Though clouds decorated the sky in patches the sun's rays still shined down through the cracks to give light to the decaying planet; many shadows allowed places to hide, but not to the fullest extent of what could exist, but at least monsters didn't roam the street in clusters like they do when there was no natural light and heat. However, it wasn't empty either, people would need to be cautious, but that was no different from any other day. Quietly, in a low position by a cracked window that shined in this yellow color, a woman with dark raven hair hid in the darkness from a groaning beast aimlessly staring at the wall, ready to sneak up and kill it without much of a hassle. Reaching down to draw the blade from it's sheath, grabbing the hilt and giving it a light tug, there was a loud thud against the wood ground that caused the woman to tense quickly. Gritting her teeth together, picking up the object that caused such a obnoxious noise - her pistol that fell from the rim of her jeans with the slightest jerk; the zombie groaned, turning with it's arms extended in the most cheesiest horror movie stance preformed by a bad actor. "Stupid ******** gun."

Frustrated tone that came so easily with brows furrowed in anger, the woman released an annoyed sigh while watching the creature draw near, pulling out her blade but holding it at her side. As it got close, she shoved the blade against one of it's hands, pushing it aside though barely scratching the side; but with her other hand, she slammed the gun against the rotting corpse's frail head, knocking it to the ground with a good amount of force. It landed on his front, but using her foot against his side, she shoved him onto his back to give a fatal blow to the brain directly through the right eye using her sharp blade. It flailed for a moment, making strange noises, but the strong and cold heart of the woman remained unfazed by such nonsense. Finally, removing the impaled blade from it's spot, she grabbed a nearby object to smash against the monster's head till it was flattened.

Ensuring that it was dead, the house was cleared from anything that moved beside herself, now she could search it in peace.

Darkness is inside a building trying to stealth kill an enemy, however the gun that she kept in the rim of her jeans fell out and caused a noise, though she still managed to kill the enemy with relative ease, it still wasn't as simple as she had hoped for. Still, the place was now clear for her to check the place for supplies.

tab Convenient store doors were pried open by gloves fingers, electricity was out providing no automatic doors or even lights on within the building it seemed. Once the doors stood open, the figure slid his body between the two doors and then let them loose, closing with a gentle thud. Instantly his hands moved swiftly and skillfully to the rifle slung across his chest, his left hand holding the pistol grip, his index finger resting just outside of the trigger-well, his right hand coming up to hold the grip pod that was attached underneath the rail of the weapon. Shouldering the weapon, his left thumb ready to flip the safety to semi in case he encountered hostiles within the small convenient store.

tab Light shone through the large open windows giving away his Army Multi Cam Uniform he wore, a large assault pack on his back, as well as a tomahawk holstered on the front of his armored vest. The figure used the stock of his weapon to push his helmet up on his head adjusting it to keep from pushing his sunglasses down his face. Resetting the position of his weapon he slowly moved his right hand up to the PEQ-15 on the right side of his rail, he flipped a small switch and on turned his bright flashlight, illuminating a small cone in front of the barrel of the M4. He grabbed the tactical sun glasses that sat on his face, that were dimming his vision, with his right hand and slowly slid them into his pocket, making sure not to move his rifle around too much. He needed to keep aware of his surroundings. Finally comfortable with himself he placed his right hand back onto the grip pod and steadied the weapon.

tab "United States Army! I'm Specialist Huang, are there any survivors in here? I'm here to assist in any way possible!" He yelled out, risking his position to the things that walked the street and overran his unit earlier. He still had a mission to do and that was to save as many people as possible, even at the risk of his own life.

But she was dealing with it the best she could. None of it felt real, it felt like she was simply an actress in one of the horror movies everybody used to sit around on the couch and watch. The young girl glanced out the window of the ransacked shop, her bright blue eyes falling on a mangled zombie, shuffling slowly down the sidewalk past the convenience store, oblivious to its surroundings. It let out a low groan for the world around it to hear. Only a week since everything had fallen apart, but at least she still had her sister and Max. It took three days to convince Jaime to let her go on her own, but it had worked and Katie was still alive and breathing - and she was actually being useful now.

