3.21.06 - Bribes and pet trades are now open. Not that I really think anyone's going to take me up on my bribe prices 83;;
3.15.06 - All lineart is now unisex. All lineart that already has both genders will keep both genders, but all lineart drawn from here on out will represent both male and female. :3 Though if roleplayed enough, some horses may reach a special unique adult stage. :0! (Note: This is not guaranteed!)
2.??.06 - Shop Status: Daim's currently on hiatus due to stress levels and college crap. The shop is closed until she can get more growths done.

Most people have been told at one time or another that there's no such thing as a stupid question. Well, they were wrong -- a stupid question is one who's answer is already covered on the front page. So be sure to read these rules; there's a lot of them, but this is a complicated shop. If you wanna be an owner, you gotta read these.

General Rules

Have an issue with me, Ansata, or DSS in general? PM the shop mule. Do NOT, for ANY REASON, bring your crap in this thread. If you have a complaint, you can act like an adult and handle the situation responsibly.

Flatsale Rules
Even though DSS horses are not roleplay required, most flatsales will consist of roleplaying prompts. The prompt will be posted at a specific time, after which all flatsale entrants will have a set time to respond to it. If the thread is busy, all lurkers and flatsale entrants are asked to quiet down five minutes before the flatsale is to take place, so that entrants have a chance to see the go post with the prompt. Once thirty minutes are up, a STOP post is posted, and all entries submitted on the same minute or before the stop post will be accepted.

No editing will be allowed. Once you post your response, it's over with and no changes can be made to it for any reason whatsoever, so be sure you're posting what you want to enter! We will be taking screenshots as the flatsale goes on to ensure that editing doesn't happen, and any editors will be disqualified.

All flatsale entries must have the phrase "Never beat a dead horse" somewhere in it. This can be above the entry, below the entry, in the entry, wherever.

Auction Rules

Talking about funds is not allowed, in the auction thread or in the main thread. No "You can have my ____ if you need it"; no public planning or anything of the sort. Planning belongs in a .txt or excel file on your hard/flash drive; offering help belongs in a private PM to the bidder.

These are -realistic- horses. They can speak to and understand each other, but your human/Gaian character cannot understand them, and vice versa.

If you have a roleplay-intensive, journal-RP "pet", feel free to roleplay them in here! Horses can interact with them as well. Likewise, your horse can be roleplayed in that "pet"'s journal, but this will not accumulate stat points. (This includes but is not limited to -- Fa'e, Aduthule, Legends of the Tale, Mendels, etc.)

FAQ
Is there a mailing list?
Yep. Just send a PM to Destiny Star Stables Mail to request to be on the mailing list. But, we've found out that we don't really use the thing, so you'll have to stick around to be totally up-to-date.

Are these RP-mandatory?
Nope! However, roleplaying earns you stat points.

What are stats/stat points for?
Mostly, these are for eventing. Eventually, we'll hold events for adult horses -- anything from racing to roping, dressage to jumping. We haven't got a system quite ironed out, yet, though -- plus there aren't enough adult horses to compete!

I got a custom! Do I get to choose my horse's stats?
For the most part, no. All foals start out with 5 stat points allocated at random (yearlings get 10, adults get 15). But if you get a custom, you do get to chose in what attributes the 5/10/15 points will go into.

Do you accept pet-trades?
Yes, but don't be too disappointed if you are turned down. If you would like to offer a pet trade, just PM the mule with the details of your pet. Trades will be custom for custom, or predrawn for predrawn.

Can you make me a custom?
Yep.

Well, yes. BUT. Since there are a thousand "Star"s out there, one might give their horse a show name like "Star Dot Polka" or something. Though if you would really prefer your horse's name to be one word, I'll allow it. In general, have fun with the name, I've seen plenty of plays on words and they're pretty awesome. xD

Can I work here?

Chill. Contrary to popular belief, we do have lives, and we don't have all the time in the world to dedicate to this shop. Deal with it. Think of it this way -- these are realistic horses. They're growing in a realistic timeframe. Daimyn scraps anywhere around 1-10 sketches before she draws something she really likes, and she's picky with what actually makes it to the inked lineart stage. Unless you want crappy art (and want everyone else who has the same breed/gender to have the same crappy art), hush up and let Daimyn work. Stress and anger tends to slaughter her artistic mood.

As you may or may not have guessed already, breeding will play a rather large part in DSS, and I don't think it'll be quite like any other breedables shop so far. ^__^

There are several different breeds of horses that can be created in DSS. I've got several listed on the website, some with details, and I will add new breeds as DSS grows and (hopefully) becomes more popular. Each breed is unique and applies to its genetics and base makeup. For example, a Thoroughbred is very fast - and a Belgian is very strong, and an Arabian has great endurance. Mixing breeds can result in a third breed (not random but specific) and also change the output to contain both mother and father charictoristics. Breeding two of the same breeds more and more will result in a more pure form of it's breed.

Arabians and Belgians are the two foundation breeds, and can only be created by breeding two of the alike breed. From all breeds comes one of these two somewhere in their heritage.

Tip: If you are looking to develop a specific breed, research your breed.. perhaps on google.com and see: origins (location), conformation, and disposition. Think upon this... a Spanish breed with a different Spanish breed might result in a third Spanish breed perhaps... or a "hotblooded" horse and a "coldblooded" horse may result in a "warmblood".

The more pure a particular breed becomes, the more it becomes like it's own unique breed. Example -- the first Thoroughbred born may not have been the fastest, but when bred with other Thoroughbreds it began getting faster as other blood was mixed also bred for speed. And to keep from inbreeding, more fast horses were bred and mixed in to make even a faster Thoroughbred.

Horses that are inbred refers to horses bred together that are closely related. What happens when this does occur is the lack of new blood -- and rounding off of bloodlines, and eventually dud/deformed horses. For example, a horse bred so much for speed will eventually have problems in other areas, like it's tiny brain, misguided attitude, and fragile legs. So if you are trying to get great blood, it is nice to make it pure but new blood can enhance the horse in other ways. But be careful of getting a rounded off or 'glue' horse. A glue horse is one I call that is 'average average average average' and lesser descriptions in it's statistics, or to that extent. To get an all a round supurb horse will take a lot of careful and selective breeding.

Breeding can take place only between an adult stallion and an adult mare. Breeding will produce only one foal. It is possible to get twins, but this is extremeley rare and it endangers both mare and offspring.

Breedings will be 7k (to be paid after the foal is born, by whomever is owning the foal -- fight for it amongst yourselves >> wink . Roleplaying is not required to breed your horses. Stallions can cover more than one mare per breeding "season".

Who're you?
I'm the one that started this whole thing! ^^ I'm the owner of this shop and the ideas within. I draw and shade all the lineart, and Ansata and I both color. I'm 18 and a freshman in college. I'm also female, contrary to the gender of my avatar.

Do you ride, then?
Actually, no -- my grandfather has 4 horses, but I've only ridden a handful of times in my life. Before I started this shop I knew next to nothing about horses, but I did a lot of research, even enrolling in an equine science class my senior year of high school. I consider myself fairly knowledgeable now, even if I don't ride.

What's your favorite breed?
Andalusians, Gypsy Vanners, Friesians and Norwegian Fjord Horses. :3
