"The summer of peace has come and gone, the fall of revolution nears its end."

The Teghelm defenses were broken due to a battering ram that somehow everyone had missed, allowing the demons to begin to pour into the city itself. Still, the Teghelm warriors pushed on, trying to drive the demons back. For them to be able to successfully defend the city, the flow of demons pouring out of the craters had to be stemmed. This in mind, Tiamat flapped her wings and began to head towards the craters, doing her best to avoid the projectiles being launched at her from the ranks of demons below her. A few managed to smash against the black scales that were still healing from the Battle of Madora, sending a wave of pain coursing through her body, though she did her best to ignore it. The pain subsided as a healing spell was cast on her, though from whence it came, Tiamat could not say.

As she neared the craters from where the demons were pouring out, the flames within her body began to rise towards her mouth once more. Another jet of flame poured from her open maw, this time directly into one of the craters from where the demons were coming out. Her attack finished, Tiamat moved out of the way and began to circle around the battlefield once more. The air suddenly became ladden with magic, alerting Tiamat that someone or something was about to cast a powerful spell. The skies parted not long after, and a beam of light fell from the sky, following the appearance of a ghostly lance. That wasn't magic she had seen before, so the Dragoness was curious. Unfortunately, there was no time to try and figure out where the spell had come from.

Another thing she noticed was that her medallion -magically melded with her scales because of her transformation- was burning within her chest. That meant that Talus was somewhere in Teghelm. She'd have to find him and make sure that he didn't get too hurt. Besides, they usually fought better as a pair than alone.

Auriel didn't respond to Rowin's question, limiting herself to looking away in embarrassment. Thankfully, Samantha unknowingly came to the rescue by asking her question, which Rowing promptly answered.

"Has it been so little time since we set out?" She said as she looked back at him, surprise on her face. Silence overtook her for a moment as her emerald eyes fell on the ground, wondering. "It feels like it's been an eternity..." Her words were more for herself than for anyone else there, but were still quite audible. So many things had happened in so short a time, it felt like it had been much longer than just two weeks. She had traveled further than she thought she would in her life, met the young heir to an important kingdom, nearly died, found out she was Prism, and was now bonded to a man who she had come to care for more deeply than anyone else in her entire life, all in the span of two weeks. It would have been almost too much for her to believe if she hadn't experienced it herself. And there was still much more to come in the following weeks, she was sure. The world was wrought with chaos and there would be much to do to set things right again. But first, they had to find Nadya, for Rowin's sake.

By the time she tuned back into the ongoing conversation, Rowin was asking if Samantha could take them to see Queen Elowen. The young woman seemed hesitant, but agreed to take them to her anyway.

"Have you met the Queen before, Rowin?" Auriel asked, curious, as they walked towards the castle.

The damage had been done though. and the carnage of the aftermath was strewn about the ground. Nimue never paid any attention to the corpses on a battlefield. To her, it was just the cost of war, but she did not intend to be included in the payment. They hardly had a time to rest, and the demon minions returned from whatever blasted holes they came from. Nimue slapped her forehead and growled out of utter annoyance. "Haven't these guys ever heard the phrase, 'biting off more than you can chew?'" She brought her golden sword forward and she glanced in Silmeria's directions. So she wasn't dead yet? Given that, dying herself was just out of the question. She ran towards the lines that were forming, and along the way she yelled over to her competitor (though Silmeria was probably unaware that they were playing a game).

"Silmeria! I have 38 kills already! You think you can keep up?" She turned her blonde head to Rinoa and she felt the need to explain to her the rules of the game. "Whoever gets the most kills gets treated to a lobster dinner by the losers. So you better not chicken out and die, got it?" She was aware of the dangers of the situation. This was her way of staying loose and "in the zone." Nimue came up from a low stride and slashed at the demons who got passed the line.

Queen Elowen was not expecting anymore guests. She had already seen many people requesting aid. She had already prepared for battle. She donned the traditional Rothenal armor that was unique to each warriors but held the same colours. Her hawk familiar flew overhead and kept its eyes on the city.

