[ Introduction ] __ [ Rider Profile ] __ [ Dragon Profile ] [ Firelizards ] __ [ Known People ] __ [ Roleplays & Plots & Plans ] Name: Amelia Age: 19 Gender: Female Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual Craft: Minercraft Rank: Journeyman Excavator Weyrling / Goldrider
History: Born into a family that called the High Reaches Weyr home, her parents were both involved in minecraft. Her mother was a geologist while he father was an excavator. From an early age she has been exposed to dragons, riders, explosives and more dirt and rock then an average person would likely consider healthy. Her friends came from the weyr and the craft halls alike and most barely mentioned the work of her family. It bothered her and helped sew the seeds of a strong will and a deep-seated pride in the craft that ran in her blood.
When she was able to, Amelia joined the minecraft hall as an apprentice and quickly gained the title of journeyman at the age of seventeen. Having benefited from the knowledge and mentorship of not only the other miners but her parents as well, Amelia found she rather enjoyed the labourious work of an excavator - the blunt humour and honest work that would eventually result in countless feet passing through the tunnels she and her father bore through the rock. It amused her, really, to know that as thankless and humble the job was, each and every person who walked through the hand-hewn walls were placing their lives in the hands of geologists and excavators like her parents.
A turn has passed since her gaining the title of journeyman and her rough-and-tumble attitude has drawn her out of the lower caverns for longer periods of time. There is activity in the main areas of the weyr and curiosity has called her to investigate. It was easy enough to learn of the new clutch and the queen’s egg - a hatching she intends to watch.
Attending the Hatching, she watched as the dragonets made a spectacle of the thing and even came face to face with a young, unbonded blue that thought her very interesting. However, that blue did not choose her and she rather thought that would be her story to take back to the other miners. When the gold egg hatched, the young queen paraded about the Sands and proceeded to display a surprising helping of self confidence and awareness of her position by forcing those gathered to bow to her. Among the chaose of fighting dragonets, injured candidates, and a circus of a hatching, the gold eventually addressed those at the Hatching and declared Amelia her chosen one.
Since then, Amelia has been trying her best to adjust to the demands of a gold with ambition enough for the both of them and the duties and knowledge required of a rider - both unfamiliar territory for the woman but she was eager to learn. On the cusp of understand Sharath, Amelia knows she must devote her life to the new calling but it at times struck by how she must leave her dreams behind.
Appearance: With black hair, dark eyes, and naturally pale skin, she would have been a dark beauty had her life taken her over different paths. As it is, her face is almost always smudged with grit of some sort, her hair is pulled up into a messy bun and she nearly always wears coveralls for their practicality when excavating. Comfortable with shovel, pick, or explosive charge, she has a sort of unconsciously proud and confident posture about her. Quick to smile and unafraid to get dirty, it’s a rare sight to see her without some hint of her craft upon her person. Wearing minimal jewelry, Amelia’s sole fancy item is a necklace of a soaring dragon her family commissioned for her when she gained the journeyman rank.
Her body type is athletic and muscular due to her work. She is not petite by any interpretation of the word - standing nearly six feet tall (5’9”), she can almost look her father in the eye without trouble and shoulders tools nearly as well as any other miner. That’s not to say she does not have feminine charms – well proportioned and well endowed, Amelia’s charm would shine through if she took the time to dress up.
Personality: Proud, bold, and confident, Amelia isn’t afraid of lending a hand. Proud of her family and her craft, she’ll often spend hours simply exploring the tunnels they’re in the process of building, memorizing the twists and turns even as she learns about the techniques and tools used in excavation. Easy going and inclined to laugh, she has no qualms about chatting with fellow miners or weyrfolk alike – though weyrfolk, and riders, tend to pass her by. She usually shrugs the lack of attention off easily, confident enough in herself to know that it’s not a personal sleight. Now that she is a goldrider and she can rarely pass a day without someone defering to her, Amelia often stops them in embarassment and asks these people to call her by her name like a friend. The sheer amount of attention is confusing the girl and she wonders if it's only because people see the colour of her dragon or because they're genuinely interested in her as a person.
While she is not afraid of closed or small spaces, Amelia does enjoy the openness of the Weyrbowl. She does not, however, know how to swim and tends to avoid Faseth's Lake on principle. Strong and intelligent, she is well suited to her craft and sometimes surprises people with her quick wit and strong understanding of numbers. Secretly, she sometimes enjoys that reaction and believes she’s made an impression upon the person she’s surprised. Eager to learn, to do, and to inform she can be found teaching the apprentices a thing or two when she is not involved in training of her own. With a dragon in tow, she is hardly ever seen without Sharath and spends a great deal of time taking care of the growing gold, though she tries to return to her roots in the busy and hectic schedule - a habit she knows she must break but is reluctant to do so. At a crossroads of sorts, she's slowly changing her routines and putting her old life to bed. Nonetheless, Amelia is looking forward to the challenge of the future and does not regret Sharath one bit - the gold, despite her faults, completes Amelia in a way she did not quite expect and she revels in the feeling of having someone there.
Possessed of a strong sense of curiosity towards the dragons, another favourite past time of hers is to sit along the edge of the Weyrbowl and watch the dragons wheel about overhead. Much like any other non-rider, she wonders just what it’s like to call a dragon friend but does not expect to find an answer to that question.
