- In the Name of the Moon utilizes two systems to limit character acquisition. Rather than a concrete cap on the maximum amount of characters a player can have, the shop has implemented a points-based system to encourage players to grow their characters before getting more. When a player obtains a new character, they are placed on a separate cooldown. Outside of events and special circumstances, players can only get new characters every three months through raffles, customs, or Crown Token purchase.
Character Cap
- To calculate points for the Character Cap, the shop is using a point scale that only factors in ungrown characters. Characters who have reached their final stage, or who do not have another stage to grow into, will not be counted towards the character count. This means a player can have an unlimited amount of third stage characters, civilians, or youma, because they do not have growth requirements to reach to grow.
First stage characters will have a value of two points. Second stage characters will have a value of one point. Mauvians who have not unlocked their humanoid form have a value of one point; once they reach their humanoid form, they count for zero points.
This was first implemented July 1st 2021, and at that time players could not obtain new characters unless they did not meet or exceed 30 points. As of March 1st 2022 it has dropped to 15 points and is expected to stay at this amount.
This means, a player will need to have fourteen points or fewer to be eligible to claim a new powered character through MYO, raffle, custom, crown tokens, or other shop hosted event. Players who are at or over the 15 point cap can still get new, unarted civilian characters but they cannot upgrade them until they are below cap.
A character that has been posted for growth and has been added to an artist’s worklist, added to an MYO artist’s worklist, or added to the grab bag will be counted as the rank they have been posted to grow to. For example, if a first stage character has been posted and is in the grab bag, it will only count for one point, as they have reached second stage requirements and are on their way to being grown.
Characters who have double side swapped and lost a rank, or characters who have lost a rank for another ICly plotted reason, will be counted as the highest IC rank they have achieved. If you have a third stage character who double side swaps and returns to second stage, or even first, they will still count for 0 points because they have already ICly earned their third stage.
Characters that have been killed can no longer be played and will not accrue any points towards the character cap total. Characters who are out of play and may return or on hiatus still count towards the character count cap tally.
Additionally, players will only be able to acquire templated alt art if they have 14 points or fewer. While they are still free to acquire unlimited MYO alt art of their characters, regardless of plot reasons, they will not be eligible to acquire templated alt art (either civilian or powered) for any character if they meet or exceed the character cap total. The limit on alt art is only meant to be temporary and exists to allow our templated artists to adjust to any potential influx of growths as the cap is being tested out.

Character and Art Cooldowns
- Official shop cooldowns for new characters won through Customs, purchased with Crown Tokens, Credits, or through MYO are as follows:
Powered Cooldowns:
- You may only purchase one new powered character every three months; all new powered characters are on the same cooldown regardless of how they were purchased.
You may only get one piece of Templated Alternate Powered Art every three months. Alternate Powered art has a separate cooldown than new powered art, so being on a list for either of them does not lock you out from acquiring the other.
Alternate Powered MYO Art is not on the same cooldown as Templated Alternate Powered Art; Alternate MYO Art does not have any cooldown at all.
Civilian Cooldowns:
- All civilian characters and civilian art is on the same cooldown. If you get a new civilian, with or without art, you will be on cooldown for one month. Alternatively, you may get one piece of Alternate Civilian Art and go on cooldown for a month instead. You cannot get a new civilian character or any civilian art until you are off of this shared cooldown.
If you elect to get civilian art at the time you receive a new powered character, you will also go on cooldown for civilian art. If you are already on civilian cooldown you will not be eligible to get more civilian art, so please plan accordingly!
Other Cooldown Information:
- Quest Fairies do not follow the Cooldown system; you may be Quest Fairied for something even if you are on the Cooldown List. If you are given a Quest Fairied character or art, you will not be put on the Cooldown List. This is considered a special piece of art for a player who the shop would like to acknowledge.
Characters won through auctions or bribes do not go on cooldown.
Rehomed characters do not have a cooldown.
Event or Contest wins do not go on a cooldown; please see each individual event rules for information on how cooldowns might be factored in! Sometimes we will run contests or events that require you not to have won an event/contest character within a certain time period, but the event win cooldown is separate from the free cooldown listed here.
Unique Art purchased through the shop from one of our Shop Artists goes on a six month cooldown. This is not the same as MYO Slots; MYO Slots use RLC and payment is handled offsite with approved artists, but Unique Art is provided from the shop using Crown Tokens or Credits.