It just so happened, that as she was leaving the castle that she saw Auriel and Rowin. She slowed her pace and looked from face to face. It was unusual to see a male willingly coming into Rothenal but this male was different. She recognized him immediately as Rowin Silvend. A smile formed on her face and she clasped her hands together in front of her.

"Rowin Silvend. I was expecting you days ago. I was beginning to worry about you." She admitted. Her eyes moved to Auriel. The queen studied her for a little bit before speaking. "Lady Auriel?" Then her eyes flashed to Samantha. She had already spoken with many.Samantha was one of them. Slowly, they fell back on Rowin. She knew why he was here.

"Princes Nadya has requested that I give you shelter and food should you need it. She also told me to apologize to you for continuing on towards Teghelm without you. She felt she was needed else where and she wasn't far from the truth. She's in good hands. "

Most people expecting a fight don't expect anyone to run, and so, when Rowin took off with Auriel in tow, the poor knight of Faer was left standing with a slightly blank look on his face, lance in hand and a growling gryphon at his side. Somehow, this didn't surprise him. But there was no time to think. Left standing alone, Siegfried used his lance to jump up onto Horus' back and tapped the gryphon on the ribs, causing him to take off into the sky with a hard flap of his wings. "Sorry!" The knight called back as he waved and Horus dipped into the forest, quickly spotting the trail of Rowin and Auriel. Because of the thickness of the forest, they opted to stay grounded for now. In any case, at least they would be safe closer together.

The small group arrived at Rothenal not long after. Entering the city without a problem, Siegfried began to feel a bit uncomfortable. He accredited it to the spell around the city, but in his own mind, the countless female eyes staring at him made him feel....weird. Too much attention perhaps? He knew Horus didn't mind. The winged beast was relishing in the attention as young females would walk up to him and ask if they could touch his fur or his wings, requests that the knight had to deny out of fear of Horus trying to...well, eat one of them.

                                                        "Rowin!”

The sudden chirp of a voice caught Siegfried's attention before a girl came bounding out of the crowd, throwing her arms around Rowin's neck. She pulled back almost immediately, apologizing quickly to the company and being introduced as the Lady of Welhon. She bowed politely to both Auriel and himself. "Siegfried Kaiser, a pleasure to meet you, milady." Horus imitated the bowing motion, smacking the knight on the shoulder with his wing. "And this is my companion, Horus." The gryphon cawed softly, a smug look on his face as the other three began to exchange words. Siegfried glared at the beast at his side, idly strapping his lance to his back before he heard Rowin ask for an audience with the Queen. He sorely hoped Nadya was still here, or he knew the swordsman would have his head for breakfast.

They had barely made their way towards the castle when a regal figure emerged from the gates. Despite being dressed in armor, the grace and elegance of the woman could only belong to someone of Royalty. Sure, Siegfried had heard tales of the beauty of the women of Rothenal, but all that paled to the Queen. She seemed not to notice him at first, which was something he was starting to get used to, so he took it into his own hands to introducing himself. As it was usual, he knelt down on one knee, his right fist on his chest and his head bowed.

"Queen Elowen, I do not believe we have met. It is a privilege to stand in your presence. I am Siegfried Kaiser, of the Wings of Faer." Once again, he was smacked by Horus. ]"And this is Horus..." When he rose to his feet, the Queen said something that made him flinch. "Princess Nadya has requested that I give you shelter and food should you need it. She also told me to apologize to you for continuing on towards Teghelm without you. She felt she was needed else where and she wasn't far from the truth. She's in good hands. " Nadya was gone? She was in Teghelm? That was....at least a couple days away on horseback. Siegfried took a cautionary step away from Rowin, hopefully without him noticing and stood beside Horus.

xxx ⋮↱ Returning to Madora was like coming back to an abusive girlfriend that wanted nothing but your emotional suffering, but you loved her nonetheless. The large man had been here for a couple days already. Ever since his return from the trip gone bad to rescue people who apparently didn't want to be rescued, he had been helping rebuild the city from the last attack. They were short on hands, despite having received reinforcement from Teghelm some days back. There had been many funerals, complications while rebuilding, lack of materials, you name it. By the second day, Cain was tired, but continued to diligently work alongside all the other able bodied men and women. He often thought about what his next step was. With everything going on in Arlen as of late, it seemed irresponsible to turn a blind eye and go about his life like nothing was happening. Somehow he knew that he'd end up involved in this whole conflict either way, but until then, there was something that had to be done.

