There is a distinct sound of shuffling on the floor as though a billion tiny feet are fleeing from yours when you enter, as well as one loud CRUNCH.

Fortunately that crunch was just a paint chip from the obviously peeling walls which also serve as home to many an insect; you get the feeling you don't want to stay there very long, but that may just be because the translucent-yet-glowing woman in the middle of the room has just shot you a look that makes you question just how 'welcome' you are.

All she says to greet you is

Please don't step on any of my children...

Children? Does she mean all the creepy crawlies? Better keep your feet off of 'em just to be safe.

Cricket (School Nurse)

Gender:Female

Age: Been dead a while, 30+ years at least.

Faction/group thing: Ghost/...Glowy thingie.

Personality: Cricket isn't going to feel utterly sympathetic for your plight. She also won't feel guilty if your own efforts to stay alive don't really work out. Certainly she'll give you a little starting push if it's needed, but she's a believer of 'survival of the fittest', so if your arm fell off...

sit down, drink some water, and she'll get out the centipede-fear-vomit to maybe hold it back on. Need a painkiller to go with it? Suck it up and just keep some ice on that for the next week. What? She already shoved it right back on?

Then why are you bitching at her?

Certainly Cricket doesn't go out of her way to make you hate her if that's what happens, she simply isn't going to give anybody preferential treatment for any reason. This may also be why she doesn't exactly keep a lot of company to her name.

Either that or the creepy-crawlies she tends to attract.

Whichever.

She would also prefer if damage control came to her, but if she -must- leave her office, maybe she can be bribed with something or other... though not a lot of physical things appeal to her.


Fear: What makes them tick? MAGIC VOMITTING GLOWIPEDES. Basically using her fear as fuel, her centipedes can vomit out a phlegm like substance that can patch up a good variety of wounds. She's gotten adept enough at this to be able to handle a decent-sized student-body... but not if they all get dismembered at once, then it's first-come-first-serve and everybody else has to tough it out until tomorrow.


Noxious Bile
On the other end of the spectrum, with the fear fed into her centipedes becomes noxious, turning the glowing crawlies around her wrists into stiff rings which secrete poison on contact. It takes a lot of fear for this to be deadly, so unless she's trying to off you from the start, it won't kill most.



Ability: Futz with her own solidity (Enough to walk through walls and make physical contact when it's required of her. Not enough to go 'I AM A ROCK, BIATCH' and sink to the bottom of a lake.)

Position: Staff; Nurse

Role: Either creating sadists out of the student body or at least making sure the school doesn't send anybody home in three pieces to whine to mummy and daddy.

Cricket's Rules

Cricket will only ask her visitors to do a few things when they come to her office;

1. If they are injured, don't make a drama-deal of it. Cricket goes by first-come-first serve, even if your arm has come off. If you fuss, it will just take her longer to get to you.

2. DO NOT STEP ON THE BUGS. Cricket is named after a bug. Cricket's fear manifests as glowing centipedes. Does this really garner much more explanation?

3. Cricket does not feel her office is a place for long-term recuperation, however she will make a room-visit if the case garners enough interest for her. She'll be the one to determine that.

4. Cricket is currently the only healer in the building.

The Healing Dice Mechanics

Roll a 6-sided Dice to determine Cricket's reaction to your student appearing in her office!

1 - Cricket doesn't seem to care, for the most part. However, a few of her stray glowipedes seem to patch you up well enough to limp out.
2 - Cricket is busy. It's a few hours before she actually can attend to you - if you haven't wandered off before then.
3 - Cricket pulls out a traditional First-Aid kit and patches you up the good ol' fashioned way.
4 - Cricket hands you the First-Aid kit and has you do it yourself.
5 - Cricket doesn't see anything wrong with you and sends you off on your merry little way.
6 - An Actual FEARhealing! Gasp! It isn't anything too fancy, however. Just enough to hold together.

It was the first day of the project, only a few scant hours after Cricket had assigned the pairs and sent them away and already Sammy was marching into Crickets office. Without even taking a seat, and careful to avoid stomping any bugs on the floor she took a place in front of Cricket.

"That idiot demon took the pumpkin, did not even think to consider me when naming it, continued to insult me by calling me carrion and has the nerve to suggest I switch partners with Junko and Hadiyaa to raise the pumpkins before switching back during the final grade. He is a cheat, a p***k, and would make a horrible father with almost anyone woman. Fail me or whatever you want but I am NOT going to cheat or work with someone as self absorbed and obsessed with other girls."

She paused for a moment and grunted out another remark, "I'm also sorry for the outburst in class... he's a Jack-Dammned idiot and I shouldn't have gotten involved in what he was doing, but he deserved every bit of it."

In most any case, Cricket would have been severely annoyed to find any of her students marching in to her office, making a slight face before she looked to Sammy, seeming very much unamused even as the girl began to speak.

She didn't care about the fact the undead didn't have the spine to handle an insult (even the demon didn't. Really, the kids acted like...well..kids). However, the moment Sammy said 'He tried to switch partners on me', Cricket made a slight face, mostly gauged by the lifting of her eyebrows. Well...

that was a very good way to make sure that one failed two students in her course.

