( Io's name is pronounced eye-yo for those who didn't know ^ ^)
White lights, a bright ghostly glare temporary blinds her and a sharp pain runs through her arm from the long slender needle of the syringe protruding from it. She starts to shake like crazy and the room starts spinning into a kaleidoscope of insanity, narrated by the constant beep of a heart monitor. Then ultimate darkness.
What had been the beeping of heart monitor had now morphed into the siren of a alarm clock.
Dark blue light fills her vision and soon the fuzzy lights of the city that glowed outside the window. The sky was a deep shade of blue as dawn was drawing near, its enveloping fingers of light and shadow creeping through the streets of a dark city. Io rolled out of bed and slumped to the floor but jumped back up soon after. She reached for her jacket in the darkness and slipped it on while walking towards the computer desk nearby and flipping on the desktop lamp. Grabbing a bottle full of capsules, Io popped a couple of the turquoise pills into her mouth and then reached for her cellphone, slipping the tiny device into her pocket. She then turned towards the door and walked outside.
The hall outside her bedroom was bright in contrast to her dark living quarters. Not many in Midgar were up at this time of day, but this wasn't true for Shinra Headquarters, the halls were packed like a hive of busy bees. Infantrymen walking every which way and sparse numbers of other staff weaving through them. Io walked sluggishly towards the elevator while she was still in a sleepy stupor and then pushed the up button. She zipped up to the SOLDIER floor in only a matter of moments and out she stepped onto the newly waxed tile flooring of the soldier floor, the heels of her boots clicking ever so slightly as she wandered towards the SOLDIER lounge and stepped inside. She took notice of the chaotic and noisy environment of lower ranked soldiers messing around and conversing, though there was one who stood out like a sore thumb, one who wore a uniform of solid black, the uniform worn only those of First Class. It was her friend Mercury goofing around with a coupled 2nd Classers in a game of pool. The stoic expression on Io's glum face changed to a cheery one when she saw him. A couple 3rd classers nearby gave a look of concern when Io smiled, it was a event that would get anyone who knew Io into a rut of worry since most knew Io to be quiet a stoic and cruel individual. So as a result a few SOLDIER tried to avoid eye contact and kept their wild behavior to a minimum. A flash of bright red leather caught Io's eye as the room went a eerie quiet and another familiar face came walking through the room. Many of the men in the room either saluted or stood at attention to show respect, except for Io and Mercury who seemed not to register formalities due to their rank.
" A smile? Well that's a bit of surprise. You know, you look much prettier when you try to lighten up once in a while. When you look so cold and rigid it drains you of your charm" Said the charismatic tone of Genesis Rhapsodos, a fellow yet more well known member in the elite ranks of SOLDIER. He came walking through the lounge with his hands in his pockets and made a dead stop near Io. But Io only rolled her eyes as her grin turned back to a broken smile. " Why don't you go flirt with the secretaries on the 3rd floor, they might enjoy your poisonous sweet talk more then I." She replied back as she turned her gaze away from him. " You are right, I can get attention elsewhere, but whats the point of that when those people aren't are the same level as you and I." Io didn't respond and ignored him till he smirked and walked off. Mercury broke the silence with his comment of reassurance. " Is it just me or has he been more of a stickler lately. Anyways, just forget about him, you got bigger fish to fry Io." Io only shrugged and sighed deeply as she sunk down into the leather couch nearby and rested her feet on the arm of it. " I can't help being the doe in a den full of wolves. Someone's always looking to get at your neck some way or another."
