Summer! It was finally here, her very last summer before she started college. This was her last summer to just be herself and be free. There were so many things that she'd heard about going to college. All kinds of things that could happy. People that she would met, the things that she could get into. It was extremely overwhelming and scary to think about. Before she'd really known it her life had flashed before her eyes and now, she wasn't really sure what she thought about it. How she really felt about all this, it was hard to really explain where her head was in all of it.. Of course she was excited to be starting her life and going to experience new things and learn more, but all at the same time she wasn't ready to grow up. You never really thought it would happen. You just struggle through grade school, middle school, high school, thinking one day. Then it takes forever for that one day to get there and you think it will never happen. Then you graduate and it all comes crashing down around you that you really did it. You made it through the toughest years of your life and now it's time to be a grown up. Do all the things you never thought you would do. It was really overwhelming for her and she was trying not to think about all the stuff she still had to get ready for school when she got home, all the shopping and packing that she needed to do.

Right now, Abby wanted to focus on her friends. This would be their last possible summer, where they were all together. She wasn't really sure what it would be like once they all got to school and just kind of started to do their own thing. Deep down inside she hoped that they wouldn't lose contact, that they would get to see each other on breaks when they were home and that they would get to come home every summer and get to come up here to the cabin. It really meant a lot to her. They had been coming up here every summer for as long as Abby could remember. Even as children they'd get to come up here and spend a week or two here and do what they wanted. It had been a good time for their parents too. Now that they were older, they'd been coming up here on their own for the last three summers, it was really nice. Their parents would come up on different weeks, to enjoy it. Family outings were so different now. When she actually went out on vacation with her parents it wasn't here to the Lake House, they'd go somewhere else. This place was just for her and her friends, or at least that was how she'd been seeing it lately.

Before her alarm could even go off, she got up and shut it off, then grabbed her clothes for the day and headed into the bathroom. She went through her morning routine of getting ready for the day. When she was showered, dressed and ready to go she cleaned up the mess that she'd made and headed towards her room again. Today was the first full day that they would be spending here at the Lake and she wasn't all that sure what they would be doing. Though, they would be having a BBQ for dinner. She'd already planned what she wanted to make for dinner. She'd already pretty much planned out the dinner and had a list ready to go. She needed to start getting things ready, but first she needed to get some breakfast in her. After putting away her things she headed down stairs to the kitchen where she first started a pot of coffee and then pulled out some things to toss a quick breakfast together. Nothing terribly fancy, some scrambled eggs, toast and bacon. Once her place was ready she poured a coup of coffee and grabbed her notebook and pen then headed out to the back deck where she sat down at the table and started to eat her breakfast while she jotted some last minute things down in her notebook, a more planned out list of things that she needed to do and get together.

Cooking was one of her favorite things to do. It's about the only thing that she did with her mother. Tuns out, Abby has a real knack for it. Cooking by a recipe was never something she did, she'd just go with her gut feeling and her food always turns out on top. Growing up, she wasn't sure if she'd want to be a professional cook or a vet, it had been a hard decision, but she figured starting out as a vet would be a good idea. Maybe while she was in school, if she had some time she'd squeeze in a few culinary classes too, that would really help her along with things and what not. Animals and cook were her two passions, kind of odd but she loved to care for animals and she really loved to cook and eat food. Being the friend that she was, she thought that for tonight she would prepare their dinner for them. Make them something that was really worthy of starting the summer off right. Sitting at the table, she ate her breakfast slowly as she listed off the food that she needed to get ready, and under that she wrote what she would need to have with it. She was pretty excited about this. It was going to be a really great start to the summer and she couldn't wait to see what was in store for her and her friends.

When she was finished eating, she sat her plate off to the side and sat back in her chair with her mug of coffee and looked out over the lake. It was a beautiful site with the sun coming up. People were already out on boats fishing or tubing. She could hear children from somewhere near by screaming and playing. She could remember that being them as youngsters. Up at the crack of dawn, ready to go and do whatever their parents had planned for them. No matter how tired they were or how little sleep they'd gotten, they were always up and ready to go sometimes even before their parents. Life back then had been so simple and easy. Not that much to worry about, no bills to pay, no colleges to apply too. All they had to worry about was what they were going to do first, or what they might have for lunch. Sometimes, Abby missed those simple days. They had to grow up sometime, and after this summer something deep down inside Abby told her life wouldn't be the same anymore.

