It's come to light (again) that there is a severe lack of masculine items in comparison to the girly girl items released on this site just about every time there is a new item release. It isn't a lie or a feeling (as I and others have been accused), it's fact. It's also a fact that not only are there dudes on this site who want a better variety of masculine items, but there are also girls on this site with female avatars who want these items too--and to have the quality of the items be equal on both the male and female avatar bases. And honestly? There is damn good evidence that items that are masculine and of good quality are in high demand; just head on over to the Market Place and check out the prices on the good quality masc items. (Hint: they're expensive.)

Now, there's already a masculine REI / EI request thread floating around in the Site Feedback (and I encourage you to post there and voice an opinion there as well), so I've decided to just make a list of suggestions that could become any type of item--MC, EI, REI, rig items, gold shop items, cash shop items... Whatever.

The most common requests I've seen by people posting in my thread and others' threads have been better facial hair, a better variety of male hairstyles, shoes that are not heeled or make feet tiny, and more sports items (that are not cheerleaders). So let's start with those.

Facial Hair:

__We have a much wider variety of facial hair than we had a year ago, but it's still pretty lacking... Most of the facial hair is dominated by styles unusable by non-silly or non-fantasy themed avatars (18), white or grey (13), or the color black (25). All the other colors are here (a mere 16).
__There should be a variety of colors on top of a variety of styles. I don't see why a few items that include facial hair can't be released as recolors, allowing people who don't use black or grey hair to have facial hair in styles already available. We especially need goatees and mustaches that are not black, white, or grey. We also need modern, non-fantasy beards. For example: 1 2 3 4 5

Hairstyles:

__Oh ... hair. Yes, men can have long hair. Yes men can have bangs. Yes, men can even braid their hair if they want to. But not all guys like long hair, not all guys want bangs, and not all guys wear fancy braids or up-dos. I'm not going to list every single hairstyle but go to this thread to find a good example of hair released in 2012 and how it is gender biased. Note, most of the male hair has, you guessed it, bangs. Also note the lack of color variety compared to the ladies.
__We need some more hairstyles in more colors. Where's the buzz cut? The slicked back gangster hair in colors other than black or white? The long hair that isn't a feminine cut? For example, here's some bros with bangless or long hair: 1 2 3 4 5

Shoes:

__... Shoes. We have a veritable plethora of high heels and foot-binding shoes. There's no way in hell I can list all the male/unisex shoes and all the female/girly shoes because there are hundreds of shoes now. But, at the very least, I'm gonna link you to TekTek lists of shoes from the first 5 pages: male and unisex shoes (48) vs. feminine shoes (83). If you noticed, that's over one billion gold worth of feminine shoes in the first five pages of TekTek. Do you not see the problem here? 83 shoes worth over 1 billion gold versus 48 shoes at about 85 million gold. That is bullshit. Complete and utter bullshit.
__This is where I SHOULD be posting pictures of shoes, but any moron can look at a ******** shoe website and see that there are options for male shoes there. Here, look: Zappos.com.

There are also a lot of masculine items and themes that the site is missing out on, ignoring completely, or have turned into girly girl things with disregard to the masculine counterparts the themes could have.

These themes include:

1. Military (not see-through pants and corsets)
2. Sports (ranging from MMA to basketball to older sports like underground boxing)
3. Bikers
4. Rockers
5. Real punk
6. Non-historical formal clothes
7. Historical formal clothes (not Victorian)
8. Historical clothes
9. Hats that fit male base heads
10. Plain modern clothes; t-shirts, pants, jackets, tank tops, etc
11. Hunting clothes (camo, bright oranges, face paint think Duck Dynasty)
12. Undergarments (we have like three pairs of boxers, but a bunch of panties and bras)
13. Shoes that don't mod feet
14. Shoes that aren't high heels
15. Shoes
16. More tattoos
17. More muscle body mods that include arms and legs, not just torso
18. Body hair in colors other than black
19. More noses (Masquerade noses don't fit male face well, and the gold shop item noses are a bit out there)
20. Shoes
21. Superhero
22. Super villain
23. Cowboys and cowgirls
24. Other western fashions
25. Tribal items
26. Ancient "hunter" type items (think loin cloths, spears, simple bows and arrows)
27. More fantasy clothes (like Lord of the Rings type, including orc clothes)
28. Witch doctor items because that's cool, yo (who doesn't want a skull strapped to your upper arm?)