Katie quietly stepped backwards from the window, eyes scanning the store for any signs of undead. Nothing was in sight. The blonde began to move through the aisles, hoping to find something of use. Her and Jamie had been set with enough supplies, until now that was. While they had started out with a lot, they moved through it so quickly. Thin fingers grazed the surface of the empty shelf, her sneakers sinking down onto the trash beneath her feet. There was absolutely nothing for them to use. A feeling of dread crept over her, knotting in her stomach, a feeling of failure. "That's okay... there's always more places." Katie whispered to herself under her breath. She walked to the end of the aisle, hoping that maybe there was something in the empty store.

The doors to the store creaked as someone opened them. In alarm, Katie quickly pulled the small pocket knife her sister had told her to carry from the front pocket of her hoodie. Fumbling with it for a moment, she managed to free the blade before peaking her head around the corner of the aisle to see just what... or who, had entered. The young girl laid eyes on a man... a live one. What caught her attention even more were the weapons on him. Jaime had told her to run if she ran into anyone. The words that escaped the man's mouth caused Katie to question her sister's advice though. She moved herself fully into view, raising her hands above her head, the pocket knife poorly clenched between her fingers. "Please don't hurt me."

I'm located Convenience Store I'm with Huang

"Call my name just as loud as you can, I will adore so,
more so, I really wanna scream."

Soft footsteps could be heard, if someone chose to listen, as Astrid's feet made contact in rapid succession with the sun-baked sidewalk. Any creature with eyes could see her small frame topped with her bright red hair strolling quickly down the street as the autumn sun beat down on her from directly above. Lifting her free hand, while the other clutched a large bat that hung by her side, she pushed strands of hair away from her eyes as she spotted a few zombies several paces away up the road. While there wasn't as many as there would be if it was night instead of afternoon, she didn't feel like dealing with three at once. Stopping in her tracks, the woman let out a soft huff as one of the creatures began to turn its disgusting and decaying head in her direction. Glancing to her right, she pushed open the glass door of a store and darted silently inside to avoid any further attention.

Looking around the open space, she saw no other moving threat in the building. Apparently she had sought refuge in a bar - expensive bottles of alcohol were smashed to pieces along the shelves behind the bar counter and across the floor. Taking a tentative step away from the door and further in the building, her converse sneakers crunched the glass littering the floor as she made her away over to the bar to glance behind it. There were a few bottles still managing to stand around those that had been destroyed and the empty spaces of those that had been stolen. After her bright, green eyes swept the area once more, she carefully placed her bat on the counter and then placed both hands on the dusty, wooden surface to lift herself up to crawl over the structure. Besides the crunch of broken glass under her feet, she landed softly and ducked behind the bar to remain hidden. Reaching over, she grabbed an old bottle of abandoned whiskey from a shelf, pried it open, and took a swig. With a satisfied sigh, she placed the bottle down, lifted herself back up into a standing position, and grabbed her bat once more.

Adjusting the backpack full of quickly dwindling supplies that rested on her shoulders, Astrid decided to peek in the back rooms behind the bar area for anything useful. Walking over swiftly to a closed door, she pushed it open slowly without much resistance to reveal the kitchen area... and a lone zombie, which turned slowly toward her with her arrival. Swearing under her breath, she raised her bat defensively as it began to make its way toward her, making low, growling noises as it went. Stepping further into the space and toward the dead, she lifted her large weapon over her shoulder and swung with as much force as she could muster. The bat made contact with her target and a loud crack could be heard as she damaged the skull of her enemy, knocking it to the floor as it released strange noises in protest. Looking down at it with disgust, she raised her weapon over her head and swung down once more to crush the head in a final blow. Panting slightly from the effort, she took a few steps back away from the silenced creature. After prying her eyes away from the sight, she glanced down to notice the splatters of blood that now decorated her jeans and the woman swore again. Well, it looked like she needed to find something else to wear - she had no more clean pants left. But first, she need to thoroughly check the kitchen for any supplies scavengers foolishly left behind.

