Not only was the Technology team the first on the scene, but they also had the most complicated setup.

There were, of course, computers, so that the most technologically advanced of them could try to gain access to the bank’s digital files, and so that others could look over audio recordings from the previous weeks in search of something the others might have missed. On top of that, they had handheld devices specifically designed to disrupt the signals of the security cameras in the area, and some of the other technology.

There was one side door that only had a digital lock.

This was the first prong of the mission, and because of that, communication with the other teams was extremely important. They’d been asked to have at least one person have a senshi phone on speaker so that they could talk to the others easily.

Since none of the Technology team’s work required them to actually go inside the building, Perdita, Spei, Chaldene, Hydor, Eleonora, Alcor, Sigiriya, Cepheus, Osiris, Terebellum, Connie, Hercynia, Amsvartnir, Koeia, Vaylin, Belmont, Antisana, Targovishte, and Mirosnjha were instead based on a nearby rooftop.

The Velencyan among them might have turned some heads, but she had come with the recommendation of “not being mean”, and she seemed willing to help.

The laptops were set up, devices handed out, and then it was time.

The question was, what would each of them do first?

Would they stay with the laptops and try to investigate, or would they go down with the devices and work on disrupting the signal?

Welcome to the CYOA portion of the Operation: Loanshark event!

Each prompt comes with a bolded choice. Picking one will progress a unique path, leading to one of eight possible endings! Characters are encouraged to split up and explore different options in order to unlock the full story.

There are a few “bad endings” depending on what choices your character makes, but any consequences for these are extremely minor, and you are free to reach out if you have any questions or concerns.

Updates will be every 48 hours, with the next one being May 17 ~7PM. You can make up prompts during the week the event is running, but you are heavily encouraged to try to keep up and post, even if it’s only a sentence!

Please include your character’s name and choice at the top of your post, and have fun!

Page Hercynia
Action: Going down with a device

Hercynia realized she had probably made a mistake choosing the 'technology' group when she arrived and saw what everyone was doing. Strange, wondrous things that left her completely and utterly baffled. She was only marginally good with computers... the type of skill one picked up just by using something every day. That was pretty much it. She couldn't have hacked her way out of a paper bag, let alone actually done something useful here.

It left her feeling very out of sorts, standing awkwardly to the side as everyone made themselves busy. All she could really do was stay out of the way...

Also unfortunately, there was no one she really knew here, enough to cling to and follow along for guidance. It left her watching the others, and trying very hard to stare at those among them with oddly colored skin. And horns? Very hard not to stare and wonder, her tongue tied up with all the questions she wanted to ask. Who were these people?

The offer of descending with devices was a welcome distraction and Hercynia stepped forward with the other volunteers, taking one of the devices. At least she could be a gofer, and take this where it would do some good.

Eternal Hydor, Senshi of Mesocyclones
Action: Working with the laptops

Once again, the Negaverse was at it with something else, and Hydor had just rolled his eyes in exasperation when he read the notice. Really? At this point, he had gotten used to hearing these things, having been at least adjacent to ridiculous Destiny City nonsense happening for more than a decade, and it didn't faze him beyond exasperation. What did catch his attention, though?

They were actually going to do some s**t about it.

It was something he knew he could help with, too. Technology was literally his field, for better or for worse, and while he had never been a black hat hacker or even a white hat, he certainly had dabbled with hacking. It was part of how he earned money on occasion, finding security holes in products and reporting them, sometimes resulting in them paying him to do an audit. It was a job, at least.

This felt similar, but the payment of the job would be at least slightly less upsetting the universe balance bullshit. Had more cosmic importance or whatever. He wasn't sure how much he cared about that in the moment so much as he knew this was important, and he could do something about it, which gave him a lot more power than he normally felt he had as a cog in the capitalist machine.

Hydor sat himself down in the nearest location he could, pulling the monitor of the laptop open to take a look at what he was working with.

Super Sailor Perdita, Senshi of Plenty
Choice: Going down with a device.

She missed Oberon.

Perdita would never tell him that (maybe she’d imply it), but she was painfully aware that this was his area of expertise more than hers. Unfortunately, Oberon was out of town fulfilling internship obligations, which left Perdita a bit aimless.

She didn’t often do this sort of thing. Part of her wondered if she should have this time. She couldn’t suppress her nerves. It wasn’t the danger that worried her; she’d grown used to danger as a young Chibi senshi. What worried her more was the innocent people who might be affected by this. The Negaverse might be engaging in some sort of operation, but normal people banked here.