In the next post, I am going to put item requests from users who post in this thread. So feel free! Please suggest any masculine item you might want (even if it's a masculine item for a girl) and hope that Gaia ends up making some day (soon).

Update:
With the new gold shop update, we got some really nice pants in Global Imports. The "Nomad's Cotton Breeches" are done WELL... And I hate to be nit-picky, but come on Gaia. It's like you're being petty and TEASING us now, as if you said, "well they want pants so ******** them, give them pants in girl colors." The pants look great on the male base but what colors do you make them? Pastel colors. Light pink, light blue, and light green? Nomads in bright pink, baby blue, and mint green pants? The white and cream are ok because those are normal pant colors, but it would have been nice if we had had a regular blue, a regular brown, a darker green, black, and red to mirror the baby blue, cream color, light green, white, and pink.
I just hope we see these pants released during a recolor update, with darker more natural colors. neutral
But overall, thank you for being more gender-balanced with this gold shop update than with the last one.

And maybe more brass knuckles? Don't know how much detailing can be put in such an item, but it'll be nice if the artists can be creative enough to do something different.

I would also like to see stand alone chains to equip to your pants, and maybe more chained wallets? Isn't there only one that costs a bagillion gold?

Edit: We need more suspenders, plus some suspenders that hang off pants, hoodies that layer with jackets (like Leonard from The Big Bang Theory), and more boots that are fashioned after Doc Martens and Timberlans, both done up properly and loosely tied. Also, some metal-plated boots. I think it would also be cool to have wallets to hold in your hand.

Edit 2: Longer versions of this vest. I think they could look cool on male avatars, and I don't think there's anything like this that exists now.

Edit 3: Maybe some sort of metal ear plate/ear cuff? I don't know confused If this is possible, maybe have an ear stretching mod with different types of plugs. They do have those "Ears of Enlightenment" items. I'm sure they can have stretching mods. I keep editing this post. I have too many ideas, lol

I am really really hoping that we get some actual punk items soon. A nice set of mohawks would be awesome. Hell I'd even go for some Mad Max and Doomsday inspired items at this point because well looks like we have more chance of the fantasy type punk than the real punk ... which is rather discouraging. If they do just ... Do. Not. Make. Neon. Pop. Style. Crap. ... and try to pass it off a punk. Make it grungy gritty ripped denim, leather, studded clothing, chains, extreme and near impractical piercings. And also, good-looking, affordable, colourful, punk hair.

This site is severely lacking in proper Morning Dress. Morning dress works for any era in Twentieth Century formal wear for both the male and female avatars. Fifties post war country club party chique theme, morning dress for men. Sixties ultra hip and sleek high end Monte Carlo type casino goers theme, morning dress for men. Eighties elegant British garden wedding theme, morning dress for men. Morning dress fits in with so many formal themes because the style has remained pretty much the same for well over one hundred years. Plus, the individual pieces can be mixed and matched with a lot of other pieces for male avatars to make totally new looks. The vests can be used with the jeans and other coats on the site. They can become casual, business, or formal based on what they're paired with. There's just so much that can be done with morning dress.

I don't have a fancy link to anything, but more savage/barbaric items would be wonderful.
When that new Sabre (Saber) something came out with the Impractical Gaia I was utterly insulted. They took something that could have been a great item, animal bones, fur, and made it so fluffy and feminine.
I then decided to go look up if Gaia had any more actual savage looking items there were masculine, and I really didn't get much of a search at all.
Sure, there's the animal skin loincloths from alchemy, and Oni Set but really? What can you make with a few loincloths? Not much.