Emotion: Cautious

Company: No one

Whereabouts: Local bar

{TL;DR}
After spotting some zombies down the road, Astrid takes refuge in an abandoned and trashed bar. Entering carefully, she checks her surroundings before crawling over the bar to grab a lone bottle of whiskey among the smashed bottles. Taking a large sip, she places the bottle down to head back to the kitchen to search for supplies. Encountering a lone zombie inside, she takes it out with some effort with her large and heavy bat in two hard blows. Noticing the blood now splattered on her jeans from the creature, she decides she needs to search for more clothes, but only after she searches the kitchen for any remaining supplies.

xxxxStep by step, he made his way down the sidewalk of some street that he had never even heard of. The events of the previous week circled through his thoughts━ the news stories that invaded his television shows to talk about some kind of disease or something that made people go crazy, scrambling to decide what to pack in his backpack when he was told that the entire city was evacuating, hearing the explosion soon after he left. All of it just made him crave constancy. He was so used to his daily routine, and now it was all screwed up because of some━ whatever it was!

xxxxHe spotted the remains of an infected person strewn about the sidewalk about a dozen yards ahead of him. His hand tensed around the hammer he was holding. It looked dead. As he approached the mauled flesh, his heart quickened. Before all of this, he had only ever seen a dead person at a wake, and even then it freaked him out. A series of noises came out of nowhere, and Cinder jumped, nearly wetting himself thinking that the splattered corpse had somehow been reanimated. Seeing that it remained lifeless, he realized that the source of the noises had come from the house to the right of him. Something was alive in there, and Cinder had no intention of finding out what it was. He turned around thinking about where he wanted to go. If he kept on going straight, there would probably be a lot more houses with either people or non-people wandering about. Although, going straight seemed to be his only option because the way behind him only became denser with the infected as you went. He had seen fewer infected as he came into this area.

xxxxHe started walking quickly down the street, away from the bloody remains painted to the sidewalk, and away from whatever lurked behind the walls of that house. Nothing would have thrilled him more than a drink at that moment, but alas he was not in possession of one, so he just kept walking. He turned a corner up ahead and to his misfortune he saw three gruesome figures standing in the center of the street. An audible gasp sucked air into his rapidly working lungs as he ducked quickly behind a garbage can. 'Did they see me?! I'm such an idiot!' The muffled sounds of their groaning were the only noises to penetrate through the air. Cinder peeked around the garbage can as cautiously as he could. They didn't seem to have noticed him. What could he do? He had a hammer and a Swiss army knife. He surely couldn't take on three zombies at once. perhaps he could wait them out. They had to move at some point.

xxxxThe groans slowly became louder. Cinder looked around the garbage can once more. They were making their way towards him, and now at a faster pace since they saw his face. He had no time to think about his actions. He stood up and started sprinting down the sidewalk past the zombies. He looked back, and they seemed to be chasing him. He rushed to open a door to a building on the right of him, slammed the door shut, and locked it once he made it inside. Cinder laid his back against the wooden door and slid down to the floor, his head now buried in his knees. Soon enough the moans were on the other side of the door accompanied with banging and scratching. They'd leave eventually, wouldn't they?

tab Hearing the voice of someone, of a girl, got Mishiranu’s attention as he adjusted the barrel of his rifle in the general direction of the voice, allowing himself to gain complete vision of the person standing in front of him. A girl, a teenage girl. He evaluated the girl again but instead of seeing a blonde haired blue eyed teenage girl, he saw a black haired brown eyed Muslim civilian girl lying on the ground, two rounds in her chest, one in her head. He wanted to scream as flashbacks of his time in Afghanistan assaulted him relentlessly, call for a medic, or put a round in his head to just end the painful memories. But he couldn't not right now, not when he could at least maybe help this one.

tab Releasing a shuddering breath that he didn't know he had been holding, he quickly wanted to make the girl feel safer, not pointing a loaded rifle at her. Mishiranu released the magazine, grabbing it with his right hand, next he pulled the bolt to the rear allowing the loaded round to eject from the chamber, he quickly caught the round before it could touch the ground and pushed the items into a magazine pouch on his chest carrier. He flipped the weapon to semi, squeezed the trigger, and listened to his weapon click as the weapon fired with an unloaded chamber: ensuring the weapons safety.