On a final note, Amelia has a temper. It is slow to ignite but when she is angry she will fume and yell and argue until her temper has run itself out. Be warned, however, if she believes herself truly wronged she can and does hold long-lasting grudges. In a fit of temper she will fling hurtful, pointed things but when holding a grudge she can be very cold – to the point of being disrespectful and ignoring the person as if they don’t exist. Also vindictive to a point, Amelia is not above seeing someone get their ‘just deserts’. She also tends not to back down from a fight and can be particularly stubborn in that respect. Whether defending friends or her honour, she’ll do her best to face down whatever opponent it is; however, she’s not particularly trained in fighting as while strong, lacks the finesse a warrior would possess.
Other: She likes to keep her hands busy and will work on small excavator projects for people.

[ Introduction ] __ [ Rider Profile ] __ [ Dragon Profile ] [ Firelizards ] __ [ Known People ] __ [ Roleplays & Plots & Plans ] Gold Sharath Amelia! Queen Sharath waits for you! Name: Sharath Age: 5-9 Months Gender: Female Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual Rank: Weyrling / Queen History: Right out of the shell, Sharath was a commanding and unforgettable presence. She took her time to inspect the candidates and found them all lacking then forced the entire gathering of people at the hatching bow to her glory. Innately aware of the prestige of her rank and the role she is to fill, she is a born leader but possessed of several glaring faults. Once she commanded Amelia to come join her on the sands, she hissed and spat at the fighting hatchlings before they found their way out of the Hatching. During the Hatching Feast that soon followed, the two made quite the impression on the Weyrwoman and Weyrleader, complete with temper tantrum from the young gold when she learned she could not sit with the ranking officials for dinner. A meeting of the riders followed and the dinner went relatively well. Sharath grew quickly and once Amelia sorted out the how-to portion of taking care of a dragon, was in good health. Small for a queen, however, she’s seemed to have grown up on par with the bronzes and browns so far. Amelia has not noticed the difference, or thinks it normal, but Sharath did and it irks her something fierce. She will always be small in relation to the other golds and it feeds deep-seated insecurity and ambition. More then once she’s caused trouble for people, even when the encounter has gone well, and has proven to be quite the handful for her rider. It is simply a good thing that Amelia is as strong-willed and stubborn as Sharath. Appearance: Primarily a buttery, rich gold, her underside is a lighter hue with a slash of dull amber down her throat. Her wing membranes echo the colour of her throat and a thick stripe of the same colour as her belly runs from nose tip to tail tip along her back. Personality: Sharath is one passionate gold. Her infinite ambition means she'll never fall short of incentive to keep going, come what may. Ever assured she's one step ahead of her associates at all times (including her rider), it would take the most overwhelming problem possible to make her hesitant. To leave her speechless, you'll need something no less than devastating. Negative commentary would never influence her; not at this age. She never forgets her status and she refuses to overlook it. Sharath also forgets a queen without content followers isn't much of a queen at all. If someone disagrees with her, she's outraged they would dare. She'll throw a fit over the matter and accuse them of going against her out of jealousy. In Sharath's world, being gold makes you right. Opinions that don't line up with hers she undermines without realizing she's doing it. What do you mean you don't think the exact same way she does? You, madam, are ridiculous! Greatness will only bless Sharath if she learns it takes a queen to lead a Weyr, but many dragons to build one. Else she meet with disaster. Her rider can help her with this, but it won't be an overnight ordeal. The sooner this problem is addressed the better. Sharath gets what Sharath wants, and Sharath wants her own Weyr. She doesn't care if it's High Reaches or not; she'll be glad to move or even establish a brand new place all together if need be. The idea of failing doesn't frighten her into behaving more courteously, because as far as she's concerned, failure is not an option. She's willing to risk anything and do anything to make her dream a reality, and she expects her rider to be happy going along for the ride. After all, Sharath is so loyal and would not let any living soul utter a single bad word about Hers. She will even speak directly to another rider if she feels they're insulting her own. Who, don't forget, is a goldrider. Everyone is a hypocrite. Yes, Sharah, even you. This gold has no problem insulting other queens or their riders out of spite. Taking orders from the Weyrwoman's dragon (and having other dragons take her orders over Sharath's) annoys her something fierce. The older she gets, the more diligent her rider will need to be. This is a larger than life dragon who needs to be kept under control or both this pair will face serious consequences. Not much of the population will think far enough into her trouble-making to realize Sharath's bitterness toward her fellow gold is no more than a feeble attempt to compensate for her small size. She will be more than ready to rise by time she's old enough, but only under the condition the male she deemed worthy to catch her does so. She takes flight with one dragon in mind and one dragon only. Her opinion will not be swayed by anyone, not even her rider. The dragon she's partial to may be a bronze or a brown. Sharath is not picky about colors as long as everyone knows she's the most important one. In fact, her best friend (other than Hers, of course), is Green Redfith. Sharath is able to separate the actions of rider and dragon, recognizing they are individuals rather then viewing them as an equally responsible unit. As such, one of the two may offend her but she will not lash out at both – only the one she considers offensive. She’s not easy to get along with but as long as one remembers their place, she seems content to be ‘pleasant’ enough. Other:Sharath wanted a rider who didn't really want her. It might sound odd, but she's smart enough to know that she's important, and it's hard to be sure when someone wants her for her and when someone just wants her because she's a gold. Amelia displayed contempt for her actions during the hatching which, interestingly enough, helped her make her final decision. Amelia may not know as much about the Weyr as other candidates (especially given she's not a candidate), but Sharath considers this a good thing. It means her opinion will be less biased if this gold decides something needs to change. She is, it seems, following in the footsteps of Dorath. Amelia will never have to worry about anyone overlooking her again, but the fact that she was okay with it in the past intrigues this little queen. Her rider is willing to talk to anyone as an equal, and this is something Sharath knows she needs to learn. Of course, her temper delights the queen as well. She wouldn't want a complete pushover anymore than she'd want a gold digger. Pun intended. Finally, Amelia seems an ideal choice. An unlikely goldrider for an unlikely gold. People underestimate Sharath for her size and Amelia because of her bloodline, but from now on that's all going to change.