There were various people he could speak to regarding the whole thing. He could probably try to find Tathriel, though he knew the mage was most likely already traveling North. Catching up to him was improbable. Then there was always hunting down Tiamat and seeing if she knew anything. His personal vendetta would have to wait until the world wasn't on the verge of ending. Aside from all that, there was the whole problem of the Veelan Demons and the face behind it all. Whoever had attacked Madora had done so looking for something, and if they had gotten it, who knew what was next? The city could very well be attacked tomorrow and they wouldn't be able to predict it. There were a couple other people that he could think of that might be able to point him in the right direction or at the right people and that was Seocan. That Bard knew a lot more than he ever let on, and though he spoke in riddles and songs (this Cain found to be really annoying), he was nonetheless a priceless (only figuratively speaking) source of information. So that's what he opted for. The mercenary found himself in the Moonstruck Pub, a cool glass of mead in his hand and a nearly untouched meal before him. He took a drink, emptying the rest of the contents before he signaled one of the wenches over to him. The woman came quickly, there were still many customers to attend to.

"The Bard, Seocan. I need to speak with him."
Cain slipped a coin into the girl's apron and she nodded, bounding off to find the requested party as the mercenary took a deep breath and leaned back on his seat.

The heavenly lance lit up the dark sky for a moment before crashing down atop its target. The bearers of the battering ram simply ceased to exist after the tremendous magic attack voided their presence. The large battering ram itself was split and burst into a large flame that engulfed several demons that were in its proximity.

The warriors about the field took began to show their prowess even against the elite soldiers of Greed. The minions were struck down and began to fall before the brave and the powerful.

The lines were miraculously holding, and the demon minions had become desperate in their siege. They climbed over their dead brethren and jumped in the air towards the guards. Many were skewered by long lances while the others were deflected directly into the flames of the Crimson Riders and that of the Legendary Dragoness. A loud booming call came from a commander of the legion, but were cut short by the return of the black-striped tiger who rejoined the battle to maul several in his path.

                  “MAKE SAVE THE CITY!!!”

The Teghelm guard ROARED as a rush of armored men and woman joined those fighting within to clear out those who had managed to pass through. Cloven demon shields and spears were strewn upon the ground at the hands and feet of the fallen. The shift of advantage had quickly changed banners with a loud explosion in the deep.

Tiamat’s flame torched the crater and it erupted with dark and volatile energy. Countless demons flew into the air and a shockwave shot throughout the territory as the crater crumbled into itself. Within second, the other craters bellowed and sent similar shockwaves in a vicious domino effect.

The Demons looked back almost simultaneously and shouted in a bone-chilling unison. All that was left were the few hundred that remained scattered about the field, but they would not retreat. They beat their armored chests and crouched into offensive stances before charging once more with reckless vigor. The Teghelm guard met their charge head on and crossed blades to stand honorably within the nightmare of war.

Sehaera Lyrah lay upon the ground, wounded, and holding onto what little life she had left. Teryn moved to her side, all while being watched by the blood-thirsty minions of Greed. One of the commanders stabbed a dueling guard and kicked him aside as he made his way to them. Behind him was a small brigade- bloodied with red eyes. They howled and charged Teryn while the Commander lifted his flat blade and drove it down atop Sehaera.

"The summer of peace has come and gone, the fall of revolution nears its end."

The battlefield glowed orange and red and yellow. The fields were ablaze with the fires sparked by the Crimson Riders and Tiamat's dragon breath, enveloping the combatants in a blanket of almost unbearable heat. The craters were ablaze as well; no more demons were likely to appear from there. Tiamat nodded to herself, pleased. That should stem the flow of enemies for a while.

