Well, generally, not letting them bite you the first time is a good idea, as once they taste blood they turn into vampires!!! but, if you are having a biting problem, you could dip your fingers in vinegar or other unsavory things like hot sauce. It doesn't hurt them, but they certainly don't like it.....

A nicer way would be to handle them with gloves, but that doesn't solve the problem.....

After a while, though, it should reduce their biting nature, as they aren't accomplishing anything.

Washing your hands is another clear fire way to maker he stop seeing them as snacks. We touch a lot of things during the day, and sometimes all hamsters smell is the food.

Picking her up a lot will also get her more used to the idea.

She bit me when I tried to pet her while she was grooming, so I don't think I'll be wiser about when I bother her next time. Also my PTSD from the bite is wearing off so when I get a chance tonight or tomorrow I'll try getting friendly with her again. Only slowly this time. I'm still nervous about outright picking her up. This time, we'll take it reeeeal slow. > u>

I could never get my hamsters to stop biting me. If they did it too much, I just stuck them in their little plastic ball and let them run around my room as punishment. I don't think they got the fact that they were being punished.
