If you're that strongly against it then why are you still considering taking the job?
because i need this job badly. my husband is supporting us and i wanna start helping. moreso, it would be my first big sign

It looks to me like you're looking for someone to tell you to go for it because that's what you really want to do. Personally I would cash in my morals for any amount of money but if that's what you want to do then stop whining and go do it.
I visited some third world countries where loving animals is the strangest thing they've ever heard.
I've become completely apathetic to most of the animal cruelty cause... I believe we should preserve species and such, but fur is fur. It's a way of life for thousands if not millions of people. There are so many other human atrocities and other environmental problems, that just simply overshadow animal cruelty.

And throwing away your morals is not something you should take lightly, but if I were you, I'd take it.
I saw this episode of the Janice Dickinson modeling agency, it was awesome. I wish more models would support PETA and refuse to wear fur. cry

Most high fashion (REAL) models would be fired on the spot if they refused to wear fur. When you're a model it is your job to wear whatever the designer makes, whether it be fur or something else.
But don't worry, this girl isn't going to be a successful model so standing up for her beliefs won't hurt her any.

Of course they'd be fired for not wearing what the client wants them to, but some agencies are fur-free. Another reason I love Janice. whee
HAY.
Awesome for modeling.

I start in an agency soon.
xD
But I'm supposed to do training first.

I'm not really for or against fur, specifically, though I would prefer not to, like.....touch, wear, or be near it.
Even leather.

And it's really awesome that you're so passionate about being anti-fur.

Howeverrrrrrr, I gotta tell you, straight up, wear the damn fur.
A starting model can't pick and choose like that.
You'll never get anywhere.

And you never know, by wearing some fur now, you could end up being successful and in a position to speak out against fur.
i wouldn't do it.
i value my morals a lot higher than money neutral

IMHO, if you believe what you are preaching you would not take the job, you would rather work at a Wal*mart or Macdonald's before taking a job that makes you go against your beliefs..

I'd say you were a sell out if you took the job.

I am against fur but I am very against PETA. They are terrorists and kill more animals then save them. They provide money to groups that bomb butcher shops and research labs. Don't believe me?

PETA's Dirty Secret

Hypocrisy is the mother of all credibility problems, and People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) has it in spades. While loudly complaining about the "unethical" treatment of animals by restaurant owners, grocers, farmers, scientists, anglers, and countless other Americans, the group has its own dirty little secret.

PETA kills animals. By the thousands.

From July 1998 through December 2006, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) killed over 17,400 dogs, cats, and other "companion animals." That's more than five defenseless creatures every day. PETA has a walk-in freezer to store the dead bodies, and contracts with a Virginia Beach company to cremate them.

Not counting the pets PETA spayed and neutered, the group put to death over 97 percent of the animals it took in during 2006. And its angel-of-death pattern shows no sign of changing.
Year Received† Adopted Killed Transferred % Killed % Adopted
2006 3,061 12 2,981 46 97.4 0.39
2005 2,165 146 1,946 69 89.9 6.74
2004 2,655 361 2,278 1 85.8 13.60
2003 2,224 312 1,911 1 85.9 14.03
2002 2,680 382 2,298 2 85.7 14.25
2001 2,685 703 1,944 14 72.4 26.18
2000 2,681 624 2,029 28 75.7 23.27
1999 1,805 386 1,328 91 73.6 21.39

On its 2002 federal income-tax return, PETA claimed a $9,370 write-off for a giant walk-in freezer, the kind most people use as a meat locker or for ice-cream storage. But animal-rights activists don't eat meat or dairy foods. And during a 2007 criminal trial, a PETA manager (testifying under oath) confirmed the obvious -- that the group uses the appliance to store the bodies of its victims.

In 2000, when the Associated Press first noted PETA's Kervorkian-esque tendencies, PETA president Ingrid Newkirk complained that actually taking care of animals costs more than killing them. "We could become a no-kill shelter immediately," she admitted.

PETA kills animals. Because it has other financial priorities.

PETA rakes in nearly $30 million each year in income, much of it raised from pet owners who think their donations actually help animals. Instead, the group spends huge sums on programs equating people who eat chicken with Nazis, scaring young children away from drinking milk, recruiting children into the radical animal-rights lifestyle, and intimidating businessmen and their families in their own neighborhoods. PETA has also spent tens of thousands of dollars defending arsonists and other violent extremists.

PETA claims it engages in outrageous media-seeking stunts "for the animals." But which animals? Carping about the value of future two-piece dinners while administering lethal injections to puppies and kittens isn't ethical. It's hypocritical -- with a death toll that PETA would protest if it weren't their own doing.

PETA kills animals. And its leaders dare lecture the rest of us?

Whatever animal the skin used to belong doesn't need it anymore, so why not wear it? I'm sure that the animal, if it was capable of sentient thought, wouldn't want it's body to go to waste.

most people don't know the slaughterhouse industry is separate from the leather/fur industry.
So it is a waste.

Some other sites to go to that are anti-peta or have information that questions peta:

take the job and suck it up.
very often, models have to do things they are uncomfortable with.

haha like on AMNT once they had to carry cockroaches(:

and if you refuse to wear the piece of clothing, they'll probably fire you.
bewarrrre.
Modeling agencies will take away more of your personal freedom than that. You can be sure. If you made a name for yourself you would probably be able to reject wearing fur, but not until that point. I agree that fur is horrible. I founded a animal welfare group at my school. biggrin
Blitzkrieg Beauty
I will continue to wear fur and leather, because it is simply warmer.
I don't live in the arctic but when it is -9 with a wind chill in the morning, I'll take the warmer material, thank you.

I have a rabbit skin coat. The rabbits wouldn't have ever been born if it wasn't for the coat industry, so in reality, you're not saving any rabbits.
I also have a leather jacket, which is made of cow hide. I would have eaten the cow anyway, so why not use all parts of it.

PETA is a disgusting organization. They profit from the abuse of animals.
They get sponsorship because they show disgusting videos of animal abuse, then say, "This happens in EVERY slaughter house."

EDIT: About the job. You said you need the money, and it's not like you're whoring yourself out.
Models have to do things that they aren't exactly comfortable with, sometimes, it's part of the industry.
Get passed the s**t jobs now, and someday you may have the opportunity to pick and choose your jobs. Right now you don't.

I agree completely. PETA is horrible when you euthanize a bunch of animals and dump them in a landfill but then you still say you are against animal abuse....hypocrites.

I also agree with the modeling; we all have to do some things we don't like to do in our lives but if it really bothers you, don't do it.
