Through mountains of sand lies the dune swept land of Triet; a nation choked by the grains of an all encompassing desert. It was within the royal courts of Triet that a rift had begun to form. Conspirators were assembling and expertly weaving their web of lies, and deceit, with a well practiced hand.

At the forefront was the Sultana, the wife of their sovereign ruler. Conspiring with the aid of the Vizier, she and her conspirator plotted the assassination of the Sultan. But this was not done without precautions. Attempts had been made on the Sultans's life in the past, much more swift and with deadly. The Sultana wished for her husband's death to appear nature. She took to gradually poisoning her drear husband and, once a mighty ruler, he was reduced to a frail thing.

Yet in this grab for the throne, there was someone else who was caught between. The Sultan had a son. It was he who would inherit the throne upon the death of the Sultan. This, of course, would not do. An attempt was also made on the prince's life, the assassin hired by the Vizier. Yet it was met with failure, the boy's guard interceding and saving the heir. All the same, they had pretense, and thus in hand, the Sultana had reason to send away her son. It was for his safety, after all.

With the prince moved well away from the palace, the Sultana and Vizier continued the slow advancement of their plot. But not without garnering the suspicion of the banished heir himself. He was not such a fool as to be completely blinded to the goings on or his imprisonment. For that was what it truly was. The prince had been placed in a fortress near the desert oasis, left to rot without guards, food, or any other comforts of home.

But not all was going as planned.

Not long after the imprisonment of the prince, a group of marauding thieves got wind that a priceless treasure had been stashed at the Desert Oasis. With notions of grand treasures and mounds of riches sitting within a ruined fortress, the greedy band made haste toward the thatch of greenery in the otherwise desolate landscape.

It has been five days since Prince Azhar first arrived at the desert oasis. Provided with minimal supplies, and nary a single guard or servant to tend to him, he has been left to his own devices. The escort he had has long since returned to Triet, with the word that he would be back in a week's time with more rations. Yet, they would never arrive. How fortunate, then, that someone else is already en route. Silas Keel, the leader of a band of thieves, has the oasis in his sights. Little does he know that the 'treasure' he has come to seek is nothing more than a privileged noble.
