Name: Chantara Stage: 2 - Sacred Heart route Race: Elidae Gender: Female Base Traits: Mysterious, Aloof, Egotistical Personality: Chantara is an older soul who likes to keep to herself. While others consider her to be a bit mysterious with her isolated way of life, her strange moonlit rituals being whispered about amongst the sisters the Elidae sees nothing wrong with how she prefers being more active in the later hours than interacting with others during the day. In fact, she is very aloof and holds herself in high regards and adores her differences which is why Chantara opted to live away from the rest despite losing her mother at an early age. She's learned to be capable on her own, keeping up with her mother's practices to worship the mother trees and their ancestors in her family's own way under the light of the moon and she also has an extensive knowledge of herbal remedies to help any sisters in need. Despite everything no one has ever seen her show weakness as the girl keeps her emotions concealed and always carries on in a calm and collected manner. It may make her appear slightly arrogant but Chantara simply faces any challengers in the same manner, doing her best to walk over them without even seeming bothered by anything said or done around her.
She's softened her tone a bit after bonding with other Elidae though she'll still keep her attitude towards those who question her. She's still sticking to the outskirts of the community but always offering aid to those who come and seek her. History: Idris was an Elaria born to a pair of Extremist Alkidike mothers who wanted nothing to do with any of their Sisters left behind on the mainland. They were dedicated in their study of herbs, both deadly and helpful, and adored how the world looked when bathed in moonlight. Because a variety of herbs were best gathered at night the family had a tradition of being more active during the later hours of the day, something which only grew when they realized that they truly loved how Aisha and the moon seemingly glowed together during the darker hours of night. Over the generations it become more and more common for the daughters to be raised under moonlight more so than sunlight and the family became more reclusive, focused solely on their studies of herbology and how they could best help their Sisters out with this knowledge. Of course this distanced the family a bit more from the rest and so rumors quickly spread about how this particular family had strange habits, their moonlight rituals being whispered about along with so many secrets that kept others wary of them. (Mostly though stories were simply gossip and tales told in boredom by young prentices with creative minds while the family simply wanted to retain their knowledge within their bloodline and also wanted to keep the more curious from accidentally invading their space and eating a plant which would have caused harm rather than good. Whoops. At one point a few prentices even scared younglings by telling them that this family lived on the blood of others or something strange like that!) It was no surprise, however, that like so many other families this particular family split apart when the war with earthlings began and surviving Sisters were banished to Yael for their part in helping the extremists. It was here that Idris was born and raised to follow those same traditions by her own mother before losing her. Despite being against hybrids and earthlings, Idris' mother truly never recovered from being banished from Chibale which made many believe she died to heartbreak despite her daughter's best efforts to comfort her. Idris could never truly get over the loss of her mother which prompted her to leave Zinris when given the chance. The new island was a new chance, a fresh start at something more. It was here that she set up a remote hut along the southern edge of the village where she could easily access deeper parts of the jungle for rare plants, studying them and trying to find out what all this foreign landscape had to offer her studies. While she was researching Idris was also determined to pray for a bloom as she wanted to pass down the family's traditions and was delighted when the mystics presented her with her own daughter. She named her daughter Chantara because she imagined the bloom when staring at a pool of water under the moonlight, the shimmering image giving her hope and inspiring her to name her future daughter accordingly. Chantara was quickly introduced to her mother's studies, the girl surprisingly quick at learning despite her more petite nature that made her appear physically weaker than others her age. That was why Chanatara worked harder to be more mentally capable since she lacked in physical assets, the girl memorizing everything that Idris taught her over their years together. The pair had a cool relationship, never being overly affectionate which made Chantara a bit more distant emotionally from other younglings who played together while she slept during the morning hours and went straight to studying in the evenings. Idris was a good mother though who did her best to raise Chantara as someone prepared to take on the world and while she did not voice her opinions on outsiders often the girl quickly picked up Aishan pride. Her mother's praises came more often than any hugs and Chantara understood she had to work in order to earn rewards. She did her best to study everything and even started to train with weapons to try and catch up to other prentices who were stronger than her. While she will always be petite she is growing stronger by the day and she refuses to back down, her expression always cool and distant while a fire burns brightly in her heart. Others may not get to see it but there is a spark of something within Chantara and perhaps one day she will get ruffled enough to unleash it but for now the prentice is calm and collected just as her mother taught her to be. One cannot lose their temper as that could lead to dangerous situations, after all, and that is far too risky when working with dangerous herbs and the like.
