I also don't fully like the art style. I'm really hyped for cliffs back, but they're so short. I hope they polish the textures a bit more and the world has some depth. The skies are INCREDIBLE though and I damn near cried when I saw the New Horizons title tease. I just hope the game feels cosy enough and like there's enough to do - New Leaf really nailed this feeling of there being lots to do in a small world and all it needed was greater depth/some smoothing out on features. I'm probably freaking out because of the island getaway marketing and that seeming so REMOTE and not at all like my cosy forest game sdhgdkjgfd but some freshness is probably good for everyone?!

Well considering that New Leaf's demo had some changes later, it's quite possible that they will continue to change and refine things. Here is a set of gifs comparing New Leaf's 2011 trailer to New Horizon's current trailer. I also worried about it not feeling forest-y, but since the island will be completely customizable, you could always add in tons of trees down the road to get that feeling. It's really no different from the older games in a way...the town is cut off mostly by tall cliffs on either side and/or the back in those, rather than water now. There was still a certain feeling of isolation.

First off - your avatar is amazing!

Secondly, thank you so much! It's been so long since New Leaf started production that I seriously forgot how many changes they made! I think I kinda repressed it LOL because they definitely jumped the gun on announcing it and the wait started to get painful. I still remember how excited the fandom got about stuff like sitting on benches outside and now we're going to get to place furniture outside, which is a pretty incredible leap forward. This is a really helpful visual reminder that the game DOES change and it still has a decent amount of time in dev! Plus we'll be able to fully personalise the town and that will go a long way to making it look less bare.

I also saw it suggested that the flatter look might be an important aesthetic when we start decorating outside. I don't know if that's why, but it might end up being true. Historically outside has always been covered up by patterns or only flowers and things. If we actually can decorate it more substantially then it might be better for the pattern not to be so stark. But textures are a thing that changes throughout the development of the game and wouldn't have been a priority for making a working demo to showcase.

Bless you for cheering me up =D

It reminds me a little of Wind Waker though (in a positive way - Wind Waker is one of my favourite games of all time and in huge parts because of its timeless look), specifically the sky and shore.

TBH I actually didn't like it the first time I watched the trailer. I saw crafting and immediately thought of it being a larger version of Pocket Camp. I don't mind playing PC, but I certainly didn't want a full game of it. So I totally understood where you were coming from in being disappointed. razz

I'm glad that they showed off some gameplay at the E3 Treehouse and that they have been releasing more info to sites like IGN and Polygon, because I know it's eased my mind. I really look forward to it now! I'm glad that you're also feeling better about it and I, too, can't wait to see what they add/change.

Also, that information on the current textures is really interesting. I hadn't given it much thought, but it makes sense to me. Thank you for sharing that information! <3

Ooooh Wind Waker is in my top 3 Zelda games and yes, I can see a resemblance! I wonder how many people will make Zelda-like islands/towns?

Also, here is an article about Mr. Resetti having to find a new job in ACNH. Apparently the game auto-saves now, too.

Shirtless Raider

Absolutely HYPED for New Horizons!!! I've been playing Pocket Camp in the mean time, with a little New Leaf on the side. It just looks so good!!

Shapeshifter

i'm pleased that villagers will get sleeves in nh. and that sheep can actually wear tops now.

Protective Healer

It has been mentioned in reports that Isabelle will be in NH. I really hope she's either the pilot or the flight attendant because seeing her in those outfites would be absolutely ADORABLE

I heard that we're going to have earn her, so I think she'll be a flight attendant sadly.
