Welcome One And All To The Elements' Writing Contest!!

This contest is now closed for join requests.

This will be a simple contest. I give you a prompt, you write a story, we judge, you, maybe, win.

There will be several rounds during this contest. How many rounds will depend on how many contestants I have.

My original idea was to send people home each round, however, I've been thinking.
One of the main points of my contest is to help others become better writers,
and how will they do that if they keep getting sent home?
So, My judges and I have devised a point system to judge the entries and at the end of the contest we will tally the points and choose a winner or winners.

The point system is posted in the prompt section.

If you wish to join, just fill out this little form:

Feel free to change the colors.

Thanks to a generous donation by Darkstarzz
And because I keep getting gold when I post.

Mostly the general stuff.

• Be nice to others.
• Don't pester other people.
• Follow Gaia rules.
• Blah blah blah.

But also.

• No plagiarizing.
• Your entries must be properly written.
• I do not want entries with bad grammar, tons of run ons, and full of chat speak.
• Meaning, use your words, dnt tlk lik ur chtng it up thru txt.
• Granted, even I am horrible at grammar and spelling, so I won't be too hard on you.
• I do not mind if you want to share advice and criticism, but ask the author's permission first and be nice about it.
• Anyone may join, but please do not join and run away.

Entries

• Entries can be posted in the Entry Thread.
• You may also host them on an external site. However, they must be time stamped.
• I don't want something you wrote five years ago because it just happens to match the prompt.
• I have no word limit. I just don't want a book submited as an entry. Keep it within reason.

~~FIRST PROMPT~~
In a post apocalyptic world, our hero has just suffered a great loss, but there won't be time to grieve. The hero has learned something they were not supposed to know, and now they must escape those who wish to make them "forget"......

Due date has passed.

~~SECOND PROMPT~~

A dead body, a mysterious murder, and a group of people who want answers.
Who was killed? Who killed them? And is the killer still among them? eek

Due date has passed.

~~THIRD PROMPT~~

There is a magical artifact that has been lost for generations. Someone wants it for their own personal gain. What is this artifact? What power does it hold? Who wants it, and what will they do when they have it?

Due Date has passed.

How We Grade Your Story:

This is the agreed upon point system.

Character development-25
Story Setup-20
Descriptive Writing-20
Topic Match-15
General Enjoyment-10
General Grammer-10

It is a scale from 1 to the highest number with the highest number being very good.

Character development is basically how in depth the character is. Can you relate to them? Do they have a personality? Or are they just bland and do nothing but do the actions and speak? Do they follow their general personality traits? Do they do things out of character?

Story setup is how the story begins. How well does it draw you in? Is it creative? Does it set the stage for the rest of the story?

Descriptive writing is how the descriptions are done. The descriptions should paint images in the readers' heads of the surroundings, people, places, and actions.

Topic Match is how well the story matches the topic.

General enjoyment is basically how much the reader (the judges) enjoys the story as a whole. This is completely biased.

General Grammer is how well the Grammer was written. This scores how literate the story is. If the Grammer and spelling is just absolutely awful, you will get a low score.

you get x amount of points out of a possible n from each category.
Each judge will judge each entry separately.
The points from each category from each judge will be averaged for a final grade.
You will have 100 possible points.
There will be several rounds.
At the end of the contest, the points will be tallied and winners will be selected.

~~A Little About Me~~

Username: Shiro Mezidoria
Nickname: Shiro or Ro

I have been writing since 9th grade. I love to write. I prefer fantasy/scifi stories over real life or nonfiction as I prefer to immense myself into stories in order to escape real life.

I had joined another writing contest, but our hosted disappeared sometime around the end of march, so I created this contest to give the contestants something to do. And i just kind of wanted to host a contest for once.

So I hope everyone enjoys themselves while they're here. If you have any questions or comments, feel free to ask.

Since I wanted to use this contest to help others improve their writing skills, I have also added advice sections. Instead of posting the large paragraphs here, I will provide links for reference and as short cuts so no one has to go looking for them. Darkstarzz is also adding his own comments, so be sure to read after them to find his additional advice.

1st Advice is on Emotion in Stories.

Darkstarzz, if you still want to judge I'd love your help.

I'd actually like two more judges if anyone's interested.

A little about you if you want: I've entered a couple of writing contests in my time, because I love writing but like a bit of a prompt, and the writing competitions usually allow me to think of something. I haven't produced anything in ages so I ventured back to the forum yesterday for inspiration.

Writing-wise, I always seem to produce horror/ thriller/ paranormal sort-of pieces and I'm not sure why... I just find it easier than romances and the like.

Also, I study speech and language therapy, I'm British, and that's about it!
