Sin was rather flustered as she stood in her Fearleading uniform ready for practice and holding her baby. Okay so it wasn't actually a baby, it was a pumpkin, but to Sin it was all the same. She had been entrusted with it's care as if it really were her child. She didn't WANT to let it out of her sight, except that Fearleading meant the world to her. Luckily for Sin she was not a single parent, she had been paired up with Morton. Sin was surprised how much she had liked the male,he was sweet, charming, and he actually seemed to care about their 'child' instead of wanting to smash it,eat it, destroy it. All these things were good signs, but Sin was still terrified of handing over the baby, relinquishing control.
She walked around until she spotted Morton napping on a large boulder and softly tapped his...err shoulder bone. "Morton?"
She wasn't sure how she would just give over the baby, what was she supposed to say? Should she give him instructions? Did he really need them? It was just a pumpkin after all! Still she felt nervous about the entire ordeal, but even more afraid of being late to practice.

To his own surprise, Sex-ed class actually... hadn't be a drag, like he'd initially thought it would probably be. He'd gotten to talk to quite a few students, and had managed to enjoy himself (though he made note that he probably needed to go make friends with more males - no, he didn't really think Julian qualified in this category). The task they'd been set with didn't really strike him as particularly nasty or bad, but then again... that might have had a lot to do with the fact he'd decided he rather liked his partner. That and the fact she seemed happy with taking the lead of the project - taking the lead apparently meant holding, guarding, or otherwise touching the pumpkin for 95% of the time it'd been in their possession.
As such, Morton had pretty much been reduce to the comfortable role or playing bodyguard when she seemed to require him to, and that was an art he was well versed in. All in all, the whole ordeal didn't really seem particularly vexing to him; he still had his free time, and he was happy to indulge by napping on one of his favorite boulders, allowing the sun to warm his bones through the clothes he was wearing.
In all honesty, he'd heard the girl approaching (it didn't seem like she was trying to be particularly stealthy at that moment in time, not to mention the fact her scent was a tell-tale sign as far as he was concerned). However, the Gargoyle's eyes remain closed, and he allowed himself to remain stock still, arms pillowing his head while one leg remain crossed over one propped up knee. It wasn't till she tapped his shoulder that he allowed himself to slide one eye open to look at her, "Hmmmmm?" the drawled out noise and the way he'd opened his eyes, not to mention the small smirk that appeared on his features, seemed to betray the fact he'd been awake all along, but then again... that was exactly the point, "You look worked up," he commented as he watched her through his one open eye, "What, exactly has you so wound up and bothered?"

Wound up was right Sin was tense and nervous, but that wasn't really new to her. She had lived her whole life trying to live up to immense expectations so being tense was just a natural state most of the time. Shopping that was Sin's form of therapy and relaxation, though sometimes finding the perfect outfit could stress her out as well. Still this was different because she HAD to get to practice and she had to relax and stretch before they started.
"Well...I have Fearleading practice in 20 minutes..." She started and then fidgeted a bit cocking a hip and resting the pumpkin against it as one would hold a heavy toddler.
Now what was she supposed to say, she had to ask him didn't she? She had to ask him to take care of the baby...well it was their baby. Except, what if something happened? What if Morton decided he didn't like Mel, or that he really had a craving for pumpkin pie!
"So...I thought...maybe you could, well maybe if your not busy right now? I could maybe leave Mel with you while I have practice? I'll come right back after!" She quickly added not wanting him to think she was just going to dump their baby with him all day.

