Done.
He checks his watch. A quarter to twelve. His cracked and peeling lips tugged up in what seemed to be a smile.
“Perfect. Just Perfect.”
Mahina’s head snapped up. She had closed her eyes for a second, thinking about work, and how the heck she was going to ever complete her tasks her boss had given her; and fell into something of a doze. She willed her eyes to stay open, she just had to finish this page, and she’d be free to go. She had been too close to the promotion she’d been working her butt off for the last three years for sleep; no matter how comforting it seemed now. Mahina shoved her chair back from her workspace, and stomped towards the stove.
“Espressoooo. Thank God for you, my little friend.” She murmured pouring herself a cup. She raised it to her lips, almost about to take a sip, and a roar came behind her, sending the cup to the floor.
He chuckled, typing furiously. He pounded down enter and took his cursor to the file. A full fledged grin was visible on his pale skin, and with a touch of a button, all that was on the screen was going terribly wrong.
The espresso splattered on her pants, and the cup and saucer lay shattered on the white tile; but Mahina’s gaze wasn’t upon either. She had scrambled back to the computer, glancing about the screen, while the annoying blaring of the speakers continued on. Her presentation and been shut out and multiple files were disappearing before her eyes. She kicked the wall with her foot; but too late to realize what a stupid thing it was to do, because along with the computer going haywire; she did not need her foot throbbing. She pressed at the hologram of keys on the table, trying to remember how to fix this. She gasped, and typed what she thought could save this- the network and her job.
The boy glared at the screen. She had been there, and she was now trying to fix it. This wasn’t part of his plan. She wasn’t supposed to be there. The network was going to be down when she came in the office tomorrow, completely wiped clean. Angry, he went to email, and attached the file, marking it as: New Work Plans Read ASAP. Clicking Send, he slumped back in his chair and waited for the system to react.
At first, it seemed to work. The computer had quieted, and it was just staying how it was. And then, a small box in the corner of her screen told her she had an email. She hesitated for a moment, and clicked on the bubble. An Internet browser opened, and directed her towards hotmail. She logged in her account, and clicked on the Mail tab. There it was. The only email in her inbox. She read the subject and steered the cursor towards it.
He was sitting there, waiting for her to open the letter. He tapped his foot impatiently, and hissed, “How long does it take to open one freakin’ email?”
Mahina had done no more then open the file when her computer screen turned black with white words spouting nonstop. She pounded on the table, surprised at her blind behavior. She typed in what she thought was the solution, and yet, the blurbs seemed to speed up after that. She sighed in disgust. There was nothing she could do. The hacker had gotten his way.
She awoke the next morning at her desk, and peeled her face from the table. She looked at the screen and cursed. She was surely going to be fired. She pulled herself up, and went to wall mirror. Mahina grimaced and combed through her hair with her fingers. “Well, maybe I’ll go do something I really wanna do now. Yeah.. That’s it..” She thought, trying so hard to convince herself. Her office door swung open and Samuel walked in.
“Mahina, Harv wants to see you.” He looked at her in almost a sympathetic manner.
“ ‘Kay Samuel, tell him I’ll be there in a sec.” She told him.
“Mahina, he’s pissed. Now, sorry hun.” He responded and gently put a hand on her back, and guided her towards Harv’s office.
Samuel stood in his office, hours after Mahina’s firing. He stood looking out the window, and watched as the young blonde girl he had once worked with strolled out the door, a cardboard box in her hands. He smirked. “Perfect. It worked out after all.”
