With both sets of doors open, a large room was revealed. All around the walls were control panels, and steam tubes and wires ran from them all over the room. Columns dotted around the walls, and they and the ceiling they held up were lavishly decorated, with flames and smoke rendered in an elegant, filigree style.

And in the back, an open furnace grate. It sat dead and cold, but there was a soft glow within--a core of power.

The Eternal Engine.

But between the groups and it were a number of obstacles. First, near the entrance from the south, the two automaton spheres

And, standing before the furnace like a guardian, a massive creature. It was curled up at first, but as people filtered in, it began to move with a great groan of brass and metal, and it was massive.

Vaguely human-shaped and made of brass, with a hammer hand and a crossbow hand, the creature was simply gigantic, nearly tall enough to touch the high ceiling of the engine room.

It let out an angry hiss of steam, as if preparing to attack.

Combat Mechanics


Combat mechanics are straightforward, dice-based, and tied to stage. Each round will be treated as lasting one minute, so most magic attacks should only last for a single round!

HP

First Stage: 50 HP
Second Stage: 75 HP
Third Stage: 100 HP
Fourth Stage: 125 HP

Damage will be carried between battles!

Physical Attacks:

Physical damage includes hitting with fists or weapons, throwing objects, or otherwise attacking the creature without the use of magic.

Cats in Cat Form should roll 1d6 for physical damage
First Stage characters and Cats in Human Form should roll 1d8 for physical damage.
Second Stage characters and Sailor Cats should roll 1d10 for physical damage
Third Stage characters should roll 1d12 for physical damage
Fourth Stage characters should roll 2d8 for physical damage

Magical Attacks

Magical attacks are divided into two categories: direct damage and indirect damage. All attack magic will damage the creature, even things that only affect its many, many feelings! Direct damage magic is any magic that specifies either pain sensations or actual damage in its description. Indirect damage magic is magic that targets opponents with emotional or other nonphysical effects--most debuff magic falls under this category! If you’re not sure which category your magic falls under, feel free to contact me privately and I’ll make a judgement call!

Spell attacks are based on the level of the spell, not the level of the character! However, Chibi senshi should subtract one die from their damage.

Mauvian lasers roll first stage direct damage dice. Sailor Cats using attack magic should roll at Super stage.

Direct Damage

First Stage: 10 + 1d6 damage
Second Stage: 10 + 2d6 damage
Third Stage: 10 + 3d6 damage
Fourth Stage: 10 + 4d6 damage

Indirect Damage:

First Stage: 10 + 1d4 damage
Second Stage: 10 + 2d4 damage
Third Stage: 10 + 3d4 damage
Fourth Stage: 10 + 4d4 damage

Magical Healing:

Magical healing is any ability that restores characters in any way, including Transcendent energy sharing. You can use these spells with a dice roll based on their level.

Spell healing is based on the level of the spell, not the level of the character (except in the case of Transcendent energy giving)! However, Chibi senshi should subtract one die from their healing.

First Stage: 10 + 1d4 healing
Second Stage: 10 + 2d4 healing
Third Stage: 10 + 3d4 healing
Fourth Stage: 10 + 4d4 healing

Buff Magic:

Buff magic is any kind of magic that has an effect that boosts allies' abilities. When casting buff magic, roll as follows and quote any targets affected. They will add your total roll to their damage for the round. Chibi Senshi roll one less die!

First Stage: 2d4
Second Stage: 3d4
Third Stage: 4d4
Fourth Stage: 5d4

Shielding Magic:

Depending on the type of shielding magic, it may simply absorb a round's worth of attacks or provide some damage mitigation. Touch base with me individually for shield spells; I'll give you an answer depending on how they're written!

Asmodeus didn't hesitate a moment. Once the doors were open, once the massive automaton was in sight, she charged forward.

No hesitation. This was it. The last thing between her and the Eternal Engine. between her and everything she had wanted since she first set foot on this beautiful, broken, beloved world. Everything she had worked towards, mapping tunnels and dodging traps and automatons and every other defense put between her and the Engine. And there it was.

Silent. Disengaged. But present.

And she was going to get to it.

"Infernal Blaze!

Fire flew from her fingertips towards the ceiling, bursting in a great display of flame.

While the lock falling had startled him slightly, he'd pressed on after Asomdeus and the others. While she was already engaging the thing, he wasn't about to get much closer than he already was, choosing to move into the room enough to help those who could have a bit further range. With a solid clap, he hoped this would help the others as much as it had before.

