Being left all alone in a strange city with little money to support herself hasn't put much of a damper on that. If anything, it made her stronger. She was not a worthless being who could be tossed to the side when someone grew bored of her. There was more to her than how she looks. She would not be taken advantage of, again, and she would reach the heights in her career that she knew she deserved to be at. Even if that means she has to step on a few others in the process. She is not here to make friends, simple to earn what she feels she has a right to after what she's been through. Compassion for others is a thing she still needs to learn, having spent most of her youth before now thinking mostly of herself and enjoying all the attention from everyone else.
All this, of course, doesn't always make her an easy one to deal with and hasn't won her any friends. Not that Elka trusts anyone around her, not anymore. The fact that someone else could be trying to trick her is always in the back of her mind and she remains ever vigilant when interacting with anyone she doesn't know very well, accessing them and keeping most of herself behind thick walls. Elka wants others to see only what she wants them to see.

Up to Prentice Elka had been born to loving parents in Zena. By all records, she had a normal childhood, growing up with discipline and encouraged to follow her heart. And she seemed to thrive on this, never wanting more or less than what her parents gave her. Until she started the process of maturing into a woman. Always having been known to be a beautiful child, it was no surprise that she was also beginning to transform into a beautiful woman. And she knew it. As her body began the changes, so did her mind to follow. Her beauty became known to her, too, as her peers started to notice her more. Elka quickly took to this attention, cultivating these new feelings inside her that came with it.
Her parents, being loving parents, were none too thrilled with her. She was far too young to be behaving like this. They had been trying to raise her as a proper young lady, one who didn't try to draw attention to herself as much as Elka was, but instead conducted herself with grace and manners.
Than she met a boy and, as young first love went, fell hard. He was part of a group of traveling performers stopping for a few months. He was an acrobatic, doing routines for people's entertainment and balancing on high wires above the crowd. He told her he couldn't remember his parents, that he'd run away from an orphanage when he was a boy to join the group when they were in his town performing.
Every moment that they could spare, they were together. Her parents weren't too happy with her spending time with him, preferring she make a match out of a local boy they had their eyes on. One that could help rise the family's status. But Elka didn't want this. How could she, when she'd promised her heart to another? Someone she knew and who she knew also cared for her. So when the group was preparing to leave, she left with them, sneaking away in the dead of night.
For a year, she remained with them, traveling around Tendaji. At first, what she'd done was exciting. She'd disobeyed her parents and went on a grand adventure with a boy. However, a lady used to fancier surroundings and being in the spotlight can only last so long helping with the general care of the wagons, animals, and workers. She demanded to be taken back home, but the workers, tired of her general attitude, refused. They had plans on going more south this time, in the opposite direction of her home. She didn't like that. She kicked up a fuss until, on the day the group was set to leave, the owner approached her with an order to go into town and get something that they forgot to. Not seeing the trap, Elka did as instructed. When she returned to the spot, the group was gone, leaving her alone in a strange land. A note on the ground told her of an inn in need of a serving girl that would provide her with a room in the back to stay in. With nothing else going for her, she took the job.
Prentice Elka's life in Neued proved to be mostly uneventful. She worked and she tried her best to scrap up money, while also making sure to treat herself every now and than to push back as much as she could the crushing boredom that was working a tedious job. Her room was small. The bathwater was often lukewarm from sharing it with the other staff who also used the inn as a boarding house. The customers were loud. She came to regret more and more her impulsive nature to take off after a boy. Even if he had been nice.
What a surprise it was to her when that boy appeared in the streets one day. It had been years since Elka had seen Kayde. She thought the years had diminished how she felt, but unfortunately they had not. She still cared for him, longed to feel his arms again. She approached him and, instead of throwing her arms around his neck, she punched him in the stomach. Seeing his face had also brought back all the anger she had been feeling at being abandoned here, so far from home and everything she knew. He took it, understanding he deserved it. He made promises to make it up to her, but she refused to believe him. Refused to see him.
No matter how much she still wanted to see him.
Rogue With dancing book in hand, Elka worked hard to change her future. After seeing a dancer perform at her workplace, she had decided this was the path she would take to get her old life back. If only she could save enough money without spending so much of it on fancy clothes and accessories.
There was also the problem of Kayde and his trope of entertainers still camped just outside the city. She was aware of the fact that the object of her whirlwind romance so many years ago was still so close to her, but she tried to ignore its call. She had no one to teach her dance and no money to afford lessons, so she had to do her best to self-teach herself with use of the book. The performer had told her she was self-taught, so clearly it wasn't impossible.
It was when one got distracted.
During one private practice session, she was interrupted by Kayde, who remained persistent to get back into her good graces. She once more tried to ignore him, but time and his own stubbornness eventually wore her down. She accepted him back in her life, especially after she witnessed the trope he had been working and traveling with leave while he remained behind, saying he couldn't imagine leaving her a second time. They soon began to hatch a plan to save up money together to leave Jauhar, for a place they felt would suit them better: Matori.

