Golden Era, as far as I know, refers to the dancers in places like Egypt from the 1940's-1990's. Some of these dances are Soheir Zaki, Nagwa Fouad, Samia Gamal, etc. I really like Zoe Jakes' style.

Actually I've heard that belly dancing was originally done by curvy/heavier women.

Yup, it wasn't really a body exercise thing.Most it worked on was the stomach area.
