Origin of Name: Jubath's name is derived from the scientific name for the cheetah, Acinonyx jubatus.

Inspiration: Cheetah

A member of the subfamily Felinae, of the genus Acinonyx, cheetahs have been kept by nobility for thousands of years. Traditionally used to hunt game, cheetahs show little aggression towards humans. They can be tamed, a lengthy process which can take up to a year, and trained to hunt alongside their human partners. In Egypt, cheetahs were given bejeweled collars, and kept as pets by the Pharaoh and his royal family.

Cheetahs are a large cat capable of purring as the smaller cats do - on inhalation and exhalation. There are only a few of the large cats that are capable of this, such as the cougar and the clouded leopard. They possess an ossified hyoid apparatus, and are therefore capable of purring but not roaring, as the larger cats do. They make a variety of sounds, however, including chirping, churring, moaning, growling, yowling, bleating, and several sounds characteristic to mother-cub interactions.

They are the fastest land animal, capable of accelerating up to a top speed of approximately 70 miles per hour, with a typical hunting speed of 40 miles per hour. Cheetahs are not capable of maintaining such speeds for long periods, but show considerable skill in hunting, shared between male and female cheetahs alike. Female cheetahs are solitary, rearing their cubs alone, but male cheetahs form groups called coalitions. In spite of their territorial nature, male cheetahs are friendly and may be sociable toward one another in the wild.

Personality: At first blush, Jubath does not come across as brave or daring, however appearances can be deceiving. She is a clever green who prizes her family above all else, working hard to protect them and keep them safe in the only way that she knows how - by being the best sharding fighter she can. And make no mistake, Jubath is one swift, capable flyer. She excels at calculating risks, and knows what she's getting herself into when she puts herself on the line. Yet even knowing that she might be endangering herself, she will take action because her dearest hearts need her.

Although she does suffer from a mild anxiety, not quite so intense as her twin brother, Jubath has learned how turn that agonizing feeling into energy. She's dead useful in a crisis, as challenges tend to empower her, particularly when it comes to another's safety or well being. For those she loves, Jubath will willingly do anything. That does make her a little less scrupulous than some other dragons, but Jubath believes that the harms are far outweighed by the benefits. If she must be underhanded, then so be it, for there are evils in the world that do not care if one follows the rules.

At her core, Jubath is a homebody, and will not likely choose to leave Western. She is loathe to venture far, although she does have a certain burning curiosity about other places. Far more interested in listening to another's tales about the outside world, she'll sit at home and dream. For indeed, there is plenty to do right where she is! Her highest ambition is to one day become a Wingleader or Wingsecond, so that she can protect her people all the more - although she would not say no to Weyrwoman, were the position offered to her, of course. That said, these are the dreams of a young dragon, and likely beyond her reach for the time being.

Jubath knows that, and doesn't mind giving her all in the meantime in the hopes to one day have the opportunity to do all the more for the Weyr. She is deeply grateful for the sacrifices that have been made on her behalf, more than aware of the lives lost in defense of Pern. A selfless young dragon, Jubath will give, and give, and give, if she's allowed. She just absolutely wants the best for the most people, and if it means shedding her own ichor, so be it. This is likely to get her into trouble down the road, and there is a very real possibility that her better nature could be taken advantage of. Let it not be said that Jubath is without a temper, however; she is liable to swat the offending party with a well placed verbal smack.

Positive Traits: Selfless, protective, idealistic
Negative Traits: Unscrupulous, unadventurous, risk-taking

Gay Flag Egg: This small egg really wants to meet you... but it's having vapors right now. Oh Faranth! So many people!

Adult Size: 23'
Physical Attributes: Jubath is all long limbs, long tail, and is full of grace. She is just as swift on the ground as she is in the air, so good luck catching this one! Like her brother, she does lack in the stamina department, and will struggle pacing herself.

Additional Notes: Deeply protective and loving toward her twin, Citrath, Jubath nonetheless possesses a well of love for all of her siblings. In Flights, she will always favor a Western dragon, whether they've been Western all their lives, or whether they've chosen to join up and fight for the cause. Good luck outpacing her, however, for Jubath is a terribly quick green. What she lacks in stamina she absolutely makes up for in speed. Fond of shiny things, she'll adore gifts of any type. The best gift of all, is the love of those around her.

Impression Effect: Jubath is all of the treasure Jacquol will ever need. Maybe it won't stop her from leaving in five Turns, but that's five Turns Jubath has to convince her otherwise. The most significant effect that Impression will have on Jacquol is a sudden realization and understanding the Pern needs her. Needs her as no pirates need her, as nothing in the world except Jubath needs her. She is a dragonrider of Pern, and her dragon has a vision for them both. A vision that she hopes one day Jacquol will come to see.

Why Me? For all that they are diametrically opposed on the subject of duty, Jubath nonetheless sees great potential in Jacquol. She's smart, she's clever, she's a fast mover. Surely together they can be greater than their parts! If at last Jacquol must leave the Weyr to become the marauding sky pirate she's always dreamed of being, Jubath will go along... but it will break her hearts to leave not only the Weyr but her family behind. Perhaps one day Jacquol can show Jubath that she can be adventurous and a true Threadfighting dragon at the same time. Who knows what lies in store for them? Only time will tell. For her part, Jubath has a reservoir of love to offer Jacquol that's finer than any treasure, and wisdom enough for them both.

Origin of Name: Sonorienth's name is derived from one of the early Ocelet zoological speciments found in the early 19th and 20th centuries. In this case, her name is taken from the proposed name Felis pardalis sonoriensis , which was suggested by Edward Alphonso Goldman, from a specimen found in the Mayo River region in Mexico in 1925.

Inspiration: Ocelot

The ocelot (Leopardus pardalis) is a small wild cat native to the southwestern United States, Mexico, Central and South America. The ocelot's fur is extensively marked with solid black markings on a creamy, tawny, yellowish, reddish grey or grey background colour. The spots on head and limbs are small, but markings on the back, cheeks and flanks are open or closed bands and stripes. A few dark stripes run straight from the back of the neck up to the tip of the tail. Its neck and undersides are white, the insides of the legs are marked with a few horizontal streaks. Its round ears are marked with a bright white spot.

English naturalist Richard Lydekker commented that the ocelot is "one of the most difficult members of the feline family to describe". In 1929, wildlife author Ernest Thompson Seton described the ocelot's coat as "the most wonderful tangle of stripes, bars, chains, spots, dots and smudges ... which look as though they were put on as the animal ran by." The ocelot can be easily confused with the margay, but differs in being twice as heavy, having a greater head-and-body length, a shorter tail, smaller eyes relative to the size of the head, and different cranial features.

The ocelot is usually solitary and active around twilight and at night. Territories of females rarely overlap, whereas the territory of a male includes those of two to three females. Social interaction between sexes is minimal, though a few adults have been observed together even in non-mating periods, and some juveniles interact with their parents.

Personality: Sonorienth is a very good little green! This little one is here to fight the enemy, and absolutely cannot wait until she's able to take the skies as a fighter. This little green was hatched and plans on becoming the most ideal green to ever green; she plans on being the most agile, most swift, and fiercest Threadfighter Pern has to offer! She has earnest hearts, and she puts them on display everyday. As a friend, she will take her role with utmost seriousness and check in on them everyday; as a weyrling, she will do everything she can to make sure she listens hard and does everything she's asked without hesitation or complaint. Sonorienth isn't the sort of green who doesn't do things lightly; when given a task, she will complete it no longer how hard it takes!

Dutiful, this green wants nothing more than to serve. She knows her place as a green, even if she was hatched at Western Weyr. She knows what she was hatched to do, and that duty drives her every move and daily routines. Her duty is to her rider, her wingmates, her Weyrleaders, and her Weyr. Sonorienth wants to prove herself as capable, and her earnest nature only adds fuel to her desires. She doesn't want to be known as a great Threadfighter for glory, but purely because it was what she was born to do! If her rider isn't keen on working hard, you can bet Sonorienth will help get them in line!

Cooperative, this little green has no trouble playing nice with any of her clutchmates or fellow wingriders. No matter their color or size, she is the sort who is all about sharing, following the rules, and prefers to make nice no matter the situation. Unfortunately, one will find that Sonorienth has a tendency to immediately defer to queens and bronzes, whether she thinks them right or wrong; she will listen to browns, and not speak up too loudly against fellow blues because, well, they all out rank her. Oh, for being hatched in Western Weyr, her instinctive nature to follow the chain of command is strong in Sonorienth--she isn't here to make waves, and would never, ever, dare to talk back to any metallic. She truly believes, with her heart of hearts, that they are somehow better; she truly believes that, while she has her place, it isn't hers to lead. While she will always listen to the Wingleaders and Wingseconds of the Weyr, she tends to be more nervous when lead by chormatics because it wars with her inner nature. She is most confident when a bronze or gold is in charge, though she would never, ever, admit such a thing.

While she loves her home, Sonorienth is the sort who fully believes that Western is certainly a bit backwards and may need sorting out. She wouldn't necessarily turn on whites or her fellow greens, but she would likely try to shush them if they spoke up against the metallics of the Weyr. She isn't a green who believes herself nothing, oh no; she just truly believes they each have their place, and hers is to fight Thread and support the Wings.

To add to her colorist nature, Sonorienth is a bit rule-bound. She is the sort of green who likes to play by the rules; if her rider ever needed to follow directions, she's the sort of green who would panic if Hers decided to suddenly skip one, or do something different. She's the sort who doesn't like it when her clutchmates change the known rules of a game, or start going off cue, because that's just not how things should be done! Nothing gets her more worked up than when someone doesn't follow orders (especially orders given by a bronze or gold) and she often needs to be held backs because this green is Not All Right when it happens.

No, instead, Sonorienth will tell someone. The first person to tell would be her rider, in hopes that maybe Hers can get the others to change their ways. If her rider is the one not following directions, or doing something Wrong, she will go running back to one of her clutchmates, the nearest Wingsecond, Wingleader, or the Weyrleaders herself if she must. It's not because she wants to get them in trouble, per say, but she just can't abide that sort of behavior. What if they get someone hurt? What if something goes wrong? No, poor Sonorienth is the sort who will quickly be dubbed a snitch. Sneaking out? Sonorienth will tell the weyrlingmaster immediately. Cheating on a test? Sonorienth saw and now you're in trouble. Even her own rider isn't immune, which well could be a source of contention.

Positive Traits: Cooperative, Earnest, Dutiful
Negative Traits: Colorist, Tattle-Tale, Rule-bound

Purple Flying Heart Egg: A large friendly egg right in the middle of the clutch. It seems genuinely happy to be a growing egg.

Adult Size: 27'
Physical Attributes: Sonorienth is large for a green. She's a bit heavy-set and is prone to plumpness. That said, her eyes are just a bit too small compared to some of her siblings, and her tail just a bit too thick and a little too short. Otherwise, her proportions are nearly perfect. She'll be able to take a hit, and has more stamina than some of her smaller sisters.

Additional Notes: Sonorienth will make a most excellent addition to any Wing as she grows. She is focused, driven, and follows rules to a T.

When it comes to flights, she will be more prone to going up when she has someone she admires or loves than when she is single. She is the sort of green who tends to fancy blues, as browns and bronzes are often meant for queens. They are not above her, no, and perhaps one might surprise her by catching her during a flight... but with a blue she would expect loyalty and true love, and with a brown or bronze, she believes only a moment of fun.

When she gives her hearts, like all things, she gives them fully and earnestly.

Impression Effect: Cuzon is going to find that he now has something more to live for in his life, a newfound duty. While he might have been content to ease his way through life, he will find himself more driven than before, and more willing to put in the time and energy for Sonorienth, but also his fellow weyrlings, and riders. A new sense of duty and honor has bled its way into his life through Sonorienth.