Dancer Now on the road to Matori, Elka couldn't believe how far her life had taken her. When before she thought she'd remain in Zena for the rest of her life, as some rich Zenan's wife, where the most exciting part of her day might be deciding what to wear to the next party they would be invited to. She never expected she'd actually be on the road so much, least of all on the road to a semi-familiar place she hoped to live for the rest of her life with the only man she could ever imagine loving in her entire lifetime.
Matori was a place her family enjoyed visiting. Despite this, she wasn't worried about running into her family. She and Kayde had chosen to settle in a small house along the beach on the opposite of the country where her family had their vacation home. So it came as a complete surprise, both a happy and briefly terrifying one, when she was discovered one day in the town by her eldest brother, Deric. After he reassured her the family still had the same manor on the other side, they reconnecting, telling each other about everything the other missed in all the time apart. Deric had a business in the area and would travel down from time to time, spending time with his sister and her man.
Life was finally turning out for the better. No more worrying over her expenses or if today would be the day someone lost their patience with her and she'd be abandoned on the streets once more. She had a stable blossoming career that she actually enjoyed. The house might be small and a little run-down, but Elka found she didn't care as much as she would have in her younger years. So long as she had Kayde in her life, she didn't care what her life looked like. And when she thought things couldn't get any better, he proposed one night, offering her a silver ring made from material he had found while still living in Jauhar. They were married soon afterwards by a single man with Deric as the only witness.
Not long after, Elka discovered she was with child. Though they hadn't been trying very hard to prevent it, it was still a surprise to both of them, but a happy surprise nonetheless. They were more than thrilled to welcome to their small family a son and daughter. Doing so came with more worries, as children tend to. Their small house was suitable for a couple, not for a growing family. With only two rooms, the twins were forced to share. This could only last for so long as they grew up. They would require their own space and privacy. Perhaps this was the excuse Deric needed to make a more permanent home for himself when he was staying in Matori. Maybe it was coincidence. Whichever it was, the Zenan offered part of a manor he had been building nearby to his sister and her family. She would still have to furnish her side of it, but she would be given control over the estate as the mistress of the house. Thinking Kayde would be overjoyed at this turn of luck they needed, she told him one day out of the blue, the first moment that she saw him. Kayde was not happy. For the first time in all the years she knew him, Elka witnessed Kayde's anger. For an entire week, he wouldn't sleep in the same room as her. Wouldn't sit by her on the couch as was their habit in the evenings. Wouldn't even look at her. She felt like her marriage was coming to an end, over something she didn't understand. It took Elenora and Elias, on separate occasions, running away and shouting at them to snap the Leaf man out of his mood. He finally apologized for his behavior, saying how inadequate as a provider it made him feel to have such a large gift bestowed on them. As much as he agreed with her that they needed a larger place, he thought they could do it on their own in due time. Their dancing career had been picking up. They were able to afford more things. In the end, the family moved into the large manor. He'd had to admit they needed help after all.

Not only has she learned how to clean and manage her own house, but she reconnected with her older brother, who had been traveling to Matori in order to open another branch of the family business. It was an emotional and surprising reunion. Her family in Zena had thought her surely dead after all this time. He promised to keep her secret safe that she was perfectly well. He even stood in as witness for her very simple wedding to Kayde and than sponsored her so they could both attend the local dancing school. Lessons were, however, soon put on hold when she discovered she was pregnant, resuming soon after the birth of her son and daughter so that she may achieve her dreams of stardom. A snag came into her perfect life when the kids were nearing teenagers. Her brother had decided to build a manor house near the beach, inviting his sister's family to live in one wing of it with him. Kayde didn't take kindly to this, believing it was disrespectful to all the work they had put into it and started a week-long fight over it, where he would barely even talk to her without anger. She believed her marriage was coming to an end. It was only with the intervention of their son breaking down did the two see what their fight was doing. They reconciled over it, soon moving into the manor.