[ Introduction ] __ [ Rider Profile ] __ [ Dragon Profile ] [ Firelizards ] __ [ Known People ] __ [ Roleplays & Plots & Plans ] Sar and Ulysses were gifts to Amelia as a congratulations from her parents and, due to a miscommunication, the team of excavators she used to work with. Originally intended to only be a single egg, when two were obtained none saw a reason to make Amelia pick and so gave her both. Name: Ulysses Colour: Blue Personality: Attentive, relaxed, and incredibly curious, Ulysses follows both Amelia and Sharath around as if they were truly queens. A bit of a thief, he'll gather shiny objects of the generally similar colour to Sharath and offer them to the gold, or bits of shiny rocks and gems (when he finds them) for Amelia. One might even say he spends his time courting the pair. Name: Aestaesar ('Sar for short) Color: Green Personality: Flirty, flightly, and active, 'Sar is a busy little green whose attention is hard to hold for more then five minutes. Attracted by motion and scent, she'll often dart off to explore whatever caught her attention until something else comes along to catch her curiosity. Nothing, however, catches her attention more then males - human males, dragon males, and especially male flits. To this end she'll investigate them and almost seem to rate them, sending back impressions and images of 'good' or 'bad' to Amelia relating to her judgement of them. Ulysses, unfortunately, rates as bad for some reason and she practically ignores the blue when they're together. ---------------------------------- Nebulos and Altaica were accidental impressions. During her chores one day, she was pausing for a snack when a particularly mean-spirited golden flit had attacked her - startling her greatly. Sharath had ordered the little queen back to where she'd been with venom in her voice and the flit had both cowered and fizzed on top of a clutch of eggs - among them a golden flit egg. Tucked away in a sandy, quiet corner of the Weyr, it wasn't surprising the clutch had gone unnoticed. Then the clutch began to hatch and Amelia was accosted by several hungry flits - though only two managed to snag her meal from her. Thus impressing, she ended up with two newly hatched flits to add to her current two. Name: Nebulos Colour: Bronze Personality: Agile of body and serious in nature, Nebulos very rarely sets down if he can circle and fly. Only after being told to remain on the ground will he settle and even then, it is without fail on Amelia's shoulder or head. He avoids Sharath because she tried to claw him when he tried to use her a roost. Protective and sensitive, he picks up on the emotions of Amelia and Sharath quite easily and should be upset, he switches into protector mode and tries to harass whatever's being upsetting into leaving. Name: Altaica Colour: Gold Personality: Playful, pleasant, and patient, Altaica is very laid back and more interested in letting others do as they wish. Observant, she's almost like a third pair of eyes for the rider and dragon duo. She almost seems to take more pleasure in watching then interacting. ---------------------------------- Name: Docili Colour: Brown Personality: In word, docile. He's laid back, hard to work up, patient, and otherwise incredibly lazy. Of the five, Docili is the most likely to be found on Amelia's shoulder at any given time - he also prefers to walk when he can, disliking the monotony of circling in a confined area. He's the homemaker of all Amelia's flits and is usually in her weyr fiddling with things as he has a strange compulsion to put things in order. Able to grasp simple lessons easily, Amelia can and has shown him the order of things and he will do his best to maintain that order. When he can't or someone he doesn't know enters, he gets quite distraught and essentially acts as an alarm - pestering Amelia until she investigates.