Why Me? Cuzon (sinders path)

Cuzon is perfect for Sonorienth because this green has no ambition. Well, that's not entirely true. She just has no desire to rise up the ranks like SOME of her NAUGHTY siblings! Huff! She knows her place, accepts it, and enjoys it. There is nothing wrong in being a green rider, and she is certain that Cuzon will agree! Mostly because lazy lifestyle will work out relatively well on such a dragon. Sure, they will need to work hard during Threadfall days, and there are drills to be had, and sweeps; but for the most part, nobody will have any expectations of him.

Except, of course, Sonorienth. For while Sonorienth is proud to be a green, she is also a very duty-bound and rule-bound sort of creature. She knows that they are there to fight Thread and be the best support class they can be! She knows that every lesson needs to be attended; that the Weyrlingmaster's orders stringently obeyed and that their leadership's commands will be followed! Where Cuzon seems content to just kick back and relax, Sonorienth will be there to push her rider and ensure he's sitting in the front row of every lesson AND staying awake.

Because if he tries to nap, or cheat, or cut corners, Sonorienth will turn him in in a heartbeat. Not because she doesn't love her rider, of course, but because, well.... There are rules. And rules must be followed!

On the flipside, Cuzon is so laissez-faire that his attitude might be able to temper Sonorienth when she's at the height of being worked up, or otherwise offended. This green isn't high-strung, but she could stand to use a little more chill in her life. She will always be earnest and upfront and quick to call out others who are Wrong but Cuzon is the one person who can calm her hearts, and perhaps, remind her that there's more to life than just duty, rules, and following orders. There are things like naps, and books, and knowledge. Knowledge, of course, that Sonorienth knows will allow them to become the best green riders on Pern!

Certainly, if the two of them can find a way to benefit from each others differences, they might very well find that they make an exceptional and strong asset to the Weyr.

Green Yaguareth
Written by Uta
Colored by demon_pachabel

User Image

Origin of Name: Yaguareth is named after the etymology of a jaguar. The word 'jaguar' is thought to derive from the Tupian word yaguara, meaning "beast of prey". The word entered English presumably via the Amazonian trade language Tupinambá, via Portuguese jaguar. The specific word for jaguar is yaguareté, with the suffix -eté meaning "real" or "true".

Inspiration: Jaguar

The jaguar (Panthera onca) is a wild cat species and the only extant member of the genus Panthera native to the Americas. The jaguar's present range extends from Southwestern United States and Mexico in North America, across much of Central America, and south to Paraguay and northern Argentina in South America. Though there are single cats now living within the Western United States, the species has largely been extirpated from the United States since the early 20th century.

The jaguar is a compact and well-muscled animal. It is the largest cat native to the Americas and the third largest in the world, exceeded in size by the tiger and lion. Its coat is generally a tawny yellow, but ranges to reddish-brown, for most of the body. The ventral areas are white. The fur is covered with rosettes for camouflage in the dappled light of its forest habitat. The spots and their shapes vary between individual jaguars: rosettes may include one or several dots. The spots on the head and neck are generally solid, as are those on the tail, where they may merge to form a band. Forest jaguars are frequently darker and considerably smaller than those in open areas, possibly due to the smaller numbers of large, herbivorous prey in forest areas.

A short and stocky limb structure makes the jaguar adept at climbing, crawling, and swimming. The head is robust and the jaw extremely powerful, it has the third highest bite force of all felids, after the tiger and lion. A comparative study of bite force adjusted for body size ranked it as the top field, alongside the clouded leopard and ahead of the tiger and lion. It has been reported that "an individual jaguar can drag an 800 lb (360 kg) bull 25 ft (7.6 m) in its jaws and pulverize the heaviest bones".

While the jaguar closely resembles the leopard, it is generally sturdier and heavier, and the two animals can be distinguished by their rosettes: the rosettes on a jaguar's coat are larger, fewer in number, usually darker, and have thicker lines and small spots in the middle that the leopard lacks. Jaguars also have rounder heads and shorter, stockier limbs compared to leopards.

The jaguar is a stalk-and-ambush rather than a chase predator. The cat will walk slowly down forest paths, listening for and stalking prey before rushing or ambushing. The jaguar attacks from cover and usually from a target's blind spot with a quick pounce; the species' ambushing abilities are considered nearly peerless in the animal kingdom by both indigenous people and field researchers, and are probably a product of its role as an apex predator in several different environments. The ambush may include leaping into water after prey, as a jaguar is quite capable of carrying a large kill while swimming; its strength is such that carcasses as large as a heifer can be hauled up a tree to avoid flood levels.

Personality: Yaguareth is a green on which her rider, and any within the Weyr, can depend upon. From the moment she hatched from her egg, Yaguareth knew exactly who she was, and what she was meant to be. She is a fighter, she is meant to destroy the Enemy, and you can bet that she will take it down! This green isn't here to waste time; she is here to be the best she can be, and to ensure that the next generations know exactly how ferocious a green can be! It will be up to her rider to ensure that Yaguareth doesn't turn into an all-work and no play sort of green; she is ready to flame, to fight, and to carve her name into history.

Honorable and clever, Yaguareth will quickly gain a good reputation among her clutchmates and her elders as being reliable and true. When she gives her word, she will follow it to the very end, no matter the cost. When she is given an order, she will do all in her power to ensure its success. If ever there might be a knight among dragons, Yaguareth would certainly be a contender, for she is sworn to protect Pern, her rider, and all those upon it. She knows her Enemy, and she is unafraid. If her rider is at all hesitant or wary, you can best be sure Yaguareth will have their back. If her wingmates get forlorn, Yaguareth is happy to have a heart of steel to steady them.

She might well make a grand Wingleader or Wingsecod if only she could hold her tongue. Yes, one of Yaguareth's flaws is that she has a tendency to speak her mind, particularly when it's unwanted or undesired. As she grows and learns, she will not hesitate to speak up and argue with someone far older or more experienced; if she thinks a bad call is made, you can bet she will demand explanation on why; if she thinks someone isn't doing the right thing, she will not hesitate to say so. Her rider will need to keep her in check else face the consequences--and there can and often will be depending on who she mouths off to!

Secondly, Yaguareth has a tendency to be vindictive. She will find a way to retaliate against those who do her or Hers wrong, particularly if her rider isn't firm with her. She might be honor bound, but she is also the sort who believes an eye for an eye, a wrong for a wrong. Those who are caught in her bad graces might well find the green plotting and preparing some sort of sweet revenge; perhaps the only good thing is that once the score is settled, Yaguareth tends to forgive, but not a moment sooner. She is not the sort to hold grudges once the price has been paid.

Lastly, Yaguarath tends not to see the grand scheme or larger picture. She has a tendency to be short-sighted, which can cause complications as a potential up-and-coming leader. She tends to live in the moment, and doesn't often think about long-term effects of her actions, or the actions of others. This means she doesn't always account for everything that could go wrong (or right) and can make bad calls, or rash reactions, without really understanding the why, how, or long-term effects. Hopefully, her rider will be able to help with this.

Positive Traits: Honorable, Clever, Battle Ready
Negative Traits: Vindictive, Short-Sighted, Argumentative

Blue and Black Rosette Egg: A large egg that seems to be ever vigilant and watchful. This egg is alert, and ready for whatever might come.

Adult Size: 28'
Physical Attributes: Yaguareth is quite large for a green. She is heavier than some of her more delicate clutchmates, but it's not made up of fat or chub; no, this green is simply built more like her larger kin. She is muscular, strong, and has no problem carrying and lifting more than a typical green. She's not nearly as fast, but her strength is unmatched among her green, and even some blue, clutchmates.

Her limbs are well on the stockier side, making her shorter than some of her fellows; but what does height matter when she can outfly them and take more of a hit?

Additional Notes: Yaguareth seems to prefer the company of ladies than the boys; she's much more rough and wild, and would prefer to chase than be chased. That said, she has about one or two flights at Turn, and uses every trick in the book to fool those who pursue--particularly the males. She prefers greens, but on rare occasion, a male dragon might unexpectedly win, much to her displeasure.

Males aren't welcome long should they win her; but females of any color are always welcome to linger. Once she finds a mate that makes her heart sing, she will be steadfast and as true as her color allows her to be. Yaguareth has too much honor to break hearts.

When she hunts, Yaguareth prefers the largest, and strongest of herdbeasts. She much prefers a good battle than to pick off the weak.

Impression Effect: Her insecurities will be washed away immediately with Yaguareth now in her life; she need never wonder where her place in the world might be for it is staunchly with Yaguareth. This green is here to take Aryale to new heights. Her family has now grown signicantly, for while she might not be able to look after a brother, she has clutchmates, weyrlings, riders, and the people of Pern to now defend.

Why Me? Aryale demon_pachabel

Aryale is exactly the sort of girl that Yaguareth needs. Her calm-headed and lawful nature fit well with Yaguareth's honor. Yaguareth needed someone who already saw the world in black-and-white, or at least through a lens of understanding the rules, and knowing how to play a game fairly. Aryale has been nothing but good, and continues to be nothing but good; if ever she was in doubt of her place, she no more needs to wonder for it is with Yaguareth. Together, they will fight the good fight, and when Aryale is weak, Yaguareth will lift her up; when reckoning needs to be reckoned, you can bet this green will be just the one to do it!

That said, Aryale's calm head will help counter Yaguareth's vindictive and argumentative nature. When someone wrongs her, a friend, or loved one, you can bet Yaguareth will feel the need for a counter-measure! It will be up to Aryale to ensure that Yaguareth picks those battles carefully, or be firm when something needs to be let go. Not every crime deserves a visible punishment, and some battles just aren't worth the energy--or are ones where they will lose. On the flip side, Yaguareth will usually help temper Aryale's imprudent nature--though other times, the two of them will find themselves in the thick of it with someone or something, because Yaguareth felt Aryale's actions were the right choice to make.

Ultimately, these two will be the wardens of the weyrlings, for they are both bound by rules and order. This is something Yaguareth appreciates, and will actively encourage; she might not be as obviously a tattler as one little sister out there, but she won't hesitate to speak up when someone does something she doesn't like, or goes against their duty. Together, they are a perfect match, and however high Aryale wishes to rise, you can bet Yaguareth will take her there.

Brown Issoireth
Written by Uta
Colored by Meepfur

User Image

Origin of Name: The four living species of the genus Lynx are believed to have evolved from the "Issoire lynx", which lived in Europe and Africa during the late Pliocene to early Pleistocene. Issoireth is named after this forebearer.

Inspiration: Lynx

A lynx is any of the four species (Canada lynx, Iberian lynx, Eurasian lynx, bobcat) within the medium-sized wild cat genus Lynx. The name lynx originated in Middle English via Latin from the Greek word λύγξ derived from the Indo-European root leuk- ('light, brightness') in reference to the luminescence of its reflective eyes.

Lynx have a short tail, characteristic tufts of black hair on the tips of their ears, large, padded paws for walking on snow and long whiskers on the face. Under their neck they have a ruff which has black bars resembling a bow tie, although this is often not visible.

Body colour varies from medium brown to goldish to beige-white, and is occasionally marked with dark brown spots, especially on the limbs. All species of lynx have white fur on their chests, bellies and on the insides of their legs, fur which is an extension of the chest and belly fur. The lynx's colouring, fur length and paw size vary according to the climate in their range. In the Southwestern United States, they are short-haired, dark in colour and their paws are smaller and less padded. As climates get colder and more northerly, lynx have progressively thicker fur, lighter colour, and their paws are larger and more padded to adapt to the snow. Their paws may be larger than a human hand or foot.

The smallest species are the bobcat and the Canada lynx, while the largest is the Eurasian lynx, with considerable variations within species.