Lanie had never been what one would typically call an early riser, but she also didn't believe in wasting daylight. It was still early when her eyes opened and she glanced at the clock and then over to her sleeping roommate, Johnny. She'd wondered the night before how they'd ended up in a room together. Not that she was complaining, he was cute, and a boy, two of Lainie's favorite characteristics in a person, she'd just expected to be with one of the girls. Shaking the thought from her mind, Lanie pushed back the blankets that covered her, it was fairly warm in her room and she probably didn't need all of them but she loved having blankets, as far as she was concerned you could never be too warm.

She tip toed with bare feet across the room to the closet where she'd hung her clothes the night before, doing her best not to make too much noise. She didn't want to wake Johnny but the floorboards creaked beneath her feet and there wasn't much she could do about it if he did wake up. Lanie shuffled through the clothes, she'd brought almost all of them even though she probably wouldn't wear half of them but it never hurt to be prepared she figured. As wild and adventurous as she could be, she was a girly girl at heart and she liked to have all the outfit options she could. After a few minutes she settled on a maroon tank top and a pair of denim shorts which she stuck under her arm as she pulled her shower caddy off the shelf before she slipped through the crack in the door of their bedroom. As far as she could tell, Johnny was still asleep.

Lanie walked down the hall way to the bathroom, shutting the door behind her before she turned the knob on the shower, undressing while she waited for the water to warm up. It was part of her morning routine, to shower and she never showered at night in less it was completely necessary. Her shower was quick and she dried and dressed herself before she returned to her room, Johnny still slept and she had to hold her hand to her mouth to hold back from giggling when he let out a snore. She tossed her pajamas on the foot of her bed and stowed her shower things in the closet again before she slipped out of the room. The house was still fairly quiet and she wondered if anyone else was awake, walking down the hall way all the doors were closed so she shrugged and shuffled down the steps, no longer caring if she made any noise, Lanie didn't want to be the only one awake.

The kitchen was empty but a plate sat next to the sink and coffee in the pot so Lanie knew someone else was awake. She glanced around, looking for a sign of whoever left the plate and she saw Abby through the window and smiled. They were different people, her and Abby, her and all her friends really. Lanie knew she had more than a few bad habits when it came to her methods for having fun but she needed to blow off steam sometimes and it was the best way she knew how. They worried about her, she knew, but she could handle herself.

Lanie's stomach grumbled then, and she refocused her attention to finding some breakfast. They didn't have much food yet, they just arrived the night before but she found a few eggs in the fridge along with some bread that looked fresh enough. She cracked the eggs into a skillet, scrambling them as they fried - it was her favorite way to eat them - and dropped a slice of bread into the toaster. While that cooked she pulled out a mug and poured herself a cup of coffee, it wasn't her favorite beverage in the world but she wasn't opposed to it, especially on early mornings like this one.

When her eggs were finished she put them on a plate aside the toast and carried her mug in her other hand. She used her elbow to push open the sliding back door and smiled at Abby as she placed her breakfast down on the table. "Morning Abby," She said in a light voice before she took a bite of her steaming eggs, "How'd you sleep?" she asked, glancing out across the water. She could hear people in the distance and smiled a little, she loved it out here. It was peaceful enough to feel like a vacation but not desolate enough to feel like she was in the middle of no where meaning some good parties were likely to happen. Lainie was happy to be spending her last summer with her friends here on the lake, she was ready to make the most of it, as soon as the rest of her friends woke up that is.

Last night had been a long one. Johnny had to have laid there in bed for over two hours, staring up at the ceiling, rolling onto one side and then the other. It always happened on the first nights they came up here: he'd get so hyped up for what their little vacation held in store for them that he'd just want the sun to come back around so that they could finally have some fun. Only this time it was worse. They had this last summer before they'd all go their separate ways. It didn't worry him, not really, just made him all the more excited. They'd make this their best one. Maybe they didn't all say it, but they felt. He knew that.

But considering how excited he had been last night, Johnny was just a little surprised when he woke up to see what time it was--okay, it wasn't that late, but he usually got up earlier on their first full day here, like a kid on Christmas. Johnny rolled over to look at where Lainie slept. It looked like she beat him to the chase--and she didn't wake him. He frowned, playfully, but at least he knew he wouldn't be the only one up, so he threw off the covers and, after a moment, stood, a little slowly, but the grogginess would only last for another minute. Coffee? Nah. He didn't need that. His body got energy from seemingly nowhere. He spent every day just trying to burn it all.

After a quick shower, Johnny put on his clothes and checked himself out in the mirror while he ran his hands over his hair to make sure it looked alright. Green eyes stared back at him from a face full of freckles, like someone had blown sand in his face and it stuck. Last but not least, he put his dog tag around his neck, tucked it into his shirt. He was never one for accessories, but he made an exception for this. When senior year started, he knew what lay ahead after graduation, and wearing this dog tag was his way of embracing it and announcing it to everyone who knew him. Maybe he had a while before he actually entered the army, but these next four years would prepare him for it.

