SDRP TUTORING ACADEMY: EDU 101

This is the OOC thread for our Tutoring Academy which we hope to kick off the beginning of April with a special class just for tutors. If you're more of a beginner don't worry, once the tutors get through their class they'll start running one on one sessions with students to help with a wide variety of RP education needs.

So whether you want to sign on as a tutor or if you want help as a student just give us a shout right here.

If you have any questions you'd like answered either about the Academy or just RP in general feel free to ask us here and we'll put our heads together to answer them.

Comments and suggestions are also quite welcome as we want to hear from you on everything we do.

GAH! Oh, hello. I'm just waiting for my edumacation class to start up. Don't mind me. ALSO! April will be a good month for me as work is going to slow down and we'll only work every other Friday (hopefully) so weeee!

Yes what is it?

Class is now open and you've got your first assignment. It's just writing an introduction post so get to it guys! This is going to have to be a pretty fast paced class so you can't be lagging behind.

Also, just a head's up, the next assignment will require you to find some example RPs - one good one and one that needs serious improvement. You can look for them in Barton Town or around the guild. I strongly suggest you at least get a start on this now. You'll have to explain what's good and what needs work for each of them so keep that in mind when you're looking.

And to avoid possible conflict please don't pick an RP from anyone who is in the class, not even for the good one, not even the teacher's, not even your own.

Hey guys!

Mel (aka Umbraja, the teacher) got hit with a ton of meetings today so she asked me to tell ya she probably won't get the official post of the next assignment up till tonight at the earliest but she did post a course syllabus over the weekend that at least outlines all the assignments.

Have a look at the syllabus and get a head start on at least Unit 2 (the next assignment). Pay attention to the due dates.

Here's a few resources to help:

Making the Perfect Role-Play: Hilarious example of how not to RP.
SDRP Level Standards: basic overview links to the standards for the guild's RP ranking system. It's kind of biased against Barton style RP but still a good guideline and the crew is working on revisions.
Learn to Roleplay Like a Boss: Mostly good advice but heavily favors Barton style RP, Mel will explain styles in the next lesson.

Don't be afraid to have your own opinion on what makes a good (or bad) RP. If you can support your arguments well enough Mel will actually include them in the new Level Standards for the SDRP. In fact she might add an extra credit assignment on just that topic.

I've heard from almost every one of you now that you won't be able to get the assignment in by Monday so I'll push the due date to Friday.

Please, try to get it in as soon as you can. Also, don't fret over this. It should not be long and doesn't need to be at all in depth, just a brief overview.

I'll be giving extra credit to anyone who gets their post in by Monday and would greatly appreciate if the rest of you could post a link to your RPs in the OOC (this thread) so I know you've at least started on the assignment.