"Under that case, it will be wise for you..." she paused and went about fishing about for another one of her lovely little pumpkins, practically shoving it into the girl's hands. "To take care of this." she stated, not really saying if Sammy would be wise to find a partner or not, before she rose, practically sinking through the floor as she did to take her leave to elsewhere.

Someone was in trouble, and it was likely that they'd be ending up in the lovely realm of Princess Corner.... amongst other disasters.

"Nurse Cricket, ma'am?" Igneous carefully entered the office. "I'm here to turn in our assignment."

With her she carried a sturdy basket with a cooing pumpkin inside. It was nestled among several soft blankets and was shiny clean. There was a bag slung over her shoulder, and a box of slug cookies could be seen from the opening of the carrysack.

"Malodore and I did OK with little Ogo, though it scared me at first! Once we found out it liked cookies though things got better. Pumpkins can sure be messy though!" she giggled at the memory of Malodore covered in vegetative matter when it tried to have Ogo injest something healthier than the cookies. Bugs and cookies - those were the tricks to keeping this pumpkin happy!

[Eight]

Igneous was soon followed by Junko carefully cradling her and Yaya's pumpkin in her arms, finding she preferred to hold the pumpkin rather than carry it in something like most parents did. She looked down at the little creature peeking out from inside the pumpkin and giggled, making a silly little face down at it to try and make it laugh. "Yaya and I are ready too, Nurse Cricket." She chirped, still looking down at the pumpkin while being wary not to step on any of the creepy crawlies scurrying about.

Ooh they named their pumpkin Ogo? How cute! "We had an interesting...um...set up?" No doubt Nurse Cricket already knew of it thanks to Samantha, and while Junko did feel bad that something bad could happen to Braum because of it she honestly just hoped that she and Yaya didn't get dragged into it as well! It hadn't been their idea, they'd totally disagreed to switching partners! She liked Yaya's compromise better. "Taking care of a pumpkin wasn't so bad after all~." Junko was used to crying and screaming! The Mistress did it all the time!

Sin loped into the office and then had to sort of dance around in her stocking and shoe to avoid crushing any of Cricket's bugs. If she had been wearing both shoes she probably would have just walked in without a care, but there were more important things then shoes at the moment. She carried Mel in her arms with a tenderness that she rarely exhibited. Her features however were mildly panicked as she looked to Nurse Cricket.

"It's hatching!" She said in a high frantic tone and then turned to look for Morton. He had to be here NOW, what if it finished hatching? He was the father he should be there! Luckily he was hot on her heels and she relaxed a bit when she saw him, but it was pretty obvious she wasn't letting go of her baby...err pumpkin.

Morton appeared in the door way, skidding to a halt (almost missing the entry), by grabbing onto the door frame with one skeletal hand. He appeared to be somewhat breathless, for some odd reason, which was no doubt strange, given the fact he seemed to have no working lungs. In his free hand, he was actually carrying Sin's heel shoe, which he'd managed to pick up after the demoness had bolted, "You are a fast runner when you have your mind set to it!" he gasped as he finally entered the room, careful to avoid squishing any bugs on his way over to her.

When he reached the ghoul's side, he paused there and took a look around the room, trying to avoid his need to climb to the highest perch the place had to offer in order to survey it all from there. The gargoyle seemed to have no problem with letting the Succubus take the lead, and hadn't even bothered to give her the shoe he still carried in that one hand; he highly doubted she was going to let go of the pumpkin to put it on anyhow. He'd just give it back to her when they got out of here.

Julian walked through the door of Nurse Cricket's office and immediately stopped. Bugs... He'd have to step carefully. He glanced at some of the other students that were already there, some of their pumpkins hatched like Rowan was, others in the process of doing so. He walked over, glancing to see Belladonna behind him before he looked forward again and stopped at Nurse Cricket's desk. He didn't set Rowan down, though. He was having a bit of trouble letting go.



"We h-had a b-bit of a mish-hap earlier, b-but it seems fine. It wasn't anything ph-physical, just a m-misplacement." Julian felt he should be honest, but not to point any fingers. It had been partly his fault, too. He'd gone alone with the game, after all.

Siddie peeked in right behind Tybalt, her eyes rounded with concern. She tried to slip in as quietly as possible - she hadn't expected something to be lurking inside the pumpkin - if anything, wasn't it supposed to have turned into something? "Is it gonna be okay?" she asked anxiously.

It had been a bit of a surprise to find that something was poping out of the pumpkin, but as it never seemed to leave the confines of the pumpkin, she assumed that it was Pumpkin. The little Vetala lugged the creature, still wrapped in an old ripped scarf, into the classroom...where most of her classmates seemed to be doing the same thing. Right down to the careful stepping around the bugs; admittedly harder to do in her case, but still do-able.

"Umm...Mei and I did day and night shifts. Sometimes we gave the other a day or night off." Amrita said quietly, hoping the Nurse would hear her. But, until she had to give up Pumpkin, she held it against her somewhat hollow chest.