The army. He knew what he'd be doing since sophomore year, and from there, he put all the pieces in place. Up until this past school year, it felt like he was aiming for some far off goal, like he still had all the time in the world. Now it started to loom more clearly and left a dull weight on his mind. Johnny didn't yet know what he thought. Just that he had to do what he had to.

Now that he was ready, Johnny went downstairs--to a quiet first floor. But he knew he heard someone down here in the kitchen before he started the shower, presumably Lainie. He started for that room, but on his way over, he looked out the back door, spotting Abby and Lainie on the deck. He went on out, his bare feet thudding against the wood boards as he walked over to where they were. "Mornin' ladies," he said, sitting down on the other side of Lainie. "You were supposed to wake me up, you," Johnathon said, playfully poking her in the arm. He had asked her to if she got up first, but she was probably half-asleep by then. Johnny sat back in his chair and glanced at the table, where their plates sat. It reminded him of his empty stomach, but he didn't feel like going back in there to scrounge for food, not right now. He also spotted the notebook. He looked at Abby. "Hey, I don't know if you got the memo, but school's out now." He smiled, then kind of wondered if it was the best joke right now, but he forced himself not to think about it and continued: "What're you writing down?"

Carter had slowly allowed himself to get up way before the crack of dawn, just so he could go running. Just because it was summer and he didn't need to worry about track, he still felt the need to run. One, he loved running and two, it kept him in shape by helping his cardio. He made sure to be quiet as he grabbed a pair of shorts, a shirt, and sneakers. Quickly getting dressed, he made his way out of the house, iPod in hand and ear-buds already in as he started his run.

When he returned to the house, completely sweaty and gross, he could hear a few people up and moving on the back patio. Carter would have stopped by them, but he felt gross and he knew he had a bit of an odor around him. He really didn't feel like making the others smell him. With that in mind, he quickly ran up the stairs, grabbing some clean clothes and heading to the bathroom.

Sighing as he walked out of the bathroom, Carter made his way down the stairs, stopping in the kitchen for a spoon and some yogurt. Although, once he reached the kitchen, his stomach decided it was a great time to let him know it wanted more than yogurt. Grabbing a bagel and some blueberry cream cheese, he got to work making himself some breakfast. Once the bagels were done in the toaster and had some cream cheese, he grabbed his spoon, yogurt, water bottle, and the bagel before heading out to the patio.

Seeing who was all up and out there, Johnny, Lainie, and Abbey, Carter smiled and waved at them. ”Good morning. Everyone sleep well?” He asked, setting his food down on the table and taking a seat before he bit into the bagel.

O.O.C: I didn't want to ramble and repeat things really badly so I'm sorry this isn't as long as everyone else's. My other posts will be long though.

It was the sun shining through the shear curtains that finally roused Luke from sleep, he never could sleep when there was light. He had made a few feeble attempts at rolling over and going back to sleep, pulling the blankets up over his head and everything but it was useless, he wasn't going to fall back asleep and he finally resigned to accept the fact and swung his feet over onto the cool wood floor. His roommate and one of his best friends, Carter, was already gone from the room which didn't surprise Luke all that much. He ran his hand through his hair, trying to straighten out the bed head that he was sure made him look like a regular mess as he walked across the room and looked out the window.

The lake was already full of people boating, swimming, and generally having a good time and the sight made Luke smile. He absolutely loved it here, or anywhere outside really but this lake house would always have a soft spot in his heart especially this last summer with his friends before college. Luke sighed, clicking his tongue as he glanced around the room, he'd forgotten where he'd taken his glasses off the night before and while he wasn't completely blind without them they definitely made a difference. He made his way back to his bed, they weren't on the nightstand where he would normally put them so he felt around the blankets too, he'd had a knack for falling asleep while wearing them and he'd lost many a pair to the depths of his comforters.

Eventually he's hit a stroke of luck and found them resting under his bed, he wasn't really sure how they ended up there but he'd found them in stranger places before. With his glasses finally on his head he quickly changed his clothes, pulling out a blue and white striped t-shirt and a pair of khaki shorts. Luke gave one last attempt at straightening his hair as he walked out of his room and down the hall, from the looks of things most of his friends already made it downstairs.