Perdita bit her lip, conflicted. She wanted to help. She wanted to thwart the Negaverse’s plans, but she didn’t know if this was the right choice.

She’d made the choice, though. She wasn’t going to abandon her allies now.

With a calming breath, Perdita took one of the disruptor devices and left the rooftop.

Sailor Terebellum, Deep Space Senshi of Resonance
Choice: Devices
[ FYI, she looks VERY alien ]

If you asked Terebellum how she'd gotten into this whole plan, she'd point vaguely in the direction of fighting Chaos. She was decent at that, even if her magic still wouldn't settle from being in stasis for so long. She could still kick and punch with the best of them, which did a lot more in terms of damage than her magic. But fighting Chaos was fighting Chaos and the plan had seemed sound enough when she was briefed on it.

Technology on Earth was less, and more, complicated than that she remembered on Terebellum. Less complicated, in that they weren't powered by crystal energies or sporting holo displays. More complicated, in that nothing here had a Resonant she could sense which meant more manual application. And humans liked to layer security on top of security, since they couldn't sync it to a specific Resonant.

Which meant she was sort of out of her depth with the laptops at the moment.

Tere stood out among the group, with her green skin and horns and tail, but at least she wasn't the only alien. She gave a nod to the Velencyan in the group, and took out her device. Disrupting signals was something she'd encountered often on Terebellum, back when she was first awakened, so she thought it might be a good fit for her.

She dropped off the rooftop with a silent flutter of cloth, setting out to her task.

Eternal Chaldene
Action: Laptop work.

After hearing everything that was going on Ian had easily decided what he was doing, he wasn't much for wandering around whilst looking innocent. He was a hacker and he knew he was good; they could use him here. That said he grabbed a laptop, and whatever else he'd need, and the eternal made his way towards the knight he knew. "Work together." It wasn't much of a question but rather a statement. He knew the other and they'd worked together before, though not in rl so much when it came to hacking. But they did know each other in the real world now.

Brushing the long section of dark hair from his face, he did not need it in his way, the dark haired senshi opened his laptop as he poloped onto the rooftop next to the other. "I wonder how hard the system will be to get into." He would assume the Negaverse had hackers on their side...those who could give them a hard time getting in. They wouldn't be so stupid as to not protect their system...right?

Leaning over to the other he whispered his thoguht to him. "Wanna bet they have their own group of hackers we'll be against?" Which, for Chaldene, made thigns far more interesting and fun. He rather enjoyed what he did, it was why he was so good. If more senshi thigns could focus on technology, like this, he might actually live up to having the wings on his butt that he had

Page Sigiriya of Ida is Disrupting the Signal

Truthfully he didn’t really understand what was going on but he was there because Antares was there, that was the only reason really. He wanted to do everything he could to help her and protect her even if that meant diving into a dangerous situation. When the plan was laid out and he was looking at the options his first reaction was to stick by Antares’ side but she dissuaded him. He knew he needed more training, and more practical fighting skills, but he still didn’t like the idea of not being right there. Somehow he ended up with the more technology based group, personally Sig didn’t think he was all that adept but he wasn’t a slouch either, so when he was handed a device that could disrupt any signals that might cause problems he didn’t hesitate to join the others. At least he would be of some help!

Or try to help at least.

Sailor Cepheus
Staying with the laptops

Part of her agreement with Anakeion to even be allowed to be here had been: Cepheus had to stay removed from the action, unless it was absolutely necessary. Which was a deal Cepheus was frankly pretty okay with, things all told; she wasn't interested in fighting, she didn't think she'd be very good at it, and there was an entire team dedicated to Breaking Things anyway, so ideally she wouldn't have to!

But there were some advantages she had over Anakeion, anyways, and one of them was that Cepheus actually had some idea of how technology worked on a non-surface level.

Connie, Squire of Chronos
Choice: Device

“Oh… oh... We’re supposed to be looking at computers and records? I thought we were going to, I don’t know. Oh.”

Connie wore a concerned frown as she placed her hand under her chin, her other arm crossed over her chest as she tried to process how exactly she ended up being expected to work with digital technology. She didn’t know what she was expecting, but clearly she misunderstood the request.

