I wouldn't say so unless the person said they were. Traditionally, most instrumentalists were male, including for 'girly' instruments like flute, clarinet, and the like. Only in the last century has it been moving away from that.
Edit: Our best flute player was a guy. Too bad he left band because he didn't like how things were run... not that I can blame him too much on that one... neutral

Not unless you are.
If people are calling you gay because you're a dude that plays the flute, tell them to bug off because you're one of the many straight guys that plays.

is a girl a lesbian if she plays in low brass?
No, there are two girls in my section (trombone) and they're both straight.
NOw, a boy who plays flute might be gay but its not becuase he plays flute.
I know lots of guys who play flute and they're straight

We didn't have a boy playing flute, we had a manflute. And he was the only one that could flutter tongue. He was not gay in the least.

I certainly wouldn't call a guy gay because he plays a nice instrument. Anyone who does is either obsessed with the word gay, and does not know its real meaning; is completely homophobic and doesn't understand what makes a guy straight or gay or is jealous because many girls find it attractive.

I think sexual preference is up to the person and not to what instrument they play. For example we had a guy play bassoon who was gay. But I also know a guy that played it and was straight. So yeah it is your choice not the instrument.

We had a guy that played the flute in our band, and he was one of the coolest guys I know! And he was straight. It doesn't matter anyway, a person is a person and deserve to be treated as such, no matter what makes them different from you and I. 3nodding

Le_Scratch I wouldn't say so unless the person said they were. Traditionally, most instrumentalists were male, including for 'girly' instruments like flute, clarinet, and the like. Only in the last century has it been moving away from that. Yeah because in a lot of bands I've seen there are big guys playing flute and piccilo and these are really macho guys. So I would say.....NO.