Luke made his way to the kitchen, finding it empty but used he glanced out the windows and found everyone sitting on the back porch. He grabbed an apple off the counter, taking a bite as he pushed through the door and raised his hand in a greeting to his friends. Once he'd swallowed his bite of apple he offered them a tired smile, "G'morning," he mumbled, taking another bite of his apple as he leaned back against the railing, his back to the lake. The air was warm, but not too hot and it was a nice morning, though his eyes hadn't been completely prepared for the brightness of the sun reflecting off the water.

Luke kept eating his apple, wondering what they were going to do today. He could see that Abby was writing something, but he couldn't tell what. Lainie, Johnny, and Carter sat at the table as well all eating breakfast. From the looks of it he hadn't woken up too much longer after the rest of them and Holly, Ayla, and Logan had yet to join the rest of them so he figured they must still be asleep. Luke took another bit of his apple, glancing at his friends again his mind wandered to what they would do this summer, hoping that it would be as fun and amazing as he had anticipated.

Abby had just finished making a list of food that she wanted to get to the house and a list of somethings that she needed. She hadn't gotten to get everything before she left home, so a trip to the grocery store was totally needed. Hopefully when a few more people got up she would find someone, or maybe everyone to go with her so she could get what she needed. Glancing up when someone spoke, she smiled seeing Lanie. "Hey girl hey." She said sitting up in her seat a little bit better. "Pretty decently. How did you sleep?" She asked her, sipping from her mug again. As the two of them sat there, she couldn't help but play over a million different memories of them as children. Running around like bats out of hell. She could only imagine what their parents had thought of them. They were crazy children, and having all this open space to run around in. She smiled at Lanie and passed her notebook. "I need to run to the store, here is my list. By all means add to it. I figured tonight we could do a cook out. I made a list of foods, and then regular groceries to get, go ahead and add to it." She said to her. When Johnathan came out to join them she smiled at him. "Morning."

Abby sipped from her mug a few more times, until nothing more came out and she sat it down on the table with a sigh. She was usually an early morning person. She would much rather sleep in, but this morning she'd been startled awake by something and after just couldn't get back to sleep. So she'd gotten up, made breakfast and come out here where she could really enjoy the peaceful morning on the lake. If she could move up here, she probably would. The place was perfect. She'd just need a barn for her horse and she'd be ready to go. Coming out of her thoughts she looked over at Johnathan and laughed. "Yes I know. It's a list of things to make tonight for the Cook out and other groceries that we need. Feel free to add to the list." She said laughing a little bit as she got up and grabbed her mug and plate and walked back to the house. She put her plate in the sink and refilled her mug, then headed back outside where they were all sitting on the deck. She sank down into her chair getting comfortable."I think I'm going to go to town shortly, would any of you like to tag along?" She asked as she picked up her mug and took a couple more sips from it.

She wondered what the summer was going to be like, this was their last summer together and she couldn't help but think of all the memories that they would make. She was one of those people that really loved doing things. She couldn't wait to get things going. There were so many things that she wanted to do before summer was over and they all went their separate ways. Sighing softly, she pushed the thought of college away. It wasn't something she wanted to think about while she was here. "I'm leaving as soon as everyone has written something on the list. Want to get there and back to start on things for dinner." She said with a smile.

THE SWEETHEART SONGBiRD

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Holly woke up tangled beyond belief in her many blankets, and with a mixture of excitement and dread in the pit of her stomach. The excitement was inevitable and even welcome, given that it was summer. The dread was not so welcome but it was just as unavoidable because this would be her last summer with little to no cares before she headed off to the one place she wasn't sure she'd fit in at; New York. She had been lucky enough to get accepted to an arts school there, but fitting in was another story. That meant that this summer was about making enough memories to get her through any possible loneliness she'd experience her first few months in college. She shouldn't waste any time just laying around, but she was just so....tired. Holly could barely sleep the night before after settling into the house, she just wanted to stay up all night and talk to everyone. Unfortunately she was the only one who had that mindset, everyone else claimed their rooms and headed to sleep fairly early. It wasn't that big of a deal though, the real excitement would be happening today at least once she finally got her lazy boned self out of bed.

Holly gave herself a few more moments to lay in the comfort of her bed before finally feeling ready to start the day. She wriggled out of the tangle of sheets and quietly made her way to the closet to pick out an outfit that was more suited for the day then what she had slept in. Not that she had any objection to walking out like this, but a quick glance at the clock led her to believe that everyone was probably already dressed for the day. Luckily she didn't have to waste more time with a shower since she had taken one the night before just to give her something to do instead of be kept up with her thoughts. No, most of her time getting ready would be dedicated to picking out an outfit for today. When it came to Holly, she always took a lot of time on her outward appearance, it was just how she was raised. Besides, it was a bit calming and exciting for her, to see what kind of outfits she could put together. That was just another reason she loved theatre so much; the costumes helped you get into character more then anything else. After a few more minutes of searching she finally picked an outfit she was satisfied with and heading into the bathroom to change.