“Well, I think you’re all doing a great job!” she chirped with renewed enthusiasm. “Oh, I can at least help carry things,” she gasped when she realized she could help. Being a pack mule and cheerleader probably wasn’t the most useful, but it was something, right?

“Hi, hello, I’m Connie,” she waved to anyone who might bother to look her way. She was doing her best! She wanted people to know they were supported!

“Love your makeup!” she added as she waved at a strange looking Senshi (Terebellum). “Very Guardians of the Galaxy. Good choice.”

Targovishte Squire of Jupiter
Staying with the Laptops

When it came to understanding businesses, Targovishte felt absolutely in her element, but somehow she had ended up in the technology branch of all of this, and now she felt exceedingly out of her element. But, that was fine. A laptop was a laptop, and Belmont was here with her, and if things went wrong, they could always just hit the objects. She had a tougher stick, and Belmont had a tougher weapon now that they were both Squires so. All would be well.

…Hopefully.

“I’m not sure that I want to do the whole…wherever else is going on, at least with the laptops they might have programs or whatever that I’m used to…but. I really had meant to join the investigation group so that was my bad. I guess I should listen a bit more closely…”

She gave Belmont a slight, awkward grin and shrugged. “I know I can do laptops better than…whatever devices those are…do you…know what we’re supposed to be looking for or are we just…making a mess?”

Most likely not just making a mess, as there was a whole group for that purpose. Still. Still. They would do their best.

Squire Antisana of Pluto
Action:
Staying with the laptops.

He could’ve ignored it, and probably should’ve.

As with every other time Antisana had shown up at these gatherings, he was under no delusion that he had much of anything to offer in service to the assignment. Maybe it wasn’t as bad as times previous, when he’d been even weaker and more ignorant, but he was still unsure if he had any place answering some summons from a far more experienced senshi when he was just as likely to get in the way as not. He did not have the energy to do much, as it seemed so many others did.

There was not a massive group stationed on the rooftop, but even about half of them had already taken initiative and headed down toward the bank. Not something Antisana was particularly enthused about doing, himself. He would, if that was the more fiery Eleonora’s prerogative, but he wasn’t actually sure how important these types of assignments were to her. She’d been at every summons he’d been to, sometimes independently of one another…

Antisana wouldn’t ignore her wishes, for all the times she’d shown up when he needed help, but he expected that she and her sister were more likely to deliberate amongst themselves when determining a course of action. There was no need for him to be involved in that more than to just be present for whatever conclusion they came to.

Instead, he was serving as seat and table for a great mass of pudge and fluff draped over his shoulder as if the Mauvian thought he weighed little more than a rag. Antisana had met Mirosnjha only once before, but that hadn’t stopped the cat from picking him out from the group and deciding his use was best served as a kitty vantage point. Antisana held one of the laptops open in his arms, while Mirosnjha draped over him and tap tap tapped away at the keyboard.

If Antisana had been even vaguely slighter, the Mauvian would’ve slid right off of him. He’d never seen a cat so chunky or bold in his entire life…

“Would you not be more comfortable sitting on the ground?” He invited stiffly. It would certainly be easier on Antisana and would leave his hands significantly freer, but he doubted Mirosnjha cared about that, having already settled in as he had.

Mauvian Mirosnjha (Cat Form)
Action:
Staying with the laptops.

“Nnnnyah!” Miros scoffed back with a flippant little jerk of his head in refusal, flapping a paw up close to the squire’s face. “The ground is so far away, and I couldn’t see everything that’s going on! This is better, yes? Don’t you even worry about my comfort!” And he was not uncomfortable, besides! It felt like he had exactly everything he needed: stable support, a good view, his project held right up to eye level with him. What more could he ask for?

A less complaintive human, maybe. Zero wouldn’t have groused at him at all! But there was also no way he could in good conscience knowingly bring an eight-year-old to a Negaverse hub. Her fathers would never allow it, and they weren’t in attendance, themselves… Antisana would just have to do.

And he had friends. Two cute senshi that Miros couldn’t help but keep peeking around Antisana to stare at, just waiting for them to compliment him (because he was a very handsome kitty and very friendly and he deserved it!). His tail swayed, waiting, waiting, waiting…

Next time.

He resumed work on the laptop.

As far as Mauvians went, he was on the lower end of technological ability, and he’d expected to see more Guardian support among the ranks stationed on the rooftop, but he seemed to be the only cat in attendance, so far, so he had to be sure to do his best to provide something! He was probably better equipped for it than most of these humans, anyway.