[ Introduction ] __ [ Rider Profile ] __ [ Dragon Profile ] [ Firelizards ] __ [ Known People ] __ [ Roleplays & Plots & Plans ] Friends and Foes Amelia - Goldrider of Sharath Mine, you are strong, confident, and sociable. I see in you such promise - we will go far together, of this I am certain.Sharath - Gold to Amelia You were unexpected but nonetheless a very welcome part of my life. I can beyond your huff and queenly attitude and your loyalty and drive inspire me even if you're still inept and practicing your rights. I want learn what goals you've clearly got outlined in your mind.J'lin - Greenrider of Deprith I like him. He's helpful and earest it seems.Presumptuous little prat. To assume Mine knows nothing of the Weyr! Hmph. Deprith needs to better train you.Deprith - Green to J'lin You're a smart one, I'll give you that. And patient and demanding. I hope you do not break J'linI approve you and your attempts to educate Yours on the currents of respect and propriety. I enjoy speaking with you.R'ysan - Greenrider of Regdeth He's stubborn and willful but not unreasonable. I thought our time doing chores together was productive in addressing the problem the Lesson sparked. Hopefully we cna become friends.I am not overly fond of this one. Amelia likes to associate with the difficult ones, I think, and he is most difficult.B'shir - Bronzerider of Sakneth I'm not too sure what to think of him. He seems nice enough but he doesn't really have an expressions! I think there's more there then what the surface shows but I don't think it's anything sinister. He is respectful, for the most part, and I do not mind him. Why, however, does Mine only seem to interact with the boys?Sakneth- Bronze to B'shir In a word? Haughty. Another word? Casanova. That he only speaks to those he finds worthy is... odd, and he figures he should run the Weyr and... well, I don't particularly like him.THis bronze is... acceptable. He knows I am worth talking to even if he oversteps his boundaries sometimes. It will be important to watch him as we grow into maturity. As of now, my opinion is neutral.more to come

[ Introduction ] __ [ Rider Profile ] __ [ Dragon Profile ] [ Firelizards ] __ [ Known People ] __ [ Roleplays & Plots & Plans ] Before Impression[A Synergy of Professions] - Amelia and Camryn - Amelia meets an up and coming Engineer down in the tunnels while she's learning about explosives and tunnel construction.Impression[Song Clutch Hatching] - Many People - Amelia attends the Hatching expecting to learn and be entertained by the newly hatching dragons. Instead of this simple plan of action, however, she is witness to several maulings, the birth of dragons with very strong personalities, and finds herself face to face with a young blue that rejects her. The greatest surprise, however, is when a presumptuous new queen demands she joins her on the sands. This is the time when Amelia Impresses Gold Sharath.[Song Clutch Hatching Feast] - Many People - Amelia and her new lifemate, Gold Sharath, attend the Hatching Feast and have their first encounter with both D'astel and Luci. The leadership of the Weyr does not recognize her and she gets the first taste of recognition. Abuzz with excitement and optimism, she and Sharath enjoy themselves once they're directed to the Weyrling's Table to eat with the rest despite Sharath's outburst at being denied a seat at the head table. After Impression[Dragonhide Care 101] - Amelia/Sharath and J'lin/Deprith - Amelia is having trouble figuring out just what her duties as a Weyrling consist of and 'how to' for most of the chores. More familiar with the workings of mines then weyrs, she gets help from J'lin to better take care of Sharath's hide. Besides a small altercation where Sharath was offended by an innocent comment of J'lin's the four get along well.[Weyrling Lesson] - Many People - It is the last lesson that Sharath and Amelia will be attending before they switch to private lessons with Weyrwoman Luci. R'ysan speaks out against the temporary Weyrlingmaster, D'astel, and Amelia dresses him down for it. The two get into an argument that might have ended amicably had Sharath not chosen to defend Hers. The altercation lands R'ysan and Amelia with three straight days of constant chores and the rest of the class with lecture at dawn the next day.[We were the victims. We were the culprits.] - Amelia and R'ysan - In the days that follow the Weyrling Lesson, Amelia is forced with work with R'ysan. While the start is a bit stiff, they eventually feel each other out and decent conversation takes place. Amelia learns R'ysan isn't a stuck up a** and R'ysan learns Amelia isn't as haughty as Sharath might suggest. Amelia believes she'd made at least one friend among the weyrlings that has nothing to do with her future rank.[Getting to Know the Public] - Amelia/Sharath and B'shir/Sakneth - Amelia runs into B'shir on her way to get treats for Sharath and the two stop to talk. Their dragons also converse and it comes to light that Sakneth only speaks to those he finds worthy of his attention. The fact amuses Amelia but sparks suspicion in Sharath who despises people that see only her colour and size and seek to capitulate on her importance. Sakneth's inborn sense of superiority is sensed by Sharath and the two quickly grow irritated with one another. Amelia and B'shir wisely separate their dragons before irritation can develop into something more.[Beware the Cyborg] - Amelia/Sharath and A'ram/Rath - On their way to get food, again, Sharath and Amelia encounter A'ram and his brown Rath. It turns out Sakneth and B'shir are overdue for training and Sharath exerts her influence to command Sakneth to come and not be so late. A genial exchange occurs but when A'ram suddenly withdraws from the conversation, both Sharath and Amelia find it off-putting.[Steps to Remember] - Amelia/Sharath and Zacharai - While wandering the tunnels that Amelia grew up in, the pair are drawn to the kitchens where their appearance startles the workers. The distraction causes Sharath to knock into a young man and this sparks a conversation. Flights are discussed and Amelia's ignorance on the topic becomes apparent while Sharath seems to sense it's just another thing that's special about her. Ever confident, the dragon is not afraid of her future even if it makes Amelia nervous. In Progress[Girl Power!] - Amelia/Sharath and K'ae/Lofrewth - In a rare moment of carefree enjoyment, Sharath and Amelia are out enjoying the sunshine and encounter green Lofrewth and her rider. In Progress[A Friendly Gathering] - Amelia/Sharath and L'thor/Raith - Plagued by itching but with the Weyrling Barrack's stores running low, Amelia is forced to seek out the larger store of the oil used to maintain dragons' hides. She encounters L'thor and while his dragon is pleasant enough to Sharath, he seems to resent authority - authority Amelia doesn't even think she has yet. Sharath, for her part, makes an attempt to be nice despite the itching that irritates her to no end. When it becomes apparent that L'thor has reasons to dislike authority, it inspires thoughtfulness in Amelia and they part with her thinking on how to ensure conditions remain favourable for all the riders.