The lynx is usually solitary, although a small group of lynx may travel and hunt together occasionally. The lynx inhabits high altitude forests with dense cover of shrubs, reeds, and tall grass. Although this cat hunts on the ground, it can climb trees and can swim swiftly, catching fish.

Personality: Issoireth is a brown who has swagger. Issoireth is a brown who has confidence. Issoireth is a brown who believes in himself a little too much, and is quite vocal about how amazing he happens to be. If the world can't see such a thing, he'll be the one to say it.

Unfortunately, Issoireth's confidence means he ca be more than a little obnoxious. While not every conversation in the room puts him right in the middle, he believes every dragon is either desirous of him, or jealous of him, or maybe a little of both. No matter how hard he might fail at something, you can bet Issoireth can turn it into a way he's won, even if it's pure delusion. He's known to be a smarmy b*****d, always just a little too smug, always just a little too "I-told-you-so" whether or not he did, in fact, tell you so. He's the sort who thinks he's got the biggest tail in the room, and he walks with the swagger of the most pretentious dragon on Pern. This quality can drive others away very quickly, or aggravate them, but thankfully, Issoireth isn't the sort to worry. They love him, really; he'd run away upset if he was someone else not nearly as amazing as him, too.

Issoireth definitely believes that the sun rises everyday just so the world can better see his good looks, and his guns. Yeah, that's right; he doesn't really know what a gun is, but he has two of them--this one is Oh, and this one is Yeah. Put them together and it says Yeah Oh... or Oh Yeah. And that is the way he walks through life, oh yeah!

All right, so where Issoireth got a heavy doze of self-love and self-confidence, he lacks entirely in intelligence and wits. He's not the sort of dragon that's very clever or bright, and others can easily run circles around him on that score. He's the sort of brown that's cute but dumb, and is too dumb to realize when he's being insulted, slighted, or otherwise put off. On the one hand, this works out great for all parties involved; Issoireth's feelings aren't usually hurt, mostly because he sees himself so high above others, and also, because he often doesn't understand the insult. His rider will definitely need to be the brains of the duo, especially when it comes to Threadfall and tactics. While Issoireth will be a decent fighter, he will be prone to flashy tactics, and taking foolish risks just to show off and look good.

He thinks he'll be an excellent Wingsecond or Wingleader, but his foolish and narcissistic ways means he'll wind up thinking of himself before his wingmates. This might well cause issues if his rider doesn't keep a firm grip on controlling his brown as they grow. What seems harmless as a weyrling might well cost someone their life if Issoireth isn't careful. Life's a lot harder and more complicated than this brown seems to understand; while he is relatively innocent, he's a living representation of leaping before looking. Hopefully, his rider will help account for these shortcomings.

Ah, but for all his failures, Issoireth is often a jolly-sort. He has a resilient temper, and doesn't get upset or angry often. When he does, it's likely when his rider is at risk--but his hide is thick, and he is secure in himself. He knows he's not the sharpest tool in the shed, but it doesn't bother him in the least. What he lacks in brains he makes up for in brawn, and you've never seen a better looking brown than he!

Positive Traits: Confident, Secure, Patient
Negative Traits: Smarmy, Narcissistic, Foolish

Night Sky Egg: A medium sized egg that exudes nothing but good-vibes. Come check this one out!

Adult Size: 39'
Physical Attributes: Issoireth is large for a brown, though not the largest. He has shorter, squatter limbs, and his feet tend to be a bit larger than a dragon of his size -- proof, he claims, that he's still slowly growing into them. Something he'll always argue, even when he's clearly stopped growing! He's slow on the ground, and slow in the air, but has the solid stamina of a brown. All his bulk (and there is substantial muscle on him) does allow for him to take a good hit without flinching--physical feats are something he excels at.

Additional Notes: Issoireth loves flights... but seems to prefer males than ladies. While he might entertain a gold, or even a green just for the thrill, he tends to show off less for the ladies and more for the beautiful and handsome males. And why shouldn't he? He's the cat's meow--or should he say, me-Wow.

Impression Effect: Farellan will find that his obsessive-compulsive tendencies and need for things to be in certain places or order will be significantly lessened, almost immediately. It's possible Farellan himself won't notice the change, being so focused on weyrlinghood, but to those who know him they will see a significant drop in the habit. It doesn't have to go away completely--but the compulsion will be significantly lessened.

Why Me? Farellan (Reval1984)

Farellllllaaaaannnnnn! You are the one Issoireth has chosen, and you never, ever, have to feel like a disappointment again. Indeed, any self-doubt or uncertainty will be completely blown away by the amount of love and adoration Issoireth has for him. You are enough. There is no need to worry about being true to himself because he is nothing but perfection; how does he know? Because he's Issoireth, and he knows everything and out of everyone on those sands it was Farellan that was his most perfect One.

Farellan will find that Issoireth absolutely agrees about being the life of the party and if anyone were to shrug him off, or dismiss him, you can bet Issoireth will be there to object. Why shouldn't the world want Farellan around? He's perfect--take it from a dragon who knows firsthand, yeah? Should Farellan ever find himself down, or glum, he'll have Issoireth to lift him up and drive any doubt and insecurity away.

On the flip side, Farellan has learned when it's best to talk ad when it's time to shut up. That sort of sense is something Issoireth highly lacks. Farellan should be able to help keep his brown in his line, especially as he learns that Issoireth doesn't always know when to stop, or begins doing foolhardy things. Even when Issoireth does find himself under scrutiny or ire, Farellan has hearts enough to love this brown even at his intellectual worst; additionally, should his brown find himself being picked on, Farellan's defensive and protective nature will be good for such a sweet dragon. While Issoireth doesn't know it's something he needs, Farellan will be this brown's best defender, as well as the brains of the duo. Issoireth will come to depend on his riders input, indubitably.

They're both just a little absent minded, but a hundred percent perfect for each other. If Farellan wanted to become a dragonrider, he just found himself with the best brown of the bunch! The skies the limit, and no matter how high up in rank Farellan wants to go, Issoireth will take them there with style.

Origin of Name: The African golden cat (Caracal aurata) is a wild cat endemic to the rainforests of West and Central Africa. This feline has had many different names over the years, but Auratath takes her name directly from her theme's scientific name.

Inspiration: African Golden Cat

The African Golden Cat is one of the least-known felids in the world. This cat inhabits tropical forests from sea level to 3,000 m (9,800 ft). It prefers dense, moist forest with heavy undergrowth, and is often found close to rivers, but it may also be found in cloud forest, bamboo forests, and high moorland habitats.

The African golden cat has a fur colour ranging from chestnut or reddish-brown, greyish brown to dark slaty. Some are spotted, with the spots ranging from faded tan to black in colour. In others the spotting pattern is limited to the belly and inner legs. Its undersides and areas around the eyes, cheeks, chin, and throat are lighter in colour to almost white. Its tail is darker on the top and either heavily banded, lightly banded or plain, ending in a black tip. Cats in the western parts of its range tend to have heavier spotting than those in the eastern region. Two color morphs, a red and a grey phase, were once thought to indicate separate species, rather than colour variations of the same species. Grey skins have hairs that are not pigmented in their middle zones, whereas hair of red skins is pigmented intensively red. Hair of melanistic skins is entirely black.

Skins of African golden cats can be identified by the presence of a distinctive whorled ridge of fur in front of the shoulders, where the hairs change direction. It is about twice the size of a domestic cat. Its rounded head is very small in relation to its body size. It is a heavily built cat, with stocky, long legs, a relatively short tail, and large paws.

Personality: Watch out world, Auratath is here! No, really, you're definitely going to watch out around this green. From the first moment out of the egg, Auratath is known to be nothing but a bit of a train-wreck. The poor green isn't particularly graceful or balanced, and seems to take up more room than her size would suggest. For having a short tail, she has has a tendency to knock into things, step on things, break things, and generally be unaware of her natural size and strength. She will gain a reputation of being clumsy (and often in-the-way) and it's not something she'll likely grow out of! Auratath certainly doesn't mean to do harm, but sometimes this poor creature has no sense of space.

To make matters worse, Auratath is rather unobservant. She's not necessarily easily distracted, she just has a tendency so go into tunnel-vision. If she's listening to her rider, she's probably not paying attention to what's in front of her, or near her; if she's talking, she probably isn't listening to what anyone else is saying. She's not the sort of green lost in a daydream, but she also isn't the sort to pick up subtle cues. She's the sort of green that needs to be hit hard over the head to put two-and-two together. She's a smart enough dragon, she just sometimes misses things; big things; things that almost anyone else would piece together or notice. That new fence? Its been there almost a month Auratath... Your wingmate? They transferred a two sevendays ago. You only now noticed? Honestly, unless it affects her personally (or her riders), Auratath will likely have a high chance of not noticing changes in her life.

Friendly and relaxed, Auratath doesn't seem to pay much mind to anyone bemoaning her presence. She has no problem apologizing for any mishaps that happen around her, but is breezy in personality, and moves on easily. She doesn't dwell, and doesn't apologize at all for existing; why should she? Accidents happen, nothing she does is done intentionally. Not every dragon can be graceful and lithe; everyone is different and that should be embraced. She's the sort of dragon who has no trouble making friends, and will reach out to anyone, anytime, any place. She is the sort of green who lifts others up when they're down, and isn't the sort to judge or shun another. Green, white, gold, bronze, or brown, Auratath is more than happy to make friends and play nice.

She's a relaxed green, not at all high-strung or impatient. She's the sort of green who often goes with the flow, and doesn't stress about much. Life's too short to get worked up. Unfortunately, her relaxed nature can often turn her a bit indolent. Auratath isn't exactly known for her work-ethic. She is the sort of dragon who much prefers to lounge on her ledge, soak up the sun, and do as little work as possible. She simply prefers cuddles and talking and making friends to doing drills. When she hunts, she will pick the easiest prey; when she flies, she will try to fly as slow as she's allowed, or glide as much as possible. She loves short trips, and lives to return to her weyr and cozy on up with her rider or future mate. Sleeping is also great. Lazy afternoons are what Auratath lives for, and she will always enjoy settling upon the heights with the best of company and conversation.

Positive Traits: Friendly, Relaxed, Accepting
Negative Traits: Indolent, Unobservant, Clumsy

Sunset Egg: This small egg seems to be lost in its own world. Perhaps you'll draw it out of its shell?

Adult Size: 22'
Physical Attributes: Auratath is a very heavy-set green. Her head is quite small compared to the rest of her, almost delicate, but the rest of her is on the stocky side. Her tail is short, her legs large, and she isn't known to be light on her feet. Her size makes her slower in the air, but she doesn't seem to mind. Honestly, this green would prefer to be on the ground.

Additional Notes: Auratath enjoys flights, but likely won't rise often. It's certainly a lot of effort for a good time. She'll likely rise once or twice a Turn at most, and when she does rise, her flights are short. She enjoys the chase, sure, but the one who can nab her the quickest is likely her preference; why make a big show of it when they can be having fun entwined with one another. Rest assured, though, Auratath does enjoy all the handsome boys in the Weyr and will not mind being right in the middle of a pile of them.

During Threadfall, while she's not the swiftest, she is still a green, and still able to be agile while in the air. She can take a harder hit than some of her fellow greens.

Impression Effect: Lesta is going to find that she can breathe easier. She will find new-found acceptance, and while she might always be sorry for past mistakes, the shame will not weight nearly as heavy upon her heart as it once did. She need not walk in shame or with sorrow or regret. Not anymore, at least.

