Physical Description:
I stand at six feet one inch and weigh one hundred and eighty pounds. I have long, gray, wispy hair that is deceiving to my young appearance. I have gray eyes and an athletic build. A Thousand Words could not tell you.

Tsume Hiya En No (Claw of cold fire) is a jet black tanto that is usually hidden inside his uniform

With a burst of blue flames the tanto peels back into a rather odd shield covered blade. The blade and shield are freezing cold to the point of causing pain simply by touch.
The blades can shift to two other forms, each effecting the weapons ability differently.
Ability: Cold Fire.
This process begins with the command, "Thaw your frozen heart," which causes blue flames to erupt from the demons mouth and between the blades. In contrast to the cold metal the flame is extremely hot.
This fire can be shot out in a narrow beam (The size of a balled fist) and will be fired out of the demon's mouth as well in a pillar (Three fist). The main beam has a 150 foot reach and the pillar only has a sixty foot reach.

It all begins with a simple truth. This is not a fire based zanpakuto. That would be boring and the Sage does not do boring. Tsumi Hiya is actually a temperature based zanpakuto. The fire is created via a highly flamable gas that is constantly flowing between the blades of his zanpakuto's shikai form. This gas is why the shield part is so cold to the touch. Cold fire is simply a command to send a wave of superheated air (Obviously to the point of ignition, thus it is a VERY high temperature) and ignite the gas to send it on its way forward. The heat dies down as it gets further away, but up to 40ft away it is still hot enough to turn sand into glass. This is just a general idea of how hot it is. Because of this heat Kusari cannot constantly use the attack for a long flow and must release it in short burst or risk burning his hands.
In form two, activated at will, the fire will be released in a thin, but wide sheet. (Four and a half feet, an inch thick and sixty five foot reach.) This may instead be released as a four foot disc of fire to increase the range to two hundred feet, but sacrifice the ability to redirect the aim.
In the final form, the blast is fired backwards in a spray that covers fifty feet at its widest point and is fired fifty feet backwards. This form also launches Kusari forward at four times his normal speed, but he cannot turn.
The weapon itself has a hidden form that it teases Kusari about, but will not reveal the command for.
"Restrict"
The shield unravels and wraps into a gauntlet, forcing the blades forward into a wrist mounted katar. The glove is light to Kusari, yet heavy as it should be otherwise. The scales are each an individual blade, turning the entire arm into a weapon, as well as the cold fire shots now being wider and flatter. In this stage Kusari's speed increases four fold.
The blades can unfold into a giant shurikan that can be launched into a destructive frenzy, firing cold fire in every direction as it journeys.
Finally the blades can be withdrawn to give Kusari access to his hands, yet they can and will launch forward upon impact with 300 lbs of force.
Bankai: Reisen Kasai , Hokkyoku Inferuno (Cold Fire, Arctic Inferno)
Upon releasing bankai a huge heat wave radiates from Kusari's arm that makes the general area around him uncomfortable, but it quickly implodes with a chilling wind that upon hitting Kusari, turns his skin blistering red momentarily. Though this isn't actually his skin, but a film coating it. With another burst of heat, much smaller than the last, the red bubbles up into armor and a giant shield appears on Kusari's back, as well as his blades becoming plain old katar with retractable blades that are mounted on his wrist. The armor covers Kusari's entire body save for his torso.

Some Interesting notes about this bankai: There are two spirits for his bankai, but only one for his shikai.
Its not based on an element, its based on the concept of temperature.
Special Accessories:
He wears a metal collar, a lockpick set, and has two hidden blades in each of his shoes, because he refuses to wear sandals.

Personality:
Kusari is very easy going and excessively blunt. He often comes off as rude, but he is merely an opinionated man that speaks his mind. His easy going lifestyle almost makes people forget his vast intelligence, but its a rare occasion that Kusari isn't already making a plan B.
Biography/History:
Kusari was born to the name Kusari Gouka, of the infamous Goukao clan of Japan. He played along until he graduated high school. His family was rich and he had to be perfect. He was Magna c** Lade for both High School and College, and he was the star athlete of the kendo team and the track team, but it wasn't who he wanted to be. He graduated with a degree in Architecture, changed his last name, and left to fly to America, when his plane crashed down and he died at see. To this day Kusari has a fear of great bodies of water.
As a soul he lived in the seventh rukongai district in total bliss, seeing the walls of the sereitei over the horizon every day, and realizing that there had to be something better to do with his afterlife than sell furniture for his soul families store. He went off to the shinigami academy hoping never to live such a meaningless life as he had up until this point.

After Kusari graduated the academy he joined squad seven and instantly found a friend and rival in Kaisho Fuyuki. They fought together and trained together on and off, but Kaisho always managed to be a step ahead. This caused a tension to build inside Kusari until he challenged Kaisho to a fight in a cave outside the Sereitei where Kusari tried to kill Kaisho. This tension grew even larger when Kaisho became the Squad seven vice captain. At that time Kusari went to seek a way in which he could be better than Kaisho.
Kusari found that in Kido. As he learned more and more of the Demon Arts Kusari began to combine his martial arts with his kido to form a new creation, or so he thought. Kusari also found a friend and mentor in Captain Yamoto Shiiboo, a man he had always idolized.

Through many years of meditation and training Kusari has learn a supernatural technique called zen.
In his own words Kusari would tell you that "Zen is like God's bubble of protection over the souls of the innocent," but in reality Zen works by breaking apart soulless objects with the intent to harm him. Obviously this would not work against a zanpakuto or a person, but if a person were to fire a bullet at Kusari, that object is so small that it would dissipate entirely before reaching him. The ability backfires with most kido though, taking a shot of blue fire and spreading it so that it would hit his entire body. Anything smaller than 2 cubic feet will be broken into dust. The ability starts at the inside and works its way out.
As previously said, this ability only works is somebody has the intent to harm Kusari. Example: Kusari is in Zen mode and hits his head on a pipe. "Ow." Kusari is in Zen mode and somebody throws a rock at him. Nothing.
Another thing is that zen mode requires focus to enter. For one round Kusari must not attack his opponent and instead close his eyes and focus. If he enters Zen mode his eyes will glaze over like that of a blind man's, and zen will be in effect. To exit Zen mode Kusari must break the cardinal rule of the monks that teach Zen. "Do not attack until provoked."