[Sunset with the Dragons] - Amelia/Sharath and Jericho - Amelia has another bauble to return but when Jericho happens by, she finds her 'target' has come to her rather then the other way around. The exchange sparks a conversation and Amelia leads Jericho back to their weyr where she shows him Ulysses' little hoard.
[Frustrating Firelizards] - Amelia/Sharath and Panata - Panata's little tail-chasing brown flit wakes Sharath and Amelia in the kitchen commons. However, despite Sharath being irate at the waking, and the subsequent squabbling and chatter of the firelizards Amelia's accumulated, the gold settles into a neutral mood. Panata comes across as a particularly shy individual but a relatively nice person.
[Joke's on You!] - Amelia/Sharath and Uuni/Makereth - Uuni and Makereth set their sights on Amelia and Sharath as the next target in their never ending quest for jokes. Luring the golden pair into a sort of tea time, Amelia and Sharath soon realize their drinks have been spiked and Amelia's ability to speak becomes impaired due to the numbing effect of the drug used. This does not go over well with either Amelia or Sharath but it is the dragon who, as usual, reacts the most strongly - going so far as to threaten Uuni and order Makereth about. It ends badly, with both parties leaving in bad moods.
[Admit It, You're Crazy.] - Amelia/Sharath and Uuni/Makereth - Amelia and Uuni work out their problems - mostly by Amelia and Sharath apologizing. The apology does not sit well with the proud gold but she does it and Amelia is grateful that Uuni does not hate her. The four end up going to lunch together, and Amelia hopes their friendship will ease the pressure that blossomed after the latest incident.
[Bite Me] - Sharath, Sakneth, and Haath - Haath tears apart Wherries but doesn't make way for Sharath when the gold comes to feed. Sharath seems relatively unaffected by the green's refusal to make way but Sakneth is greatly offended. The two end up arguing and Sharath intervenes. It doesn't go so well and she ends up frustrated and making both the bronze and the green more upset.

I talked with Sharath today like R'ysan suggested. It was... interesting. Sharath isn't really all that bad, not at all, and I've come to lover her even more. Thing is, she really doesn't care too much about the other colours... they're just other dragons to her - subjects, yes, but not... vermin. Well, at least as long as they don't question her authority she's fine.
Golds though... she ranted and raved about Dorath, using my memories to make her points which all really just sounded like childish excuses to me. If I didn't know better, I'd swear she was intimidated by the other gold. She keeps comparing herself to Luci's lifemate and saying she can do just as well if not better.
I don't know, I love Sharath. To start, I wasn't sure... but I feel her insecurities in a way I haven't felt anyone else's and it's a surprising revelation to know this oh-so-confident Goldy (as R'ysan calls her) is very sensitive.
It was funny... after a while I managed to pull what was bother her out of her and she said something about size. I don't really understand... Sharath's so big already! And nobody's told me what her size should be so.... I'm not overly concerned. I've just been cherishing the time that I've been able to actually hug and wrestle my gold before she gets too big.
I'm pretty sure we've come to some sort of understanding, and Sharath promised to at least try to reign her temper in but I don't know how well that'll go over. She has every right to demand respect and to fight for it - that is something I do not disagree with. Just because I am a goldrider or she was born with golden hide doesn't give everybody the right to treat her like crap. She may be high strung, but I won't let anyone bad-mouth her. If others can be proud of Theirs, by shards can I be proud of Mine.

So... my parents gave me a firelizard egg as a congratulations kind of gift for the Impression. And even though it was late, I really really appreciate the gesture. They said they'd been saving the marks for it for when I'd obtained a master rank in Excavation but... now that that dream's kind of distant, they wanted to do something special for my becoming a junior weyrwoman.
It also turns out, however, that my comrades and peers and students also had the idea and while my parents had spoken to everyone, there was some kind of miscommunication. Instead of everybody just getting behind that one egg my parents bought, they pooled their money and bought a second egg to give me. While funny, I am touched everyone would want to do this for me... I've grown up with all these people and I'm kind of sad that I won't be able to go down the same path as them but they've made it clear I'm always welcome to come back and help out when I'm able.
I definitely am going to take them up on that offer.
Amendment to Entry The flits finally hatched! I'm proud mother to a beautiful green and a striking blue! They're so pretty and cute! They're very little, and they like to sit on my shoulders like book ends. I named the green Aestaesar and the blue Ulysses because those names sounded strange and fun. Ulysses is really attentive and he keeps chirping at Sharath, almost doting while my green seems pretty air-headed. It's fun to watch them play.
And Sharath doesn't seem to mind them either! She's kind of taken charge of them too... they listen to her almost as much as they listen to me. I'm so glad she likes them, it would be difficult if she didn't.

I have... five draconic creatures Impressed to me now... It's so chaotic! I swear I didn't mean to impress two more flits! It just... sort of happened. Sae, my green, was chittering away angrily enough to be distracting and I followed to her this isolated cove thinking something had gotten stuck - she kept flashing images of this dark little hollow at me - and then I got attacked by a golden flit!
Sharath nearly bit the poor thing in revenge and my flits weren't helping either, their presence was really bothering the little queen. She'd apparently laid a clutch in this cubby and they were hatching. I only found that out after I'd tried luring the mother away from the nest so I could see what was going on... when two baby flits came racing out of the hole and practically tried to eat my fingers. It was almost like they were racing - I don't know.