Even when faced with her mother's recent passing, Chantara simply said her rites and calmly watched her mother return to the great tree before retreating back to the hut they shared together. She was alone, isolated completely for a week before anyone saw her again and even Chantara's memories of those days are blurry at best. She focused solely on her studies, the ache in her chest fading day after day of reading over herbology and other lore that was left behind in the tomes written by her mother and their ancestors. Still, Chantara refused to allow others to see her tears since she knew that would only shame her mother's spirit and Chantara is determined to never allow any accidents to happen to her. What happened to her mother was a tragedy, a late night accident in the deep jungle while gathering herbs, and while Chantara will probably never talk about it there is a scar deep within her spirit which makes her more wary of the unknown. For now she is focused on keeping up with her studies while surviving on her own outside of the village, only going to others when absolutely necessary. Her mother had distant family back in Chibale (those few who did not side with the Extremists) and perhaps one day Chantara will venture that way but for now she is content in the little hut that she once shared with Idris.

♦ Story so far ♦
After losing her mother in an accident, Chantara is mostly living on her own at the very edge of the village. While she does offer help to Sisters, the girl is more reclusive and often more alert in the later hours of the evening as she follows her mother's footsteps in tending to rare and dangerous herbs which are mostly found in the darker hours of night.

♦ Sacred Heart ♦
One would think that Toxis would be the one to get teased about her name. Or was it just Chantara who was so accustomed to dealing with toxic plants that her mind went ahead and associated poison with the older archer who was walking amongst the younger apprentices, lecturing them about training and the serious path that they would endure as Aishan warriors? It probably was only her because all the other Elidae seemed to be completely infatuated with the older warrior with her dark blue locks twisting behind her like long vines, the strands somehow moving like they had a life of their own opposite of the warrior whenever she paced back and forth in the small clearing. Her markings even seemed like snakes which amused Chantara who liked to watch the swirling markings just to make certain that they wouldn’t be jumping off of Toxis to strike at her. Some of the girls whispered about wanting to pick up the bow so that they could have personal training with Toxis while Chantara just wanted to pick up any weapon and leave for the day. Was it strange that she didn’t find the other Elidae dreamy like the rest? Apparently she was a hunting prodigy who had picked up the bow since being a youngling and never missed a shot. How amazing….meanwhile the rest of the group were startled to see Chantara coming out from the shadows, the Elidae silent as introductions were made. There were six of them this time, including Chantara, and she tried to at least pick up on the names while the instructor listened. The first to speak was Areto, a taller girl who had her hair twisted up so that it wouldn’t be in her face. She seemed less inclined to want to jump Toxis, so to speak, with her casual attire of woven cloth that had Aishan patterns stitched across. It was a simple enough look with the shorter top and the leggings for comfortable movement, something that they would need while training for the day. No bracelets, no large necklaces or even anklets, just a basic pair of shell earrings that Areto seemed especially fond of. Then there was Dali who was the complete opposite with her braided hair covered in shells and pearls, her body covered in colorful flowing material that was slit at the sides for somewhat better movement and even more pearls covered her wrists and neck. She was the one who was sitting closest to Toxis and seemed to lean in with each and every word to the point that Chantara was surprised she didn’t stumble over into their mentor’s lap. Was this a fighting exercise to pick a weapon going forward or was this a companion search? She had heard about some of the Elidae going out on what others considered group outings to try and find potential love matches within the groups, but Chantara wanted nothing to do with that. It was already a hassle enough to be awake this early in the day, the very thought nearly bringing a yawn to her lips. Of course she tried to stifle the action but Toxis had already caught sight of her and was raising a brow. “Chantara, correct? Is this meeting boring you?” Laodoke, Marpe and Doris (the other three Elidae in the group who were also leaning a bit too close towards Toxis for Chantara’s comfort) also turned towards her once Toxis pointed her out and Chantara just wanted to melt back into the shadows behind her. Why did she have to pinpoint a yawn? It was just a simple action! Ugh, little things like these were why she truly despised socializing…dammit. Now she had to actually speak up and explain herself? Chantara glanced around but it appeared none of the other Elidae even wanted to try speaking up for her. Why would she? She was the oddball, the one that the other apprentices hoped weren’t in their weapon choosing sessions. These five were the unlucky ones who had the bloodsucker within their midst, surprising as it was to see that she didn’t flinch at the direct sunlight touching her skin for this particular training.
