So amusing (to me) thought.

If they sell a Wonder Woman or Xena Warrior Princess type outfit are they "being sexist" or are they "embracing and encouraging strong, independant, self reliant women"? rofl

Uh, what dose that have to do with anything?
I know tons of women who like Wonder Women and Xena, and would totally buy merch of it.
Don't really see what point you were trying to make....

Anyways, it's a really dumb shirt, and not even that clever.
Target you should know better.

You just made my point.
My point was that both of those outfits are incredibly "sexist" in the eyes of some and yet there are other women who "would totally buy merch of it."
So does that make the women who want such products or the store that gives them what they want "sexist"?

Also - @ Thread -
I don't know why some folks are singling out Target.
Do a quick google search on trophy shirt and you can find a number of places selling Trophy wife / girlfriend / husband / boyfriend shirts of various styles and colors.

Though if you want to feel insulted - FIZZM wants you to pay $75 for a Trophy Husband t-shirt.

I think it's meant to be comical. Target wants to appeal to the younger women getting married. And younger women seem to go crazy for funny one word outfits, whether on their chest or butt. o3o;

How is a Wonder Women and/or Xena shirt supposed to be sexist?

I never said "shirt". I said "outfit".
The outfits of both of those characters could easily be construed as sexist and probably designed by a man to help show off their "goodies". They certainly are not very practical outfits for going into battle.
And I'm not saying a woman can't wear them if they want.
I'm saying if Target sold them someone would be screaming "sexist!"

Some people really are sexy trophies to their (usually older) lovers. It's a fact of life. Get over it.

I'd hate to be considered a sexy trophy to someone, wouldn't you? I hate it when a guy thinks he needs to show off his woman to his friends in order to validate his ego. I've been through that before and it's irritating.

Me too. And I liked Lucy Lawless as Xena too.
But they could both still be kick a** independent women if they went into battle in something other than a glorified bikini.
I'm a guy, I enjoy looking at attractive women and I enjoyed looking at these two in their somewhat skimpy costumes.

I was simply making that point that women choose to wear all kinds of outfits and that doesn't make Target "evil' for selling something that some women want to wear and other women are offended by.

Ironically, if Target were to take the exact opposite approach and decide not to sell anything in the way of women's clothing that could be considered offensive, or in any way sexual then people would be complaining that Target was being patriarchal and stomping on their freedom of choice and so on.

That's you.
Not everyone is you.
A low quality store like Target trying to sell a shirt for $13?! Yes, that IS offensive.

I don't think that shirt is offensive.
You know what? If someone buys the shirt for themselves, it means that they could actually like it.

If the shirt had a racial slur, or pornography on it, I could understand the fuss. But really? If Jane wants to call herself a trophy, what right does Jessica have to say she can't? None. And the same logic applies to all the people involved in this thing. None of the people who are against this shirt have the right to tell any of the people who like it that they can't wear it. It's that simple.

I think Target was just being really tacky. I don't think they meant to put women down but it came across as just not seeming appropriate.

If it were just this, I'd think SJWs were on a rampage again, but considering Target also had caped girls shirts saying "looking for a hero" and similar bullshit, as well as other shirts working into this lovely pattern. Target needs to punch one of their marketers in the face.