Something with animal hides, leather, furs, bones, ect. that isn't feminine and fancy.
Also, more Viking based item. Nordic drinking horns, axes (there is an utter lack of battleaxes on Gaia), shields, horned helms, long masculine hair, ect.

There are lots of men on Gaia, who would like the style or fun cosplay of a uniformed worker.
But the items are far and widely displaced, the gold shop items are poorly done.

A REI, CI, or EI would be great places to fill in some more male masculinity in the styles for me.

Also, I love the Biker ideas. That's something I'd be interested in.

Cowboy items, really done well could be great.

A new line of Suits and Ties would be perfect also. I am tired of the same old dress shirts I get from HR W.

What would be incredible, is to see some full sets of Armor, medieval or more modern. Rendered with the care and attentiveness as these bloody ball gowns the girls get.
Dresses are the nicest items in my opinions. They have the most work and detail.
I want to see this hard work put into things that will make the men just as excited to pour their hard earned gold and cash into.

I know this is supposed to be here for user suggestions but I don't wanna mess up the first post:
Could we get some tribal-type fantasy clothes? They aren't frilly and wouldn't be dresses, so I'm going to consider it a more masculine suggestion so I'm putting it in this thread.
It could be things like feather headdresses that aren't Native American specifically and smaller ones with maybe two or three feathers on just one side, short non-animal print loincloths and long loincloths (we have a few but we need more please!), body paint, and other lovely aspects of things like Aztec, Mayan, African and fantasy tribal type costume?

Nice edit work! I think they could stand to make more body mods but they really need to realize that we don't always want smaller mods. Normal sized to large and then even larger would be nice mods to see more of. I really like changeling for it's arm mods and that they made a new nose for it.
Only thing I would make different would be slightly more normal shaped hands(but not necessarily smaller) and equally bulked leg mods with similarly large feet. All that should come with pecks, abs and chin possibly. It would be ideal if we could equip one at a time or more at once to each person's liking. Also this should be seamless with existing skins. Would be nice to have the option for clothed or non clothed. They should put multiple poses in mods so they don't seem so limiting. 3nodding
You really have a point there though about the flesh toned mods. We don't really have any that are very versatile or match-able. I really like Pietro's hands because they relieve me of some of the abstract shapes my avi was born with.

I'm not sure if these ideas have been suggested by anyone else, but I would like to request these types of items:
- Bodybuilding-themed items - bodybuilding clothing, body mods for poses (I'm not a big fan of body mods but I can see them being very useful with this theme), backgrounds such as gyms and bodybuilding competitions, barbells, dumbells, workout machines, protein shakes, tanning oil, etc.
- Survival/camping-themed items - more clothing in different styles and colours of camo, steel-capped boots, torn/ruined versions of the clothing (for versatility), a puddle of mud/mud of the face, etc.
- Pyjamas - just more pyjamas that are either plain or have a more masculine print and that come in more neutral tones, etc.

Other than that, I would just love to see more of the basics, such as pants and shoes that are separate and aren't body mods. heart

Classy Bow Ties: I thought that item was nice addition to H&R. However, I thought that they could of added more. Along with those, the artists could of thrown in matching vests, pants and shirts that came in lighter shades than the bow ties. I have a female avatar, but I mostly wear pants and not dresses unless the dress item really catches my eye and I can actually use it with what I already have. But, even in real life, I have more of a tailored look when I dress and not lace, frills and bows.

Please, Gaia ... something that looks good and is practical. High to the sky heels and thin skinny leg and foot mods just don't cut it. At least -try- to make more ... can't be all that difficult since you have made good items like that in the past ... decent shoes, decent pant legs, etc. Come on, Gaia ... you can do it!!
