- Days are getting longer. Even in the depths of the woods, warmth is touching the lands. There is the sound of life in the air.
Spring has come.
This is usually a time of relief for the pack. In the winter they tighten their belts, so to speak, and this winter has been no exception. The pack hadn't recovered its number from the plague that nearly struck it down five generations past, but even with its dwindled numbers prey seemed hard to come by in the winter. Still, the pack chose to stick with tradition and bunkered down in their ancestral home for the winter, like a great beast settling in for hibernation. And while they were at rest, something stirred…
Near the end of the winter, Glory made the decision to allow some crews to venture farther from the pack lands than usual in search of prey. Of the crew, only one returned. Eyes in the Dark indeed gave reports of prey herds on the move within a reasonable distance. This, however, wasn't the main concern of her report.
While away, the warrior explains, the captain came to the crew with news. She explains that he had come across stories of an opening in the world to a mystical place. Creatures from this world were heard to travel through it, and creatures from the other world were heard to travel back. The captain had spoken of tales of magic. Tales of strange, brightly colored creatures that now walked this world.
The spirits had returned.
Naturally, the crew was uneasy with stories of magic. Of strange creatures. The nature of the pack made this information sit uneasily in their stomachs. Still, when the captain urged his crew to chase down these stories, they followed. All but one.
Eyes in the Dark made her report to the alpha, who in turn had spoken to the council. The details of Eyes' travels hadn't been revealed to the pack. Not until now.
There was argument among the council members. Some strongly believed that they should follow rumors of the spirits immediately and stay true to their mission. Others countered that they had neither the numbers nor the strength or resources to pursue such a task. Now, as spring thaws the cold of winter, Glory comes to the pack with the verdict:
The pack would, following tradition, leave their home for the Spring migration. Their first priority would be to find and follow herds to adequately sustain them. Second, they would actively try to recruit and boost their numbers. Only then would they begin to hunt down information on these new reports of spirits.
what this means
- The pack is now actively recruiting. While the pack is usually rather xenophobic in nature, they will be forced to be more open to rogues.
The pack is also leaving their lands for the spring, and finding food is the first priority! See the next post for the details on the Spring event.
Pack members are now knowledgeable on what the leadership has learned about The Veil. This information is very limited, as wolves that were members of the pack through the winter would not have left far enough to gather information. How they feel and react to this news and the leadership's subsequent decision is up to you! Note, though, that actions disobeying the plan of the alpha and the council will be frowned upon.
what to expect
- Expect the dueling, leveling, and stat system to be implemented sometime before the end of the month! Original members that 'join' the pack before the system is implemented will get a stat boost.
who can participate
- All pack members, old and newly recruited, may participate in the scouting event and will be eligible for the IC 'prizes'
Non-pack members may participate with pack members, but will not be eligible for the IC 'prizes' unless they join. If you have a rogue wolf seeking to RP and participate, please look over the pack description and note if your character might face discrimination by the pack due to their coloration. Ethereals and ethereal-born wolves are always hunted and will likely be hunted, but other wolves (including dyed wolves) are welcome to participate as the pack is in great need of members and assistance and they are likely to be lax with their discrimination.