Morton had swiftly noted that 'wound up' didn't even begin to describe just how nervous the demoness was. As such, despite the fact he was looking at her idly through one open eye, she inevitably had his full attention due to this, even if it didn't look like it, "Yes, and...?" he prompted, finally open his other eye so he could look up at her fully, arching a brow up as he she fidgeted. For some odd reason, the fact she looked utterly uncomfortable with the situation (even if he had no idea yet what the 'situation' in question even WAS), Morton took pity on her and pushed himself up to a sitting position.
Then again, the fact he was going to throw a metaphorical bone at her, didn't mean he was going to make this all a cake walk entirely. So thus, he just sat there, innocently tilting his head to one side as he patiently waited for her to elaborate. It wasn't until she spoke again that he found himself covering his mouth with a hand to hide the grin that had formed. Unfortunately for him, his skeletal hand did very little to hide his mirth; one look at her face had him first trying to swallow some giggles and then... devolving into laughter as she promised to come right back after practice.
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry!" he quickly apologized, hoping to Jack he hadn't offended her terribly; it was just that watching the otherwise... elegant girl look like she was going to have a minor panic attack was kind of amusing. Actually, no, it was very amusing, and he just couldn't help himself, "Sin," he began as soon as he took a couple of deep breaths to calm himself down, "Honey," he stressed the word out, almost as if in an attempt to tease her, "I'm a gargoyle. I'm pretty sure that there's nowhere safer for that bab- er pumpkin to be, than with me," he took the moment to look around furtively and then leaned in to whisper something at her, almost as if he were about to divulge some sort of secret of vital importance, "We have an almost existential need to protect," technically, that was common knowledge, and all he'd wanted was to tease her just a bit more, but whatever.
After a beat, he held out his hands, "So, you gonna give 'er to me, or what?" then as an afterthought, he added, "Look, I'll even go with you and watch you fearlead, how about that? That way you can keep an eye on her," not like she really needed to, but hey, whatever.

Oh geeze he looked completely nonplussed then finally he sat up and seemed to focus. He was paying attention wasn't he, he seemed to be..somewhat. She jumped a bit and then quickly cradled Mel in her arms when Morton started to laugh. What was so jack damn funny, she was in a seriously tight spot here! She didn't want to just abandon the baby, but she couldn't exactly do backflips holding her. Maybe she could find one of her ghoulfriends fast to babysit, could Alcie maybe? Then Morton started to apologize and she blew out a soft breath.
"I know your a gargoyle...and I trust you Morton..." Except she didn't look very trusting she actually she looked hesitant. She licked her lips and glanced down at Mel again then back up at Morton.
"Of course...of course just uhh hold her carefully cause if you keep her in one place too long she could get a bruise." She slowly held out the pumpkin still looking a bit uncertain. As soon as the baby was in his arms she sighed and stepped back the tension visibly leaving her shoulders.
"Okay so...practice is only one or two hours, and then I shower and change, and then I'll be right back." She gave her neck a little tweak and took another step back but lingered incase Morton had a question or concern.

"You say you know it, but you don't seem to really understand what that means," he made another motion for her to give him the pumpkin, tilting his head to one side again, almost dog like in mannerism, "You look like you don't trust me. I'm hurt," while still holding out that one hand, he used his free one to clutch melodramatically at the clothes that would have been directly over his heart (had he had one anyhow), "Come on, Sin. M'not gonna eat it."
In all honesty, he had no idea why the girl was so... distrusting when it came to the pumpkin. After all, he wanted good grades just as much as the next kid, and somehow, he doubted he was going to acomplish that by harming the 'child'. Morton had no way of knowing that her fears were much more deeply rooted to her species and race.
When she finally handed him the 'baby' in question, he set it on his lap and arched a brow at her again, "A bruise?" a pause, and then a nod, "If you say so; don't worry. She'll be right as rain here," he made sure he was actually resting his hands on the pumpkin, almost as if to assure the demoness that no one was going to put their hands on it, "Sure, sure, shoo now! You're gonna be late, and the stress is probably gonna kill yah or something! Don't panic over this and just go, I'll still be here in a couple of hours."
When she finally took a few steps away, the gargoyle snorted slightly and placed the pumpkin on the ground. He shifted to his real form and curled around the 'baby' in such a way that it was virtually impossible to touch it without going past some bony section of the male's body. Then... he waited for time to pass, never quite falling entirely asleep as he kept vigil.

"Well what exactly does it mean then-no wait just hold that thought or I'll be late for practice. Look...I trust you Morton really I do I'm just a little nervous I guess." Boy did she look nervous, and none of that tension was from practice, it was all baby focused. When Morton questioned the bruising she felt her muscles bunch in her shoulders. Damn that would take a bit to stretch out unless she wanted to pay for it later.
"Yes! They CAN bruise, haven't you ever seen bruised fruits or vegetables, if you just let them sit or hit them. It's like child abuse...even if Mel is just a pumpkin." Then she really couldn't stick around any longer, she danced over and gave Morton and quick small hug. "Thanks!" Then she was off running back towards the center of the field to get ready.
She stretched and arched moving side to side and up and down until everything was loose. Then she started to do some solo warm ups, a few handstands and cartwheels before the others arrived. Once practice was over she gave Morton a quick wave and then headed to the lockers to shower and change before returning to relieve him of his sitting duties.

