Name: Joanna Stevens (Got permission from Poods and Orange)

Nickname: Jo, Doc

Gender/Prounouns: She/Her/Hers

Age: 37

Birthday: September 21

School/Occupation: Psychiatrist Specializing in Sleep Disorders

Hobbies:
Trash TV
Joanna love love LOVES garbage reality TV. She knows it's all 100% fake, but that doesn't mean she doesn't bath herself in that boiling hot tea. She just feels like real life is so boring, there needs to be some spice to it, right? HEr favorite is Shahs of Sunset, where she can judge the petty issues of rich people. Honestly, it makes her feel better about freaking out over her own problems. At least she's not throwing wine in people's faces because of shoes, right?

Essential Oils
While Joanna doesn't necessarily believe in the metaphysical effects of essential oils, she can't deny the scientific studies and her own observations that diffusing certain oils and blends of oils in her office can often make for a more productive and calm session. The science says that certain oils, when absorbed through the muscus membranes of the nose andmouth, can release desirable chemicals in the brain. Because of this, Joanna enjoys dabbling in making her own blends.
In her home, she'll diffuse different blends like cinnamon and orange when she's cleaning to motivate her, or lavender and rose before bed to calm her down. She uses this in her professional life as well, and will diffuse oils based on patient files and even has bottles labeled with their names so that she can diffuse their special blend on her office when they come to see her. For instance, if a patient suffers from chronic generalized anxiety, she might diffuse lavender, chamomile, and sandalwood to calm them down. If someone has a hard time with their self-esteem, she might diffuse a blend of ylang ylang, bergamot, and vetiver to promote that in her client. She also uses oils in her own home, diffusing blends based on seasons and the moods she needs to encourage.

Girl Bands
Whenever Joanna hears a good girl band, it puts her right back in her childhood bedroom, jamming out with her girlfriends to all her favorite tunes. Not to mention they are all, down to a T, uplifting and happy songs. Even the breakup songs were somehow hopeful. It brings her comfort to know that those kinds of bands are still around -- the more things change, and all that. She keeps her finger on that musical pulse and fills her ipod with their discographies. Whenever she feels down, plays some girl band music and it takes her right back to simpler, happier times.

Virtues:
Tactful
Even bad news can be delivered with grace, and Joanna has this down to a science. Joanna is very good at making even the worst news sound palatable. Not good but... reasonable. This trait was born from her job, where she needs to choose her words very carefully with her more fragile clients to avoid triggering a crisis. Joanna is very aware of the power words hold and chooses her's very carefully so as to avoid unnecessary conflict and strife.

Consistent
Another trait born of her career, Joanna is consistent. She has a routine, and she sticks to it. This helps her patients feel normal -- or at least that they have an element of normalcy in their lives. This trait also helps Joanna weather the storms of her patients, remembering that no matter what happens, she has a next step that she can rely on. When you are working with Joanna Stevens, be it professionally or otherwise, you can always count on her to do exactly what she has always done.

Intuitive
You know that feeling when you know someone is lying but you have no proof? Or that someone is struggling even when they don't seem like it? Joanna has that kind of intuition. No matter what face someone puts on, Joanna can see right through it. This has been a boon to her both in her career and outside of it. Of course, as a therapist, it is important to see through the masks that her patients wear, but as an average joe, this is also valuable. She can see when people around her are plotting and scheming and when they are genuine. This has helped her weed out and be aware of more than a few snakes in the grass.

Flaws:
Manipulative
Being so immersed in the psychological world, Joanna is very well adept at twisting the wants and needs of others to fit her ends. She knows which words, mannerisms, and information to latch on to in order to make someone actually want do meet her goals. Even if they are... say less than honorable. This makes it very difficult for people to trust her once they figure out her game. Since she knows how to twist and work them, they tend to walk on egg shells when they are around her, and only interact when absolutely necessary. The only friends she seems to have are either pawns or people who are seeking to manipulate her as well.

Ulterior Motives
Joanna always has a whole other agenda that only she knows about. No matter what she's doing, there is always a secret end. This can make her tricky to work with because one never knows when she is working with you or against you. It's all about what she wants and what she needs. And if those wants and needs just so happen to line up with hers, then all the better for it, right? This can sometimes work against her because people tend not to trust her and those who do only trust her for a certain end. This makes it difficult for her to form real relationships with people since they tend to be temporary and born of need and not genuine affection. In fact, her whole social circle is either made of people who are only there to achieve a goal, and not a single soul that she genuinely enjoys being around.

Amoral
Not immoral, it's just that Joanna doesn't subscribe to any set of morals for any reason other than the practical. She took the Hypocratic Oath when she received her degree as a doctor, and for the most part, she adheres to that because it benefits her in terms of her career. She doesn't steal or murder, but only because the ramifications of those actions would be inconvenient, to say the least. She doesn't hold anything as morally higher or lower than anything else, and as such, she can easily rationalize poor behavior and choices based on how they serve her own goals and needs.

Eyes: Brown

Hair: Nearly white blond, always up in a bun with swoop bangs over her right eye

Face: Heart shaped

Skin Tone: Caucasian

Body Type: Small and curvy

Clothes: Dr Stevens is never seen out of her professional wear.

Hello Sweeny!!!

Let’s take a look at your lovely lady and get her ready for her stamp.

The last name of Stevens is already taken on the Master List. Stephens, however, is not if you wanted to swap the letters out! Otherwise, you’ll need to get permission from the other owners of the last name Stevens (and please notate it in your first post if you do!) to be able to use it.

(I love trashy TV too, it’s a guilty pleasure!)

