It's one of those things that has to do with perspective. Like pornography, some feminists say it's degrading to women, others believe it's cool because of the sexual freedom and junk.

Me, I think a woman should wear what she wants, as long as she wasn't pressured by a man.

The rose in spring
clothing is the only issue where feminists are split on the issue?

Hah-wha?

What?

Feminism is quite a diverse movement. There are much more debates going on within the community than just those about clothes.

Personally, I believe it's about choice and respect. We have to respect other people's desire to dress how they like and not hinder their ability to choose how they dress.

"Feminists" who call other women sluts for the way they dress are terrible feminists imo. That whole faction that went up against pornography and female sexuality being visible in any shape or form really set us back as a movement more than anything.

Personally, I love fashion and like embracing feminine clothing. I also like to be comfortable and don't mind wearing some items from the men's department. I don't think when I buy clothes "What does this say about me as feminist?", I just worry about looking what I consider cute and chic.

We shouldn't try to oppress women even MOAR and police each other on how we dress.

I'm all about fostering communication, acceptance, and understanding and you can't do that when you're slut-shaming and disrespecting people.

Eh, skirts that run almost to hip level, shirts that let their breasts almost completely hang out and run up so high that they expose their rib-cage.

That sort of thing.

Eh, you had me till the last one. What the hell is so obscene about a belly button?
Probably more of a personal thing than anything. I don't really care if the belly-button is showing, but when it starts running up as high as the fork of your ribcage...eh.
So a slut is anything you don't like.

Brilliant. confused
You don't have to be a slut to look like one.
Which leads to the confusing situation where you can be a slut and not look like one. How does that even work?

Oh, wait, that's right.

Clothing means d**k all. Some of the most promiscuous people I knew were dapper as ******** seem to be missing the point here.

I don't give a ******** what the person is. Telling someone to dress with some modesty in public isn't the same thing as telling someone to stop being a slut.
It seems to me that on the non-modest side of the issue, women need to learn a principle or two about art, such as how colors are used to draw the eye to a specific point before leading it around the rest of the work.

My point being, if cleavage-showing women do not want their cleavage to be look at-- or, for that matter, gawked at-- it should not be exposed. Thinking that men are pigs because we look at boobs is essentially blaming a child for staring at the cartoon you sat the child in front of.

Context matters. Hustler is distinctly objectifying and degrading, Playboy less so.

It's an ideal I like, but it's incredibly difficult to discern whether she is or isn't.

How does someone look like a slut if sluts look like everyone else?

Especially when they don't make any sense.

Let me clarify:
It's easy to claim virtue or deny fault when you're an anonymous face on the internet, and can't actually verify that you're living up to your claims.
Not seeing what that has to do with me "Rewarding them"

It has to do with your claim that you don't. It's easy to say, when no one can actually call you on it.
Except I didn't mention a thing about that until you brought it up out of the blue.

The only thing I brought up was that women are rewarded for dressing like sluts, even as they're criticized for doing so.

There are plenty of clothing that can compliment a woman's figure without making them look like a slut.

Be it just my opinion, but it wouldn't kill em to dress a bit more modestly.

Would really help if we had better hard and fast rules on what constitutes "look like a slut"

does a guy find you hot? are you not interested in doing him?

there's your hard and fast rules. if you make him hard, and reject him fast, then that's the rule.

The rule is simple. If you look like you'd blow anyone for a quarter, you're a slut.

I hereby vote that the new definition of "slut" be as follows: any woman or man with ears where their genitals are, and genitals where their ears go that lactates sulfuric acid from a bovine udder.

if you are not describing such a person, then you are using the word improperly.
!2 year olds are being used as hookers in the back of porn mags. But clothing is the big issues for Feminists. This is why I think they are jokes.

I am not buying them. It was on a underground news site.

That sounds like a problem everyone should be giving a ******** about, not just feminists.
