The leaves are changing colors, and there's a chill in the air. You'll be lucky if the smell of cinnamon and pumpkin spice is the worst thing lurking around the corner. But, Destiny City is in good spirits, and is ready to celebrate--and we hope you are, too!

This year we've brought back some old prompts, brought in some new ones, and have a returning RNG RP Event! More information can be found in the Ticket Opportunities and RP Prompts! Our artists have been hard at work to bring us some stunning new characters, and all players can also earn a Halloween 2023 Treat Bag through RP participation!

Roleplay opportunities will only be open from now until ~6pm EST on October 30th, but players can use roleplays started as early as October 1st towards their ticket and prize claims. The raffle will be rolled after a ticket list is compiled and winners will have 72 hours to contact the shop mule, The Space Cauldron, with their preference list. Anyone who does not respond within 72 hours will forfeit their slot.

Rules and Information

 • All players are eligible to participate in the Halloween Event to earn Tickets for our Raffle and a Halloween 2023 Treat Bag. Players who are over Character Cap cannot win new powered art in the raffle, but they can win Alternate Civilian outfits; this civilian art can be used for existing characters or new characters. Players who are on cooldown can still win new art; prizes won in the raffle do not go on any character cooldown.

 • Up to five raffle tickets can be earned for writing 500 words in any roleplay or solo; players do not need to use event prompts but can earn a ticket for any roleplay or solo started as of October 1st, and that has at least 500 words as of 6PM EST October 30th.

 • Characters can participate as powered or civilian; these prompts are free to play with. You may choose to use the prompt as inspiration for a roleplay; it does not need to follow the prompt exactly but it must be clearly inspired by or related to it in some way!

 • If you are a new player who is interested in joining, please remember that you can get your first civilian character for free! Information can be found here! If you need help setting up a profile, you can PM The Space Cauldron and we'll be able to work with you!

 • Roleplay opportunities for the raffle will only be open from now until ~6 PM EST on Monday, October 30th. At that point in time, the raffle list will be finalized and we will begin rolling. Players will have 72 hours to submit prize preferences, and winners will be announced at the 72 hour mark or as soon as all winners have sent in their preference list. Some events, like the Treat Bag, will be open through the 31st, so please check the dates on anything you are interested in!

 • All other shop rules apply during this event. Have fun!

Ticket Opportunities and RP Prompts

Ticket Opportunities

Tickets can be earned from any roleplay started from October 1st until 6PM EST October 30th. Roleplays or solos do not need to be finished but players must write at least 500 words to earn a ticket. Players do not need to use event themed prompts, but the shop has provided a few for inspiration, including some legacy prompts and some new ones!

Players can earn up to five tickets for the raffle. If you want to write for a prompt for requirements, or just for fun, that’s fine! To claim a ticket, you will need to fill out the following code and post it in this thread!

I AM CLAIMING A TICKET
Link to thread: [link to the thread you are claiming for; if you are responding to a prompt, make sure you indicate which prompt you are responding to either in this form or the thread!]

Prompts

All prompt responses must be posted in the Mini-Event subforum and can be written as a solo, a regular, or a battle (if applicable!). These should be labelled [Event-S], [Event-R], or [Event-B]. If you roleplay a disposable, these will not count towards any growth requirements for them, but if you are roleplaying with someone who has a disposable, it can still count for growth for your official character. To be eligible for any prizes, you must write at least five hundred words per roleplay. You should include the prompt you are using in the first post of the RP or Solo. The roleplay does not have to be finished to count towards a prize (unless otherwise stated) but it will need to be finished before it can be used for growth requirements. While these events are written so that you only need a civilian to participate, you can play a powered character! In addition to a few new prompts for this year, we are recycling some prompts from previous years so characters who didn't get to participate before can experience them now!

Please remember--prompts are meant to be inspirations for your roleplays. You do not have to follow them completely, but the roleplay or solo should be obviously inspired by or related to the prompt you are using.

