Do Stuff Month Contest / Occultic Winter Olympics 2009 "I went there." In the vein of the previous Do Stuff Weeks, I propose this event to challenge the members of the MPRILC, wherever they may be. It all goes down in December, unless there's a violent riot, you guys sure have been rowdy, lately. The name of the game? MAGIC!
Or Psionics, Alchemy, the Occult, what have you! The objective is a personal project that the participant himself chooses. It can range from anything from lucid dream log to ritual to set of experiments to a mass raising of the undead to send forth a scourge upon this very earth! Calling upon an army of angels to protect humanity is fair play in this case, but otherwise interfering with others is not part of the contest.
The point of this is to get people doing quality stuff, first and foremost, and maybe spark new tradition at the MPRILC. At the end of the deadline, which will last a solid 30 days, the participants will have their work submitted for everybody to vote or score on in a system yet to be determined. I don't want people blatantly saying that X is better than Y, but people voting on their favorites or acknowledging someone's hard work or sheer guts for seriously trying to raise undead armies.
Rewards for being the highest scored will be +Reputation in the Guild, and I also encourage people participating or not to offer up their own rewards to the winner. For example, I may be participating, but I'll write a lovely soliloquy (or spell), for the victor!
Now, by the gods, post!
Oh hey, look what suddenly appeared in everyone's signatures.

Guidelines
• The event shall begin on December the 10th, ending on January 10th. Try to announce your projects by then. I'll allow late entries, as I'd like to get at least 10 participants.
• Participants should announce their intended project before the event begins, or at least before the halfway point of the event, not sure yet.
• Submissions must be related to the occult, obviously.
• If you're going to attempt something crazy [see first post], do it with a straight face. Think of the style of the "Zombie Survival Guide".
• It's not about winning. It's about contributing things that will expand the minds of others, give them something to talk about, or even something they can use for themselves.
• Things that are encouraged, not necessarily all at the same time: Daring. Research. Compassion. Projects that are updated in their own threads or involve the participation of others. Trying new things or different styles that we might not expect, so that we may know where events like these are capable of going.

The Voting System/Scoring SystemAzana Brown - Creativity of Project: Someone trying something new and novel should get points over the occult equivalent of the baking-soda-and-vinegar volcano. - Ambition of Project: The size of the project, the amount of work involved, the sheer impressiveness of it all. - Completion: Someone who actually finishes their project, rather than getting only halfway. (This, of course, would be tempered by the ambition score.) - Quality of Results: The reporting of what you did, what happened, and the data that emerged. You can do all sorts of stuff, but the way you let us know should count for something. - Enthusiasm and Activity: The passion which the person brings to the project and its completion, including active discussion on the forums and regular status reports. - Bonus Points: If there's just something really cool, such as collaboration, a phenomenal find, or just the contestant being generally awesome about things, they can have a couple points in a miscellaneous category. Ranks in Categories Shall be given 1 to 10 scores, and you may bequest up to 3 bonus points, which better have good reasons behind them. Everything willl be added up at the end. Remember though, it's not about winning! Contest RewardsKnowing that the community respects you enough to present your project as the winner! Other people may offer their rewards up here, obviously if we get a lot of offers the winner won't get a giant lion's share or anything, so we'll distribute it. Post your thoughts on this.

I'm in the middle of Robert Bruce's Astral Dynamics. Maybe I can finally stop failing conscious projection for this Olympics stuff.

I'm thinking meditative transforming self journey, a large ourdoor sigil, or a sublime work of art dictated in a divine trance.

I'm 5K off of winning NaNo this year, and I think if I can pull this off, I can kick the arse of anything else I could conceivably do. I'm totally gonna take part; I just have to decide what I'm gonna do.
Tangentially, this is proof that you should be our Guild Dude, if Josh is still considering stepping down or whatever.

This post is reserved for what I decide my project to be. This is perfect timing, since I'll be on break for most of that month. Of course, I'm planning on starting my work through a couple Zell-Ravenheart texts around that point, too.
I'll be quite busy, it appears.

Might I suggest the captain release a Guild Announcement to try and draw more members into this venture?

Azana Brown Might I suggest the captain release a Guild Announcement to try and draw more members into this venture? Oh dude I didn't know they even had this out yet. Literally been waiting for this for years. I'm gonna spam the membership into activity if it kills me, damnit, you're on the guild list now it's time to do guild stuff.
Also I honestly have little to no preference to stepping down, the #1 thing I want is results, I want to see an active, thriving guild, with our unique and sexy culture, old boys and new chaps (also includes girls, btw, it's just classy language) and basically rip it up in the magick world.
Also ******** other paranormal guilds. You know, the lame ones. (If you run one, and we're friends, it's probably not your guild I'm talking about. Well.... nah, it's probably not.)

I'd really like some feedback or opinions of how we should do the voting/scoring system, or the rewards system, just to keep conversation going.
I mean, if nobody cares and just wants to do occultic stuff, awesome.

SPOILERS: I have heard, through my extensive spy network, that Obscurus will perform a sexy dance to whomever is declared the winner. He just wanted to keep it on the down-low (and has been doing for years). For a nice, radical, ۞-style democratic vote, we could all come up with our own ways of scoring people, then pick our favourite, then tally up the total number of favourites and see who is the winz0r castle.

So essentially, Mitsh, you feel that it should be ultimately up to a vote of favorites, with scoring as extra-fun-stuff? If so, I like that idea.

I think there has to be at least some criteria besides simply "pick our favorites". Perhaps judging on a set of standardized attributes:
- Creativity of Project: Someone trying something new and novel should get points over the occult equivalent of the baking-soda-and-vinegar volcano.
- Ambition of Project: The size of the project, the amount of work involved, the sheer impressiveness of it all.
- Completion: Someone who actually finishes their project, rather than getting only halfway. (This, of course, would be tempered by the ambition score.)
- Quality of Results: The reporting of what you did, what happened, and the data that emerged. You can do all sorts of stuff, but the way you let us know should count for something.
