A day in the life of Princess Orphelia
The day after the operation.

So it's been almost 24 hours since the breast cancer operation. Although before I get into all that, let me go back to that day.

Our appointment for the surgery was at 8am, so we get there at 7.30am...Waiting for a bit, before they call us to another part of the hospital for more tests. These tests took a good 3 hours, so that the doctors can find the Lymph nodes and mark them, to make it easier for the surgery.

Then about 12pm lunch time, they take my mum in for surgery. And this is where panic stations come in. Although we were told the surgery would take around an hour, it seemed like mum was in there forever. My palms were sweating, and every half hour I was outside having a smoko to stay calm. When I wasn't outside smoking, I was pacing across the waiting room back and forth. Lucky for me, I had my aunt to try and calm me down. We had a few cries too, just to let it all out.

At about 2.30pm, we get called into the patient rooms, to finally see mum. She was wide awake and having a laugh, which was good. And she wasn't in any kind of pain at all, which is also good.

I always thought that before a patient goes home, after the surgery, that the doctor makes a visit to tell us the outcome of the surgery and how it all went. But it didn't happen. So I asked the nurses, will we get some kind of explanation about the surgery? She replied, it will be explained to you after mum has something to eat, just before she leaves to go home. sweatdrop

So later at about 4pm, she finally got out of bed, got dressed and we headed to the ward where they feed the patients. In comes this nurse with a piece of paper, explaining how we're meant to contact the doctor and make an appointment to get our results of the operation. I asked this nurse, can't you just tell us anything that can help ease this a bit. Any information at all? I also explained that the frustration and everything else, is really making me a nervous wreck. She replied, Nope? The doctor will see you, after you make that appointment, and explain everything you need to know.

So we come home, and I pick up that phone, and make the appointment. The doctors secretary told us, that the appointment is next Thursday which is about 8 days from today. Dear God, I can't wait that long, to find out the results. It's driving me crazy.

So that's about all I have at this stage, no answers at all, just patience until our next visit. sweatdrop

If you read this, please don't send me comments or PM's as I won't be able to reply to them, instead, please write all your well wishes in here.

Lets all hope and pray that our visit will have good results..

Darling friend, Gaian Princess, I can only guess that the doc didn't want to worry about something he/she wasn't sure about and 8 days is probably about the fastest they can get results about possibility of a cancer sample to be sent off to be examined to know if it is benign? That is how I would read what's going on. Some docs, get so busy, they forget their people skills. I've watched the TV Series House starring Hugh Laurie to know some can be like that. I was told, he was going to try and go on tour for his singing and playing piano hits.

So, try and stay busy (easier said then done) and I'm sending a prayer up for both of you precious ones!!!

    Love ya,
    ang