“No.” Chantara finally replied, her gaze barely flinching as she met Toxis’ gaze boldly. “My body just isn’t accustomed to these hours. It’s hard to gather the proper herbs for medicine mid-afternoon, I much prefer gathering early morning or late evening so I sleep in between.” It was an honest answer and one that seemingly out Toxis back a bit as she hadn’t expected an actual explanation but rather was probably seeking a flustered Elidae’s apology. “I’ll do my best to refrain from yawning, but it would be ideal if we could move forward while I’m mostly aware.”
“I see.” Toxis simply nodded before dismissing Chantara’s commentary, opting not to pursue trying to embarrass the other Elidae, and unfolding a mat of weapons. “As you know we have various weapons and fighting styles within our culture. However, there are basic weapons that most Aishans learn and specialize in. I have brought a pair of dual blades, a spear, a staff and of course a bow with arrows for you to look over. Does anyone have a certain idea of what they are more inclined towards learning?” Of course most of the girls went towards the bow and arrow, eager for a chance at private lessons, while only Areto and Chantara took their time looking over the options.
“Is that really it?” Chantara tilted her head. “I know that the sacred heart is my path, but as for the weapon there is flexibility?” She wasn’t as strong as the others as much as she hated to admit it and ever since her mother’s passing had been holding gardening tools more than anything else.
“What about a spear?” Mused Areto next to her. “I think that’s the one for me.” The other Elidae’s soft voice surprised Chantara and she nearly dropped the dual blade that she had been pondering. Areto was speaking to her? Why? Now that was unexpected!
“A spear, huh?” Chantara reached out for one of the ones laying there, her fingers brushing lightly against the other girl’s. Surprisingly Areto didn’t seem to flinch at her touch and Chantara hesitated with surprise. Most Elidae would run away from her, afraid that even a simple touch could somehow make them her target for something like sucking their blood or haunting their dreams. It was all nonsense but Chantara had never taken the time to try to deter others from rumors, not when it kept them away from her hut and allowed her plenty of peace and quiet. Plus, the last time someone had tried to invade her privacy they had accidentally wandered into a patch of toxic plants and the hallucinations they had afterwards probably were what really started the recent rumors about her doing strange magic in the darkness of night. Was it Chantara’s fault that they inhaled some noxious fumes and were delusional? Not really, but the Elders didn’t seem to think it was the other Elidaes fault and advised that Chantara be on her best behavior. It was what led to her participating in lessons again despite her mother’s passing, the girl being forced to attend at least once a month after she chose her weapon and picked a path to specialize in. Hence, why she was here today to pick a weapon even if nothing truly appealed to her. “I feel more comfortable with my scythe.” She admitted with a small smile towards Areto who was watching Chantara as she picked up the spear and twisted it around. It wasn’t as if she couldn’t handle a spear but the weight and balance was slightly different from her scythe with its curved metal blade that sliced through any weeds standing in her way.
