I wonder where HK has been. sad Last post was months ago and no one is in rallytest anymore. I wonder if it's been canned.

Spicy Noob

can't even access Rally anymore, because a socket connection to gaia.blueringdev.com is failing

it would be cool to get an update, even if it's just "no news from HK". even better would be an acknowledgement that it's being shelved.
Any update???

So, as someone has pointed out, I haven't posted in the thread for a while nor have I been inside of Rallytest. I am sorry about that. I think I will type something up to explain that this morning.

Firstly though, I apologize for the interruption of service. Should be fixed now. This was a result of my rather low-tech manual management of certificates. It should be fine again for a while. It's heartwarming that peeps still seem to like and want to use the game app even though its development progress has been paused for some time now.

Many peeps are wondering where I have been and why I have been radio silent about the project for some time now. Well, I will try my best to tell you all and explain that. I feel as though I should stick a preamble in here first and just say I love/loved this project, love all the peeps who visited and were supportive of the game's development, and I also love Gaia. But there are some reasons why I unfortunately felt as though I had to pause development, hopefully temporarily in the end. To avoid a severely long-winded explanation of my complete feelings and thoughts on the topic, I'll try to boil it down to just the most critical point as there is technically afew reasons.

The major motivating reason behind development being paused was that unfortunately development was exceeding the expected 1 month, an insane timeframe I personally set for the project, and was somewhere into month 2 if I recall, and a third month I expect was needed to finish up the current development's pending tasks for what is needed to ship more officially on Gaia, the WebGL client, and the unfortunately lagging behind mobile client. This would have been fine in the end if the project could have become a full-time thing but due to circumstances, this wasn't possible. As painful and sad as this was, it was a likely scenario, but when the time came to manage this result, I was just too sad to break the news to all the lovely peeps I spent time with in Rally. I really didn't know how to explain it, and I honestly did not want to deliver such depressing news. Feelings and sadness aside though, I had to make the very depressing but calculated decision to focus my development time towards other non-Gaia Online-related projects to personally going out of business over the next couple years. For those unaware, I'm an independent developer who was working on this project for Gaia Online.

So, that's mostly the main reason. There are other smaller ones too and some personal reasons, but ultimately it comes down to that. I have been exploring ways to continue the development of the Rallytest tech and project without it severely impacting the development of the project I work on now, as the project I work on now is critical for continuing to develop software independently and would hopefully fund the future continued development of this project and others in the future. Ideally, the source code for both projects could be unified as maintaining and extending two complicated online games at once is quite a task.

Anyway, in short, I miss all of you, and I love all you peeps, and I'm sorry that I wasn't able to get the project to a full release in the short time I was allotted. I still love the project and think it's awesome and could've been more awesome!! I'll try to see what I can do in the future. I don't yet know what I can do though. But I will do my best to keep it online at the very least!

Thanks for the update HK. I think we knew development wasn't going to be continued, so the confirmation brings us a little closure.

Hope your independent pursuits are going well, and hopefully some time/motivation opens up to be focused on this side. Glad to hear from you!
Sad to hear development had to stop, I'm sure the community will understand either way. It's pretty impressive what was available at the time of it being useable. Good luck with your other projects!
Hello! It's been a while since this thread has had a reply but i wanted to say that we still use Rallytest and would love to see an update. A good group of us is in Rallytest right now as I type this actually. about 11 or 12 of us.

Hello friends, I bring some good news. For the past few weeks I undertook a project to majorly overhaul the current client that powers the Rally3D world. This work is now finished and the world is live running on new tech! With that comes afew new features as well.

Version 2.0.126:

* Players can now Jump!

* Players can now form partys/groups to chat between eachother

* Players can now perform many actions/commands by right-click other player's frames (see below)

* Introduced an experimental guild system supporting inviting and guild chat and guild tags

* Reduced the initial client download size by 80%

* Built the client in release which should provide performance improvements over the old client

* Player's locations are saved so you resume where you left off in the client the next time you login

* Added a builtin /emote system which lets players emote in many ways such as /love and /hug. These aren't yet finished to support the Gaia gender settings.

* A significant number of underlying unused RPG features now lay dormant underneath the surface to allow for the creation of awesome Rally3D events

* Client is now capable of downloading worlds on-demand allowing for more worlds and possibilities

* A small amount of features are missing but are planned to be ported and implemented in the new client too.

* And more!

Howdy, Kithub! I missed your update back in August, so even though I'm late, I'm so sorry you had to make such a tough call. It sucks having to put down a passion project, especially when you have an expectant audience. I'm still super impressed with what you managed to accomplish in that brief timeframe.

Really appreciate the new features released today - jumping in particular feels awesome! I just spent the last 10 minutes leaping off of cars and crates lol.

Even though I really appreciate the work happening with AviChat, I definitely prefer this project. Even if it takes months/years for a finalized build to come out, I'm patiently looking forward to it. 3nodding

Thank you for the kind words friend! It was a bummer to have to pause the project but sometime in mid Oct. something aligned tech-wise to make it possible to rebuild the game on top of a new client and possibly continue its development! So I took the leap ^,^. I hope I'll be able to update it more frequently again and I'm happy to hear ya like the project so much!