Only a few moments later she merged from the bathroom fully dressed and ready for the day, her hair falling past her shoulders in loose waves. The only thing missing was her shoes, which were currently in her hands. They were of the high heel variety and she wasn't about to go clomping around and wake Ayla up so suddenly. Sure early mornings were kind of the norm for them, but she wasn't about to be the wake-up call on the first day of summer! Holly knew there were plenty of cranky people in this world and she wasn't about to see if Ayla was one of them. So she scurried out of the room on her tiptoes and quietly shut the door behind her before leaning over to put her shoes on and lace them up. She was kind of dinky in terms of height, so heels were practically her best friend. Holly made her way to the kitchen and was a bit disappointed to find it empty. An empty kitchen meant that she had to fend for herself when it came to making something to eat and sadly her cooking skills were less then stellar. It was probably the only reason that she wouldn't make a good wife and it actually bothered her to know end. She hummed a little song while she scoured the kitchen looking for something she felt like cooking, she wasn't about to set off the smoke alarm the first day! Finally settling on a blueberry bagel with cream cheese, she took her food and went out on the back deck where she saw everyone else seemed to be gathered.

She perched herself securely on the railing nearest to where Carter was seated at the table, he was one of her favorites after all, and dangled her feet over the edge, happily munching on her bagel for a few moments before speaking. "Good morning, lovelies! I hope all y'all slept well, or at the very least better then me." She spouted out only moments after Abby explained that she was scribbling away in her notebook a grocery list for tonight's festivities and explained that she'd be going to town soon. Hearing this, Holly quickly jumped off her perch on the railing and hurried to the list. "S'mores are definitely a must! Even if we don't have them tonight, i'm sure there will be at least one intense s'mores craving day." she said to all of them as she scribbled the ingredients to make them on the list. Holly maybe reacted a bit to much for the simply act of s'mores, but she was a bit of an excitable girl who had much too large of a sweet tooth, so she just couldn't even help it. "I don't mind tagging along, the more hands the faster we can finish and get ready to go swimming! I for one can't wait to see Luke in his swimsuit." she said with a small smirk. Lucas was easily the most gentlemen-like male in the group and would definitely make some lucky girl very happy one day, but Holly couldn't help but tease him. She found it adorable when his cheeks turned the lightest shade of pink when she pushed his buttons the right way. She'd been meaning to ease up on this behavior, but apparently today wasn't the day.

the night`s still young xxxx never gonna get old xxxx livin` for today like there`s no tomorrow xxxx follow the grooves the tires in the grass xxxx staying on the gas like we`re never comin` back

The morning felt amazing as Lainie ate her eggs, swallowing before she replied to Abby's question about how she slept. The brunette shrugged, glancing back up at her friend, "I slept alright, can't really complain." she said, taking another bite of her eggs as the door opened and Johnny walked through it, joining them on the porch. He said something about her not waking him up and she smiled a little thinking about how she had tried to deliberately not wake him, but she wasn't going to tell him that. "Oops," she said, a small giggles escaping her lips as she poked him back, "Must've slipped my mind." and it had when she woke up although now that he mentioned it she did vaguely remember him asking her to wake him in the morning right before she had fallen asleep. At that point she decided it was his fault, she was half asleep and she never remembered anything at that point.

Elaine hadn't noticed the notebook Abby had been writing in until Johnny had made a joke about it but now she sat up a little straighter and looked at the writing. Obviously a list, which was confirmed when Abby revealed her idea of the cook out which caused a smile to break out across Lainie's face, she loved cooking out and she loved cooking so it was practically Christmas. "That's a fantastic idea!" she said before she took another bite of her breakfast. She was a slow eater and it was starting to get a little cold but she didn't mind, it was something she'd grown used to by now. "We should make a fruit salad or something," Lainie offered, it were up to her they'd just raid the produce section and be done with it but she knew not everyone was as crazy about fruit as she was, "Or get some potato salad, coleslaw, something side-dishy." she added as Carter appeared through the door.

