I was just casually going through the GCD when I came across someone who mentioned that they found most events now dry and repetitive. It made me wonder: are events REALLY dry and repetitive, or have we just gotten used to them? Because although I agree that most events past 2008 (not kick-starters, I mean actual events) attract me only marginally, I can't help but think if I was a new user on Gaia, or 13 years old, some of the more recent events might actually be more interesting to me. I mean, think about it, how original can you REALLY make forum events?

I joined in the October of 2005, just a few days before the Halloween event. Honestly, I can't even really tell what it was about, other than a glorified bumping contest, but I loved it. And I would participate in it again, even though I haven't joined in an event in years.

CHOO CHOO, HERE COMES THE spoon TRAIN!

- If you can design any type of forum event, what would it be like? What kind of goals are there? What kind of prizes do you get for each tier? Would it be easy but time consuming or hard to play?

- What was your favourite event? Be fair... was it actually really good, and you were just a little newer? What made it good? The plot, the game itself, or even just something that happened during it that made you remember it fondly? How far did you get?

Halloween 2k5 has a special place in my heart as well since it was my first event. The grombie event, the pants glitch, first time trick or treating in Towns, hunting down Jack on the world map, meeting Jack for the first time. And then there was VO's journal entry about the elitism during the event and the comic that followed where Santa was slandering his buddy Jack. Such memorable times emo

Jack became my favorite NPC of all time during that event and the aftermath.

Intergalactic Sweetheart

I prefered several other Halloween events. Vampires, aliens the four way fight, ghosts that was fun. My favorite Summer event was the summer camp one. Go team Science!

2K5 was, sorry to say, one of the worst events. So much elitism was going around and if you think some people are abusing the ignore system these days? That was nothing compared to what happened at 2K5. I was so disgusted with how the community was treating each other that I refused to participate. Vo even made a post to apologize for he event, even though it was not his or the rest of the staff's fault.

Halloween 2005 is still my favorite event here as well. It was exciting, but frustrating. Yes, there were problems and lag and everything, but still I loved it. I don't know why. The grunny became my favorite thing ever on Gaia. (And not Diedrich). The storyline with Gambino and labtechs was just fun.
I was so glad they brought the grombie skins back after so many years. That was one of the best moments, for me, on here lately.
I loved trick or treating. I still do even if the items aren't that great.

Valiant Jackling

2K5 is my most hated event.

People abusing the ignore system just so they could they could level up and deny others below them from leveling up was the most obnoxious thing ever

Nerd

2k5's Halloween was fun I'll give you that but my absolute favorite event was definitely the zurg invasion of '06.
It was,to me, the perfect event it had tons of NPC interaction, user interaction, and a fun but also serious story line 3nodding
I have so many fond memories of that event I used to love logging in to find out what would happen next. 02 </3 D;

Hmm, if I designed a forum event, I would want it to really involve the community. I'd want the prizes to be designed by different Gaians. So, there'd be user made items as prizes! whee I'd want the event to be light hearted, fun, but challenging. I'd want the event to be a witch themed Halloween event. Like, defeat the evil witches to win prizes!
I think my favorite event was the Halloween one with all the ghosts. emotion_dowant I still have NPC Mantis Sr as a friend. A close second would be the Airship Captains Summer event. I also really loved the water balloon town vs. town Summer event. And who could forget the Valentine's event a couple years back? I think it was Valentine's 2k12? Great items with that event.

My favourite events will forever be the Easter events that did the zOMG Golden Egg events on zOMG. I just have soooo many good memories from the hunting thread and the event itself. I used to love the events with zOMG components the most and it really makes me sad when I think we will never have those events again.

I think the problem with events lately is that basically they have been all "post in the forum yaaaaaaay." I wanted to like the Spirit of Summer event because it had the forum battle system but also the mini-games you could play for your team (like the last Rejected Olympics event which was SO MUCH FUN) but it was all gold based to even play them and I'm like no thanks. Especially now if I'm paying gold to kickstart the dumb thing ;;

Tiny Shapeshifter

Ian's trail all the way. Sure, it got rehashed a couple times in some of Gaia's mini-events, but it was still enjoyed by many. I think the main thing about Ian's Trail is that you don't have to hunt for things throughout the forum (since it's already provided in the sticky), you discuss the facts (which gets updated at a decent pace throughout the day) with other people, and you can make your final judgement via community's poll. The simplicity this one is nice, and unlike recent events, there's no grind fests to be had, so you won't feel bad for starting in late (or not helping out enough for your team).

Wow! See, I never knew that O_O I had just joined gaia at that point and didn't realize that was a thing. I remember vaguely about threads that claimed they didn't do that and the such but I was really too new to understand most stuff. >__<;; ignorant lil baby starrii LOL

I used to love trick or treating, I don't know why I stopped :/ Maybe because the items have been meh

But event items have recently been really nice. So maybe I'll do it again this year 4laugh

zomg!

I remember the golden easter egg thing, >__< I still have a fortunes favour somewhere around in my inventory. I haven't played zomg in a while, it's kind of sad what happened to it, but I guess it just wasn't earning enough to justify new content. Still, I remember all that shenanigans with layer hopping and what not. Really confusing @_@;;

I don't really like the gold based games either, although I can understand it fitting into the theme (since you're at a festival.) I mean, it was pretty marginal amounts of gold. but i agree it stopped me from playing as much as I probably could have. It'd be nice if it was like, more of a token system like the casinos. I don't know why I like that idea more, but I do O_O;;

I was also a newbie around Halloween, but that was two years prior. Didn't trick or treat cause I was just trying to get a feel for the site.

I think one of the reasons why I loved Grave Danger so much because one of the ghosts was a stack of pancakes. Ghost Pancakes, now that was creative.