He'd watched the fearleading practice out of the corner of an eye, his form still curled around the pumpkin. Granted, he wasn't giving the girls his full attention, but then again, he really doubted they wanted it. Every now and then, Morton would slip both eyes closed and seemed to lay perfectly still, as if asleep, however, whenever a random shriek, or shout pierced the air, that one eye would open again, take a look around and then would either focus on the practice or slip back shut again.
All in all, as far as Morton was concerned, it was a delightful way to spend his time; he was protecting the 'child' and he was resting. What ever more could he ask for?
It wasn't till Sin waved at him that the gargoyle lifted his head from where he'd kept it on the ground beside the pumpkin. Then, he opened his mouth wide and released a yawn before shaking the kinks out of several parts of his body in turn. It was while he was doing this that the... thing moved. Instantly, he paused, frowned, and turned his gaze down at the pumpkin, "Uhhhm...." after a few seconds flew by and nothing happened, he shrugged and went back to the stretching, making sure to take turns with what parts of his feral body he stretched, just so he could remain mostly curled around the 'child'.
He'd just finished stretching his neck up when the pumpkin shook again, and he froze in place again, "Sin?" a looked off where the girl had previously disappeared, "HEY, SIN!" he yelled, not sure if she was finished, or if she could even hear her, "IS THIS THING 'POSED TO SHAKE?!"

Sin had just showered and slipped into her usual slinky black dress putting her fearleading costume into a bag to launder later tonight. Well okay she usually didn't have to launder things herself if she could convince a friendly gnome to do it for her. What a pity one couldn't bring servants to school it would make things much easier. Still she was managing well enough away from her plush nest, she tossed her hair back and then as she was slipping on her heeled boots she heard Morton's shout.
Sin darted outside faster then she had ever run from Breck's shed and almost tripped thanks to having one stocking clad foot and the other half inserted into her high heel. She shook the boot off and rushed over to Morton heart pounding.
"What do you mean shake?! It's shaking!? What's wrong!?" She sounded quite hysterical actually and looked ready to snatch the pumpkin away from Morton to boot.

"I er... mean exactly that," he said as he watched the demoness stumble out of the dressing rooms. He winced as she nearly tripped, and watched sympathetically from glowing, green eyes, "It shakes. Every so often. Wait, watch," he set his head on the pumpkin, leaning it there, but uncurled his body so that he was now laying beside it instead, "Watch closely, or rather, put your hand on it."
Sure enough, after a few moments, the thing shook again. Morton had been waiting for it, and thus, the movement did not spook him like it had the first or second time; instead, he turned his gaze back up at Sin and arched a bony ridge, almost as if it were a brow, "See? What does that mean? Nothing seems to have happened to it, apart from it shaking," a pause, "Is it like an egg?" another pause, "Do eggs shake before they hatch?"

She quickly put her hand against the pumpkin and tried to relax, maybe Morton had just imagined the sha-OH DEAR JACK! It shook, it had trembled under her hand and she looked at it fearfully. Had they cracked it or something, was this shaking their fault somehow? She took a deep breath and tried to calm down.
"Okay...okay maybe it's just supposed to do this..." Except she didn't really sound very confident that was the case. She bit her lip and then leaned in closer almost kneeling infont of morton and running her hands slowly along the pumpkin. "It doesn't look like it's damaged." Slowly she stood back up and ran a hand through her hair.
Then Morton asked if it was like an egg and she looked at him nervously, was he getting hungry? "No! eggs are for frying and eating, the baby is not." Then she realized he was probably referring to hatching not eating and she looked at him apologetic. "Oh...uhh...maybe...maybe that's it." Except that made her even more worried, were the pumpkins supposed to hatch, and if they did what came out?