"Goodmorning, sunshine." she greeted Carter, her excitement about cooking was probably more than necessary but she wasn't too concerned about it. She finished the rest of her eggs and toast as they sat there, and it wasn't much longer before Luke and Holl had joined them, now only Ayla and Logan were missing and Lainie was seriously considering going to wake them herself. She greeted them all in just as pleasant a manner as she had greeted Carter and pulled the list away from Abby, skimming over what was already written and adding a few items of her own. She wanted to get potatoes, a few kinds of fruit and some other baking needs to make things from scratch. Elaine figured the potatoes would get eaten fast, they were versatile enough to be eaten at any meal and she'd learned many ways to prepare them. Before she slid the list back another idea came to her, "I can make a pie if you want, Carter will help!" she said with a smile on her face, Lainie often dragged Carter into the middle of things when she was cooking, she didn't really know why but she loved teaching him to cook even if he didn't want to learn. She added Granny Smith apples to the list and pushed it back to Abby.

Lainie laughed outright at Holly's comment about Luke and then again at the blush that colored his cheeks. Oh, Lucas Brown. That was stumper for Lainie, how they'd become friends was something that always puzzled her a bit. Others, Holly and Johnny for example made sense, they were cut from similar cloths but Luke was shy and easily embarrassed which was adorable to Lainie who was hardly ever caught off guard by comments or actions.

When Abby asked if anyone wanted to go along with her Lainie considered it, it would be nice to go into town but they didn't all need to go, and she was excited to get into the water and start the summer off right. "I'd love to come but I think I'll stay here, I wanna hit the lake." she said, and then with a little thought she added, "I can clean anything up though, or get something started for tonight if you need something done around the house?" she asked, glancing around at the others.

Luke stood quietly listening to the conversation around him, for the most part it was centered on groceries and whatever else and he hadn't really had much to add. He'd glanced over Abby's shoulder at the list and from what he could tell there wasn't much else to add, though Lainie sure seemed to have a lot of suggestions. Luke wasn't much of a cook himself though and he often couldn't figure out what he himself wanted to eat much less what he should suggest for seven other people so he stayed in the back ground and listened while he gnawed at the remains of his apple. He was tired still anyway, all the grogginess had yet to be worn out of him so he was content to stay quiet.

Luke set the apple down on the railing next to him and started to daydream while the other's talked food but he was snapped out of it when he heard Holly say his name. As soon as her words registered Luke could feel the heat rising in his cheeks and was sure that they were just as pink as they felt. It wasn't particularly hard to make Luke blush but Holly seemed to have a real talent for it, and she enjoyed it. At first he didn't know what to say back, a number of words crossed his mind but he couldn't get them out and after a minute or two he finally let it go, like he usually did, and did his best to ignore Lainie's laughter. Instead he ran a hand through his hair, hiding his face a little until the pink had left his cheeks. After the appropriate time for a comeback had passed Luke had finally found the words he'd wanted, You won't be disappointed. he thought and smirked a little to himself, he was strong but by no means ripped and he would probably never brag about himself out loud or even believe the words he thought but if he had been just a little smoothers he might've said it.

"I'll tag along, you can't have too many hands." Luke finally said, accepting Abby's invitation to go into town right after Elaine had declined it. He liked spending time with Abby and if Holly was going he was sure there would be more quips with the intention to embarrass him but to be honest it never really bothered him when she did, it was kind of how their friendship worked. "We should get home sweet tea too, I think I'm having withdraws." he said, a small smile quirking up the corner of his lips. Luke loved sweet tea, as any good country person should, and he drank some almost every day but he hadn't thought to bring any with him, besides he like when it was made rather than bought in a bottle and he was sure that even if he couldn't do it himself Abby or Lainie would be more than happy too.

Hearing Lainie giggle was like music to Johnny's ears, especially when he knew he was the cause of it. "It's alright, I can forgive you," he teased, because it wasn't like it was a transgression or anything. He resisted trying to start a poking war--it might've been a little early for that.

Abby answered his question on what she wrote down--that made sense. Now that he looked closer at it, it did look like a grocery list. "Yeah, I'm down for a nice barbecue," Johnny agreed with Lainie, not as excited as she was, but he knew hers was for a different reason. He made a slight face when she suggested fruit salad. The girls could have that all they wanted, as far as he was concerned. "Potato salad or coleslaw sounds good to me."

Just then, the backdoor opened, and Johnny looked toward it to see Carter walking over to them while he spoke. "Yep," he answered. "How 'bout you?" It looked like everyone was waking up pretty early today--Lucas and Holly weren't far behind Carter. "Morning," he said to both of them, and he laughed a little when Holly said she didn't sleep well. "You pull an all-nighter last night?" Things always felt a little strained whenever he talked to her. After he sort of, kind of, blew some of them off freshman year, she never seemed to truly forgive him. He tried to make it up to her, and maybe by now he should know that would never happen, but he wouldn't give up. He still had this summer to make things right by her. It could happen.

