Name: Naia Knight

Age: 2 years old (born 12/27/03), probably in her early 20's

Species: Fa'e

Race: Mermaid, former Shoggoth

Appearance: Naia is on the shorter side 5'4" since she stands on her tail and slithers to walk. Yes, tail. A purple-scaled tail extends from her waist and ends in a plume of light blue and violet fins. The mermaid's skin is cyan blue except for several white circular spots on her upper arms and cheekbones. There's also some neon green coloration around her eyes.

Her hair is a light purplish pink color, with the odd multicolored highlight, and falls down to her midback. It generally tends to get away from her and tangles and goes wild, but somehow, when she plans to go see her boyfriend, she reins it in a puts it in some sort of braid. Naia's ears may look dangerously spiky, as may her multi-colored dorsal fin-wings, but they're harmless. They only resemble that of the poisonous lionfish, we swear. Since she is a mainly aquatic creature, Naia has a set of three gills on either side of her torso roundabout the end of her ribcage.

Despite spending most of her free time in the water, she isn't muscular, and has no desire to get this way. In fact, she's rather lazy when it comes to working out and this whole "sparring" thing she hears other Fa'e talk about... why would you want to practice with weapons? Seemed silly, really, unless you were a little kid.

Naia doesn't really have much use for skirts or dresses (the excess of fabric makes her self conscious), but will get spiffed up for a Fa'e gathering, so you'll generally see her in any sort of top, usually well-fit. On one of her wrists she will invariably be wearing the bracelet Anen made for her.

Special Abilities: Naia can breathe underwater and develop a rapport with sea creatures. She can't talk to them, but most are willing to go out of their way to interact with her in an uncharacteristically friendly manner. She can also affect the ocean somewhat with her moods. It's an unmastered ability. If she's sad or crying, a storm might blow in with lightning and rain. If she's angry, then the waves respond and, perhaps, if strong enough emotions let loose, a hurricane might occur. However, she's taking good care to learn how to keep these little power "leaks" from happening.

Personality: Naia isn't a stupid Fa'e--far from it as she reads everything in sight. She just... doesn't particularly care to know, and takes that attitude about a lot of things. She is struggling to change that attitude because of her boyfriend's "popularity" amongst their little community. She glosses over a lot of facts and misses a lot of goings-on because she's off thinking on things. Quite often she's heard news second or even third hand and been shocked, even though she was there when it occurred. She tends to think of a lot of questions, but doesn't ask them for fear of coming across as rude or intrusive.

She's definitely content to follow the ignorance is bliss philosophy (as espoused by her Guardian).

Naia is introversive and rarely leaves her home. Her best friends are her family, her pets, and her boyfriend. The other Fa'e just... hold no socialization interest to her, which is rather sad, she's beginning to realize. When out amongst the others, she feels very overwhelmed and tired, but takes everything with a nervous laugh and smile. Children seem to gravitate towards her, and she can understand them best. They're the easiest to trust; it's when they're older she'll begin to worry. ome of the older Fa'e, the ones who seem too drawn to her or too interested in her business, she doesn't trust and dislikes talking to--although she'd never tell them to their face unless pushed. Strangely enough, the disinterested Fa'e make her feel more at home, less watched.

The contradictions get to her sometimes. She realizes how cut off she's made herself and worries, but just can't stand to go out there alone. This has gotten worse since her mother's accident, and recently discovering how quickly the daughter she and Anen had has grown up.

Strengths: Smart, genuine, funny, energetic, empathetic, idealistic

Flaws: Introverted, innocence, untrusting, bull-headed, gets overwhelmed easily

Favorite word: Sarcopterygia (subclass of fleshy-finned fish that includes coelacanths and lungfish)

Favorite food: Sushi... or spaghetti (since she and Anen made it once)

Favorite movie: Anything old (specially monster movies), but it's a toss up between Arsenic and Old Lace, Clash of the Titans, and Rocky Horror Picture Show