tab “H-Hi.” Mishiranu’s voice cracked horribly, he admonished himself, now was not the time to dwell on the past, and it was definitely not the time to look weak. Kneeling down, he let his weapon hang from the sling across his chest and moved his hands to rest on his thighs, tightly gripping the fabric of his trousers to prevent the girl from seeing his unsteady hands. “I’m not going to hurt you, I promise. I’m with the Army trying to help out as many people who aren't sick, with whatever’s happening. Is there any way at all that I can help you with?” He kept his voice soft as he talked; doing his best to soothe what seemed to be a frightened girl who was scavenging for supplies.,

She had managed to avoid seeing death so clearly up until now. These past few days, while her sister had been making her promise not to interact with others, Katie had kept insisting that just because things were bad now, didn't mean people were suddenly bad too. No, Katie had full hope in humanity. Well, until now. While she had froze up for a moment, the realization suddenly hit her that she could run. But before she could, the man lowered his gun, emptying the bullet from his weapon. Katie let out a breath of relief, lowering her hands to her side. It wasn't until now that she realized how tense she had grown, or that her hands had been trembling ever-so-slightly.

"Hi." She returned, a little less uneasy now that she realized this man was not a danger to her. Her voice was quiet, but not as frightful and unsure as before. Katie, after spending a moment struggling with the pocket knife to slide the knife back in, put it back in her pocket. Her blue eyes watched the man unsurely. When he repeated that he was in the army again, she couldn't help but feel a glimmer of hope. "Does that mean you guys are here to save everyone?" The hope in her voice was more than apparent. Katie naively thought that the army was the answer to everything, they were the protectors of the country.

The small girl began walking towards the man, any fear she had now gone. "I'm Katie. As to how you can help, I'm really just looking for food..." Moving over towards the wall, Katie removed a crumpled piece of line paper from her pocket, following it a pen. She pressed the paper to the wall, eyes glancing over it. She had been drawing a map of the area, and with her art skills, it looked rather accurate. Katie marked an 'x' over one of the squares, the store she was in now. Little marks were all over the paper, telling her which places were empty, which ones were too dangerous to go in, and the place that she had been staying. "We're really low on food, so I need to keep looking."

I'm located Convenience store I'm with Mishiranu

Gas had hit zero, and it wasn't due to lack of it either. It took Jaime a little to figure out what it was, but she had. A gas leak, of course with her luck that was bound to happen. The truck had only taken them a day away from the house, so it had gotten pretty far, but not far enough. Georgia, that was where she had heard to go. Of course other havens had been mentioned, but not like that one had. The past six days they had been staying in a small, six roomed motel. Probably one that used to attract the local crack heads. Jaime had cleared out was few zombies were in it within the first day. Room two at the Sunny Palm Motel had been serving as their temporary home.

Now, Jaime was quietly walking down the sidewalk, a backpack haphazardly strewn over one shoulder and a large, heavy metal baseball bat held tightly in her right hand. After she found what she needed, she was to head back to the motel and meet up with Katie again. Max, her German Sheppard companion, had been left in the motel room with some food and water. The neighborhood she strolled through now was probably a nice one in its previous days. But now the ground was decorated in the occasional bloody corpse and the street was littered with empty vehicles. Jaime's eyes scanned the scene before her.

Movement managed to catch her attention, three zombies scratching at the door of a house. Jaime watched in silence for five minutes from the other side of the street, staring at the creatures. When they had failed to let up, she decided that they had probably been there for a while, leaving her to think the place was probably abandoned, abandoned with supplies. Maybe she would find food inside and if not, maybe something useful in the garage that could be used to repair the truck. After a couple moments, she decided to go for it. She walked across the street, cautiously watching the creatures gathered around the door. Jaime now grasped the baseball bat in both hands, standing only a little bit aways from the figures now.