Why Me? Lesta (Teiha)

Lesta and Auratath are nothing short of a perfect pair. To start, Lesta's penitent nature will be matched entirely by a green who doesn't feel the need to apologize for existing. Honestly, as far as Auratath is concerned, mistakes happen, accidents happen, and much of it is outside anyone's control! This includes all the bad things that happened in Lesta's past. While Auratath accepts that Hers has a penitent heart, Auratath will also help ease that burden and load; she no longer needs to walk alone, or punish herself over things that weren't her fault. With Auratath at her side, Lesta now has a new lease on life. Lesta is enough. Aurtath accepts her, flaws and all... and loves her all the more.

Additionally, Auratath's easy-going and indolent nature should work well with Lesta's hot-headed and decisive nature. While the two might always look for an easy way out, Lesta isn't going to allow Auratath to simply laze about all day. Her restless spirit will force Auratath to get up and go! On the flip-side, Aurtath can teach, or show Lesta, just how nice it is to ease up a little bit. Life is meant to be savored, and sometimes that means enjoying a bit of peace.

Ultimately, Lesta will absolutely be able to keep an eye on Auratath--especially with her clumsy nature. On the flip side, if Lesta were concerned about life being boring, Aurtath will always have some sort of gossip or story to tell her, or some bit of news she heard; additionally, always tripping over herself, Auratath will always be a bit of a handful. The world is theirs, and Auratath will always be her wings.

Origin of Name: There are five sub-species of Geoffroy Cat. This green takes her name from one of those subspecies: L. g. euxantha, which is found in northern Argentina and western Bolivia.

Inspiration: Geoffroy Cat

Geoffroy's cat (Leopardus geoffroyi) is a wild cat native to the southern and central regions of South America. The Geoffroy's cat is about the size of a domestic cat, but has numerous black spots and dark bands on the cheeks, head and neck as well as on the tail and limbs. The background colour of its fur varies from a brownish-yellow coat in the northern part of its range to a more grayish coat in the south. The underbelly hair is cream-coloured or even white. The backs of the ears are black with white spots. Black individuals are common. Males are usually larger than females, and Geoffroy's cat in the south are larger than those from the north.

It prefers open woodland or scrubland with plenty of cover. It also occurs in grasslands and marshy areas. It seems to be common in central South American regions. In Bolivia, it is the second most common cat after the ocelot.

The Geoffroy's cat is nocturnal and a solitary hunter that contacts others only during the mating season. Geoffroy's cats have been observed to stand up on their hind legs to scan the surrounding landscape and use their tail as a support, an unusual behaviour among cats. It is able to climb trees but rarely does.

Personality: Euxanth is a very happy-go-lucky sort of green. She's the sort of dragon who brings with her a great amount of good cheer, and has no trouble looking on the brighter side of life no matter how dim or grey things happen to be. When someone is down, she can lift them up; when someone needs a shoulder to cry upon, she'll have no trouble wrapping them up in her wings, and letting them rest their woes upon her delicate shoulders. She is a good-hearted green, to be sure, and lives to lift up those around her. Sometimes this can get her in trouble, when she bounces back a bit too quickly from some tragedy, or tries to find the silver lining when there really is none to be found; her rider may need to help her understand that there is a time and place for such cheer, and sometimes, her good-heart can trivialize (or give the appearance of trivializing) another's pain.

Thankfully (or perhaps unfortunately?) Euxanth isn't the sort to feel too poorly or out of sorts, even when she misses a step. Her cheer will brighten her mood, and if that doesn't, her boundless energy will. Yes, this green is the sort of up-and-at-em sort of the girl! She will never quite out grow her need to be doing something, and that means she can sometimes put her nose where it's unwanted. She has energy in droves, and is the sort of morning person that drives others crazy when she's ready to take the bull by the horns, and her wingmates are just barely able to keep their eyes open. On the one hand, she's a green who doesn't slow down, which means she'll be quite talented to have while flying sweeps or put to some task during Threadfall; on the other hand, her rider will find the real challenge is getting Euxanth to settle down. Quiet times, or moments when they're meant to just relax and do nothing tend to get Euxanth antsy. She doesn't like to wait, or be kept waiting, and doesn't like to be doing nothing; it might start off small, like hopping from foot to foot, or swishing her tail, but eventually she'll start doing wingflaps, or start talking, when she's really supposed to be listening.

She is not a good watchrider, mostly because all that watching and waiting tends to leave her very distracted and bored. Easily distracted, she tends to be the sort that, unless in the midst of some really good gossip, or conversation, she will have no problem tuning out all the "boring" stuff, and finding something far more interesting. This can be problematic when she's given an order, and she'll need help in being more disciplined. While she can focus, and isn't completely inattentive, certain scenarios can almost guarantee a green who will have half-an-ear on everything else; parties, Gathers, and any social outing means Euxanth is likely gone--too busy talking to a new friend, or listening in on all the latest news. Her rider will hear from her almost constantly; a stream of chatter that doesn't seem to stop until the green is sleeping.

Euxanth can be still and more settled when she has someone to focus on, be it her rider or her friends; that said, while she is a sociable beast, she can be prone both to gossip and fussing. If someone looks like they're in need, trouble, or just could use some advice this green will be there to tell them all about it. If there isn't any news, you can bet Euxanth will make something up; getting her nose involved in all the Weyr's juiciest rumors, and then spreading them, is something she absolutely loves. She is not the sort of green that keeps secrets; unfortunately, once she learns something, half the Weyr will know some version of the story by the next meal. Euxanth is never malicious in her rumor spreading, but she can be tactless; secrets easily get spilled, or something spoken in confidence suddenly comes back to the person who wasn't supposed to hear it. Oops. She might well lose some friends if she's not careful!

Positive Traits: Cheerful, Energetic, Sociable
Negative Traits: Chatterbox, Antsy, Distracted

Eggshell Egg: This medium sized egg seems to tremble with excitement and good-feelings. Every now and then it gives a little, or big, twitch.

Adult Size: 26'
Physical Attributes: Euxanth is on the large side for a green. Despite her size, her head is small, her legs short, and her tail noticeably shorter. It's also a bit thicker than the rest of her, giving her a bit of an awkward appearance that she'll never quite grow out of! Still, she's capable both on land and in the air, and can better balance should she sit on her hind-quarters, thanks to her thick tail.

Additional Notes: When it comes to flights, Euxanth will be excited to share the skies with her suitors. She will thrill to be chased, and her romantic hearts will be given eagerly to those who yearn for it. While she might settle down or find a favored lover, she also might also prefer to flit from one suitor to the next, so as to sample them all!

Impression Effect: Fisher may have once been self-serving, but with Euxanth's Impression, she's going to find that suddenly, there is someone whose life is just as important as her own--and it's Euxanth's. While it's clear living a long life is the ultimate goal, as a new dragonrider of Pern, a new grip of duty will infuse itself into Fisher. There is a higher calling, a larger purpose, and that might mean putting oneself in danger, or even giving up ones life. Keeping oneself alive is well and good... but Fisher is going to find herself more willing to make sacrifices for the greater good. While her self-serving nature won't go away completely, it will be significantly lessened.

Why Me? Fisher (houllow)

Fisher and Euxanth make a balanced and perfect match. To start, the restless Candidate is likely the only one in the world that can keep up with the active Euxanth. If the Candidate had thought that they would be bored during weyrling training, with Euxanth at her side, even the slow and dull moments will be active; when things are quiet, this green will be sure to fill that quiet with all sorts of conversation. There's so much to discover, and she absolutely cannot wait to tell Fisher about all the things she's learned. This might well help open up Fisher's shallowness; where the girl doesn't seem to go any deeper than face-value, Euxanth will know all sorts of things about others, and happily fill in the gaps as she learns them. Not everything she learns will necessarily be true, such is the risk of spreading rumors, but it certainly will force Fisher to see more of a person than what's first presented.

On the flip-side, Fisher's work-ethic is well known. She's a hardworker, and her ability to take orders and commands, as well as follow through, will mean that Euxanth will be forced to stay on task. Her green is easily distracted, but Fisher knows what can happen when something is done half-assed or directions not followed from a Captain. She'll be able to ensure this green stays on task, or at the very least, can help guide Euxanth's energy to focus on whatever lesson or drill they're meant to be learning. As someone who has a preference for staying alive and not taking unnecessary risk, that could well help during Threadfall, when there are so many distractions, and so many things Euxanth might accidentally "tune-out".

Together, these two will be a handful, but with time, the skies the limit. If their energies and passions can be united and directed at the same purpose--saving Pern--they will become quite a well-known and well-praised force.

Blue Tierboskath

Origin of Name: Tierboskath is take from the alternative name for the serval. Tierboskat is the Afrikaans name for tiger-bush-cat, which is what the Serval is also called.

Inspiration: Serval

The serval (Leptailurus serval) is a wild cat native to Africa. It is the sole member of the genus Leptailurus. They're characterized by a small head, large ears, a golden-yellow to buff coat spotted and striped with black, and a short, black-tipped tail. The serval has the longest legs of any cat relative to its body size.

Servals are common on savannas where there is plenty of water. They prefer areas of bush, tall grass, and dry reed beds near streams, but they are also found in high-altitude moorlands and bamboo thickets. They are found in most parts of Africa, with the exception of Central Equatorial Africa, the very Southern part of the continent, and the Sahara region.

Active in the day as well as at night, servals tend to be solitary with minimal social interaction.

Personality: Tierboskath is the sort of the blue who was born for life's pleasures, and that's exactly what he intends to obtain. Oh, certainly, he knows his instinctive duty as a dragon, but oh, if only he had been hatched Turns prior before The Enemy returned. If only he could laze about all day with his rider, in the most distinguished company. If he had his way, he would find himself surrounded by his dearest loves, with the best selection of food, the finest scented oil for his hide, and have the world handed to him on a silver plate.

As far as Tierboskath is concerned, he is here to live life to its fullest, and to squeeze every ounce of pleasure out of it. Life is just too short for anything else, especially with death raining down upon them in silver threads. No, Tierboskath is the sort of blue who will ensure his rider is given everything they deserve. While he might not care to fight Thread, or face the Enemy, what will keep him on task with his lessons is a desire to ensure He and His live another day. Therefor, even if it's not his favorite thing to do, Tierboskath will fight if only so he can go right back to enjoying the things that make life worthwhile.

Should his rider ever have doubts or uncertainty, you can be Tierboskath will happily push them outside their comfort zone, or at least, encourage them to be the best they can be. He's not entirely an an enabler, but he is a one-blue-cheer squad. While he himself might not be up for a task, that doesn't mean he won't encourage someone else to do it; this is particularly noticeable when it comes to allowing--not, encouraging--someone else to do the heavy lifting or conquering something he's too afraid to do. Thankfully, he's charming enough to often get away with such tricks. As a lover of life's pleasure, that includes seducing others, not just with his body (when he's older) but with his words. Making promises he doesn't intend to keep, or stroking their ego, this blue has no trouble fawning over others so he might get what he best desires. He's a clever beast, and can learn how to turn a situation well to his advantage. The world's his oyster, why shouldn't he pull some strings?

Of course, as soon as things look like they might go south, or turn bad, you can bet this blue will be the first to call a hasty retreat back to his known and secure comforts in life. Unpleasant situations aren't long welcome around Tierboskath, and he will happily worm his way out of them as soon as he's able. A coward at heart, you can bet that at the end of the day, Tierboskath will always look out for his neck, and his riders, first. Unlike some dragons out there, Tierboskath's end goal has always been to ensure his comfort. No matter what he does, his motive is always clear: pleasure, pleasure, pleasure.

Positive Traits: Charming, Encouraging, Clever
Negative Traits: Hedonistic, Self-Serving, Cowardly

Teal and Yellow Spiral Egg: A small egg that wants all the touches, please. Yes, even yours.

Adult Size: 25'
Physical Attributes: Tierboskath is an average sized blue, but he'll well be known for his height. He has long legs, which put him on the taller side for a blue. He has a thin and delicate neck and tail, giving him a graceful appearance. That said, Tierboskath is known for his speed and agility, on both land and air.

