Ah, I wondered the same thing for a bit. Envy's character was really hard to decipher! Although, after reading and watching FMA, Envy is male. smile

My first thought was female. Envy's personality seems more like a masculine form of girlishness than anything else. Also, envy, when personified, is commonly female.

that's only in the first anime, there's none of any of that in brotherhood or the manga

hes a guy. in the original anime he was dante's and hoheinheim unborn child that he tried to bring back you see his actual face at the end. in he manga im almost positive hes a guy too. don't they refer to him as "he and him"

Atully Envy is male, if you look at All the homunculi, they take on the Gender of the person they were sapost to be, Envy is the homunculi form of Edward and Al's Brother, so there for he is male!! exclaim exclaim exclaim

he was male, but i believe that as a shape-shiftting homunculi he's genderless. Since he was a male when alive, i think that's why he takes a male form most often. in the full metal alchemist profiles book, Arakawa actually calls him "it" so it's pretty much up to the reader/viewer to decide.