Jaime readied her weapon. Once she was prepared, she let out a sharp, loud whistle for them to hear, as she wanted a chance to run - should she have to. Their heads turned around slowly and then they began quickly shuffling towards her, two moving at a slower pace than the one who took the lead. Once the first one got close enough, Jaime used every ounce of strength in her body to swing the bat at the zombie's skull, making impact with its head. The creature's body fell to the ground, letting out a moan. With another blow, Jaime managed to finish it. The other two approached, their hands were outstretched towards her. In one quick motion, she stepped back, swinging the bat once more and taking a second one down. The last one, however, had managed to grab a hold of her arm. She tried to pull it away, but it didn't work. It's open mouth neared her skin. Quickly, she released her left hand from the bat and reached to pull the screwdriver from her belt, sinking the tool into the zombie's eyeball. Jaime pulled the screwdriver out, causing a sickly squish. Having handled the three that were blocking the door, she could now enter. She placed the screwdriver back into her belt and jogged up to the door, placing her hand on the door knob and beginning to turn. However, it refused to turn. She fiddled with it, coming to the conclusion it was locked. "You've got to be kidding me...."

SPC. Huang, Mishiranu
- 3rd Brigade Combat Team - 1st Cavalry -

▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬

tab Mishiranu’s heart dropped. Save everyone? That was their mission and he believed in it 100% but now that he was finally questioned about it; he had to think about what he could do. He was a single soldier; for all he knew he was all that was left of the 1st Cavalry in the north, the last survivor out of four thousand seven hundred soldiers. Cavalry Men who were spending the rest of eternity in Fiddler’s green. The mere thought made his heart clench at the thought of all his friends and battle buddies that had died on their own soil, not even to an enemy military. Mishiranu suddenly felt the need to breathe, he felt constricted with his damn helmet on. He released his tight grip on his trousers, shakily released the buckle of his Kevlar helmet and pulled it off his head, releasing a few strands of his spiky blonde hair that wasn't pulled back into a bun on top of his head. Mishiranu looped the helmet through a ring on the side of his chest carrier, his shaking hands prolonging the process. Taking in deep, slow breathes, he slowly calmed his body and lowered his heart rate, but it didn't stop the shaking.

tab But now that he looked to the girl how was he going to answer her? Standing up Mishiranu kept his hands together, squeezing them painfully and playing with the loose fabric of the gloves that covered his skin. He moved to stand next to her and look at the drawing that she had made of what seemed to be their general location. A map. Maybe she would just forget that she had asked about the Army if he inquired about the map and her food supply, even company, she had said ‘we’re’ didn't she? Mishiranu berated himself, he was missing details because of his stupid feelings, goddammit he needed his pills again. But he needed to wait, it was too early.

tab “That’s a well drawn map you have there.” Mishiranu complemented as he separated his hands and grabbed his own from a pouch underneath his right arm, that would've contained a canteen, a slight clinking of metal sounded from the pouch as he removed a folded up topographic map of their general area. He held it up next to the girls, the slight trembling of his hands shaking the paper. “It’s definitely a lot more useful than mine here.” He said with a slight smile, trying to ease his own nerves more than the girls. He felt pathetic; this girl in front of him seemed calmer than he was: a seasoned soldier, some soldier. Ignoring his self-degradation he compared the maps, his had the general geographies of the area; hills, plains, forests, etc. But it was outdated and didn't have the towns where they were. He was basically blind to his location.

tab “So you’re with someone? Are they here with you, are they okay?” He questioned, before setting down his map and taking off the assault pack on his shoulders. He set the heavy piece of gear on the ground with a thump and released the buckles around the largest compartment, then unzipped it. He moved away his few spare changes of clothes and a wet weather top to show four brown packages tucked away into the side of the pack next to some spare magazines filled with ammo, “I have a few meals ready to eat that I can spare, if you can ration them they could last you awhile. They don’t exactly taste the best, but it’s a decent hot meal.” He told her, he felt anxious for some reason; maybe this was the feeling of what it was like to actually help someone. Reaching into his pack and pulling out three of the four packages and held them out for the girl to take.

The silence that brought a feeling of safety in this new world was quickly brought to an end, through the cracked window in the room sounds easily could be heard not too far from the place where the woman stood; there were sounds of moaning and groaning, coming from multiple zombies, and the distinct sounds of what could possibly be more than just a zombie. Those monsters can't whistle. With a low, annoyed noise similar to a growl, the darkly dressed female grit her teeth together before swiftly making her way to the other side of the house, opposite of where the noises came from. Human or not, she was not willing to get herself into any sort of interactions with others who would put her own life at risk, not if she could avoid it. Her presence didn't seem to be known, and she could slip away undetected.