Legacy Prompts:

Quote:
Shadow Stalker (1) - You're walking in the dark and soon hear the sound of footsteps following behind you. Every time you turn around, nothing is there. If you try to quicken your pace, the footsteps start running right along with you. No matter how you try to see behind you--if you use your phone camera or if you look in window reflections, you can't see anything...but you know it's getting closer. If you don't run fast enough, you can almost feel a hand on your arm, a breath on your neck...

You need to get out of here, fast. If you can.

Once you reach your destination and are safely inside, there might be a banging on the doors or windows. The air is heavy, but after a few moments it seems to lift. You have the distinct sensation that something is still out there, though. You just don’t know what.

Quote:
Bat Behemoth (2) - Construction, deforestation, typical Destiny City mishaps–you never know what you’re going to get around here. It starts with a squeak in the sky, and the flapping of heavy wings. If it’s dark enough, maybe you don’t even see the giant bat descending on you. They were pests a few years ago but seemed to have cleared out for the most part–except for a stray one here or there. This one is large even by comparison. It has an eight foot wingspan–a behemoth, growing fat and large in the years since the bats last descended on Destiny City. Maybe you’re lucky, maybe it just swoops by.

Maybe it’s hungry, or mad, and you look like a prime target. If it attacks, you’re in for a rough time. Scratches cause an itch that might last for up to a day, but the bites are the worst. Being bitten by these bats leaves two small marks that will itch for a few hours. Then, exhaustion and fatigue sets in and you become extremely sensitive to external stimulus; skin feels like it becomes overheated in sunlight, bright lights are painful to the eyes, and smells and sounds can seem overwhelming. The victim will feel constantly cold and hungry, no matter how much they eat or drink. They may also be prone to agitation and bouts of violence. These afflictions may last only a few hours or a few days and then suddenly disappear.

(Being attacked by the bat can be counted as a battle once per character provided there are at least two powered characters involved; no matter how much you seem to damage the bat, it will always fly away and hardly even seems worse for the wear. You cannot track it or severely damage it. This prompt can be used for the battle or the afterwards of being attacked, or anything else you might be inspired to play!)

Quote:
The Dogs (3) - Destiny City News reports several sightings of 'rabid dogs' appearing throughout the city. Those interviewed claim that the dogs would surround them and chase them down the streets, seemingly popping in and out of sight until the person finally found themselves in a well lit area. You have the misfortune of running into these same dogs.

They cling to the shadows as you go about your way at night. Seemingly at the corner of your vision, one flickers by, and you turn and see nothing. Again and again it happens. They are trying to drive you into the darkest corners of the city, herding you away from the light. In the nearby distance are the lights of the city: streetlights, signs, traffic. You have to do something to get there, to escape these creatures. When you make it to any significant light source, you hear a low growl, a wailing hiss; the dogs have vanished.

For now.

Quote:
The Scream (4) - Late one night, you find yourself in a fairly under populated area of town. You’ve been strangely alone for the past few moments when you see movement out of the corner of your eye. Only a few yards away you see a young woman with tear-stained cheeks and a long white gown. It is difficult to make out any more details; she seems to be running from something. She looks like she is screaming but makes no sound; even her footsteps seem to be silent. If you try to chase her, you will wind up in a dead end—alone, and suddenly, cold. It feels like something has slammed into you and turned your blood to ice, but there’s no one around. No matter what you do, the chill remains until morning—but the image of the woman’s fear-filled face may haunt your dreams for much longer.

Quote:
Static Plea (5) - With Halloween just around the corner, television stations and streaming services are constantly playing various spooky themed movies and episodes of your favorite shows. When you sit down to watch something in particular, the screen goes static. You try to change the channel or pick a different show but every one of them is static. If you continue to watch (or attempt to fix the television), an eerie voice comes across the speakers begging for help and warns you that they're coming. No matter what you do or say, they only repeat the same phrases. When you turn off the television and turn it back on again, everything has turned to its regularly scheduled programming.