All I know is that I ended up Impressing siblings - a bronze and a gold - and getting chased out by the gold would was not particularly happy that I disturb her little ones.
I didn't even realize I'd impressed the two babies until they both protested my absence very very loudly and started running around looking for me, broadcasting images of rocks as if that might help them. I felt really bad at that point and went back to get them - much to Sharath's annoyance.
She... isn't too fond of the little gold but she considers the bronze curious. It amuses her, I think, to know she's a good deal bigger then any of the flits that she now shares space with.
I name the bronze Nebulos because he has little clouds dotting his hide and the gold Altaica because I think that's a queenly name.
And, as long as Altaica avoids getting too close to Sharath, I think everything will be fine. I just have to get to used to all this noise in my head!

When the numbing agent had finally worn off and Amelia could properly speak, she had returned the item her blue flit had pinched and immediately escorted Sharath back to their weyr. The pair was disgruntled, easily seen from the slouch of Amelia’s broad shoulders the whirl of angry colours in the queen’s eyes. Huffing, the queen dropped down onto her belly and curled up on her dais like the queen she thought she was.
As far as she was concerned, she wanted nothing more to do with uppity blues and their uppity riders, thanks. Far too presumptuous! Who in their right mind would endanger another dragon’s rider? It was entirely irresponsible and rage-inducing. She’d been right in her anger this time, could feel it from Amelia when before there’d be disapproval thrumming between them now there was… exasperation. Which wasn’t all that better but she needn’t feel bad for angering Hers.
Flopping down beside the huffy gold, Amelia frowned at her, “So, what exactly, was that about? You need to stop reacting so violently, Sharath… it’s not becoming and it’s counterproductive.”
I will defend myself and you from those who would naysay us. What she did was wrong – even you think that – and I spoke up. I cannot let anyone endanger you, Mine. No one. I don’t care who they are – you’re the most important person, I know that and they should know that too. Clearly that bluerider did not. The gold responded, tossing her head and shrugging slightly as if the answer was obvious.
Amelia sighed, “People disagreeing with us is not wrong, Sharath. It’s good – it shows they think beyond their nose. “ Prodding the gold’s nose to emphasize the point she smiled, “What I mean, though, is what did she say that made you so angry?”
Oh. The young queen snorted and frowned, drawing lips back in a grimace. Something like… ‘Oh for ******** sake, you rude, egostical, a*****e of a gold. I'm not another dragon that you can order around. Just suck it up. Amelia's not hurt, I had no intention of hurting her, so take your head out of your a** and maybe you'll see why most people don't listen you yet.’ She was incredibly rude. The rest of what Uuni had said had apparently already been dismissed by the ambitious gold, the ‘important’ part sticking in her memory.
“…Oh.” The goldrider shook her head, “Well, you can be rude and egotistical, you know. Very rude and egotistical… it’s part of that thing I was trying to explain to you. To make friends, and earn respect, remember? When you lash out like that, people get afraid and they don’t trust you. You’re hardly small and fluffy, Sharath.”
She was out of line, Mine. I spoke up. Why is that wrong? The gold settled her head in the rider’s lap and whuffled, honestly confused. Why was it always so wrong for her to voice her opinion? She had every right to!
“It wasn’t wrong, speaking up wasn’t wrong. Acting out was. See the difference? You didn’t need to threaten her.” The Weyrling pet her dragon’s head as she spoke, trying to find a way to articulate an answer Sharath would understand. Sometimes the queen was so incredibly dense… things like criticism just went right over top of her head, “I think you scared her, Sharath. If you were angry at me like that, I would be frightened too. You’re so quick to act… to demand. That’s one of your biggest faults, I think.”
Her tail thumped against the ground then as the gold rumbled, People have to listen to me – to us. I am a Gold and you are a Goldrider. We outrank nearly all the other people here, and are more important. Without me, there is no weyr. I am right to defend you, they are wrong to hurt you, and I will be angry when do – especially when they try to poison you.
“See? That’s where you’re wrong, Sharath.” Amelia shook her head, cutting into the dragon’s speech, “You’re important yes, but you’ll be all alone if you don’t have anyone who wants to be there for you. Do you want to be alone? I don’t… I don’t know a whole lot about the weyr but I’m trying my hardest not to screw up too badly. It’s like you expect everything and everyone to fall in to place just because you want them to.”
What’s wrong with that? Sharath replied testily, lifting her head to eye her rider.
“What’s wrong? That’s being a tyrant, not a leader. Nobody wants to follow someone they’re unable to count on.” Amelia replied shortly, shaking her head. Why was this so difficult to understand?
They can count on me. I won’t fail – ever. They should know that. Sharath grumbled, flickers of annoyance playing across her eyes.
“They might be able to count on you, but how do they know that when you’re too busy trumpeting at them and ordering them around to do what you want?” She returned, exasperated, “And, Sharath, everybody fails at some point. You’ve already failed but you can’t see that, can you? You’re gold, yes, but you’re failing to make lasting, strong connections. In fact you’re undermining other people without even realizing it and I keep trying to help you and fix those mistakes!”
The shout and criticism made the gold start and shift back, hurt whirling in her eyes and resonating across their link. What do you want? I’m doing everything you asked – watch my temper, watch this, watch that! I am a Gold! A Queen, Amelia! I deserve what Dorath gets without trying!