The window was a bit difficult to pry open, but with some effort and precious time, it finally was shoved open enough for her skinny form to slip through with ease, and thankfully without much noise. The alleyway was empty, other than some fallen trashcans and a dumpster, her guard was not dropped however. Keeping her katana in her right hand at her hand, and the pistol aimed upward - even though she never used the thing, it seemed much more threatening - she made her way through the shadows caused by the two close by buildings, she darted towards the back but then turned left, bolting far from the noises while carefully not making any of her own with light footsteps.

In a way, this world was everything that was desired, finally. That did not mean that it was enjoyable, but at least it wasn't unbearable, all her effort that seemed so useless, well, to others at least, was finally paying off. In the way things were before, her skills were never able to be put to good use, but now she was probably better off than most. Running for quite some time with a good amount of stamina, she made it a good distance away before slowing to a calm walk, taking a few deep but even breaths. There was still enough energy to keep running if she chose, but having gone as far as she did, there was no need to waste all of it in one go when it wasn't needed then having none for later. Continuing the straight path down the side walk carefully, eventually her eyes rested on an old establishment, one made of brick and wood with a large sign over the door.

Pausing to stare at it for a moment, the hooded woman glanced around to ensure her safety from anyone possibly hiding in windows or shadows of the surrounding area, before going across the road and into the glass decorated doors of the bar. Once inside, the place seemed deserted, overturned chairs and tables, and empty bar stools at the wood counter. Releasing a breath similar to a sigh, momentarily her eyes glanced downwards, before taking in a breath and walking towards the seats, staring at one in particular. The place seemed deserted, untouched, surprisingly considering alcohol would be considered a delicacy, or an escape, the way things were. Most of the bottles were shattered, but a few were, though not full, still stood upright on the wall. She glanced around, but whisky seemed to be missing. Could that mean...?

Hearing noises from outside the home she was searching a little ways away, she decides to ditch the place having found nothing in the trashed house, and runs for a good bit, then coming upon a familiar bar that she decides to step inside and sees no one. She looks at the remaining alcohol and sees the whisky is one of the ones missing. She is unknowing of Astrid in the kitchen who is (I presume) being quiet in her search. Dark's entrance was quiet as well, so they both are probably oblivious that they're not alone anymore, lol.

She couldn't help but smile at the compliment of the map she had made. Her eyes traveled over to the map he had, examining it. “It’s definitely a lot more useful than mine here.” Katie shook her head at his words. "No, mine isn't complete - yours shows the forest as well." The small girl's index finger glided over the paper. tapping a blank space. "Still lots more to see." She informed. Her finger tapped a circle with an x in it drawn onto a building. "That means it's too dangerous to go in and xed out ones mean that I've been there." Katie said, holding a sense of pride in her work, no matter how pointless it might seem to someone else.

“So you’re with someone? Are they here with you, are they okay?” Katie nodded in response. "Jaime, that's my sister. Max too, he's our dog." She informed with a friendly smile resting on her face. "They're okay, Max is in the motel room and when I left, Jaime was going out to look for some stuff too. We were heading for... Georgia I think, but the truck broke down." Katie spoke in a light tone, soft and easy. Her eyes followed the man as he removed the backpack from his back, unzipping it. She couldn't help but wonder what was inside. "Really? Are you sure? I don't want to take food you need." Katie was excited to see that he had something, but worried that she'd be taking valuable supplies at the same time.

Blue eyes followed his hands as he removed brown packages from his backpack. She eyed them uneasily, wandering if it would be the right thing to take them. Realizing he had another for himself though, she gently took them from his hand. "Thank you so much, sir." She said, removing the small child-sized backpack from her back and tucking them inside. It was rather empty, only containing a bottle of water and half of a snack-sized bag of cheez-itz. After storing them safely in her backpack, she zipped it back up, pulling it back onto her shoulders. "If you don't mind me asking sir, have you met any other people? You're the first I've seen since the second day. But I've sort of been staying quiet."