Quote:
One Foggy Night (6) - As the seasons shift, the temperature changes too. It’s not uncommon for fog to roll in, sometimes from the mountains, sometimes out of nowhere. This fog is particularly thick and difficult to see through; Destiny City has issued several weather warnings and cautions being out or driving at night. It’s easy to get lost and difficult to see obstacles. Not to mention the strange, smothering sensation of dread and fear that rolls in with the fog. While there is sometimes the sensation of being watched, it worsens when the sun goes down. Some have even said they’ve caught glimpses of a tall, horned figure traveling with the fog. The news has reported that this is probably just a side effect of climate change and suspects that weather patterns should return to normal towards the end of the month.

Quote:
The Leaves (7) - With the changing seasons, there are piles of leaves all around Destiny City. It’s a difficult job to try and keep up with them all, and sometimes the allure of these leaf piles is impossible to ignore. Maybe they just need a good kick? Or, who doesn’t want to relive the childish joys of their youth? And no one’s around to see, right? So why not jump into a pile of leaves? Oh–because, when you do, you jump through one pile and come out of another somewhere else across the city. The leaves all seem ordinary, but there’s a few odd seconds between when you jump into the leaves and when you jump out; it feels like falling, tumbling, somersaulting through the air. It’s not scary, just odd. You see walls of leaves–brown and orange and yellow and red–and they crunch magnificently. Overall, it doesn’t seem menacing, just a bit of trickster fun. If you try to step into, or jump in a pile of leaves again, you might wind up somewhere else entirely–or right back where you started.

New Prompts:

Quote:
Eight-legged Issues ( 8 ) - Small webs have begun to appear all over Destiny City at an alarming pace. The thin strands of webbing are surprisingly resilient and can be difficult to break, but that’s to be expected when you’ve got the charm of Destiny City’s unnatural wildlife. At least you’re not dealing with the car sized spiders of a few years ago. While the webs appear with great frequency all over the city, it can be difficult to see the spiders themselves. They are about an inch long at their largest, but even if they were smaller, it wouldn’t matter. They are almost completely invisible. When on their webs, they look like morning dew. When on you? Same thing. Thankfully, these spiders seem to want to keep to themselves, but it’s hard to do that when you can’t see them. If agitated, the spiders will bite. Being bitten can cause nausea, dizziness, fatigue and hallucinations. These symptoms can begin immediately after being bitten or can manifest up to a few hours after the toxins are introduced to the bloodstream. These symptoms may only last for a few hours—or up to a few days. No medicine seems to help this ailment, so you’re stuck weathering this one out on your own.

Quote:
Poisoned Apples (9) - Did you think it would be safe to get a sweet treat? Wrong. A nearby orchard, popular for their sweet and crispy apples, had no idea they were sending contaminated fruit into the city. Organic, healthy, and delicious, no one could have anticipated the issues that were going to arise this year. It wasn't caught quickly enough, and now many apple based fall treats are having surprising side effects. You'll know something is wrong by the first bite, the first sip; the apple tastes almost like a lemon and no matter what you do, the flavor won't leave. It lingers for a few minutes or a few hours. People are walking around town with watery eyes and puckered lips. Some have described symptoms like an allergic reaction, but most people compare it to eating sour candy. There doesn't appear to be any long term health issues, and Destiny City has come up with several online challenges and dares trying to make the best of the very sour apples. Many local establishments are using them in contests and promotions, so it seems like people are determined to have fun with it. But...should you really be eating an apple with juice so sour it can brown the grass it spills on?

Quote:
The Hawkins Cemetery (10) - Between constant destruction and expansions, Destiny City is always changing–and yet, forgotten by time, something of an old world remains. An old, unfinished, eyesore of a building finally gave way and crumbled, and while the city was clearing debris, they found something strange–an old dirt path that led downwards. An exploration of the area led to an underground cavern, but the greater mystery is that there is an unmarked cemetery underneath Destiny City. An old metal gate marks this as the Hawkins Cemetery, and Destiny City is alive with questions. Articles have popped up online and in the papers, podcasts are aplenty, and even the local news is eagerly asking questions.