Rising because she couldn’t look Sharath in the eye anymore, Amelia frowned, “I want you to actually understand the difference between a tyrant and leader, Sharath. Dorath gets what she does because she’s earned it! Respect, friendship, leadership… all of it because she and her rider have worked for it. I don’t disagree with what you want, Sharath, but I sure as Shards don’t agree with always been a brat about it.” She didn’t know much about Dorath’s history but she needed to make a point, knew Sharath was using the Senior Queen as a benchmark for whatever reason.
What do you consider a leader that is not a tyrant then, Mine!? Sharath bugled loudly, obviously troubled by this conversation. She didn’t like the things she was hearing and she couldn’t just ignore them… not when they were being said by Hers!
“What I consider a good leader? Someone who’s genuinely interested in others. Someone who doesn’t abuse their power. Someone who’s willing to listen and tries to be a good role-model. A leader… is, well, someone who makes a positive difference.” Amelia responded, her voice rising to be heard over the dragon’s rumbling. “Are you listening!?”
Shoving at the gold, the weyrling made a grab for Sharath’s head and missed as the queen lifted her head away to look elsewhere, trying her hardest not to pay attention. She was all those things and more!
“SHARATH! FOR SHARD’S SAKE LISTEN TO ME!” Yelling angrily, Amelia clambered up the gold’s shoulder and caught her head, forcing the queen to look at her, “Listen alright! Shards.” Heaving a breath, she waited a moment for Sharath to focus properly on her. “I know you can be those things… and you’re getting there, but you’re not there yet. You can’t just arbitrarily say you’re this or that, when you… really aren’t. There’s times for being sure of yourself like that but not always, get it? People don’t listen to you because you’ve got your head so hard in the future, you forget to take the intermediate steps. Understand?”
Sharath rumbled, confused, but nodded. It was hard to ignore Hers when she was yelling. If I can be like that… why aren’t people treating me like I am? I deserve it, don’t I?
“You’re in the middle, hun.” Her voice had fallen back down to normal levels and she sighed, “You need the dragons to make the Weyr. You might lead it, but if you don’t have the support of the others… things will only go very badly. We’ve got more work to do because more people expect more of us than anyone else. But! I know you can do it. Remember that you can be the Queen you dream of – with your own Weyr and everything – but you need to get there first.”
Letting go of Sharath’s head, she smiled as she patted her lifepartner’s nose, “Which means starting at the beginning, Sharath. Start by making actual friends and not just gathering minions. Got it?”
The gold stared at her rider for a moment, obviously digesting what Amelia had said, and eventually nodded. To be a good leader, I must be a good friend?
Not quite what she was looking for, but it was a certainly something and a huge improvement over doing it because Amelia had asked, “More or less – it’s definitely a start. You’ll understand better as we go along, hmn?”

Six Month Update
_____On Lessons with Luci_______________________________ Amelia has been applying herself admirably and takes what Luci says into account but is not above asking probing questions about the why of things. As a student, she's pretty good with managing primary resources and to some extent people but the subject of domestic management seems to bore her.
Sharath is... a difficult student. Amelia tries to reign in her dragon but between trying to concentrate and listening to the private jabs Sharath is prone to making, it's difficult. Every once in a while, she'll seemed interested in something - do remarkably well in the exercises - and then laspe back into defiant boredom. It's obvious she has potential... but her attitude of expecting it all is proving to be a rather large obstacle that Amelia knows all too well needs to be chipped away.
Amelia's smart. She understands concepts and numbers and trends easily, and she gets how managing people works. But accounting for the politics is something that often goes over her head because she's so open to talking to anyone. Her rank is also, at times, hard for her grasp. She can easily set a schedule, mark out inventory (and manage it fairly decently) but social image and ensuring she acts as expected is... definitely not a strong suit of hers. She's who she is and that's how it is, Sharath doesn't help because she encourages this individuality and outside-the-box thinking.
Sharath is potentially an incredibly effective leader. She's good at the things she actually applies herself to but, again, that attitude gets in the way. And, it should have come out a couple times by now, she's got a vendetta against other golds. She seems them as threats for some reason and no amount of scolding or punishment seems to get that out of her head. She's not prejudiced against the other colours, doesn't abuse her position (much), hasn't been raised spoiled due to Amelia's diligent hand... but her innate sense of self-import holds her back. That fine line between tyrant and a beloved leader is not something she yet grasps, though it's obvious she pines for the latter.
_____In General with the Weyr_______________________________ Amelia's been working her butt off at trying to catch-up with knowing the Weyr and getting the Weyr to know her. It's been a bit of a double edged sword since she and Sharath are still feeling each other and the gold's, well, high strung on being the Queen. The goldrider's earnest, most of the time, but can be prone to being scatterbrained simply because of the amount of work she has going - it's not uncommon for her to flit from one thing to another.
Amelia stops to chat as she can and tries to resolve resoundingly public mishaps. Among the most noteable instances of her and Sharath getting themselves in hot water are: the incident during the ORP Lesson where Sharath and Amelia spoke against R'ysan and in favour of the Weyrleader; and where Uuni and Makereth tried to pull a prank on Sharath and Amelia but it... blew up and Sharath (still) believes that Makereth tried to poison hers. They've since worked it out... but Sharath's blow up was something of a spectacle.