Katie took a second to walk over to the window and peer out of it. There were a few zombies in the street, but she had always been able to outrun them. Luckily, she hadn't actually had to kill any yet. She had been in school when it all started, and Jaime took her out early. Since then, things seemed to move so slowly and everything seemed so empty. Katie's eyes followed one in particular, one that was missing a majority of the skin on the side of its face. Despite the gruesome sight, in the past few days, she had grown so accustomed to seeing such, it no longer churned her stomach.

xxxxSeemingly safe for the time being, other than the flesh-hungry monsters trying to claw their way into the building, Cinder stood up, and stepped into what seemed like a living room. Actually, it was a beautiful living room. It looked as if someone still lived there. Although, a thin layer of dust seemed to coat everything. It seemed highly likely that this house had been left alone until he had entered it. Then a thought hit him: what if there was food there? Food had been so scarce over the past week, he could use all of the calories he could get. And even better yet, a fancy place like that probably had some fine alcohol. One mustn't pass up an opportunity like that. Cinder's mouth had already begun to salivate when an abnormal sound pierced over the sounds of the banging, and scratching zombies. A whistle? Someone was alive outside. The banging and scratching had ceased, but the groaning continued. Loud clangs and thumps could be heard from beyond the door. Then something horrible occurred to him: what if someone was returning to their home? He would be killed almost immediately, no doubt about it. He needed to hide━ he needed a better weapon━ but most of all, he needed time.

xxxxCinder decided to abandon the idea of retrieving a better weapon, and swiftly opened a door near the front door. It was a coat closet. Cinder carefully climbed into it, shut the door, and nestled himself behind many dusty hanging coats. The sound of the front door's handle being turned caused Cinder's heart to nearly punch through his chest. The sound of someone speaking came from outside. He slowed down his breathing so that he couldn't hear it. Cinder almost felt guilty for intruding in their home. It was as if the horrible events that took place outside had chosen to leave this one place alone. But he needed to survive. The faint feeling of guilt had subsided, and all that was left was the need to run. He kept himself quiet, preparing for the inevitable confrontation. His sweaty palm squeezed itself to the handle of his hammer. 'I'm not going to die today.'

She had already done too much work to walk away from this home. So, instead of leaving, she moved over to the window next to the door. She peered inside, unable to see anything through the thin and narrow crack between the curtains. But that was a good thing, she didn't see any signs of life, exactly what she wanted. Readying her baseball bat once more, she swung the bat at the window, the glass shattering, accompanied by loud cracking noises. She then used the end of the bat to knock out any pieces she might get cut on. Once it seemed safe enough, she pulled herself in, making quite a bit of crunching noise as she stepped down onto the broken glass.

The place seemed untouched, which gave her more than enough hope that she might find something useful. She began wandering slowly, the bat ready in hand. The walls were adorned with beautiful paintings and the furniture was top notch. "Probably belonged to some rich old couple." She spoke quietly to herself. She quickly made her way to the kitchen, which seemed to lack the neatness of the rest of the house. It didn't look as if a stranger had ransacked it more than it looked like the owners of the place had quickly gathered up what they could before leaving. Jaime moved over towards the open cabinets peering in. It was mostly empty, but she spotted a can on the back of one of the shelves.

After grabbing it, she turned it over in her palm. Hominy. "Oh, delicious." She muttered. Not that she wasn't greatful to find food, it was better than nothing. Jaime removed the backpack from her shoulder, setting it on the counter and then placing the can inside. "Maybe I'll find a walker with tennis balls on the end, bet that'll be useful." Jaime quietly groaned. Who better to complain to than herself? She pulled the backpack back onto her shoulder and began walking through the house, examining the closed doors and trying to decide which to go into first.

                                                                              TL;DR

She immediately headed to the kitchen to find that it was mostly empty, but found a can of hominy. She is now beginning to wander the house..

