( Io's name is pronounced eye-yo for those who didn't know ^ ^)
White lights, a bright ghostly glare temporary blinds her and a sharp pain runs through her arm from the long slender needle of the syringe protruding from it. She starts to shake like crazy and the room starts spinning into a kaleidoscope of insanity, narrated by the constant beep of a heart monitor. Then ultimate darkness.
What had been the beeping of heart monitor had now morphed into the siren of a alarm clock.
Dark blue light fills her vision and soon the fuzzy lights of the city that glowed outside the window. The sky was a deep shade of blue as dawn was drawing near, its enveloping fingers of light and shadow creeping through the streets of a dark city. Io rolled out of bed and slumped to the floor but jumped back up soon after. She reached for her jacket in the darkness and slipped it on while walking towards the computer desk nearby and flipping on the desktop lamp. Grabbing a bottle full of capsules, Io popped a couple of the turquoise pills into her mouth and then reached for her cellphone, slipping the tiny device into her pocket. She then turned towards the door and walked outside.
The hall outside her bedroom was bright in contrast to her dark living quarters. Not many in Midgar were up at this time of day, but this wasn't true for Shinra Headquarters, the halls were packed like a hive of busy bees. Infantrymen walking every which way and sparse numbers of other staff weaving through them. Io walked sluggishly towards the elevator while she was still in a sleepy stupor and then pushed the up button. She zipped up to the SOLDIER floor in only a matter of moments and out she stepped onto the newly waxed tile flooring of the soldier floor, the heels of her boots clicking ever so slightly as she wandered towards the SOLDIER lounge and stepped inside. She took notice of the chaotic and noisy environment of lower ranked soldiers messing around and conversing, though there was one who stood out like a sore thumb, one who wore a uniform of solid black, the uniform worn only those of First Class. It was her friend Mercury goofing around with a coupled 2nd Classers in a game of pool. The stoic expression on Io's glum face changed to a cheery one when she saw him. A couple 3rd classers nearby gave a look of concern when Io smiled, it was a event that would get anyone who knew Io into a rut of worry since most knew Io to be quiet a stoic and cruel individual. So as a result a few SOLDIER tried to avoid eye contact and kept their wild behavior to a minimum. A flash of bright red leather caught Io's eye as the room went a eerie quiet and another familiar face came walking through the room. Many of the men in the room either saluted or stood at attention to show respect, except for Io and Mercury who seemed not to register formalities due to their rank. " A smile? Well that's a bit of surprise. You know, you look much prettier when you try to lighten up once in a while. When you look so cold and rigid it drains you of your charm" Said the charismatic tone of Genesis Rhapsodos, a fellow yet more well known member in the elite ranks of SOLDIER. He came walking through the lounge with his hands in his pockets and made a dead stop near Io. But Io only rolled her eyes as her grin turned back to a broken smile. " Why don't you go flirt with the secretaries on the 3rd floor, they might enjoy your poisonous sweet talk more then I." She replied back as she turned her gaze away from him. " You are right, I can get attention elsewhere, but whats the point of that when those people aren't are the same level as you and I." Io didn't respond and ignored him till he smirked and walked off. Mercury broke the silence with his comment of reassurance. " Is it just me or has he been more of a stickler lately. Anyways, just forget about him, you got bigger fish to fry Io." Io only shrugged and sighed deeply as she sunk down into the leather couch nearby and rested her feet on the arm of it. " I can't help being the doe in a den full of wolves. Someone's always looking to get at your neck some way or another."
Hairi was sitting at her usual spot in the SOLDIER lounge. She had opted to wake earlier than usual and had been in the lounge for quite sometime. She smiled as she read a letter that she had received from her parents. They seemed to be doing well and wanted to know how she and her twin brother were doing. Hairi looked around to see a lot of the SOLDIER were in the lounge. Where was Tristin anyway?
A tall and handsome man with short brown hair entered the lounge donning the uniform traditional of a first class. He gave a polite smile to those who showed respect to him and his fellow 1st class. Seeing genesis talking to Io he approached the the trio of people. "Well i do hope that i am not interupting anything. How are you doing this morning Io?" he asked politely.
As her eyes wandered to the place where Io and some others were Hairi then spotted her brother. 'ill catch him later when hes settled down and had breakfast' she thought to herself as she took a bite of the fruit she had selected for her breakfast.
Genesis made little effort to say hello to either of his fellow first class operatives and only shrugged, pushing past Tristian who had just entered the lounge and disappeared out into the hallway. Io watched Genesis leave in silence and then she responded to Tristan. "Everything is going very swimmingly. And by swimmingly I mean just wonderful!" Io said crossing her arms and pulling her legs in, brooding almost like a teenager would. That's when Mercury walked over and dived onto the couch Io was sitting on and as result nearly sending her flying a few inches up in the air, making her eyes widen from the sudden feeling of being airborne. " Awww, someone is cranky, cheer up woman its only the beginning of the day !!" Mercury said in a cheerful tone as Io punched him in the arm but it only phased Mercury so little as he began to laugh. " You idiot that scared the hell out of me." Io complained looking a little frazzled as she crossed one leg over another and leaned her chin into her palm. Mercury was the first to say hello to Tristan by waving his arm wildly at him. " Good morning Tristan how are you doing?"
Tristin chickled ad Mercurys enthusiastic greeting. "I am doing well , just comming in to relax a little before any missions arise. " He then took a seat on the other side of Io. "anything good to eat?" he asked in his usual kind and cheery demeanor.
Hairi looked back over towards the group to notice that tristin was in pretty deep conversation. She chuckled to herself. 'fine tristin be that way i will put the letter under your door.' she thought ot herself as she stood from the couch she had been sitting on and after having put away her dishes headed down the hall towards her brothers room. Her brother being a 1st class got a much larger room and didnt have to have a roommate like she did, but that never bothered Hairi. She then came across his door and slid the envelope under. " she then made her way back down the hall her long brown hair flowing behind her. When not on a mission she would let her hair remain down. It was so much hassle to put it up and leave it up ALL day so she just kept some hair ties on hand.
" Well breakfast is usually the same old cafeteria food, its not that there is anything new today. Unless... you prefer Chocobo sausage to be good. . . ." Mercury said speaking in a saddened voice that quickly went away and was replaced with a cheery smile. " Why must you obsess over chocobos so much Mercury, its not like we ever seen any in the city." Io said looking a little annoyed. " Well its absolutely shameful that they use such wonderful animals in breakfast food !!!"
