aloft briefly. "We are sure these do not bear a curse or anything, right?"
Storm had opened the box, that he'd ordered. Pulling out some of the spam sushi before taking a bite of the teriyaki burger stepping off to the side a bit so he wasn't in the way of the others finding their food. Settling at a near by table.
Orange eyes following each person as they spoke. Storm's head tilted at the trinket that Ariadne had weird that there'd be some sort of trinket. He tilted again when Belenos appeared and also mentioned the charm and that it looked like what was happening with the mirrors before the battle.
So it was a snake and the mirrors seemed like they were out of a ghibli movie? Storm took in the information and when Belenos mentioned she wanted to attach it to her compact. "Might could get some jewelry tools and make something that could attach to your compact?"
Storm gave a nod hello to Hybris. Which he heard there were windows in mirror space or at least the mirrors reflected windows. He seemed thoughtful, could it be replicated?
It wasn't long before more appeared and Storm was starting to lose track, he gave a nod to Laon, Arawn, and Telesto.
Tilting his head when Telesto spoke about trying to grow things and then wondering if the trinket had a curse on it.
He turned his attention back to Remarque; "I'd enjoy exploring the Mirror space again brother. It's been a while." There was a frown when he tried to recall the last time he'd actually explored this place any. It'd be nice to have some little spot to call his own here. He seemed thoughtful. "Maybe the mirror would be kind enough to provide answers."
Storm rubbed the back of his head, "I'd also like if a few folks wouldn't mind helping me acclimate back to the city. If um, any of our 'Ohana wouldn't mind." He'd spent a decent chunk of time in Hawaii, probably more than he'd like to admit. Really he'd tried to keep up with what was going on n the city but he felt like he'd missed more than he wanted to no matter how much time he'd spent away.
Arawn kept his eyes on the ground as he walked through the mirror with Laon. He glanced up for just a moment to catch sight of Remarque. A weird twist in his stomach had his eyes back on the ground.
It wasn’t shame, nor was it embarrassment. Maybe he didn’t want to mess up and disappoint Remarque after everything he’d done for him and Laon.
Or what the others had done for him and Laon in their time of need.
Arawn just wished he could remember faces and names more clearly. It was easy to just be angry about everything. It was harder to trust -- especially after everything. He hated to have to rely on Laon to tell him if someone was okay or not, especially since Laon was nice to everyone, but he was doing his best.
At least they got food. He and Laon had asked for just a very basic meal. They weren’t used to fancy stuff anyway. Chicken tenders seemed like a safe bet.
As they reached the table, Arawn pulled the chair out for Laon, making sure he was sitting before taking a seat for himself. It was easier to keep himself distracted with food.
Except when he pulled the box with his name on it in front of him, the meal inside was… wrong.
“Remarque, I think this is for someone else,” he frowned, although he felt a little guilty for potentially interrupting him. He reached for Laon’s box to take a peek at that as well and-- it was also wrong.
Laon sat down as soon as Arawn found a chair for him, eager to fall out of the spotlight of ‘new arrivals’. Laon opened his mouth like he meant to protest Arawn bringing anything to attention; he’d have eaten a wrong meal. Except, he understood why Arawn had spoken up when he realized how much more expensive this meal looked compared to the simple meals they’d requested.
Dread flushed through him and he looked up at Remarque apologetically, like it was their fault that something had gone wrong.
Remarque tilted his head at Laon and Arawn, eyed the styrofoam and the food inside, and then shrugged. “No, I ordered that for you. You’ll have to tell me if you like it. Use the steak sauce. It’s one of my favorites. And eat what you can now, it doesn’t ever reheat right. Tell me how you like it,” he said, making sure he’d caught both Laon and Arawn’s attention so they couldn't doubt that he’d been speaking to them.
Even now, Laon looked a bit like he was trying to make himself smaller; he had settled in his seat and tucked in his elbows and slouched just enough that he didn't have much presence. He wasn't hiding; he didn't recognize many people here, and the ones that he did, he worried he'd made a bad impression with anyway. So it was best to stay out of their way. He wasn't one to criticize any meal, much less a free one, so as soon as Remarque had insisted that this was the order he'd made for them, of course he was interested in it.
Neither Laon nor Arawn much cared to have attention on them, so Remarque left them to the steaks he’d picked out for them. They didn’t look as appetizing in a styrofoam to-go box as they would have on a ceramic plate but they’d taste just fine. It wasn’t like those two had much to compare to anyway. He’d save the dry aged steak for when they refined their palate a bit more.
Telesto was loud and boisterous, as expected, but welcome all the same. Storm maintained his usual friendliness, for which Remarque was also grateful for.