Additional Notes: Tierboskath has a fondness for water. He loves to swim, even more than the average dragon, and will always be up for a trip to some beach or lake.

When it comes to flights, Tierboskath will enjoy the chase immensely! There is no flight he won't enter, and he'll always be tempted to get out there and spread his wings. He just wants to have some fun, and what's more fun than being surrounded by a slew of lovers, each one devoted in their way, to him? A lover of love, Tierboskath has no problem breaking hearts, or at least, claiming as many as he can! Why settle for the One when you can have Everyone?

Impression Effect: Rio is going to absolutely glow. He was good looking before, but he just gained a plus fifteen in appearance on top of what he already had. He's one of those riders that you know is a rider purely by how they move and look--never mind what they say.

Why Me? Rio (Meepfur)

While there were many Candidates that interested Tierboskath, it was Rio that was destined to be his. On the surface level, these two will make quite a charming, eye-catching pair. Rio is the sort who loves-to-love, as well as be loved in return, and Tierboskath will make sure Rio wakes up feeling nothing but adored every morning, noon, and night--and any love or affection Rio might give him will be immediately soaked up and savored. Where Rio can be needy, Tierboskath will never grow bored or impatient with him, and might well encourage such neediness; whatever His needs, you can bet this blue will be the first to give! This blue loves Rio more than he loves himself, and that's saying a lot for such a self-centered blue.

Tierboskath won't allow for Rio to be used by others; he will guard his helpful hearts, and be sure to intervene if it looks like His is being taken advantage of. This blue is clever enough to know a user and manipulator when he sees one, and where His might be easily fooled, Tierboskath is no such thing! He's sharp and keen, and certainly won't let anyone hurt His, including Rio! That's right, where Rio has a tendency not to think of himself, Tierboskath is the sort of blue who lives for his (and now Rio's) pleasures; everything he does somehow ends with Their betterment, and he will make sure that His lacks in nothing.

On the flipside, Rio's generous and kind nature will help keep Tierboskath from growing up into a completely abominable self-serving fiend. Rio will ensure that his blue doesn't draw the line into using others for personal gain; while Tierboskath might skirt near the bounderies, it's Rio's good and kind heart that will ensure he never actually crosses it. Rio is sincere, and good, and that's something Tierboskath will find fascinating--and likely learn to become with age. Additionally, when things get tough, it's clear that Rio won't hesitate to do what's right--so should Tierboskath begin to freeze or turn tail, Rio will be there to ensure they see their duty through to the very end.

Green Neuwith

Origin of Name: In his first description, Schinz named the margay Felis wiedii in honour of Prince Maximilian of Wied-Neuwied who collected specimens in Brazil. Neuwith also takes her name in honor of him.

Inspiration: Margay

The margay (Leopardus wiedii) is a small wild cat native to Central and South America. A solitary and nocturnal cat, it lives mainly in primary evergreen and deciduous forest. The margay is very similar to the larger ocelot in appearance, although the head is a little shorter, the eyes larger, and the tail and legs longer.

Its fur is brown and marked with numerous rows of dark brown or black rosettes and longitudinal streaks. The undersides are paler, ranging from buff to white, and the tail has numerous dark bands and a black tip. The backs of the ears are black with circular white markings in the centre.

Most notably the margay is a much more skillful climber than its relative, and it is sometimes called the tree ocelot because of this ability. Whereas the ocelot mostly pursues prey on the ground, the margay may spend its entire life in the trees, leaping after and chasing birds and monkeys through the treetops. Indeed, it is one of only two cat species with the ankle flexibility necessary to climb head-first down trees (the other being the clouded leopard). It is remarkably agile; its ankles can turn up to 180 degrees, it can grasp branches equally well with its fore and hind paws, and it is able to jump up to 12 ft horizontally.

While margays are nocturnal, in some areas they have also been observed to hunt during the day. They prefer to spend most of their life in the trees, but also travel across the ground, especially when moving between hunting areas. During the day, they rest in relatively inaccessible branches or clumps of lianas.

Like most cats, they are solitary, with the adults only commonly meeting to mate.

There has been one report of a margay using auditory mimicry to try to lure one of its prey. A margay was observed to imitate the call of a pied tamarin infant while in the presence of a group of adult tamarins, leading the adults to investigate. While the margay was not successful in catching one of the monkeys, this represents the first observation of a Neotropical predator employing this type of mimicry.

Personality: Neuwith is the sort of dragon is quite athletic with a healthy love of acrobatics. As a green, this will serve her well, but unlike some of her brethren, she wont limit her agility to times when she's in the air. No, Neuwith is the sort of green who is happy to get into all sorts of trouble on the ground; if there's something that she thinks she can climb, she will do so; if she thinks she can slip into a small space, she won't hesitate. This green is limber and should her rider, or another dragon, try to catch her or keep her in place, Neuwith will have no trouble squirming out of their hold. This green loves to move, and it will serve her well; she's quite healthy, all things considered, and certainly enjoys physical activities. Sparring, wrestling, flapping her wings, this green lives everyday to its fullest!

To make matters worse, this green tends to be a bit too active. She can get easily bored, and will often try to turn something she doesn't like into nothing but fun. She loves to run, play, wrestle, tussle, and even climb; once she learns to fly she will love to be on wing as often as possible. If her rider isn't as active as Neuwith, they'll learn to be, because this green doesn't seem to have an "off" button. The only time she's still is when she's asleep, but that takes quite a bit of doing! If her rider isn't into moving, or is lazy, you can bet this green will be sure to encourage them to get up and go!

Neuwith is known to be a helpful creature, though sometimes her help goes too far. She loves to be involved in her riders affairs, and if her rider isn't around, than she will have no trouble getting herself involved in all her clutchsibs matters. Oh, are you going to bathe? She'll come with and keep company. Oh, are you getting oiled? She'll help carry the buckets, nevermind that she spills most of it in her attempts to pick it up or carry it in her jaws. Are you unhappy? Well, Neuwith will entertain you, and if that doesn't work, she'll try to find out what exactly IS wrong so she can fix it!

Yes, her helpful nature might be good as she grows and matures-- for with age, she will never hesitate to volunteer herself and her rider for whatever needs to get done--but she can go a bit too far. If her rider is unhappy, she'll want to know why, and then try to fix it. If her rider is upset because someone hurt their feelings, Neuwith will confront them about it; if her rider is crushing on someone, Neuwith won't hesitate to try to get them to meet, never mind whether or not the other individual is available. This green loves to be of assistance, but too often, she finds herself meddling in the affairs of others and is prone to aggravating others. Trouble follows where Neuwith goes; not because she tries to cause problems, but because she just doesn't seem to know when to stop getting involved.

Neuwith can't help it. She just wants to know. This green is the sort of green who is nothing short of a gossip. If there's a rumor, she's going to talk about it to everyone she meets. If her rider has any secrets, this green isn't going to be very good about keeping them. She just loves to talk, and loves even more than that, to have people interested in her what she says; so by learning a little bit about everything, or keeping the gossip train rolling, Neuwith will never be without a circle of interested friends. When it comes to dragons who are in the know, right or wrong, lie or truth, this green will always be iin the know.

Positive Traits: Athletic, Active, Helpful
Negative Traits: Meddlesome, Gossip, Troublesome

Mint Chocolate Chip Egg: A medium sized egg that beckons you closer. This egg wants a better look, thanks!

Adult Size: 24'
Physical Attributes: Neuwith is average for a green, but delicately boned, and quite light in weight. Her legs are long, her tail strong, and her feet delicately small. She's a green who is all about agility on land and in the air; she moves gracefully, and can squeeze easily into tight places. She may not be the tiniest of greens, but she is certainly flexible!

Additional Notes: Neuwith is the sort of green who loves flights. Oh, she can't wait to begin to chase, and will love nothing more than to talk, talk, talk to all her suitors and spectators. Boys, girls, girls, boys, it's all the same to Neuwith; she just wants to be the talk of the Weyr and have a good story to tell afterwards! Rest assured, anyone who catches her will find themselves the talk of the Weyr simply because Neuwith will tell her fellows ALL about how they stacked up in the mating department... So hopefully, you fly this green well.

Also, Neuwith and Euxanth should never be left in a room together. These two greens know how to make nothing but talkative trouble!

Impression Effect: Taibbi, through Neuwith, is going to suddenly be quite aware of how important it is to be clean. Taking care of herself is just as important as taking care of Neuwith, because Neuwith will die if Hers doesn't stay healthy. This means bathing, brushing hair, teeth, and generally becoming the best rider they can be! This isn't just weyrling training forcing her to do it; Taibbi will simply wake up with renewed understanding that a healthy life is the best life. And Neuwith will certainly be there to help!

Why Me? Taibbi (princess_feylin)

Taibbi is going to find her life suddenly brightened by the presence of Neuwith. The first thing that drew this green over was just how hard-working Taibbi happens to be: always volunteering for some task, always helping out others, always being ever-reliable in the duties and assignments she's given. As an incredibly helpful creature, this paired up nicely with Neuwith's innate nature. This green will be like oil meeting fire, and it's safe to say that Neuwith and Taibbi will be all over aiding (or meddling) in their fellow weyrlings and future wingmates affairs. Neuwith wants so badly to be of good use, and will never outgrow her meddling... But there is hope Taibbi might help direct Neuwith's meddling more towards work and less towards personal drama.

Where Taibbi is stoic and serious, Neuwith is a talkative and friendly creature. She will help (see also force) Taibbi to find friends and good company; and if they are simply alone, this green will have no problem chattering to her to fill the quiet. While Neuwith might exhibit some behaviors Taibbi doesn't approve of, there are two opportunities for growth. To start, the girl might well be able to help break Neuwith of some of her worst habits, to round her out, and teach her when it's time to talk and when it's time to be serious. On the flipside, the girl might also come to ease up a little, and accept that no one is perfect, and not every heart needs to be changed--even if it's different than your own. There's more to life than fun and games, but life also doesn't have to be uptight and hidebound, either.

With Neuwith, Taibbi will find someone who is just as willing to fuss over her, as she's willing to fuss over others. Together, if a balance can be found, they should be able to grow up and mature into reliable wingmates--and if Taibbi ever wants to go farther, Neuwith will be the green to happily take her there!

Origin of Name: Snow leopards also have many names in the east where they live. In Nepal, snow leopards are called Heung chituwa; in Tibet they are Sah or Shen; in Russia and Mongolia they are Irbis, and in Urdu, one of the languages of central Asia, they are Barfani chita.

Saheth's name is inspired by the Tibet name Sah.

Inspiration: Snow Leopard

The snow leopard (Panthera uncia), also known as the ounce, is a large cat native to the mountain ranges of Central and South Asia. It inhabits alpine and subalpine zones at elevations from 3,000 to 4,500 meters ranging from eastern Afghanistan to Mongolia and western China. In the northern range countries, it also occurs at lower elevations.

Taxonomically, the snow leopard was long classified in the monotypic genus Uncia. Since phylogenetic studies revealed the relationships among Panthera species, it is considered a member of this genus. Two subspecies were described based on morphological differences, but genetic differences between the two have not been confirmed. It is therefore regarded a monotypic species.

Snow leopards are solitary animals, but share a common space. They are active mostly at dawn until early morning and again in afternoons and early evenings. They mostly rest near cliffs and ridges that provide vantage points and shade. The snow leopard's vocalizations include meowing, grunting, prusten, and moaning. It can purr when exhaling. It cannot roar, despite possessing partial ossification of the hyoid bone

The snow leopard's fur is whitish to gray with black spots on head and neck, but larger rosettes on the back, flanks and bushy tail. The belly is whitish. Its eyes are pale green or grey in color. Its muzzle is short and its forehead domed. Its nasal cavities are large. The fur is thick with hairs between 5 and 12 cm long. Its body is stocky, short-legged and slightly smaller than the other cats of the genus Panthera. Its canine teeth are more slender than those of the other Panthera species. In relation to the length of its skull and width of its palate, it has large nasal openings, which allow for increasing the volume of air inhaled with each breath, and at the same time for warming and humidifying cold dry air.