"Please don't run off this time Brioche. Not after that thing." Mumbling softly to the Muavian as he leaned his cheek into them. It was okay with the little ones, but he couldn't be sure what the massive mechanical thing in front of them could do and he didn't want Brioche to be the one to find out first-hand.

Sailor Scout Attack: Ephermeral Elation
Chang'E claps his hands as if to start a dance, starting his magic. Everyone in the area sees and hears the sounds of excitement and sees some illusions of various colors and patterns, finding themselves elated to the point that everything else fades away. All allies within range could find that in their elation, they are filled with optimism for the future and get a sudden second wind. For the duration of the magic, they will feel refreshed. They will be oblivious to damage/will not feel injuries (though they can still take damage and do not heal), allowing them to focus on their task. The effects fade when the magic fades.
Range: 10 feet
Time: 20 seconds
Uses: 3 Per battle

Pale brown eyes landing on the two sphere automatons from before, Aruna quickly rushed forward and slammed her foot onto the ground. "Rocky Sweep!" It didn't have as much of an impact as her prior attack did in the path, but it did bring of the spheres down. She grinned at herself, feeling a rush of exhilaration at having been actually useful and been able to take a target out.

Rocking up into the chamber where the Eternal Engine waited, Murikabushi felt an immediate sense of Oh, ********…… I ******** up.

Using his most powerful magic to try and take out as many enemies as he could have—it had seemed like such a great idea at the time. It hadn’t taken out everything, but it had done well enough for him……until running into the new chamber revealed the huge ******** standing in front of the Eternal Engine. There was no way that Muri’s magic had recharged by now. It hadn’t even been two full minutes.

Still, there wasn’t any time to hesitate and dither about things. That angry hiss of steam sounded bad, and Aruna was already jumping to action. Murikabushi didn’t understand why the senshi with the patches of snake scales on his sides was dancing—but it also didn’t matter. All of a sudden, a powerful mirth filled Murikabushi. The rush of it felt like any pessimism simply didn’t matter, never needed to matter again, so long as Murikabushi kept moving and helped keep people safe.

Using the unsettled ground from Aruna’s attack, Murikabushi propelled himself into a jump. He aimed himself at the last remaining sphere. With a stray thought toward Lord Ouija—and to how they’d met with said Mauvian kicking him in the ******** head—Murikabushi came down on his target, shattering it with his cute little pumps.

Oh. The enemies that their group had allowed to escape had not actually fled, so much as that they'd retreated to group with something larger and stronger. So while Antisana was pleased that the second door in their pathway had opened without much issue, it did not please him quite as much to have extra bodies as distraction when they should all be taking care to not be terribly injured from the Big Bad.

Two of the other Senshi from his group were already on them, so while his assistance wasn't really needed... he didn't think punching the giant metal dude would have as great an effect as punching one of the smaller metal dudes.

But his magic would probably do next to nothing to it, either. The thing was already in a lonely, dark, empty cavern, so the scenery would barely change between this and what Antisana's magic could conjure. But he didn't have to get close, so there was no harm in trying to cast on it, just to see if these sort of things could be disoriented in such a way... Maybe the peculiar time anomalies of Pluto's magic could do... something.

"I will see what my magic does to it," Antisana told Eleonora quietly, as he cast a quick glance back, just to familiar himself with where the girls were and where anything else was in relation to him, since he would only be looking at the automaton while he was using his magic.

A little tap of the butt of his staff against the stone floor, and he plucked at the threads of his Wonder's power to call forth the magic. There was no extravagant display to accompany it; likely no one else would even realize he was doing anything.
Magic
Antisana can trap one target within his line of sight in a vision of his homeworld: a deep, dark, empty, and impossibly large cavern. While trapped in this illusion, time feels as if it passes more slowly, sometimes excruciatingly slowly. The hallucination can be broken by breaking Antisana’s line of sight. He can cast for up to thirty-five seconds.

By the time Haldane had gathered himself, the spheres were taken out. The safer targets were no longer an option so...the boss it was!

Once again, Haldane's magic did..okay. At least it didn't backfire on himself! That had happened before and he did not like it. You would think that would have been motivation for him to do whatever it was he needed to stabilize his magic, but he hadn't really taken a serious go at the senshi thing until now-ish. Bellatrix had never insisted that he follow this magic path if he didn't want to, and Haldane and his brother were glad for that! But now that he really needed something to keep him busy while his brother was traveling abroad, well....it was out of the freezer and right in to the frying pan!