Now they were missing only a couple of people. Johnny looked up at the second floor, wondering if they were stirring around, too. He had the urge to go wake Logan up, give him a nice good morning, but he let it slide for now. Lainie was jotting things down on Abby's list. He leaned in to see better, idly reading each item she added. Then she volunteered to make a pie--and dragged Carter into helping her. He laughed, turning to the guy in question. "It's all you, bud. Don't burn the place down, you know?" He clapped Carter on the shoulder, a little gentler about how he did it for him than how he often did it for his other bros. Johnny could be pretty rowdy with other guys, but sometime after Carter came out to them, he softened up just a bit. After Lainie said something about the pie, Holly added in s'mores. "Yeah, for sure," he said, glancing at her and smiling. "When we get a nice fire going one night."

When Holly teased Luke, Johnny laughed along. Without looking, he could picture the blush that had to have exploded all over the guy's face. He also snuck a glance at his own chest, maybe feeling just a twinge of jealousy. Luke had a pretty nice build, sure, but his was better. He let it go, though. It was no big deal. Luke could have the spotlight for once, and besides, Holly was known for teasing him.

Shortly after that little scene, people started volunteering to tag along with Abby. Lainie didn't, and Johnny was about to hop on that bandwagon, his mouth open, ready to speak. Then she volunteered to clean. Yeah, that didn't sound fun at all, but neither did shopping, and at least they might get to go swimming sooner, so it still wasn't a hard choice. "I guess I can stay and clean, too." Smirking, he held up his hands. "It's okay, guys, hell hasn't froze over yet." He dropped them back down on the table. "It'll help make up for past summers." Maybe cleaning wouldn't be so bad. Surely it would all go smoothly.

Johnny smiled at Lainie, and then kind of glanced down at her plate, then at everyone else's. Man, everyone was eating. That just made him hungrier. He pushed himself up. "Speaking of groceries, I need food. I'll be right back." He lightly jogged inside and over to the fridge. He opened it up, looking inside. Now to find something good.

"Holly, if you want to stay and go swimming. Go for it. Really, it won't take me long to run into town and do the shopping." She said to him. She totally got it that everyone wanted to go swimming and hangout. She wanted to also, but they really did need some food. There wasn't much food in the house and she really wanted to go and get some food. They had just enough to get through breakfast, then that it was. Which made sense. People didn't stay here all the time, they would only bring food when they needed it. Right now was definitely one of those times. Her eyes looked over to Lanie when she started listing off stuff. "Potato salad is on my list of things to make. So is fruit salad. Girl, don't worry I didn't leave anything out. I was thinking we'd have hamburgers and hot dogs. Baked beans, corn on the cob, potato salad, fruit salad, chips, s'mores, cookies. A pie sounds good, I can definitely get you stuff to make a pie." She said nodding her head. She had so much on the list of food to make. "Oh, deviled eggs, those one little snack things too. I was thinking about making some dips, getting crackers and cheese too. Kind of go all out for tonight. It being our first night here." She said with a smile. Abby was so excited about making dinner for everyone. She couldn't wait to get things started.

Abby really did love food, eating it and making it. It was a huge weakness. This was definitely one of her favorite things to do in her pass time, especially when her friends were around. She loved to cook things for them. Standing up she picked up her coffee mug and pushed in the chair that she'd been sitting in and grabbed the notebook. "Um, actually I already went through everything and cleaned up." She said, blushing a little bit. That was just what she did. Abby had been here almost an hour earlier than everyone else. She'd done a few cleaning things and gone through stuff, making sure it was fresh and cleaned up. She just liked to do things like that. She even did it at home. "Go swim and have fun. You two can help when I come back and start making things." She said to Lanie and Johnathan with a smile, glad that her friends wanted to help her out. She turned to look at Luke and nodded her head about the sweet tea thing. "On my list too!" She said with a smile. "Alright, so anyone who wants to go can meet me out front in five minutes." She said then headed inside. She had to grab her purse and wanted to clean up the kitchen just a little bit.