The snow leopard shows several adaptations for living in a cold, mountainous environment. Its small rounded ears help to minimize heat loss. Its broad paws well distribute the body weight for walking on snow, and have fur on their undersides to increase the grip on steep and unstable surfaces; it also helps to minimize heat loss. Its long and flexible tail helps to maintain balance in the rocky terrain. The tail is also very thick due to fat storage, and is very thickly covered with fur, which allows the cat to use it like a blanket to protect its face when asleep.

Personality: Saheth is a blue who plans on going places, so give him the wheel, and let him drive. He's a dragon who is large and in charge, and has no problem going after exactly what he wants and desires. More often than not, what he desires are the great pleasures of life; lots of food, lots of company, lots of affection, and His. He could easily be called a hedonist, and for the most part that's true; Saheth is a dragon who seeks out the best of everything, and why shouldn't he? He's a dragon of great taste, and doesn't see why he shouldn't get the best of everything.

But rest assured, Saheth is not a lazy blue, nor is he unwise. Saheth isn't content to simply sit back and enjoy the ride; no, if he wants the best, then he must claw his way up the chain to the very top. He's a dragon who isn't going to be content being in the background; no, Saheth has great desires and could easily see himself as a Wingsecond, Wingleader, and yes, eventually the Weyrleader. Regardless how his rider feels, Saheth knows he was hatched to lead; if they are going to live a life of luxury, than they need all the marks, respect, and love a high-powered position deserves. Saheth's proud enough not to simply laze about in the sun; no, he has great plans, and will drag His along the entire way until they have achieved their dreams.

Saheth has a bold heart, and carries himself with the knowledge that he's the best one in the room. He's not arrogant, but he is self-assured and fearless. There's no problem too big he and His can't solve; no trouble he can't get himself out of. He knows his skills, knows what he's made of, and he walks around like the Big Deal he feels himself to be.

Affectionate to the extreme, Saheth will love close-contact and cuddles with his rider; that said, he's not particularly discerning about who he gets affection from, period. His is by far superior, but he's not a shy dragon, and will happily push his snout and head up to anyone who might desire to give him scritches. Personal space, what's that? As long as he's allowed, Saheth won't be shy about touch or physical affection as a weyrling, and that won't likely ever change as he ages. What will change, though, are his desires. His hedonistic nature will mature into more carnal pleasures; he'll become far more sensuous, flirtatious, and desirous. Once he reaches maturity, this blue will be more than a little insatiable, especially once he actually catches someone. Every move he makes will turn from life's pleasures, to his pleasure. Honestly, he'll likely delight himself with multiple lovers at least until his Hearts can be secured. Many will come to find that everything Saheth does is with an end goal of pleasure in mind.

Ah, but Saheth is also a fiercely protective dragon. There is no one he loves more than His, and as affectionate and good-natured as this blue is, he will not let ANY touch a hair upon his rider's head. Should a clutchmate be in need, you can bet that Saheth will defend them with tooth and claw, or fight for them if he thinks they have been wronged. Rest assured, any who take this blue lightly will find a beast before them if one makes the wrong move. He likely won't like any of His' lovers, should he take one on, and he will not like those closest to him finding distractions in others.

Positive Traits: Ambitious, Affectionate, Bold
Negative Traits: Over-Protective, Decadent, Carnal

Candy Cane Egg: A medium egg that seems to exude nothing but confidence.

Adult Size: 30'
Physical Attributes: Saheth is on the larger side for a blue, but is certainly on the stocky side. His legs are on the shorter side, and his tail is longer than a blue dragon's should be. In fact, his tail is also a bit thicker, and this blue dragon will always be on the plumper side. There's just more of him to love! All that said, he's a handsome beast, and holds quite a bit more stamina than one might think. Plump though he might be, his wings are large and broad, and there is muscle beneath that softness.

Additional Notes: Saheth is a dragon who might secretly yearn to live in the mountains of High Reaches Weyr. Not, of course, that he thinks them better, but purely because of their location. He loves high, stony perches, cold weather, and snow. As he ages, he'll likely prefer his rider to take him to snowier, colder climes on their rest days as opposed to the beloved beaches.

Saheth is a beast that's all about pleasure, sensuality, and desire. He'll be a notorious contender; whether he catches the green in the race or not, won't matter to Saheth, for he's the type to always win. He'll happily catch one of the participants, or find himself in the claws of another. He has no trouble taking on many different lovers or casual relationships, though should he ever find The One, he'll become viciously protective. What's his is his, after all.

Impression Effect: Upon Impression, Kallian is going to find that his confidence--true confidence--has returned with vigor. While his anxieties might never fully go away, he will find himself less on a precarious edge. With Saheth at his side, and pouring an endless amount of love throughout his very being, he will be protected from any barbs or judgments others might cast. He is Saheth's everything, and that will have a profound effect on Kallian's fretful soul.

Why Me? Saheth and Kallian make a perfect match. Saheth is the sort of dragon who lives life full of pleasure, and that includes hanging around beautiful things. Could there ever be one as gorgeous as His Kallian? Oh, nevermind those Threadscores; those give him character, set him apart from all the other rubber-stamped beauties out there. The vanity that Kallian once possessed is still there--Saheth can recognize it--and he fully intends on reminding the man that he still IS beautiful... and, more importantly, is far better than he seems to believe!

For while there is a clear facade of confidence, Saheth isn't fooled. This blue knows that there is a man terrified of rejection, and he plans on being the only pillar of support Kallian might ever need. Never again will Kallian be tossed aside or not enough. Never again, will His be made to feel second rate, for Saheth has plans. Glorious plans. They will become a somebody, a someone, a big deal, whether Kallian wants to or not! Kallian's confidence will be matched equally with Saheth's, and this blue will make sure that it's more than a simple facade. Any anxieties or fears will be immediately pushed aside by Saheth; when Kallian stumbles, this blue will be there to catch him, and help him through.

There is no judgment from Saheth--nothing but love and devotion. On the flip side, Kallian is just the sort of individual who can tolerate, and perhaps even encourage, Saheth's endless affection. Additionally, the young man can keep Saheth in line should the blue begin to get too aggressive, too pushy, too much in another's space; Kallian's more down-to-earth-attitude should also be able to cut through Saheth's boldness. This blue believes himself to be number one, but Kallian has experience in handling how to get through life when dreams aren't realized. He knows what it's like when life doesn't work out, or things go sour, and should be able to help keep Saheth in check when life doesn't match the dragon's expectations.

Bronze Nimrath
Written by Mr Cheri
Colored by demon_pachabel

User Image

Origin of Name: Nimrath, from the Hebrew beth Nimrah, or mountains of the leopard.

Inspiration: Leopard

Personality: Although Nimrath struggles to budge himself from a comfortable ledge, he is deeply curious about what is going on down below! This bright, engaged young fellow has apparently never realized just how utterly unwelcome he is right in the thick of things, trying to be in the middle of whatever is going on. He is a relentless gossip, always fascinated by whatever rumor is currently making its rounds. Oh, does so and so look like she's shining, lately? Nimrath is there, lounging in indolent splendor in the spot with the most light, listening in and making judicious comments of his own. For indeed, he is quite an observant young beast, well able to track the details of this and that relationship, like some great web weaving in and out all through the Weyr.

Of course, Nimrath doesn't use this knowledge for anything particularly useful. He just likes being popular, and enjoying the fruits of his latest round of gossip. It's just... it's a fun game, all right? Nimrath can't help if it's all too easy to turn heads with this or that tidbit. Oh, didn't they know that so and so had recently flown that green? Nimrath did. He is charming, in his rather superficial way, and quite likable, if a deplorable gossip. One thing that can be said of him is that he absolutely cannot keep a secret. He's certainly tried, and he knows that some are more important than others, but the temptation to use some bit of hidden knowledge to his advantage would be just too much.

Perhaps it's inevitable, then, that some of Nimrath's friendships have been burnt rather permanently in the process. It's nothing personal, he promises, but... he can't keep quiet. Maybe this foible surfaced because he hatched a twin, and therefore always had someone to gossip with in the shell, someone who would never truly turn against him. Maybe it's something that he's developed over time. Whatever the reason, he has sadly been unable to rebuild bridges that have long since burned.

If he's a bit of a shallow creature, it really cannot be helped. After all, when one is quite so beautiful, one does maintain... certain standards. He wants nothing more than to be doted upon and delighted in, and if he can't have that, well... at least his beauty can be admired. If that means that his relationships have less depth than some others might, so be it. The important things is that eyes are on him and ears (head knobs) are listening to him. He wants so badly to be the center of attention that one might wonder whether he never had any in the egg. Which... well, is patently false.

Positive Traits: Charming, curious, observant
Negative Traits: Indolent, shallow, gossiping

Ace Flag Egg: A small egg that seems utterly, terribly, most magnificently... bored.

Adult Size: 35'
Physical Attributes: Nimrath is a sleek, but small bronze, close in size to his twin brother, who tops out at 31'. He's quite eye-catching, and well aware of it. Look a little longer, if you please. He'll just spread his shiny wings and show off just what a babe he is.

Additional Notes: This bronze would never actually give a lady a second glance, unless it was to find out what she was up to. Would likely only chase a queen if it meant babies for himself and whatever flight of fancy he happened to be enjoying at the moment. Even then, he's not precisely the paternal type, so that's not going to happen anytime soon. Ladies and gentlemen can both look, but Nimrath will be sharing his ledge with whatever the masculine flavor of the day happens to be. He hasn't dreamed of settling down yet, but it's not completely out of the picture. Maybe someday.

Impression Effect: Post-Impression, Wren will be better able to control his emotions. Since Nimrath is a bit slow to feel deep emotions in the first place, not that he's incapable of them, Wren will find a new ability to view situations with a bit more of a level head. At the same time, he's already a beauty to begin with, and Impressing to Nimrath is just going to heighten that. Watch out, world!

Why Me? Why not you, darling? Who else could understand Nimrath's needs and wants? Who else could get this shallow bronze, or be the perfect confidante? And frankly, dearest, Nimrath wants to see all of the beautiful things that Wren's been making. If he happens to feel they'd look better on him, well... he's not wrong. Nimrath adores Wren for his beauty and his perfectionist nature. They're both quite bright, so will be able to come up with all manner of entrancing things to discuss. Oh, he's so looking forward to this! Nimrath doesn't use his hearts quite as much as Wren does, which will give them a balancing point. Maybe it's for the best that they have differences, because if they were the same, they'd likely never get anything done.

Origin of Name: Galensith takes her name directly from part of the scientific name for the Leopard Cat, which is Prionailurus bengalensis.

Inspiration: Asian Spotted Leopard Cat

The leopard cat is the most widely distributed Asian small wild cat. Its range extends from the Amur region in the Russian Far East over the Korean Peninsula, China, Indochina, the Indian Subcontinent to northern Pakistan. It lives in tropical evergreen rainforests and plantations at sea level, in subtropical deciduous and coniferous forests in the foothills of the Himalayas at altitudes above 1,000 m (3,300 ft). It is able to tolerate human-modified landscapes with vegetation cover to some degree, and inhabits agriculturally used areas such as oil palm and sugar cane plantations

Historically, the leopard cat of continental Asia was considered the same species as the Sunda leopard cat. As of 2017, the latter is recognized as a distinct species, with the taxonomic name Prionailurus javanensis.