Haldane didn't really know what effect his magic could possibly have on a machine, but well....in the interest of staying alive, he was glad his magic had at least a little range, and he worried for those that had no choice but to get up close and personal with that thing, attacking with weapons and fists.

Sailor Tempesti hurried into the Engine Room with the group, stopping short as she entered. This place was incredible, like a sleeping dragon on the cusp of awakening. She had never met Sailor Asmodeus before today, but that did nothing to temper the joy she felt for the other senshi’s approaching triumph. As the massive plume of flame which burst forth from the eternal senshi’s hands burned away her musings, she readied herself to fight.

The remaining automata from the southern passage did not last long under the onslaught the others brought down upon them. She couldn’t rid herself of the nagging guilt that lingered as she watched the remaining two spheres meet their end. Even the fact that she wasn’t the one who ended them didn’t put a damper on the great innate skill she cultivated so attentively: finding new reasons to feel guilty for things she may or may not be able to control. She’d never been Catholic, but she could probably self-flagellate with the greats given the proper training.

Still, they had to take care of the great lumbering automaton that stood between them and their goal. Fearing what her magic might do if the others were too close to her, she ran clear of them, bringing herself just close enough for her ability to strike.

Drawing a deep breath, the senshi of harpies shouted “Bitter blast!”

As the wind whipped up and lightning began striking all around her she forced herself to keep her eyes open. No hiding from it.

Eleonora, Senshi of Heat
Super Sailor Scout Attack: Cone of Heat (no flame involved it has the visual similar to heat rising off asphalt)
After calling out her attack, Sailor Alcorb (Elenora) hands get very hot and take on a redish tint which last for 15 seconds. In order for this attack to be effective Sailor Alcorb (Elenora) must be facing the opponent. Putting her hands together in front of her a cone of heat erupts where she is standing towards the enemy.

Attack Duration : 15 seconds max (while her hands are red and together)
Range : 6' with a 3' diameter at max range
Effect : While her hands are apart they still maintain the redish tint and the attack functions the same as her basic attack. Once contact is made the area begins to get hot at a rapid rate and burns will set in, with this being a cone the affected area will be larger than her first attack. Her magic causes any area she comes into contact with to suffer the sensation of first degree sunburn in terms of pain/discomfort. If contact is maintained for more than five seconds blisters appear in relation to a second degree sunburn. These effects are only guaranteed to last for only the duration of the magic, but if a player wants their character to retain some injury afterwards they may choose to retain some blisters or sunburn.
Number of times : 3 times and does not discriminate between Chaos and Order
Aftermath Duration : The burns duration lasts for 20 seconds after contact is broken for the person to 'cool down' time may take longer depending on weather. Only if a player chooses, their character may also suffer from residual blisters or burn marks.

Pro: She can attempt to form the cone as many times as possible in the 15 second window. However, her hands remain very hot so watch out.
Con: Interrupt-able, so long as you keep her hands apart no cone of heat happens.
Alcor, Senshi of Cold
Super Sailor Scout Attack: Cone of Cold
After calling out her attack, Sailor Alcor hands get very cold and take on a bluish tint which last for 15 seconds. In order for this attack to be effective Sailor Alcor must be facing the opponent. Putting her hands together in front of her a cone of cold erupts where she is standing towards the enemy.

Effect : Once contact is made the area begins to get cold at a rapid rate and frostbite will set in, with this being a cone the affected area will be larger than her first attack. While her hands are apart they still maintain the bluish tint and the attack functions the same as her basic attack.

Reims groaned at the sight of the giant creature. Of course there had to be some giant monster to fight. Cool. Okay. They could do this.

“If you’re going to attack, stay to my right. I don’t think my magic will catch you on that side,” he warned Dering, but bumped his elbow gently against his friend. “You’ll be fine. I’ve got your back,” he promised. He knew Dering didn’t always have confidence in himself, but he was determined and wanted to help. So Reims would encourage him however he could.

Mary, look out for that crossbow,” he called over his shoulder, watching as the creature prepared to attack. Reims tapped into his magic, showering the creature with light and glass as he made contact with his sword, swung much like a bat.