The Hawkins Cemetery is not exactly open to the public, but it really isn’t too hard to sneak in. The City is quick to respond to disturbances, but as long as you aren’t making mischief, you’re mostly free to explore. There are no lights leading into the cemetery, or in the cemetery itself, but once you arrive it is impossible to miss the strange glow illuminating the area. Bioluminescent mushrooms grow all around, casting a soft white–and sometimes grey–glow about the room. It’s enough to make your way around, but if you want to see, you should come with your own lighting. There are rows of tombstones and statues, and even a few strange trees. You aren’t alone down here; if you keep to yourself, you’ll find that while this might be a cemetery, there’s still life all around you.

Quote:
Magic Mushrooms (11) - Peppering the roof of the cave, the walls, and even some pockets of cool, packed dirt, these strange mushrooms range from the size of peas to grapefruits and have a round cap that seems to vary greatly in terms of height, width, and shape. They have soft, resilient gills, and stems that are either short and stout or tall and narrow. These mushrooms have an odd, natural bioluminescence across their whole form. There has been some enthusiastic debate about what causes this, but the general understanding is that it’s perfectly natural. The mushrooms are able to grow in this area due to the mineral content in the waters, the cool, dark environment, the rich soil, and the unique makeup of the plants and trees in the area. The mushrooms are unique in their brightness. If removed from the area, they can glow for a few hours before they will eventually fade and begin to deteriorate. While these mushrooms may be kept in small quantities, it requires great effort to keep them alive outside of the cave. And why would you want to? The mushrooms have a bitter flavor and consuming them can result in stomach pains–if you can even keep them down long enough. If there’s a way to cook these, or do anything at all with them, no one’s found it yet.

Quote:
The Guardian (12) - Maybe you expected weeds and mushrooms down here. Maybe you expected bugs. You probably didn’t expect a raven. Or, at least, it looks like a raven. It is a rather large bird, and seems so impeccably groomed that it almost doesn’t even look real. It has no dust, no dirt, no feathers out of line. Sometimes, it seems to mind its own business, but in the darkness you can hear its flapping wings and scratching the ground nearby. All the same, it is very curious about you. Sometimes it will follow you around. It is unintimidated by you in the slightest, and seems to hold no regard for personal boundaries. It might stand at your feet, or on your shoe, or land on your shoulder if it feels like it. It will pick through your hair or pockets, like it is looking for something. It likes jewelry, and you might be wise to remove what you have once the bird starts poking around.

The raven does not just croak or chatter, it talks. Sometimes, it will repeat what you say perfectly. Sometimes it will repeat it in a mocking tone. Sometimes it says something completely new. Maybe you hear it whisper ‘help me’, or you hear it weep, or scream, but sometimes–when you look at it–it seems like it understands. Occasionally, it makes a vague observation about your expression or hair, and while it does not carry out a conversation, there is an intelligence in its eyes that makes it seem like it’s amused by you. It cannot be caught and will shriek and attack if you attempt to cause it, or the cemetery, any harm. It will bite, scratch, and peck until it chases you way, so it’s best to do no harm and let it be.

Quote:
Old Lives (13) - Tombstones, carved out of an assortment of different materials, are aplenty in the Hawkins’ Cemetery. Some look more professional than others, but these were all clearly hand carved. Some graves have no name, only a blank slab, but more often than not each is marked with a name and date. The handwriting and skill differs and it doesn’t seem like there’s much consistency in who was doing the work down here. The interesting part is that some of the graves have years that predate Destiny City’s establishment, and none of the names on the graves can be found in any registrar or census. Right now, there’s no telling who these people were–or how they came to be buried here. For any history buff, this might be both odd and exciting, but for the average person? They might just leave feeling like there’s a sentence at the tip of their tongue, like there’s a memory just out of reach. They may dream of people they never knew, and conversations they were almost a part of. None of it makes sense; it’s impossible to make out any detail or understand any word, but there is always a desperate distress and a pleading cry. It’s an odd sensation–probably just fueled by your imagination, right? And yet, it’s difficult to chase the questions out of your mind.