Leopard cat subspecies differ widely in fur colour, tail length, skull shape and size of carnassials. Archaeological evidence indicates that the leopard cat was the first cat species domesticated in Neolithic China about 5,000 years ago in Shaanxi and Henan Provinces.

A leopard cat is about the size of a domestic cat, but more slender, with longer legs and well-defined webs between its toes. Its small head is marked with two prominent dark stripes and a short and narrow white muzzle.

Leopard cats are solitary, except during breeding season. Some are active during the day, but most hunt at night, preferring to stalk murids, tree shrews and hares. They are agile climbers and quite arboreal in their habits. They rest in trees, but also hide in dense thorny undergrowth on the ground.

Personality: Galensith lives for social interactions. Her preference is for other dragons, but she enjoys the company of firelizards too, particularly those bonded to her rider. Even the odd human will do if no one else is available. It’s far too easy for this dragon to get lonely, and if that’s the case, she’ll go seek out new company.

For a dragon, Galensith is particularly chatty. She loves to talk. She loves to hear herself talk, and she’ll be known to carry on one-sided conversations with firelizards if there’s no one else around. If anyone even pretends to be listening, Galensith will be happy to talk their ear off.

All of her talking will lead to this green being unusually articulate. She’s very good with expressing her ideas, thoughts, and feelings to others. Galensith is always ready to pick up new words as well; which can sometimes be difficult when she’s the one always talking.

One thing this green Does Not Like is to be shushed or told to be quiet. Galensith will talk when she wants to talk! She gets irascible when someone tries to quiet her. It will be difficult for her to be silent and listen to others, particularly when someone is giving directions.

Galensith is a sweetheart. Some may say too sweet, she’ll give you a toothache. This green wants to be friends with everyone, even the grumpy ones. It is terminally hard to discourage this green. Galensith will always be willing to lend a wing to anyone, dragon, human, or flitter who needs one.

One of the few times Galensith isn’t talking is when she’s going to the extreme. This green is a definite adrenaline junkie. She loves to speed race or participate in extreme aerobatics. Once she starts flying, Galensith will be a terror in the skies. She is always looking for a bigger and better thrill.

Galensith is a goal getter. She sets her sights on her target and then does her best to reach it. She is a steady green, and even if it takes a while she still stay the course to see her goal completed. It can be tremendously difficult to call her off of a target and it will be up to her rider to get her to stand down when things start getting dangerous. She will push herself during threadfall and need to be reminded to rest every now and then.

When she is given a task, this green is very much an over-achiever. You want one hour flight training? She’ll give you two! Galensith always strives for 120% in whatever duties she’s given. This green will definitely give it her all to go above and beyond.

Positive Traits: Social, goal getter, articulate, sweet
Negative Traits: over-achiever, chatty, extreme, irascible

Adult Size: 20’
Physical Attributes: Galensith is a sleek green with long wings, great for aerial maneuverability. She does best with short bursts of high energy, as her stamina isn’t the best.

Additional Notes: She might flirt before or during flights, but there will only ever be one blue for her, Solouth. Belonging to L'saen, Rinis' weyrmate.

Mystery Egg 1: When touched, this egg is simply bursting with things to tell you, so you’d better listen!

Impression Effect: Rinis is going to find herself filled with new confidence. The inhibitions she felt around bronze and metallic riders will be washed away tenfold; and while she might find herself a little out of sorts around a particularly handsome one, for the most part, her confidence is going to better allow her to find her tongue.

Why Me? Galensith knew she’d found the perfect party match in Rinis. These two girls both share a love for parties and social get-togethers. While Rinis might find herself inarticulate at moments, Galensith can certainly more than make up for it. They both have a sense of duty, and Rinis will need to make sure Galensith doesn’t get carried away in hers. Galensith’s goal getting may rub off on the young woman and jolt her out of simply accepting the status-quo.

Offensive Hero

Bronze Biralath
Written by Mr Cheri
Colored by MaraRune

User Image

Origin of Name: Biralath, from the Bengali word Biṛāla, meaning "cat." Bengali is the most commonly spoken language in Kolkata, once the capital of the British ruled India. Now known as the cultural capital of India, Kolkata is the capital of West Bengal. Renowned for its splendid architectural features, the city is a center for the arts and the sciences, earning the name "City of Joy." Fishing cats are known to roam through the West Bengal region, along with numerous other areas in South and Southeast Asia.

Inspiration: Fishing Cat

The fishing cat's coat is a camouflaged gray-brown with distinctive black spots and stripes. Six to eight black lines run from the cat's forehead to its neck, breaking up into shorter bars and spots on its shoulders. Its cheeks have white highlights and black marks, and its eyes are ringed with white fur. The ears are short and round, and the back of the ears are black. When viewed from the front, they have a distinctive white spot in the center.

The fishing cat's nose is pink or deep-brick in color. Its lips, chin, belly and throat are white with gray spots. The fur on its underside is longer and spotted. Its low-set, muscular tail is shorter than a domestic cat's and ringed with six or seven incomplete dark bands, distinguishing it from the leopard cat.

This cat is powerfully built with short limbs and a stocky body. Its head is round and elongated. Unlike many cats, fishing cats readily swim. Their front toes are partially webbed and their claws protrude slightly even when retracted. This facilitates the capture of prey, especially while underwater.

Another unique adaptation for their semiaquatic lives is the structure of their fur. A compact, dense layer of fur right against the cat’s skin is composed of tightly packed strands of hair, which prevents water from reaching the cat’s skin, keeping it warm in chilly waters. Long guard hairs protrude from this coat, giving the fishing cat its unique pattern.

The fishing cat is one of the largest of the 28 species of small cats. This robust, deep‐chested cat has a body length of 33-45 inches (85-115 centimeters) and stands over 16 inches (40 centimeters) at shoulder height. The adult male weighs 18-31 pounds (8-14 kilograms), whereas the female is slightly smaller and weighs about 11-20 pounds (5-9 kilograms).

The fishing cat's natural range is unknown, but it is currently found across South and Southeast Asia. The western reaches of its range extend into Pakistan, cutting east to Cambodia. The northern part of its range extends to the Himalayan foothills, which runs south to Sri Lanka and Thailand.

Reports of fishing cats are sporadic and, in a few cases, unreliable. But camera traps have confirmed their presence in some parts of their range, including some protected areas in India, along the coast of Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and in the Mekong Delta of Vietnam. The last recorded camera trap capture in Vietnam was in 2000. There are reports of fishing cats spotted in urban areas of Sri Lanka. Separate reports place fishing cats in the north coast of Java, but biologists have not seen the species there since, and the population known to live in Ujung Kulon National Park died from poisoning in 2006.

Fishing cats are generally found in wetland areas, such as marshes, swamps and mangrove forests. Their habitat is also linked with species of rodents that they eat, particularly the sensu lato (Rattus rattus). In some parts of the fishing cat’s range, these rodents intersect with areas that are rapidly urbanizing.

Fishing cats can also be seen in cultivated grasslands and agricultural areas with standing water. More recent studies show a rising population of fishing cats in more urban areas. This may not be the result of fishing cats extending their range into urban areas, but rather the encroachment of human development into the wetland areas they rely on.

Personality: A quiet but thoughtful bronze, Biralath often finds himself withdrawing from company in order to contemplate the deeper meaning of the world. He has a the soul of an artist, although not the hands, and will likely take a great deal of enjoyment out of the finer things in life, particularly music. Although he may not be the most arrogant and powerful of bronzes, he is nonetheless a worthy creature, with aspirations of making the world a better place. He sees beauty in the chaos, potential in the unknown. Those who believe themselves nothing are capable of anything, if only they look a little longer.

Granted, Biralath doesn't quite know how to convey this certainty to others, as he is not the most social of dragons. Not that he doesn't want to be, but he takes comfort in poetry and philosophy, sentiments espoused by others whose words he can call upon when he has none of his own. Were he capable of reading, he would no doubt spend his days lost in study. As it is, he turns to the wisdom of his elders to learn the limits of his world. Yet he cannot quite believe that any venture is totally lost, even if he's told not to pursue it. He'll tend toward daydreaming about its success all the same.

When it comes to bonding with others, he'll make grand gestures. If his rider has deep pockets, they will undoubtedly be called upon to buy a present for so and so, because Biralath doesn't know how to make friends. He believes, in fact, that such gestures have more value than his own actions and words. This is because at his heart he is not the most confident of dragons. He longs to be surrounded by friends, but does not have the faintest clue of how to begin making friendship bonds in the first place. He'll be baffled when he's given admiration without seemingly earning it, should such a thing come to pass.

His general lack of grace when it comes to these matters tends to lead the bronze down solitary pathways, will he nil he. He must, he feels, content himself with his own presence and that of his rider because it is unlikely that anyone else would willingly put themselves out on his account. A fussy little creature, he abhors feeling awkward, and will do anything he can to avoid losing face. That is likely to make training quite a chore, as there is no guarantee that he will perform admirably in every respect, and a much higher likelihood that he will ultimately fail to meet his own high expectations.

Positive Traits: Artistic, philosophical, erudite
Negative Traits: Solitary, exacting, awkward

Blue Spotted Egg: A medium that seems to be pondering something very deeply. It's not clear whether it has noticed your approach.

Adult Size: 46'
Physical Attributes: Biralath is long rather than excessively large in his proportions, yet... he is on the large size, all the same. Not the most well muscled among his siblings, this bronze is quite comfortable with his slightly softer build.

Additional Notes: While everyone else was busy making friends, Biralath was pondering the deep mysteries of life. He still has a distant fondness for his siblings, although it is not too much stronger than his fondness for anyone. Of course, when it comes to his rider, the bronze has an endless supply of love and adoration. Far more likely to bond with a mate on a mental level, he does feel the stirring of desire when a Flight occurs, but it's totally a mark toss whether he'll join in the Chase. Because his perfect match would be a meeting of minds, he does not care what color they might come in.

Impression Effect: Kateleel, upon Impression, will simply exude masculinity. He has always been a man, and Biralath has absolutely no doubt about that. But now it will be obvious to anyone that meets him, and Kateleel will never need to go to a mindhealer about his gender again. He will have a new surge of confidence in himself that is catching.

Why Me? There were many things about Kateleel that drew Biralath to him. He was the perfect match for Biralath's intellect, and possessed a certain charming quality that the bronze could not resist. When he felt Kateleel's fear at the sight of his twin sisters, he knew in his hearts that he must overcome it and show him that he is and always has been the man of Biralath's dreams. Not only is Kateleel a rider, but he is a bronzerider - more importantly, he is Biralath's rider. What he loves so much about his rider is that the man knows how to work hard, and knows the true joy that can come from mental work. Together they will solve puzzles that Pern has never before dreamed of, and Biralath cannot wait to get started.

Origin of Name: Shanath, from the Mandarin Chinese 山 shān, meaning mountain.

Inspiration: Chinese Mountain Cat

The Chinese mountain cat (Felis bieti), also known as Chinese desert cat and Chinese steppe cat, is a wild cat endemic to western China that has been listed as Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List since 2002, as the effective population size may be fewer than 10,000 mature breeding individuals.

It was provisionally classified as a wildcat subspecies with the name F. silvestris bieti in 2007. It is recognized as a valid species since 2017, as it is morphologically distinct from wildcats.

A small stocky built cat with relatively short legs, the Chinese Mountain cat weighs between 10-20 pounds and is between 38.5-47 inches long. Its coat is long and dense with abundant underfur. The color is pale gray in winter and darker brown in summer, and the backs are somewhat darker than the rest of the body. It has indistinct stripes on the sides and legs, and the ears have small tufts. The backs of the ears are the same dark color as the back, and have a pale reddish-brown area below each ear. They have a relatively short tail which has 5-6 dark gray bands and a black tip.