Target: Boss (due to DSS Magic Glitch™, only one target will be hit by her magic)
Damage Done: 10 + 9 (Buff) + 1 (AoS) + 7 = 27

That there'd be another fight on their hands, more defenses left to guard the Eternal Engine, wasn't a huge surprise, but Solaris did pause a bit in awe seeing the huge automaton that stood between them and the final goal.

These things were amazing! And... sure, some fell pretty quick to the onslaught that entered from both sides, but there was magic backing those attacks. Still spoke to the skill and strength of the original designs, in her mind.

Giving a low, impressed whistle, she felt the rush of excitement from another boost from the other alien senshi from before, and grinned widely as she lifted her hand to snap her fingers towards the big one still standing. "Catalytic Combustion!"

Aware at least of others already also heading for it, Solaris aimed more upwards to try and reduce her chance of hitting others with the resulting blast--though, somewhat to her amusement (and some chagrin) the explosion that was set off when the orb hit the automaton was... still a lot smaller than her magic usually was. Hm. Well. Not the worst timing for it.... she wasn't going to complain on this.

_________𝔖 She points her fingers with one hand like a 'gun' to direct her magic at a target. Snapping those fingers, Solaris creates a spark that stays in front of her hand. This spark is the catalyst for a rapidly growing flood of energy to pool into an expanding, fuzzy ball in front of her hand. It maxes out in size of about 3 inches diameter (the size of a baseball). This ball of golden, condensed light and energy then shoots out towards the target Solaris' pointer finger is directed at. The ball can travel up to fifteen feet before exploding and dispersing, even if it hasn't hit a target by that point. Anyone hit by the ball itself, or the resulting explosion, are subject to blunt force damage and rapid, high heat when the ball explodes that last for only five seconds. The extent of the damage is up to the player, at minimum should cause moderate bruising, and slight blistering on exposed skin from the heat. Solaris can use this magic up to two times a day.

There it was again! That wonderful blast of confidence and excitement that filled Brioche with the mightiest of urge to FIGHT! He was rumbling away, ready to slash and dash and body slam things left and right.

And yet, he could not.

Not when his dearest Senshi asked him so kindly to stay put. He wanted to eye those other smaller things, ones that were similar to the ones he "took down" before, yet there they went, down before he could even blink at them.

Anxiety was creeping up quickly, smothering out what his excited heart had once thought it was capable of.

Here, he was useless. What could he even hope to do against a monstrous creature like this? He would only get in the way, maybe even get hurt, or be the reason why his senshi got hurt..

"Okay... I stay here."He whispered back, nuzzling Chang'E's cheek before going back to his perch on his Senshi's shoulder. He would stay out of the way, But should something happen to Chang'E, he would be the first to jump in to protect him, even if there was little he could do.

As soon as the door had opened, Chillingham was immediately in awe at the thing. It was so cool! But even if it looked like something super amazing and awesome, it was apparently a problem. Especially with how big it was, she wasn't even sure where to begin at first as it seemed to start up and come to action.

Seeing some of the others starting for it to attack, she knew what to do! With that feeling of a second wind and that her choices were totally right and she didn't need to stop and think, she ran forward to slam her pumpkin cauldron into it. "Let's goooo!"

Maybe her brother might have yelled, but he wasn't here and she didn't have to tell him about this with all the details being accurate. She'd definitely tell him about making more friends and getting to learn about more things in space that weren't scary or violent. No nothing like that at all, just super amazing and magical things.

Keeping her distance, partially deciding if this was any of her problem now that the little cipher and puzzle had been solved, she sighed as she saw the group heading forward and fighting. The thing that was protecting this... eternal engine as it was apparently called seemed more than most could handle in her opinion. It also looked like it could easily squash anyone too close to it, and she wasn't about to risk her own skin for this planet, it wasn't hers and honestly she wouldn't even make an attempt if something like this was on her planet.

That snakelike senshi seemed to be dancing, with the sound of music and colors floating from them almost like some sort of celebration. It seemed out of place and then this rush of feeling started to rise. It made her feel like she could do something, could participate, and could help these senshi and knights.

It started to bubble up in her chest and she ignored it, knowing that she'd never been one to be up close anyway. Sure she'd do something maybe to help, she had the energy to do so, but she wasn't an idiot. So kicking around again with her heel she found a bit of metal from one of the other downed things and heaved it at the large automaton that everyone was targeting. It did intrigue her, but not enough to warrant her getting close.