“One of these days, you’ll have to visit the Mirrorscape with me,” Remarque mused, mostly toTelesto but the offer was open to anyone with interest. “Things have been growing pretty well there.” He didn’t want to correct Telesto that they hadn’t found real windows, but maybe Mirrorspace could take a hint and get something a bit livelier out here for them.
“I’m sure there’s plenty of us willing to get you reacquainted with Destiny City, Storm. And Mirrorspace. Do either of you really think Mirrorspace would curse us, after all we’ve done for it?” he asked, but he seemed more amused at the thought than offended.
Mirrorspace might have cursed them, but he figured they were of more use to it in good condition than not. He wasn’t really superstitious, but neither was he one to look a gift horse in the mouth. It had gifted them a weapon and they’d use it.
If Mirrorspace wanted them dead, why not just trap them here?
…No, he didn’t want to give it any ideas.
“I find strange things around here all the time.” Not usually in subspace, but every now and then he pulled out something he didn’t recall finding before. “Maybe we should go treasure hunting sometime. I bet if the lot of us combed through Mirrorspace we’d find something.”
Ariadne spun the little trinket between her fingers, plopping down with her order and nodding. "I haven't poked around nearly as much as I could, I think." Mirrorspace was so strange, so fascinating...she really had to do more, now that she could.
She'd let all this magic sort of...lie, for so long. Let it fall by the wayside, as if her civilian life was so much more interesting or important. But just being here, with the rest of the Mirror, seeing so many people filtering in...sure, they weren't exactly numerous, but as she'd seen at the battle, they were enough.
A little family, of sorts. A second one. One that her sister had wanted her to join, which gave her the chance to find a whole new world.
And crucially, that world came with new people and new friends.
"I don't think I've even started checking out the Mirrorscape yet. Amytis mentioned it; magic islands we can build, right? Sounds fun." And sounded like something that she really ought to take the time to commit herself to.
Man,t here was a lot to being a magical girl. Honestly, Ariadne had never thought of how much people more dedicated to the war must put into it--but surely she could start carving out some time. It wasn't like she was booked up 24-7.
Even if it felt that way sometimes, between practice and competitions and training and planning and...all of it. But clearly other people managed, which meant she just had to figure out how to do that, too.
It was all just a balancing act, and she'd just have to make room for one more plate. Not that it would be entirely easy, but when had she ever balked from something just because it was hard? And as she'd seen in the battle with the Calamitous Hollow, this was important.
If she wanted to keep having a daily life to live, it seemed like she'd have to give more to the magical girl Thing. That was all there was to it.
It would have been silly, to turn down an offer of free food and free camaraderie. Besides, Persephone wouldn't pretend she wasn't curious about the outcome for poor Laon--he'd gotten up, sure, and so she had to hope that her healing had helped in the moment, but following up still felt important.
Also, she needed to stop staring at essays for five minutes, because that was slowly driving her insane.
"Hey, Rem," she said, as she went to pick up her food, "good to see you, sorry I'm a little late. Grading papers, you know." MAybe he wasn't a professor, but at minimum she was sure he udnerstood Ordinary Responsibilities.
(And if Persephone was honest, it was a blessing to have Ordinary Responsibilities. It had taken her so long to make a life for herself where "taking time off from grading papers to have dinner with her fellow Dark Mirrors" was a thing she could do, after giving up everything she was twice.
She liked her life now. It was a good life.)
She glanced over the group--not too many of them, but that had never been a surprise, they were few but tighter for it--and spotted [n]Arawn and Laon, and let out a sigh of relief. Good, the kid was here, and mostly looking no worse for the wear.
Casually as could be, she waltzed over to them. Might as well say hi, touch base, make sure that everything was as okay as it looked, so on and so forth. Good...belated bedside manner, or something.
"Good to see you up and about," she told Laon. "No adverse aftereffects, I hope? I've seen a lot of weird s**t in my day, but I won't pretend that wasn't some of the weirdest."
Sure, maybe Arawn hadn't presented as the friendliest at the battle, but whatever, Persephone wasn't going to be put off by a little growling. They both seemed so young--like she'd been, back when she started all this. And with years to look back on, even if the memories of her earliest days were fragmentary bits and pieces, she knew she hadn't always been easy to be around.
Pretty much entirely in the opposite direction--way too friendly and way too full of hopes and dreams that time had tempered--but still not the easiest to deal with. Especially, she imagined, for those who had been veterans even when she started.
It felt like a responsibility, of sorts, to look after those newer to the Court. To the war in general.
"Anyway, I know I said back at the battle, but I'm Persephone, and I've been a Senshi for a lot longer than this," she gestured at her basic fuku, "would suggest. Just...got myself into a lot of messes, over the years."