“A scythe?” Areto didn’t even get to respond since Toxis had approached the pair and was listening. “I suppose that’s not a horrible idea.” Mused the older Elidae as she watched Chantara place the spear back down. “You seem more comfortable with that than the dual blades and your archery display last week was acceptable but not outstanding.” Chantara felt the gaze of the others on her as Toxis spoke with her. As if she had asked for special attention! How had she even known that Toxis was watching her so closely to pick up on her fighting preferences like that? Yes, the bow and arrows were acceptable for hunting but fighting with them in an actual battle with another Aishan or even an Earthling or Kahi was not her thing at all. Dual blades were okay, but once again it was best for Chantara to keep others at bay because of her slender stature that would make it harder to reach with the blades. She could easily be swung aside by a bulkier fighter unless her speed and accuracy were lethal, something that was hard to achieve when one was accustomed to the darkness of night and not fighting in the light of day. Even at night her movements had to be more calculated to accommodate for the lack of vision in the darkness, it wasn’t as if her antennae were perfect sonars like what the bats had when they swooped across the isle at night hunting insects. She could sense things, but needed time to figure out how to react to something that those dancing with dual blades seemed to never do as they darted in and out of fights. If she could just slice at them with her scythe, well that would be a more comfortable option for her. The blade was well balanced, the weight of it lighter than a spear and the length was perfect for someone like her who didn’t want anyone to get close during a fight. But it was just a gardening tool, no? Chantara frowned as she looked at Toxis. Was she trying to just mess with her? Had pointing out her yawning in the middle of a lecture not been enough embarrassment? Chantara despised being put on the spot and felt so awkward every time. It was hard to not run away! She didn’t want to be exiled and lose her hut though so she had to attend these classes so that she could somewhat fit in with the rest of the community. Not that the Elders would actually exile her, but in Chantara’s mind it sometimes felt like she could be with how many avoided her! Rumors of taking Elidae blood, of doing rituals not concerning the mother trees, of growing poisons and the like truly weren’t doing her any good. Even if she did perform moon rituals…well she wasn’t a blood sucker! Not that Chantara could say that outloud either because those rituals would be seen as strange…her mother and her mothers had passed down those rituals since forever ago. Her ancestors had always provided rare and medical herbs to the Aishans, they just required a bit of strangeness that separated Chantara and her family from the rest. She refused to share such secrets as well since they had been entrusted to her and so the girl continued to be ostracized from her Sisters. Some came to her late in the evenings, under the cover of darkness, to ask for aid but never in the daylight or where others would see them. Chantara had accepted that over the years, even if it felt lonely it was better than risking someone getting injured by getting too close to her and her dangerous plants. Her thoughts trailed off though as Toxis spoke again. “Chantara? Are you listening?”
“Ah.” Chantara opened her mouth, her expression shifting warily as she glanced around the group and then back towards Toxis. “If you think a scythe is feasible then I would be willing to try.”
“A scythe?!” Dali snickered. “Do you really think a farming tool would work as a warrior’s weapon?” She asked while holding up her bow and arrow. “I would even think that a basic staff would be more formidable looking. How would you even fight with a scythe? Don’t you just harvest crops with one?” The Elidae shook her head in disdain over Chantara’s actual interest in the idea. “Toxis is just joking, right?”
“I…” Chantara began, embarrassment making her cheeks warm.
“I was not.” Toxis interrupted with a firm voice and a fierce glance around the group. “A scythe can be utilized as a weapon, I heard of an Alkidike warrior who was a master in battle and opted to use one because the blade better fit her style.” Toxis crossed her arms as if daring anyone else to defy her. “If Chantara is more skilled with a scythe then I will fully support it. The rest of you have chosen your weapons and should go practice now. I’ll be discussing this further with Chantara.” When none of the girls moved, most of them in shock that Toxis would do such a thing, the Elidae nodded her head once more. “Go.” And just like that they were scurrying off to go practice with whatever weapon they could grab. It was far better to disappear in the moment than risk the wrath of the battle prodigy after all. “Now where was I? Do you have a scythe back home, Chantara?”