Once in the kitchen, she finished off her coffee and loaded a few things into the dishwasher, then headed up to the room she was staying in. Abby walked over to her bag and grabbed her car keys and her purse. When she was ready she finally headed down stairs again. Doing a quick check over her notebook. There was a lot on the list, but it made since. Eight people would be living in the house. Between all of them they would be eating a lot of food, making dinners and having snack stuff. She didn't mind going to get it all, their parents had provided a very nice amount of money for them all that would account for food and anything else that they would need while up there. So, honestly it was kind of nice. It was nice of their parents to think about them like that. Once she reached the bottom of the stairs she pulled her keys out of her purse and headed out the front door walking towards her truck that was parked off to the side out of everyone's way. She unlocked the door and climbed in turning the key in the ignition so she could roll down the windows and get a little air moving through it so it wasn't hod.

the night`s still young xxxx never gonna get old xxxx livin` for today like there`s no tomorrow xxxx follow the grooves the tires in the grass xxxx staying on the gas like we`re never comin` back

Lanie listened to everyone as they talked about groceries and swimming and she was glad when John had also decided to stay back and start their vacation instead of going into town with the others. She would've felt pretty selfish otherwise but they didn't all need to go and Abby, Luke, and Holly were more than capable of handling the shopping on their own so she didn't feel too guilty. And she had offered to clean up around the house which cleared her conscious just a little more, not that it needed too much clearing because she never felt bad about wanting to have a good time, but she also wanted to be a good friend.

When Abby said she'd already cleaned up it was like music to Lainie's ears and she practically jumped out of her seat failing to conceal her excitement as she clapped her hands together and smiled wide, "Abs, you're a saint!" she exclaimed, and walked around the table to give her friends shoulders a quick squeeze before she picked her empty plate off the table and and went inside. Johnny was making himself some breakfast, or looking for some at least as she slid by him and turned on the faucet to wash her fork and plate. It had been a rule in her house to wash your dishes when you were finished with them because they hadn't had a dishwasher until recently and man could her and Jeremy pile the sink high and now it was just a habit. She quickly dried the plate and replaced it in the cabinet before she shifted to where Johnny stood inspecting the fridge.

"Hurry up! We've got a lake to swim in!" she said in his ear before she stepped around him and jogged up the steps. She hadn't put her swimsuit on after her shower because she wasn't sure when everyone else would be up but she didn't mind changing. She quickly fished though the closet for one, she'd brought three, and quickly changed into it and grabbed her beach towel, matching blue flip flops, and tanning lotion before she went back downstairs to the kitchen to find Johnny. She knew he still had to eat and she didn't want to go by herself so she decided she would wait for him.

Lainie's pushed herself up on the counter and leaned her hands on the ledge, towel and lotion sitting next to her and she waited. She had thought about grabbing a cover-up but the lake was practically in their back yard and it was just her friends so she didn't see the point, it's not like none of them have seen her in a bikini before.

Watching the others, Carter ate his food, listening in to the conversation so that he wouldn't miss anything. A barbecue sounded great to, except for one small issue: He is a vegetarian. Other wise, it was a lovely thought, especially with thoughts of swimming. The water was calling for him, so to say, and he really wanted to be in the nice, cool water. It wasn't an ocean, thank god, so he felt safe and not scared of it at all.

”So, the thought of a barbecue is a very lovely idea, but I hope that none of you forgot that I'm not a carnivore. If there is any way for you guys to pick up some potato salad, and fruit, I would love you to death.” He said, pointing his spoon at Abby.

When Elaine pulled him into helping make a pie, Carter groaned a bit. He wasn't a good cook, mainly because he couldn't, and didn't, know how to cook. But it wasn't like he didn't want to learn. No one had ever taken the time to teach him or help him. Looking at Johnny, he grinned. ”Just for that, I should burn the house down.” He stated, his sassy side kicking in a bit. ”Don't worry though, I don't think Lainie will let me burn the place down.”

With that being said,, Carter went back to eating, more so just finishing off the little bit that he had. Glancing up, a soft smile graced his lips. It was great that all of them were here together. It may be the last time that they see each other for a while, but he knew it was going to be worth it. And with his trusty camera in his room, he was bound to get wonderful photos of them all. Along with some that might used for blackmail, well, maybe. Not that he was planning on blackmailing his friends, but they would be great photos to bring up once in a while.

Hearing that s'mores were being added to the list, Carter chimed in,”You gotta get the jet puffed marshmallows. Y'know, the ones that are huge and that you can only fit two or three in your mouth. Speaking of which, we should all play chubby bunny one of these nights, or days, but for that, we need the smaller ones. So, I guess you might be needed to get a few different types of marshmallows.” Carter stopped himself, realizing that he had started to ramble on. It was something that he really needed to work on, and he knew it wasn't going to happen over night.

As everyone started to disperse, Carter leaned back in his chair, looking up toward the sky and watched the clouds. Maybe I should go and grab my camera now that way it is out here and ready. With the thought of his camera, his mind was already made up. He grabbed his plate and spoon and headed into the house.

"Someone is very ready to go swimming." He said to Lainie as he walked in, rinsing his plate and spoon off.