Had he been just a touch meaner, Morton would have probably smirked when the demoness startled, "See? Told you so!" a pause followed, "I didn't do anything to it, by the way - it totally wasn't me. And no one came near," having shifted back to his usual form, he sat himself down on the edge of the boulder and placed the pumpkin on his lap, arching a brow at her, "Not gonna EAT it, Sin," in all honesty, he wasn't sure he'd have been able to 'eat' anything if he'd tried - he could remember that one instance where he had... and it had been messy, unsatisfying business. Since then, he'd happily laid off food, instead feeding directly off of FEAR instead, "I meant that I think it might be hatching. Or something. I hope it's the former and not the later... 'cause if it's the later, I have no idea what the hell it might be."
He ran a skeletal hand through his hair and then decided that the situation called for action. Taking a deep breath, the Gargoyle made a mental to-do list:
1. Shift back into human form - CHECK! 2. Keep self from freaking out - .... sort of check! 3. Keep demoness from freaking out - Uuuhh... check. (He doubted she was going to calm down more than she currently was, given the circumstances) 4. Go to see Nurse Cricket - ...HUH!
The hand that he'd been running through his hair stilled and he lifted his head to look at Sin, "Heeeey," he chirped, "I seem to recall Nurse Cricket saying something about how we had to go see her once the baby er... popped out," a pause, "I think those were her exact words. His gaze fell down upon the pumpkin on his lap as it gave another shake, this time a touch more violent than the previous ones, "D'you it's going to-"
He was cut off when the top of the pumpkin indeed seemed to 'pop' and out peeked... well, Morton had no idea what 'it' was, but he was pretty sure that scarelings did NOT look like this, "-Pop?" he finished his previous phrase as he held up the pumpkin, offering it to Sin, "And should we go see the Nurse?"

Sin was quite shocked and then Morton started to make sense and she slowly relaxed and nodded. Yes, what he was saying made sense, the pumpkin was probably about to hatch. She looked up at him with a faint blush and then her voice slowly lowered and calmed.
"I knew you weren't going to eat it...sorry I just...panicked." She couldn't really explain why the pumpkin had become so important to her. Maybe it was maternal instinct or maybe she just wanted to prove that she was more caring then she seemed.
"Nurse Cricket right, that's probably where we should g-" She froze and looked down and then suddenly the top of the pumpkin seemed to pop up. She gasped and quickly jerked moving to reach out to Morton, alright alright she trusted him but now she wanted to hold it! "Lets GO!" She yelled with as much force as any mother about to deliver a child...or what have you.

"S'cool, don't worry," he managed a small, swift smile before he turned to look down at the... thing, which in turned wiped the smile right off his features, if for no other reason than the fact he honestly thought these were deeper waters. Shaking his head as if to clear it, he focused his attention back on Sin as he hooped off the boulder, "I don't offend easily, don't worry your pretty little head over it. Panic all you want. I think we're in our right to do so, though I'd suggest we... follow a neat little mental plan to avoid the panicking having er... side effects that could cause permanent damage to the pumpkin," like dropping it in fear or something like that; the pumpkin wasn't quite as fragile as an egg, he was sure of that, but still... he wasn't sure how it'd respond to accidentally being dropped.
"Nurse cricket it is then!" he half-chirped, half-squeaked, betraying the fact he too, deep down, was way out of his comfort zone suddenly. He wasn't sure what he'd expected the pumpkin to do, but popping... hadn't really been high on his list of posibilities (in fact, it hadn't been on the list at all). He allowed the demoness to grab hold of the er... baby...thing, "Yup!" he took a couple of steps forward and then paused, looking a lot like a lost, kicked puppy, "I dunno where her ofice is... I er... get lost a lot, unless I fly, and I don't think flying's a good idea at the moment. So you lead the way," a pause, and then because he really couldn't resist the irony of the situation, he added, "Hon-bun," to the end of his phrase, managing a small, nervous smirk, as if the tease would somehow help them both feel slightly more at ease.

"Right, so I'll calm down..." She nodded and took a deep breath slowly seeming to calm down as she took the pumpkin...baby back into her arms. She grinned up at Morton glad that he was helping diffuse the tension she was feeling.
"It kinda has my eyes..."
Right, they had to get to Nurse Cricket and hopefully before the pumpkin did anymore popping! She looked at him surprised and then nodded with a smile.
"Ahh see I new a boil with such good humor had to have some downside to him, directionally challenged! At least your smart enough to admit it instead of trying to lead me in circles." She half laughed and then moved to head towards Nurse Cricket's at a brisk pace...it was surprising that Sin of all ghouls had left her gorgeous heels on the lawn and was rushing towards the nurse in her stockings. Then again it was just a testament that some things were actually more important to her then fashion.