“I do.” Chantara frowned at the question. “Do you want me to bring it here next time?” Was this actually happening? Was Toxis giving her extra attention and why? Surely it had to be a trap, right? Chantara truly couldn’t seem to figure it out.
“No, I’ll go with you.” Toxis nodded towards another mentor who was approaching them. “Clete, take care of the younger ones? They need help with their weapons while I go and help Chantara. She’s got something special that I’m interested in.” Clete paused, the Elidae frowning with confusion as she looked between her fellow mentor and Chantara. Eventually though she just nodded and Toxis patted her on the shoulder in appreciation. “Thanks.” It was hard to ignore the glares from the others as Toxis gestured for Chantara to follow along. “Your hut is towards the cove along the southern border, correct?”
“Ah, yeah.” Chantara frowned even more as she followed along. What was even happening? Once they were out of sight and earshot of the group, the teen stopped and reached out to tug at Toxis. “You can stop now. What are you doing?” She asked quietly. “I don’t need special treatment and if this was about yawning earlier then the punishment is enough.” She truly did not like being spotted out and this was making things even worse! Why couldn’t she just go back and tend to her herbs and gather other plants for potions and the like without anyone bothering her? Ugh, this was so frustrating. Dealing with that Kahi teen in the pouring rain that last time had made more sense than this! And she hadn’t even understood the language he was using at the time! Chantara realized that her breathing had increased in pace, the rapid beating of her heart marking a rare attack where she felt too overwhelmed to move. It had been a while since an attack hit, but sometimes it would strike her especially when she thought of her mother whose death had started such attacks. Sometimes as much as Chantara hated to say it the loneliness did consume her and she would simply sit in the darkness of her hut and let her feelings loose, despair just making her cry and scream throughout the entire night until she simply fell asleep.
“Breathe.” The quiet voice of the other Elidae broke through the panic, Toxis reaching out to hold onto Chantara’s shoulders for support. “I’m interested in you, Chantara. I didn't mean to upset you and was only teasing about the yawn earlier. You helped one of my younger siblings out with a medicine a few months back and I found myself curious about you. If you prefer to use a scythe then I want to make it happen, to pay you back for your help earlier this year. Her cough was so nasty that we were terrified it would get worse but you helped her where other healers didn’t.” Toxis smiled warmly. “I’m sorry if I didn’t say that openly earlier. I was afraid of putting even more attention on you.”
“I see.” Chantara slowly managed, taking deep breaths as she tried to gather herself. This was fine. Toxis was not out to make her life hell, she was actually just trying to help as a favor. Chantara nodded as she reasoned with it and eventually she managed to calm her racing heart enough so that she could move without shaking. “Then I appreciate it. I would truly like to be a sacred heart and using a scythe would be perfect.”
“Good.” Toxis smiled towards Chantara. “If this works then you should let me mentor you more often, I can even make some evening sessions for you so that you can train more comfortably.” She nodded, following Chantara along without rushing her as they took the walk at a slower pace. “That way you don’t have to worry about the others bothering you and you can learn at a similar speed as the others.”
Chantara found herself completely baffled by the kindness of Toxis. Had she misjudged her? It appeared so. Chantara smiled though as she continued guiding the way back to her hut. “Thank you, I appreciate that.” It was rare for her to give thanks, but in this situation she felt like Toxis truly deserved it. Maybe once she learned more basic fighting and got an idea of how a scythe could work as a weapon she would ask the blacksmith to customize one specifically for fighting. It would be an interesting and fun weapon to use, that was for certain. And being a sacred heart in the future would be fulfilling both her and her mother’s dream as Chantara continued the family’s legacy of sacred hearts who dabbled in a bit of herbalism as well.