And how. She'd paid for her choice to join the Negaverse with her Eternal's power, and for a time, with the stability of her very starseed. But that was mostly ancient history now, and if they didn't ask, she wasn't going to get into it.
Beaming at the painting, Hybris took in the painting with genuine pleasure. "Thank you," he murmured to the Mirror, smile dimpling, "it's wonderful!" Really, it was hard to fathom following anything other than their Mirror. It was so very charming, fun, and supportive. The white moon seemed as cold as its namesake, otherwise wouldn't Big Bro have been able to join sooner, wouldn't he be so much less defensive and more supported? And the Negaverse...
That queen was certainly...an existence.
Powerful. But there was something even more powerful, now wasn't there? Something dark and seething, haloed in crystal, something...
For a moment, Hybris's smile faltered, and the he once again looked at the painting. Well, he was glad to be here, with the power that loved him back.
Ah! Telesto was here, once again showing both warrior-like enthusiasm and the impressive wall of muscle that seemed bigger every time Hybris saw them. He opened his mouth to say the Mirror would never curse them, at least not seriously (and the result would likely just be a little fun, anyway) but got distracted when Arawn and Laon came in and had a little to-do over the lunches provided.
Oh! This looked like...a story.
Sipping his tea with a mild smile, Hybris watched the body language and listened to the tones on display. It was extremely unlikely Remarque would get something like this mixed up, and if there was such a mistake, the reaction was odder still. Unhappy and uncomfortable. How fun! Embarrassment and guilt. And it seems it wasn't a mistake, or hmmm...a missed steak. Cute!
Hybris watched Laon's body language closely and it occurred to him that the other senshi was, perhaps, not putting on a little act similar to his own back on that battlefield. That fragile, wilting state may just be Laon's natural existence which was sad, but also made for an extremely nice study. Fortunately Hybris was practiced enough at this sort of observation so as to avoid outright staring, but he did keep Laon in his periphery as he ate his dim sum with relish.
It was almost heartwarming to hear more people become interested in exploring Mirrorspace, in truly getting to know it. He felt it was rather easy to take for granted as simply magic power granted, a mysterious space moved through, and something to be fed. But there was, if not a person behind that power, there was very much a personality beyond that simple give and take.
"I think the Mirror would appreciate more people exploring and building up our little dream islands further." His own was growing more and more comfortable, enough to make him wonder if they ever could be a more permanent living space (or at least livable enough to keep his dogs...and dog walker here).
Storm was curious about the steak that Rem mentioned to Laon and Arawn. He hoped the pair would like the food that was picked out for them. He would plan to ask later about the restaurant that Rem had gotten the steak from, he needed more places to pick up foods anyways when he didn't have time to cook at home.
When Rem said he was sure there were people willing to help him get reacquainted with the city he smiled, "Thank you that would be much helpful Brother. I need to find more places to pick up fresh food as it seemed at least one or two of the places I use to visit has changed. Also exploring mirror space would be nice."
There was a pause when the question was asked if he thought mirror space would curse them. "Probably not, at least as long we don't do something to deserve it."
He lit up a bit though when treasure hunting was mentioned, "Oh Treasure hunts do sound fun. I enjoy a good treasure hunt."
The mention of magic islands by Ariadne in which they could build was interesting as well. "I wonder what kind of islands we can build." It sounded fun kind of like one of those games that were on the computer that let you have an island. Hybris had mentioned that he thought the mirror would appreciate more folks exploring and his curiosity got the better of him, "Has anyone started building any islands?"
He was curious how it worked and had questions - which if they were talking about building islands obviously someone had started on one somewhere.
He was enjoying his spam sushi and burger. He was interested in the different sorts of folks walking in and gave a soft hello to Persephone when she walked in.
That didn’t make sense. Why would Remarque order them something so expensive looking? Why didn’t he just get them the cheap option they’d asked for? Especially when he was buying food for so many.
He felt his face burn and he slunk down in his chair a bit. He wanted them to eat as much as they could? Arawn glanced over at Laon to see how he was doing, and he didn’t seem to be doing any better.
Even worse were the people who decided to show up. And talk to them.
A woman (Persephone) approached them, and Arawn was immediately on the defensive. He bared his teeth and--
She was talking to Laon like she knew him. Or at least kind of knew him. Did they know her? They must have, if she was so casual to approach them. His memories were still not that great, but maybe she was one of the people who helped when Laon had been out of it. That had to be the only explanation.
Hoping to maybe turn her off of talking to them, Arawn picked up the steak with his hands so that when he slunk down in his chair a bit more he could gnaw on the slab of meat like some untamed animal. Maybe Remarque would scold him later, but it was either this, or trying to snap at her.
Besides… Laon should be the one making new friends. He was much better for them. He deserved as many friends as he could get.
