On the way back to the boundaries surrounding The Deep, Rink kept his eyes peeled for anything that he might find on the way back. He was hoping for one last small sliver of evidence linking anything that could be found around the area. He was not doing to great on this search of the surrounding area and feeling more and more defeated, he was hoping his sister would venture out with him. With all the other pack wolves searching the surrounding area, he figured it would be nice to go a bit further from the land they called home to find prey, rogues, or even spirits.
Trying to become the greatest was starting to get cumbersome, but knowing that his sister would be with him on this journey made him happy. They both were striving to be the best they could be and even though it was not a competition between them, but sometimes, for Rink's sake, it became so.
He wanted to ensure they both became legends in the pack, ones that never died, and were passed on for generations and if he could help her out, he would. Finally reaching where he had thought he had seen her last, he scanned around the faces of the wolves, looking for her 'ever-welcoming' smile.

She took a break from her early morning search to feed and find water - just a light snack, a few draughts from the river. She didn't want to be encumbered on her way back into the forest, even though she wasn't going to be chasing. Staying light on her feet rather than gluttonously slow was practical, after all. She didn't want her mind drifting into a haze.
As she walked, she caught her brother's scent, paused, and changed trajectory to cross paths with him. All of the pack was intent on Glory's mandate; she didn't have to ask why he was out and about and simply cut to the chase.
"Turn around. I was on a good trail earlier." Rip trotted past him with an air of superiority; he clearly hadn't had the same luck if his posture said anything.

Hearing his sister, he was excited that she had found a good path earlier. She was a multi-talented direwolf and he was proud to be able to call her his sister. "You had better luck than I did, obviously." Trailing behind her, she kept an eye out. Maybe hunting and searching was not his thing. He was better at fighting others and being able to see those that were already in front of him. Be able to think ahead three steps from his opponent, still needed an opponent. It was hard for him to swallow his pride and admitted that tracking was not his specialty. At least he knew, once he got into his group of 6, he needed to think up with a good tracker.
"Well, what did you find earlier?"

"Hoof prints," she answered, oozing sarcasm. "What else? At least your intuition is better than your actual senses." Though biting commentary was nothing new from Ripples of Time: she earned her name with every conversation, always digging away at other wolves. For what reason, only she knew.
"Nobody saw you roaming around aimlessly, right?" Rip went on, automatically taking point as they wound through the trees. She had several guesses where the herd might be at this point, and it was a matter of fanning out and discerning if any of her hypotheses were true. "One of us needs to be the first to spot the herd, not looking the fool."

"You found hoofprints, and you acting like you the top tracker of the pack." As much as he loved his sister, sometimes her witty tone tended to rub him the wrong way and he loved to throw it right back at her. As he followed her, twisting and winding through the trees, looking back and forth for any of these prints that she had found earlier.
"Tracking is not a strategic play...sister." He barked back at her, ensuring that she sees his witty, snarky smile that spread across his muzzle. While she might be more of a bark, he was a bit more of a bite. She was great with her words, he could openly admit that, yet he believed he was better at fighting.
Becoming the captain was a dream of his, one he hoped he would achieve quickly.

She began to treat him like a slow child. "What happens when you find tracks?" Beat. "That's right: you usually find a scent attached to them. Soon you'll learn how to tell if a scent or track is old as well." Honestly, did she have to spell everything out for him?
Maybe.
Rink was spared a minute as Rip plunged through a thicket, intent on what she thought was a clue. And yet, nothing continued to show up. Shaking out the frozen leaves, she returned with half-lidded eyes. "I will pretend you did not just say the ability to plan out a crew's placement to ensure prey is captured and killed without harming those under your command wasn't strategic planning," she drawled. "Surely only novices with cotton for brains would say such a thing, not captains to be."

"A prey, dear sister, do you see one yet.." He brushed past her, still looking through for any signs of anything that was related to The Deep, but it appeared that they both were being relentless on their attacks to each other that they both could not find anything around the area. "All these fighting and nit-picking and we still can't find anything."
Pacing forward he kept his nose low and eyes scanning for anything. "Let's head further away from the pack, the woods surrounding are covered in the scent of packmates." He decided to drop any witty comebacks. It had appeared that them badgering each other was bad karma, and he would rather work together then grow further apart.

Ripples in Time, true to her nickname, remained as waspish as ever. "I found plenty of tracks on my own," she hissed...but that was that. Rink at last was speaking sense, and to encourage it, she let him take point this time. Perhaps their bickering had distracted them too much after all, and giving her brother the lead allowed him to display what leadership qualities he did possess.
Their relationship had never been flowers and sunshine. Perfect isn't easy, as they say.
Rip fell into blessed silence for a while as they hiked into the forest, each alert for any sign of prey.

Rink was happy that his sister had finally shut up for the moment and let him take the lead. They both were not having any luck and even venturing further from the scent of other packmates, they still were not having luck. Had everything in the area got the hint and ran away before Rip and himself had gotten the opportunity to find them, or at least any sign of them.
Enjoying the silence for a bit before his sister's vile tongue lashed out at him again, he started to move a few paces faster, hoping to find something before she did.

Rip could be terribly patient and quiet, just as she could be terribly loud. It wasn't the silence that got to her so much as it was the lack of progress. After an hour, it became clear to her that they needed to try a different area altogether. Going at it alone was tempting, but she often did things alone. Working with her brother would be a change of pace, and she couldn't become so acerbic and wrapped up in herself that she became a liability on future missions with other pack members.
"Let's double back," she suggested at length. And of course, because she couldn't help it: "I bet it's because you didn't bathe well enough; your scent scared them away."
