Today I was posed with a quote "The aim of education should be to teach us rather how to think, than what to think - rather to improve our minds, so as to enable us to think for ourselves, than to lead the memory with thoughts of other men." Bill Beattie.
That quote... I am speechless. Bull Beattie seems to have have taken the very essence of my philosophical beliefs and compressed their wisdom into a quote. I find that one of the most detrimental plagues, yet greatest virtues of the Human Race is that we, unlike other beings build out knowledge & achievements over that of our ancestors instead of starting from scratch at every generation.
This trait has given us the ability to truly transcend above the feral status of most creatures that dwell in our planet. However, this also propels poisonous lies and corruption through the cycle of human advancement.
To think for yourself is to generate unrivaled insight. It gives us the ability to reject values that others attempt to force upon us. It gives way to a true independent thinker.
Then again, humans hear what they wish to; that is what I've done with this quote. Yet, it's my own thoughts formulated into this passage, not another's.
