arrow Admiral Zeric Cain
Military Command Building, Vangar Prime
Urnoua System
It was late at night and Zeric entered the main control room at the Vangar Military base in the capital city. There was no one inside due to the time of day. A secondary control room was manned at all times, so this one would be shut down during the overnight hours. Zeric was here on a mission, he was going to hack into the secured military database and try to find some info he was searching for.
Zeric had no luck on his personal computer in his office, he was locked out from certain files, files that he would normally have access to. What he was doing now was illegal, and could cost him more than his career in the Dominion military.
Admiral Cain walked up to an array of servers that made up one of the back corners of the control room. He ran his fingers up and down the list of data drives that filled the server units. Once he found the one he wanted, he carefully pulled it out as he didn't want to damage it. Activating one of the consoles nearby, he placed the drive into a reader and waited for it to boot up. The drive would contain data from the day the attacks took place here in the capital. Also, since these drives carried only the hard data, it wasn't locked out and Zeric should be able to read it.
The screen flashed and up came a list of files, most were log entries and camera footage from the Magistrate's building. Pulling out a small data stick, Zeric inserted it into the console and began to copy files to the stick. He noted the transfer time would take five minutes, in that time he decided to open one of the files just to pass the time. The file opened on the screen and a full list of personnel that logged in and out of the building appeared. He quickly scanned the list, most of the names were people part of the Magistrate's staff or guard. He saw his name and the other high ranking officers from the military. There were only ten people logged in as guests, which was normal. He also noted the how many were members of the press.
Zeric glanced over at the timer, it displayed only a minute left. He looked back over at the list and found something strange. There was only two people that logged in and never logged out. Even with the chaos of the attacks, the guard and military made sure that everyone was properly logged in and out the next day. This raised red flags for the Admiral, these two people might be the Terran attackers or worse...
The files had finished transferring to the stick, Zeric removed it and placed it in his pocket. He replaced the data drive back into its spot in the server and shut everything down. Just as he was about to leave, he heard someone heading this way. Cursing under his breath he quickly entered one of the service closets and closed the door quietly. There was a small hole that he was able to see out of, he watched as two guards entered the room.
The guards were slightly confused as to why the doors to the control room were opened and not locked. They hit a switch that activated the lights and the entire room lit up. This was good, as the console that Zeric was using was still shutting down and the light from the display would have caused an alarm. The guards looked around the room, and noted that it was empty. One of the guards said that he was going back out, the other nodded and just stood at the doorway for a few more seconds.
Just when Zeric thought he was in the clear, the guard began to walk towards the very same closet he was in. Admiral Cain's heart began to race, he would only have to choices to make if that guard opened his door. One he could knock him out and escape, but this would raise more questions and a full on investigation. Second he could just surrender and lose his career and go to prison for the rest of his life. Both were options Zeric didn't want to take.
The guard stopped right at the door and looked around again, he looked down at the door and started to reach for the handle. A voice was heard from outside the room, it was the other guard telling him to leave and return to their patrol. The guard nodded and walked away, seconds later they were gone.
Letting out a big sigh and taking in a deep breath, Zeric opened the door and stepped out.
"That was close..." Zeric said to himself quietly.
Zeric made his way out of the control room and quietly back to the parking area. He got into his vehicle and left.