Males and females both make their homes in burrows, with the females’ being deeper and more secure than the males’, and they only have one entrance. Primarily nocturnal, the majority of their diet is rodent-based (mole rats, white-tailed pine vole, and pikas), but also includes birds (mostly pheasants). The hunt by listening for the mole rats movements through tunnels and then dig them out.

The Chinese mountain cat is endemic to China and lives on the north-eastern edge of the Tibetan Plateau. It was recorded only in eastern Qinghai and north-western Sichuan. It inhabits high-elevation steppe grassland, alpine meadow, alpine shrubland and coniferous forest edges between 2,500 and 5,000 m (8,200 and 16,400 ft) elevation. It has not been confirmed in true desert or heavily forested mountains.

Personality: As optimistic as they come, Shanath does not believe in unwinnable scenarios. She does, however, believe in challenges, and works quite hard to overcome them. Any failure is only a temporary setback, as Shanath is bound and determined to beat the odds. Never tell her the odds! This general can-do attitude is paired with a sweet disposition that is honestly hard to resist. She's a gentle, caring creature who does her best.

Although she knows that she isn't the only one charged with protecting Pern, you'd certainly think that she was based off of her behavior. Inclined to coddle at the best of times, Shanath can be terribly prone to smothering those under her care. It's all done with the best of intentions! She just genuinely believes that one shouldn't leave a sufferer alone, especially when they've been so brave up until now, carrying on without her. She'll do everything she can to make someone happy, never quite realizing that she might be causing some stress with her excessive nurturing tendencies.

Speaking of excessive, it appears that no one had that personal space conversation with Shanath, as she tends to be both very clingy and very inclined to invading that space. It can't be helped; she just doesn't have the same sort of awareness of boundaries that others seem to possess. It's not meant maliciously, she simply cannot imagine not wanting closeness. If rebuffed, Shanath may take it to hearts. She doesn't know what she did wrong, but please let her try to make it up to you!

One thing that she is particularly good at is keeping track of tasks. That goes back to her mothering tendencies - she is always aware of what so and so needs to be doing at any given time, as she'll, of course, need to be right in the middle of things sorting it out if need be. And why would she leave them alone to muddle through on their own? Perish the thought! Shanath would rather walk over hot coals than let someone else down, and that even comes into play where her diligence in lessons and drills is concerned. And Faranth forbid that she ever forgot someone's Nameday! Her rider would never hear the end of it.

Positive Traits: Determined, caring, multi-tasking
Negative Traits: Mollycoddling, interfering, clingy

Mystery Egg 3: This small egg possesses a strong, comforting aura.

Adult Size: 22'
Physical Attributes: Shanath is a dragon who has short legs, a short tail, and short wings! Thankfully, the rest of her seems relatively in proportion. She's a bit small for a green, though not at all as small as some of her sisters.

Additional Notes: Shanath is a green who is going to enjoy flights, but those who catch her will find themselves more than welcome to stay. She's a bit of a clingy green, and will fall in love easy. Her rider will need to comfort her hearts should they be broken, at least until she finds her true one and only.

When she flies thread, her short wings might require her to flap a bit more than some of her sisters, but she will be a champ when it comes to making tight turns!

Impression Effect: Although Marinel will always love D'mar, with Shanath at his side he will have a newfound independence. He will have the confidence that he has always seen in D'mar, and no need to be afraid of losing those he loves. For Shanath loves him to distraction, and always will.

Why Me? Shanath sees in Marinel a rider just as worthy as his twin brother. But unlike D'mar, Marinel has a sweet and good nature, something that Shanath treasures above gold. She knows that he has deeper strength than he's ever allowed himself to feel or show, and has the tools needed to bring that out in him. Never again will Marinel ever be in his brother's shadow, for he has Shanath, for now and always. For her part, Shanath needs Marinel's love, for she is likely to stretch her giving hearts almost beyond capacity, and he alone can ease them when they are broken.

Brown Yoneth

Origin of Name: Yoneth is named after the famous Irimote cat Yon. Yon was hit by a car on August 6, 1996 then rehabilitated at the Iriomote Wildlife Conservation Center. He died on April 9, 2011 at the estimated age of fifteen years and one month, the longest confirmed lifespan of any Iriomote cat.

Yon was permanently handicapped after his accident; his left paw was paralyzed, and he tended to move towards the right.

Yon was the first Iriomote cat to be kept for an extended period of time, the only to be saved after an accident, and the first to go through rehabilitation. Other Iriomote cats that were rescued either died immediately or shortly after being brought in for care. Additionally, though he was never returned to the wild, his care and life in captivity means he's the bst example of the cats' natural behavior. Due to difficulties observing them in the wild, and very few cases of the cats being cared for by people, the records of his health care will help injured and sick Iriomote cats in the future.

Inspiration: Iriomote Cat

The Iriomote cat (Prionailurus bengalensis iriomotensis) is a subspecies of the leopard cat that lives exclusively on the Japanese island of Iriomote. It has been listed as critically endangered on the IUCN Red List since 2008, as the only population comprises fewer than 250 adult individuals and is considered declining. As of 2007, there were an estimated 100–109 individuals remaining.

Iriomote consists predominantly of low mountains ranging 300–460 m (980–1,510 ft) in elevation with sub-tropical evergreen forest, including extensive belts of mangrove along the waterways. It is the smallest habitat of any wild cat species in the world. They prefer areas near rivers, forest edges, and places with low humidity. Iriomote cats are terrestrial, but climb trees, go into the water and also swim. They are nocturnal and especially active during twilight hours. During the daytime, they sleep in tree hollows or in caves.

Iriomote cats are usually solitary. Their home range varies seasonally and also individually, and is smaller during the mating season. The cats are also territorial. Home ranges of males and females overlap, and one to two females live within a male's home range. Typically, home ranges of same gender cats will not overlap, but partial overlaps are seen. Often, these small overlaps are hunting grounds. It is thought that they patrol their territories during three to four days, marking and hunting as they go.

Young male Iriomote cats and some adult cats are transient, wandering over the island and waiting for an open home range slot that they can occupy by marking this area. Female cats allow their young to stay in their own home range and mark a new territory once the next breeding season comes.

Personality: You will never find a more honest dragon than Yoneth--and that, in itself, is often a problem. This brown dragon has a tendency to speak his mind freely, openly, and doesn't pull his punches when it comes to the truth. If you don't want his honest opinion than you had better not ask! Of course, Yoneth doesn't mean to be cruel with his words, but he can be quite careless as far as feelings go. His need to speak the truth, married to his natural practicality, means that feelings aren't often part of his equation.

This isn't to say he's heartless, not at all! Yoneth knows love through his rider, and adores them above all else; he knows pride through his Weyr; he knows duty thanks to the return of Thread. This dragon has feelings, he just tends to be less emotional than some. At his best, his presence could be considered calming, at least when he's inclined to offer assurance or peace to another. While some of his clutchmates might be prone to uncertainty or anxiety, Yoneth is always a steady presence and doesn't get overly upset or stressed. When things go bad, Yoneth can usually come through with a clear head and can be leaned upon by those who get tangled up in panic; it is a rare instance indeed when Yoneth is unsure of himself. Even as a hatchling, this brown has always been centered and calm. He is a brown who knows his place in the world, and knows what he can offer Pern. That said, his rider will know that there are gentle and tender hearts deep within the brown; he just isn't always great at showing them so readily.

A solemn character, this brown tends to be on the serious side. He has a good heart, but isn't known to be the warmest of beings. Yes, he is reliable, but his practicality almost goes too far, and keeps him a touch too serious. No one ever promised you a rose garden, and he isn't afraid to say as much. Life is tough, and Yoneth seems to wear the weight of it upon his shoulders. He isn't here to be sweet, or adorable; he is here to fight Pern's ancient enemy, and to ensure his rider and he succeed in their duties. This attitude, along with a carelessness of others feelings, means he can drive away friends or allies; or hurt those he cares about most. He doesn't know how to be tactful and certainly doesn't know how to curb his tongue. His rider will need to try to help him navigate the waters of when to speak, and when it's best to say nothing at all. His rider will also come to know that sometimes, Yoneth's solemn nature, does weigh heavy on the brown, who might quietly ache to be accepted for who he is as a whole.

Yoneth is also known to be quite territorial. Western Weyr is his home, and that will never change. There is no place else in the world he would deign to be, so if his rider wishes to leave the Weyr or transfer out, they will find firm and potentially aggressive resistance. Once assigned his own ledge or wallow, you can bet Yoneth will be quite vocal about it being his. His weyr, and you had better have an invitation to perch upon it, lest face his ire. This brown, for all his practicality and steady nature, does not often like to share. While he might be convinced to do so, he will do it grudgingly, and likely drive others out as soon as he's able. When it comes to outsiders and individuals who aren't loyal to Western Weyr, Yoneth looks upon them with great suspicion and mistrust.

Any mates he might take on as an adult might well find themselves run out of his weyr, because it is HIS, not theirs. It would take a true love to open him up to the idea of sharing. His carelessness with others feelings might mean he unintentionally breaks hearts or turn others off by being too honest or forthright. Additionally, should anyone start looking at his rider too closely or as a long term interest, will find a very unhappy and snarling brown.

Positive Traits: Honest, Practical, Steady
Negative Traits: Territorial, Careless, Solemn

Nanner Egg: A small egg that seems to exude a calm air about it.

Adult Size: 30'
Physical Attributes: Yoneth is quite small for a brown, with a delicate frame to match. He's built more like the greens and blues of the Weyr than the heavier bronzes or larger browns. He is thin and sleek, and prone to under-eating; his rider will need to ensure this picky eater is actually eating enough!

Additional Notes: Yoneth is particularly fond of sea wherries. While mountain wherries tend to be more common in in the Weyr, due to a perceived better flavor, Yoneth will always have a taste for the rarer selection.

When it comes to flights, Yoneth is much more swift and agile. He'll likely have a preference for chasing the smaller greens than golds. Not only are they often substantially larger and heaver than him, but he will struggle to keep up with long flights. Territorial, Yoneth tends to dislike heavy competition, and if he is the chosen suitor, he will likely not wish to share them.

Impression Effect: Vesden will find that from the moment Yoneth chose him, he will stand taller, have renewed and even doubled confidence, and find that any doubts or worries he had about his sexuality, or how others perceive him, will be melted away by nothing but unending support. Yoneth will be his pillar in all things, and will keep him shielded from the world's scorn.

Why Me? Vesden (Lothwolf)

Vesden's innate practicality is what initially drew Yoneth's interest. This brown liked that Vesden is a bit more realistic about the world; no one will simply give them what they want, they must work hard to earn it. Nothing in life comes free, after all, and Yoneth appreciates that his rider has come to understand such things and lives with a more realistic ideal. This brown dragon will come to enjoy discussing the world with His, ever interested in seeing how close their perspectives match, and having intellectual conversations when their views cross. Vesden's steady presence matches well with Yoneth's own, and both can compliment one another nicely. When Yoneth is feeling particularly territorial or aggressive due to someone stepping into his space, Vesden can better temper his brown, or at least be a voice of reason; on the flipside, when Vesden begins to worry about things getting done right, or begins to get overly fussy, Yoneth's steady presence can hopefully soothe such woes.

Vesden was exactly the sort of individual Yoneth craved. Vesden's compassionate nature will be a good influence on Yoneth, who has always struggled to mince his words or views of others. His rider will be able to help balance Yoneth's careless attitude, and bring warmth to an overly-serious and overly-practical dragon. Vesden will help draw a more caring side out of Yoneth, even as Yoneth can be truly himself around His without judgment or ire. Yoneth knows he isn't always everyone's favorite dragon, primarily due to his overly-honest nature; but Vesden will never turn him away, and Yoneth will never let the other down. Never will Vesden need to feel scorned again, for his Yoneth will be at his side, forever and for always.
