Happy Halloween, SDRPers!
Our esteemed Captain is super stoked for this year’s SDRP Halloween Event! But, he's been so busy with the madness of planning all the fun for you guys, he forgot to pick out his costume for this year. He needs your help in finding the perfect outfit. Don’t worry, he plans to make it a win-win situation. Read on to find out how!
The Challenge:
Swanky-looking duds are great ‘n all, but our Captain really wants you to sell it to him! Give your ensembles a history, a back-story, something that’ll grab his attention and make him wanna declare, “That’s it! That’s the one! Shut up and take my money!”
ANNOUNCEMENTS: October 5th, 2014 1 - SDRP Crew & Fellow CAs, I've got three available chairs on the Judges Panel PM Thornwick if you're interested.
Rules:
1. Please filled out the Reservation Form (found near the bottom of this post) to reserve a slot for your desired category; once you've made your reservation, you have until the deadline to submit your entry. 2. Contestants are limited to one entry, each. These categories are predicted to go quickly, so keep an eye out for those available slots. 3. Once you’ve reserved your slot and category, use this base to create your Halloween ensembles. 4. Both the avatar ensemble and written piece must be original and of your own design; follow the theme and be creative. 5. Written pieces must suit the avatar and category, with a 150 to 300 word-count. 6. Please use complete sentences/paragraphs and proper usage of punctuation and grammar; entries written with "l33t/text-speak" and/or OoC format are subject to rejection. Don’t forget to title it and, please, follow the three-act format (a beginning, middle, and end). 7. Fill out the Entry Form (found near the bottom of this post) with your avatar creations and written pieces, then PM the form to Thornwick with the subject "SDRP's HW-2k14 Tektek-Writing Contest". Entries not following this specification are subject to rejection. 8. Entries with sexual content will be swiftly rejected. 9. All entries must be received by Oct. 24th, 2014. Note: If the slots have not been filled by the deadline, we may grant contestants a grace period of our choosing. 10. If you made your reservation, but are unable to participate (for any reason), please PM Thornwick to retract your reservation before the deadline; this gives other creative hopefuls a shot at the contest.
Winners will be announced Oct. 31st, 2014, and the guild captain will wear the "Best Overall" entry this Halloween! Note: Depending on the overall cost, the mule may or may not wear the winning outfit. But, hey--the winner still gets to walk away with some pretty snazzy prizes.
Categories and Additional Info:
Information:
There are three (3) categories to choose from with three (3) slots per category; total of (9) slots available, altogether. Once again, contestants are limited to one entry, each. Once all the entries have been received by the 24th, the judges will deliberate and the winners will be announced Oct. 31st. A winner and second place will be selected for each category, and one entry out of the whole lot (9) will be declared “Best Overall”.
Here are your categories:
*Monster Mash- Think black and white films! Use the base to create a classic-movie monster (Dracula, the Wolf-man, etc.) Then, with your writing expertise, paint us a picture of your monster in action. Make us laugh, make us cry, make us ready our pitchforks and torches!
*Black & Orange- You can't get anymore festive than that classic color-duo. The possibilities are endless, so be creative! Come up with an original ensemble and then spin us the back-story behind it! Note: Accent colors (such as red, white, yellow, green, and purple) are fine to a degree, but please remember that black and orange are the dominant colors of the outfit.
*Spookiest Avatar- What’s that figure out of the corner of your eye? The footsteps behind you that stop once you look over your shoulder? The cold-spot in that dank, dark basement? Using the base and literary prowess, create the hair-raising source of your paranoia.