Quote:
Life in Stone (14) - An artist–or many–went to great lengths to make sure this place was covered in art. Sculptures and statues of all sorts have been put up around the cemetery. Some pieces look like they might have been in a set–beautiful women in long flowing dresses and faceless angels seem to be the most common figures. There are a few odd pieces–a handsome, but monstrous looking man lies in pieces in the ground, and little demonic figures are almost equally completely destroyed. There are no names or identifying marks on the statues, and the stone is heavy but difficult to identify. The statues watch over the cemetery with a solemn presence.

And, they move. You can’t prove it, of course, but more than once, a statue seems to shift position, or even drift to another part of the cemetery entirely. No matter where you stand, their eyes always seem to be on you. You never see them make a move, but they always see you make yours.

Quote:
The Orbs (15) - The cave is beautiful, but if you hope to preserve its image anywhere but your mind, you are very much out of luck. Any efforts to photograph the area are met with disappointment. When taking a photograph, strange light orbs speckle the image, blurring out everything you hoped to view. Video has nearly the same effect; the image is always blurred and catches only streaks of white orbs. Audio is distorted, replaced with an odd sound of heavy breathing and strange, whispered chanting. You can’t see the orbs naturally, but after bright photography, you can sometimes make out their fading shapes in front of you. Maybe it’s just the water vapor in the air, or small bugs making a quick escape. If you take too many photographs or disrupt the area too much, you may be the unfortunate victim of sudden cold spells, as if small, icy orbs are pelting your body; it feels like an ice cube pressed against your skin.

Quote:
The Offerings (16) - Someone has been placing gifts on the graves. Often, they are flowers, woven in crowns or in small bouquets, or tiny, carved figures of stone or wood. Sometimes, it’s a patch, or a little doll. The items almost always appear to be handmade and have a sort of timelessness about them. Sometimes they appear one day when they weren’t there before, but no one knows where they’ve come from. Some gifts seem old, but some seem new, despite using similar materials. It’s best to leave them alone, but if you filch anything from the cemetery, you will find yourself with a strange row of bad luck. Strange scratches and bruises are common, as well as pulled hair, and sometimes even what looks to be an odd bite mark. The attacks stop if you return the item, but if you don’t, it doesn’t matter. One day it will be gone and the attack will stop. If you return to the cemetery, you may find that someone has returned it for you.

Quote:
Bloody Roots (17) - None of the trees in Hawkins’ Cemetery have any leaves to cloak them, and it is impossible to tell if they ever did. The trees all seem to be husks of themselves, withered and dead but somehow still alive. At least, insofar, as they still have strong roots and sturdy trunks. They range in height and prominence. The largest of all trees has branches that stretch to the roof cave and at one point in time grew along it. Large roots have dug into the ground and the carved out walls of the cavern, and there’s no telling how deep they stretch. All of the trees in the cemetery are interesting–but perhaps the one over Amelia Ashenheart’s grave is the most interesting. It is not the largest, and it doesn’t have the most expansive branch or root system. It is black and twisted and hangs just a bit overhead. A dark sap leaks from it, and it looks like black tar unless you touch it. The liquid is red and has a strange smell; it is oddly warm, given the chill of the area, and it even seems to pulse, if you look long enough. If you cut the tree, it seems to bleed. The roots stretch into the ground, into the grave, and wrap around the area protectively. There is something both comforting and dangerous about this tree, and it seems wise to be careful. If the red substance stays on your skin for too long, it will develop a rash and can be uncomfortable, so it isn’t wise to play with it. It is assumed it’s just some bacteria in the tree, but knowing that doesn’t make it any less unnerving.

Quote:
Equivalent Exchange ( 18 ) - It seems as though this place has been forgotten by the world for a long time, and those laid to rest here were forgotten along with it. Some graves have been given small, strange little gifts, and some have flowers that are old and withered. There are many graves that have nothing. If you bring a gift down to the graves, you will be filled with a soft warmth, and it feels as though your worries are lifted. The sensation follows you home, and when you sleep that night, you have pleasant, safe dreams. When you awaken, you will find some sort of strange gift next to your bed–a dried flower, a string of beads, a small charm–something strange and dated. It is not often something of value, but there is a warmth in the object. It feels like a gift given with love.