SPC. Huang, Mishiranu
- 3rd Brigade Combat Team - 1st Cavalry -

▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬

tab “It’s no problem.” Mishiranu said with a smile that felt more natural on his face as he watched the girl stuff the MREs into her small backpack. It felt good, it was different from Afghanistan, people here trusted him easier, and people here seemed to trust the uniform. But maybe it was just because she was young and more than likely naive about the things that went on in the world. She couldn't possibly even begin to understand how cruel the world was, even before everything had gone to s**t and people started eating each other, and his countries own damn military bombing its own civilians without discretion. A hand clenched his assault pack tightly while he zipped it up and buckled the straps once again for extra protection in case a zipper ever came loose.

tab Taking a steadying breath he stood up, quickly slinging the assault back snugly onto his back, his gaze following the girl as she stepped up to the window. "If you don't mind me asking sir, have you met any other people? You're the first I've seen since the second day. But I've sort of been staying quiet." He shrugged slightly, mostly to himself as she was looking outwards onto the street. "Not much sadly, me and my fire team, we uh…” Just a little white lie, “We split up to cover more ground. I haven’t been able to get in contact with them though with our radios.” He told her, looking down at the small handheld radio tucked away on a pouch in the front of his vest, “But it has a really short radius of use and with these buildings it generally messes up the signals.” Mishiranu added, but he didn’t know why, he was instilling a possibility of false hope to meet more alive American Soldiers. When he knew exactly what happened to the 1st Cav and 10th Mountain, two of the strongest combat ready divisions in the states at the time.

tab Mishiranu sighed, he just needed to help her the best he could. “So you want to explore more and cross out some of those blank buildings on your map?” He asked, “I can lend a hand, I’m a Cavalry Scout, we’re meant to be sneaky. Although I guess announcing myself doesn’t exactly prove that huh?” He questioned with a small laugh, his hands once again resting on his unloaded weapon, “But I can always just protect you if things get hairy out there.” Mishiranu loaded a magazine into his weapon; he felt that he had earned some form of trust with the girl for her to not feel threatened with his action. Pushing the magazine till he heard the satisfying click of it locking into the magazine well, he held off on charging his weapon, he could do that when they ran into contacts. “I’m considered a pretty good shot if it comes down to it.” He added with a disarming smile, he would protect her, he swore to himself. At least until he got her back to her sister.

Stepping carefully around the zombie now completely dead on the floor, Astrid ignored the filth splattered on her jeans as she rummaged around the bar's kitchen. Moving as quietly and as quickly as possible, in case other zombies were lurking about, she opened each drawer and cabinet. To her dismay, the place seemed to have been cleaned out. The appliances looked to be in bad shape as well from years of use; old grease stains covered the stove top and ovens. It seemed as if nothing could be put to good use in the building, besides the remaining alcohol. With a soft sigh, the woman observed the area one more time before deciding to head back out to the main bar room for another sip of that whiskey she had opened moments previously. It wasn't exactly the best kind, but it worked as a decent pick-me-up.

Turning her back on the gruesome scene on the kitchen floor, Astrid pushed the kitchen door open and stepped out, her bat held loosely at her side. As she entered the main room, her movement ceased abruptly as a petite woman was spotted on the other side of the bar counter, observing the room. As their eyes locked on each other's, the red head raised her heavy bat to rest with a slight thud on her shoulder, not quite in a defensive position - the pose seemed casual - but at least it was up and at the ready in case she needed to use it. Quickly, her eyes swept over the woman a few feet away, from her black hair down to the weapons she carried. While the unknown female didn't exactly look like she could use the katana or gun she carried effectively, Astrid didn't doubt that she still could and was extremely wary of trusting this woman. Still, something needed to be said before any rash actions were taken, so Astrid voiced the first thing that came to mind with a hint of a smirk playing across her face.
                                "Care for a drink, sweetheart?"

Emotion: Cautious

Company: Dark

Whereabouts: A bar

{TL;DR}
Astrid searches the kitchen quietly and as fast as possible, while still being thorough, in case any other zombies are lurking. Unaware that Dark has just entered the building, she sighs after finding nothing useful in the room, and heads back out to the bar. Upon entering, she spots the stranger and lifts her bat so its clearly visible - not in a defensive stance per-say, but up on her shoulder in case it needed to be used at a moment's notice. Studying the woman quietly for just a moment, taking in her form and weapons, Astrid then says the first thing to comes to mind, with a slight smirk on her face.
