Lanie had never been what one would typically call an early riser, but she also didn't believe in wasting daylight. It was still early when her eyes opened and she glanced at the clock and then over to her sleeping roommate, Johnny. She'd wondered the night before how they'd ended up in a room together. Not that she was complaining, he was cute, and a boy, two of Lainie's favorite characteristics in a person, she'd just expected to be with one of the girls. Shaking the thought from her mind, Lanie pushed back the blankets that covered her, it was fairly warm in her room and she probably didn't need all of them but she loved having blankets, as far as she was concerned you could never be too warm.
She tip toed with bare feet across the room to the closet where she'd hung her clothes the night before, doing her best not to make too much noise. She didn't want to wake Johnny but the floorboards creaked beneath her feet and there wasn't much she could do about it if he did wake up. Lanie shuffled through the clothes, she'd brought almost all of them even though she probably wouldn't wear half of them but it never hurt to be prepared she figured. As wild and adventurous as she could be, she was a girly girl at heart and she liked to have all the outfit options she could. After a few minutes she settled on a maroon tank top and a pair of denim shorts which she stuck under her arm as she pulled her shower caddy off the shelf before she slipped through the crack in the door of their bedroom. As far as she could tell, Johnny was still asleep.
Lanie walked down the hall way to the bathroom, shutting the door behind her before she turned the knob on the shower, undressing while she waited for the water to warm up. It was part of her morning routine, to shower and she never showered at night in less it was completely necessary. Her shower was quick and she dried and dressed herself before she returned to her room, Johnny still slept and she had to hold her hand to her mouth to hold back from giggling when he let out a snore. She tossed her pajamas on the foot of her bed and stowed her shower things in the closet again before she slipped out of the room. The house was still fairly quiet and she wondered if anyone else was awake, walking down the hall way all the doors were closed so she shrugged and shuffled down the steps, no longer caring if she made any noise, Lanie didn't want to be the only one awake.
The kitchen was empty but a plate sat next to the sink and coffee in the pot so Lanie knew someone else was awake. She glanced around, looking for a sign of whoever left the plate and she saw Abby through the window and smiled. They were different people, her and Abby, her and all her friends really. Lanie knew she had more than a few bad habits when it came to her methods for having fun but she needed to blow off steam sometimes and it was the best way she knew how. They worried about her, she knew, but she could handle herself.
Lanie's stomach grumbled then, and she refocused her attention to finding some breakfast. They didn't have much food yet, they just arrived the night before but she found a few eggs in the fridge along with some bread that looked fresh enough. She cracked the eggs into a skillet, scrambling them as they fried - it was her favorite way to eat them - and dropped a slice of bread into the toaster. While that cooked she pulled out a mug and poured herself a cup of coffee, it wasn't her favorite beverage in the world but she wasn't opposed to it, especially on early mornings like this one.
When her eggs were finished she put them on a plate aside the toast and carried her mug in her other hand. She used her elbow to push open the sliding back door and smiled at Abby as she placed her breakfast down on the table. "Morning Abby," She said in a light voice before she took a bite of her steaming eggs, "How'd you sleep?" she asked, glancing out across the water. She could hear people in the distance and smiled a little, she loved it out here. It was peaceful enough to feel like a vacation but not desolate enough to feel like she was in the middle of no where meaning some good parties were likely to happen. Lainie was happy to be spending her last summer with her friends here on the lake, she was ready to make the most of it, as soon as the rest of her friends woke up that is.