Hobbies look great and her virtues/flaws are balanced and reflect the personality you’re going for very nicely!

I do need a little more elaboration on Manipulative and Ulterior Motives, however, as I’m not really seeing how the flaws impact her in a negative way. As they stand right now, manipulation almost reads as if it were a talent in her arsenal. Does it make it rough to be her friend, since she’s known for having ulterior motives? Or when she gets caught, rare that it may be, manipulating someone else, does it blow up in her face? I just need a little bit of extra detail on these two to understand better how these are negatives for her, especially the manipulative flaw.

Unfortunately, while I think the magical aspect of her weapon is really, really cool, Negaverse weapons don’t have much magic attached to them due to how lethal their weapons already are. While knights get to have magic be the feature of their weapons (which is why theirs aren’t lethal), Negaverse agents have weapons that do the damage for them. So maybe consider an actual morning star as her final weapon, or something equally damaging? As far as the magic goes, think of it as more of a magical enchantment on a weapon, something that will cause a single effect when a person is struck by the weapon -- like if someone is cut by it, they receive a temporary burning sensation. The magic is just a very minor side effect, it shouldn’t be the dominant feature. A more thorough explanation can be found in this answer to an earlier Q&A question.

Since you also asked for critique, here are a few things I’ve come up with:

It takes twelve years of schooling to become a psychiatrist so in theory, she’d be a relatively fresh face in the industry if she started college at eighteen and is now thirty-three. If you’re wanting her to be a more experienced doctor, I’d consider tacking on a few extra years to her age. Thirty-three is fine, of course, I just wanted it to be something kept in mind, depending on how knowledgeable you wanted her to be as a physician.

In your Essential Oils hobby, I’m intrigued by the comment “based on patient files” and would love more elaboration on what that means, especially as someone who has little to no knowledge about oils. Are there certain patients that benefit more than others? Or are there certain personalities that require certain scents -- I’m very curious and would love a bit of elaboration on how she determines what blends are best for her patients.

As a whole, you’ve written her flaws and virtues in direct correlation to her job but have given very little insight to how it impacts her life outside of her job. This isn’t a bad thing -- it’s just something to think about when designing her personality, since as a Negaverse agent, a lot of her battles will presumably take place away from her office and as a civilian, not all of her regulars will take place around her work as well.

Just a little food for thought!

Please feel free to ping or quote me if you have any questions, otherwise please quote me when you’re ready for me to swing back around for another review. Thank you! <3

I made a mental note to state that Orange and Poods will let me use the name without relation and then I just didn't make the note so GOOD GOING SWEENY biggrin

Trash tv is mood, bae, life, goals, aesthetic, everything.

Elaboration
Added to Manipulative: This makes it very difficult for people to trust her once they figure out her game. Since she knows how to twist and work them, they tend to walk on egg shells when they are around her, and only interact when absolutely necessary. The only friends she seems to have are either pawns or people who are seeking to manipulate her as well.

Added to Ulterior Motives: This makes it difficult for her to form real relationships with people since they tend to be temporary and born of need and not genuine affection. In fact, her whole social circle is either made of people who are only there to achieve a goal, and not a single soul that she genuinely enjoys being around.

On the note of her personality being written around her job
I know you didn't say this was a problem, but looking back at my writing, you are totally right and I didn't like that I did that. So I removed all mention of her job form her flaws and virtues, leaving it only in her Essential Oils hobby.

Essential Oils Elaboration

Age
Changed to 37

Weapon
Oh, I could swear that I saw some newer negas with a slight magical buff. Okay, then I'll make some adjustments!
Adjustments: Removed magical effects; added melee effects.

The elaborations look lovely, thank you for the additional information! <3

(And you're right, trash TV is definite bae).

I apologize if my wording was confusing but Negaverse weapons CAN have magic! Unfortunately, they can't have them to the extent that you've written. They're supposed to be treated as a secondary effect instead of the primary effect. To quote the answer from the Q&A I linked "Magic is a secondary trait and should never be stronger or more useful in battle than the weapon itself."

So the magic you've written as it stands does not fall within those parameters! Unfortunately smog isn't too much of an effect to work in this situation. You can have the weapon create a burning sensation when it hits, but a constant smog wouldn't work.

I've gathered a few examples that may help:

Angelite has a whip that causes brief static shock sensations when coming into contact with
Anatase has a claw weapon that causes cold, numbing sensations for 15 seconds
Jet has a swallow that petrifies the area around a cut for 15 seconds.

So I suggest focusing on what the weapon can do to a person when it hits them; AOE magic is reserved for senshi and knights, Negaverse weapons have direct hits -- magic is just a little baby bonus effect, when you hit General stage and should only focus on 1 effect, not several.

That actually makes a lot of sense! Would it be acceptable if I focused on the smog effect of the weapon and took away the melee effects? The reason I wish to do this is that Actinolite is a form of asbestos, so I wanted to focus on the inhalation theme of the name.

Sadly, that would make more sense as a Knight's weapon than it would a Negaverse weapon. Negaverse weapons are meant to be physical, first and foremost, rather than magical.

I understand why you might want those types of effects, but unfortunately it does not work for Negaverse weapons. Magic is a secondary and minor trait. It can not be the dominant effect, which is how you've written it.

Visually speaking, I don't see a problem with having a small smoggy appearance around the morning star for the sake of aesthetics but the smog itself would have to be harmless. The weapon needs to be the primary form of attack.

I've been trying to think of how to convey your desired effect and the best suggestion I have is that getting hit by the morning star could make the target feel unusually "winded" for a few moments than they normally would from a standard melee weapon, up to the player's discretion on how they interpret "winded" to be.