Oh, but he definitely shouldn’t run down with the group splitting off to head into the bank. Was that not where the enemy would be? What use would a resplendent Mauvian be down there, besides being underfoot where he wasn’t wanted and a target if something went wrong? Better to try and be safe, if he could. …’Safe’ because he didn’t know how likely that was so close to the bank, no matter what he chose to do.

Super Sailor Eleonora
Action: Staying with the laptops
Super Sailor Alcor
Action: Device

Much like all the other times they had answered a call for help, Alcor stood idly by simply observing the group's dynamic and overall mood. Gauging the power levels of those who had gathered and assessed the overall surroundings in the event of another ambush like the one that happened on the hill shortly after the Vanguard had arrived.

“I don’t like this,” So many signatures, and yet only one mauvian among them. This did not bode well for any of them if any Negaverse agent caught a whiff of their gathering then this whole operation would go sideways in the blink of an eye.

“You never do…” Even with more strength as a Super Senshi, Alcor never felt confident in these sorts of missions; other than being confident that they would fail or be found out.

Eleonora’s eyes followed her sisters’ gaze to where the large grey mauvian and Antisana looked to be having some sort of quiet argument. It was endearing to see that Anti’s circle of friends had grown just a bit, even if he seemed annoyed by having to hold the Guardian Cat, she knew that his ability to hide signatures would keep the Squire Safe. “So how do you want to go about this?”

“Normally I’d advise against splitting up but given that it seems the group is fairly even I think it would be safer if you keep an eye here with the laptops while I go down with the device.” Alcor removed one of her earrings and passed it to her twin. “I’m not keen on keeping an open line of communication going with phones so wear this. You be the eyes and ears up here and let me know if something happens and I’ll do the same for you.”

Uneasy by the suggestion, Eleonora shifted her weight to her other foot. “Are you sure that’s wise?” Splitting up never ended well for them.

“I don’t think it was wise coming here in the first place. As senshi we’re already painted as terrorists or vigilantes in the eyes of the media. This attack will only emphasize the truth of those statements.” Be it as it may they were here now and it was too late to turn back without risking getting caught and sabotaging this whole operation.

“I guess,” She fit the silver cuff around the edge of her ear then reached for Alcor’s hand to give it a reassuring squeeze. “Be safe, please.”

“Don’t worry, I will.” Alcor turned then towards the group of volunteers that were gathering devices and with only slight hesitation she dropped off the rooftop with them.

For a fleeting moment, Eleonora felt alone. This being the first time her sister had willingly parted ways, it felt unreal and yet in a small sense… freeing. A fleeting thread of worry filtered through the earring but Ele quickly shut it off lest it become too distracting for Alcor to accomplish her task below.

“We’ll get through this. It’ll be fine.” She whispered more so for her own piece of mind before turning on her heel and joining Antisana and his mauvian friend.

“Hey,” worry faded into a friendly smile upon her approach. “How goes the progress?”

Squire Amsvartnir of Cosmos
Action: staying with the laptops

Amsvartnir didn't know anyone here, but that didn't mean much. They were all here to disrupt some big deal of the Negaverse, and that was all that mattered.

He sat down next to a senshi (Hydor, who seemed like the type to act too cool to do anything. He liked that. Those types tended to have a good heart. Of course, pigeonholeing someone because of some silly high school kind of stereotypes wasn't... great... but still! He ultimately seemed like the kind of guy to be good friends with, so.

"Ready for this? Pretty big mission, huh?" he said, trying to start conversation.

Corporal Vaylin of the Vanguard of Velencya
Action: Staying with the laptops

Vaylin was happy to help with this operation when she heard about it from Nectaris. She hoped aiding the forces of Order like this would earn her some good will from them and she might be able to learn about their connections to their homeworlds and wonders. Plus this was a good chance to see up close how a Negaverse operation functioned since unlike many her peers she had never worked along side the forces of chaos. She wondered how different their methods of energy draining was, she knew it was more violent and could even kill its victims unlike her own draining but she didn't know the exact mechanics.

But that could wait till later right now she had been tasked with helping with technical aspects of the investigation. In her experience human technology was pretty primitive and easy to hack into compared to her people's technology. So she sat at one of the provided laptops digging through the bank's files for information that would could aid them in there mission here.