Otherwise, other assumptions can include a general attempt at being a decent goldrider, though her ability to lead is still very much in the fledgling stage. Amelia's willing to speak to everyone and anyone and is sometimes troubled when her rank outweighs her friendliness. It's probably also well known she is slowly learning to get a handle on Sharath and while Sharath seems to be 'toning her attitude down', she's still very much Sharath the Gold.
Oh, Goldy and Numbutt both really really annoy Sharath - for reason relating to her more public outbursts.
Amelia has also acquired 5 flits, one of each colour, and always seems to be returning items her blue has pinched. Again, she's training the blue but the going's slow.
As far as friends go, she's taken to talking to J'lin a lot, and is on friendly terms with R'ysan. Amelia says Uuni's her friend but they're rarely seen together. She's also been seen with B'shir and asking advice of the older riders. Over all, however, it doesn't seem like she's favouring any one person over another or that she has a core group of friends.
Amelia and Sharath are also frequently seen with the Weyrwoman for their private lessons but it's not hidden that she likes to know what goes on in the normal lessons as well.
Specifically for Sharath... she's able to separate rider and dragon and considers them individuals for whatever's going on. She can be mad at one but not the other. Her haughtiness hasn't really subsided and she's definitely still as ambitious as ever - her goal to lead is well known by now, but her tendency to expect such a thing to just happen is probably also rather infamous. Still, as long as no one tries to insult Hers or insinuate a Weyr won't be hers, she's generally a decently well-behaved presence.
When Sharath has a fit, it's not uncommon for Amelia to use both mental communication and physicality to get her dragon to pay more attention to her then the current target as a means of neutralizing the situation. It works fairly well.
Quote: Summary: Amelia's a good natured person, if a little lost the whole 'be a goldrider!' thing and is trying to live up to the responsibility of the rank. She doesn't seem the type to abuse her position but she's also still not a genius about such matters - aka, she's still learning. Sharath, is well, Sharath. She's getting better and there has been improvement since her hatching but she's still passionate and still ambitious. She does not discriminate between colours and does not use her authority overly often. It should be plain, at this point, she has a huge amount of potential - if Amelia can help her dragon acheive that potential. Also, Sharath is now more or less half-grown. Amelia's head is... about even/little below her shoulder. She's very much showing the size of her colour - though her growth will slow down in later adolescence and her small size for a gold will be more apparent.

Weyrling Graduation.
Well, it's not really a graduation so much as it's a promotion from 'you don't know what you're doing' to 'you better know what you're doing'. It's a welcome change, I must admit. Sharath is beginning to learn to fly and we'll be given our own Weyr soon, which is great. She's really starting to fill the room and while it's not crowded, she's also more of an adult than a baby.
Sharath in the air... is amazing. She's pretty awkward right now, with learning to take off and all that. I can't wait until I can fly too! It will be so amazing.
I've learned a lot in Lessons and while I don't think I know everything, I'm pretty sure I'm making progress. Hopefully, anyway. Maybe Luci will give me an update and tell me where I'm at - it's kind of hard considering I'm the only member in the class. I kind of miss the other classes for that reason - there's nothing to compare to.
Sharath's... evened out a little, but she's still as ambitious as ever. The line between tyrant and leader is still pretty abstract for her, but she's behaving better now - thankfully. Hopefully this will continue, I'm certainly not going to ease up. If I let her, Sharath will end up horribly spoiled and I don't think I could respect her even if I loved her then.
To the future!

Once the Quarantine let them out and Amelia, much to her relief, had been given a clean bill of health, she'd hurried out into the open air and very nearly collapsed onto Sharath's leg. She was tired, dirty, and hungry - she hadn't eaten anything in the gathering after D'astel had fallen ill. And Sharath, as loyal as any dragon was to their rider, promptly picked the goldrider up by the fabric of his trousers and shirt and carted her back to their weyr without a second thought.
Amelia was Hers, shardit! How dare they keep her from Hers!
The goldrider had managed to calm the dragon enough that she wouldn't actively block the entrance but after a few rounds of argument, she stopped trying to get Sharath to lay down somewhere other then around her. In the end, she'd curled up in the nest of golden limbs the dragon had created, falling asleep while the jittery and equally tired Sharath watched over her until her own eyes grew heavy and she drifted off to sleep as well.
Much of the next day was spent dozing, with Sharath snarling at anyone who dared come near, if any. When Amelia had woken, it was slowly, as if from a deep slumber, and the ache of sleeping on rock made her back protest the early afternoon stretches.
Then came the news. They would not be staying in High Reaches while the sickness was investigated... they would be transferred to some place called Ghenza. She had no idea what that was, another Weyr perhaps, but it didn't help matters.
Sharath, needless to say, had not taken the news well and protested the very idea.
It was only after a long argument that Amelia was finally able to get Sharath to see the important of leaving. If they did not, after all, and all three of High Reaches' golds perished... the Weyr would fall into chaos. They were the back-up for the time being and needed to be protected... seeking refuge in Ghenza was apparently what Luci thought best.
And so, disgruntled about being forced from her home and not entirely willing to entrust Hers to the care of others, they'd begun to pack their bags. Amelia still needed to speak to Luci, moreso now - what was her role with the weyrlings, then, when they were gone? Were other riders coming with them? A multitude of questions needed to be answered in Amelia's opinion.
