pokemon. back then you legit needed to grind and they didn't hold your hand nearly as much as now. I remember my first play through: I was capturing everything that came my way until 2nd gym.

supermari64 even now the only other mario game that has legit made me feel like i was in a different world was super mario sunshine. everyother one just doesnt cut it fort me.

pokemon stadium: used to play it for ages. Back then I just chose any pokemon that I liked, not taking any strategies to account.

I guess Pokemon would have been a good series to mention in my original post, as I played Red, Silver, Snap, and Stadium so often as well! smile
In no order,

-Medievil (Yes! Definitely avoid the PSP remake. I absolutely hated how it ignored the fact that, despite being a fraud knight, Fortesque STILL led the charge and just got unlucky, and he was VERY eager to prove himself in undeath. The PSP remake turned him into a wimpy coward who needed to be convinced to get off his butt and fight. And then there is that awful, annoying, unnecessary Navi-genie character!)

-The LoZ games before Twilight Princess

-Kid Icarus

-SSB series

-Pretty much all the popular games from the N64

-PKMN 1st and 2nd gen

-Daggerfall & Morrowind

-Sonic series up to SA2B

-Zombies Ate My Neighbors

-Golden Axe

-Popful Mail

-Killer Instinct

-Kings Quest series

-The Disney games for the Sega Genesis, particularly Aladdin and the Lion King.

I always started with Squirtle and Cyndaquil. Cyndaquil is definitely my favorite starter overall though.

Not stating all of them or might forget to mention some, the listed is everything I would consider childhood games pre-PS2/Xbox era (though some games from that era might be mentioned):

• Shinobi
• Sonic the Hedgehog series
• Cyborg Justice
• Thunder Force
• Streets of Rage
• Castlevania series
• LoZ: LttP & OoT
• Starfox 64
• Donkey Kong Country series
• Super Metroid
• Megaman X series
• Mortal Kombat series
• Zombies Ate My Neighbors
• Pokemon Red/Blue/Gold/Silver
• Final Fantasy series up to 10 (everything from 10-2 and up just doesn't feel like FF)
• Final Fantasy Tactics
• Battle Arena Toshinden series
• Guilty Gear: The Missing Link
• Guilty Gear X: By Your Side
• Xenogears
• Gex the Gecko
• Resident Evil series
• Silent Hill series
• Clocktower series
• Trapt series
• Tomb Raider series
• Legacy of Kain / Soul Reaver
Ragna the Bloodedge

You have great taste, rare to find someone that appreciated the Legacy of Kain series!

When I was really young I played those kids PC games like Arthur and Reader rabbit.

Then when I moved on from that it was Banjo kazooie, pokemon, pokemon snap, and donkey kong.