Changing the course of her flight, she headed back towards the city. Smoke would have clouded her vision but, being a creature of fire, her body was prepared to deal with its consequences. Her double eyelids protected her against the otherwise damaging smoke and her massive lungs were specially designed to be able to allow her to breathe properly even in the presence of heavy smoke. She knew, however, that the children in the ground were unable to do so. Directing her body higher into the sky, Tiamat flapped her massive wings several times, creating a whirlwind that cleared some of the smoke from the battlefield. That would allow the others to breathe a little easier until the smoke settled again. In the meantime, she had to continue the fight.

Approaching the wall once more, she once again shifted back towards her human form. Their previous push had cost the demon army quite a few casualties. The battle would be over soon, she assumed, since no more demons would be able to use the now-flaming craters to arrive. No doubt their tunnels were flooded with her flames as well. As she ran towards where she felt Talus' presence, she hoped that the enemy general would appear soon. If they could kill it now, that'd be one less asset in the Demon King's army.

Tiamat ran through the ranks of both Teghelm soldiers and demons, her sword hacking through the mass of bodies. Before long, she had spotted Talus in his hybrid form, slashing with his ivory claws. She quickly rejoined him, a smirk on her face.

        "Enjoying yourself, I hope?"

It was a rhetorical question, more than anything. They were dragons, after all. They were strength and power in its raw form, wild, and found it hard to stop once they had begun fighting. Such were the woes of creatures so susceptible to becoming lost in the thrill of battle. But such things were acceptable to Tiamat. All she had known since long ago was battle and blood.

Not long after she joined her partner, a group of demons thought it appropriate to try and flank her. One came from the front, its blow parried with Rhaegar's midnight sword. The one from behind would find itself surprised as the air shimmered behind Tiamat before her spiked tail surfaced. From the front and after her parry, Tiamat stabbed forward at the demon in close proximity while simultaneously smacking her tail into the demon behind her. The bone spikes in her tail were thick but sharp, not unlike her claws or teeth. They would pierce any armor just as well as her sword would.

Teryn's sudden bolt did not go unnoticed by the group. They all watched her as she took off. None of them had witnessed the four spirit fall. Tahl looked deeply concerned. He took a step back from the demons and Tyko did the same. They knew something was wrong.

Up upon the wall, Sehaera Lyah held her wound. To her, it was as if time stood still. Everything slowed and Teryn's voice echoed in her mind. Light headed, the woman looked to her. There were many Teryn's in the place of one. Beads of sweat rolled down her forehead as she tried to shake her head.

"It..." She panted and slowly fell to her side. Where she lied a bright white light shown. It would blind anyone near by. As it dimmed, a young teenager appeared. She was unharmed but weak. To her right was a familiar child. No older than eight with an arrow pierced through her heart. Both were motionless. One finally moved; the older of the two. She groaned as she slowly opened her eyes. She knew the moment she was concious that something was wrong. She turned her head to see the young Aera laying next to her with her eyes closed.

"N-n-no!!!" Seh Lyah rolled to her side and moved to the child. She pulled her onto her lap and began touching her face. She tried desperately to heal the girl but nothing worked. "Aera!!!! Wake up! No! Wake up Aera! Don't! No! Aera?!" The panic in her eyes was evident. They could feel her light fading. "ASPEN!!! ASPEEEEEN!!!!!!!" Seh Lyah howled out. "I NEED A HEALER!! I NEED A HEALER!" Tears were pouring down her face as she touched the side of the girl's face. "Come on Aera! Come on! Wake up!"

Aspen and Leaf were on their way towards their friend when they heard the painful cry of Seh Lyah. Both of them recognized the sound. It was Seh Lyah. Aspen immediately darted off without thinking. The consequences of her actions caused something to knock her to the ground. She fell painfully on her arm but her brother was there in seconds, defending her and slashing his way through the demons that blocked their path.

Aspen climbed to her feet, ignoring her own pain. She rushed up the stairs and to her friends. Upon arrival, her heart sank. The elf, keeping her head down, moved to their aid. She placed her hands on the girl but nothing happened. She concentrated all her energy into her but still, nothing happened. Her hands started to shake and she pulled back. Her eyes wide and watering. At this point, her brother made it to the top of the stairs. His body went stiff as he watched on, helplessly.

Seh Lyah looked from Aspen to her brother then to Teryn. She moved her eyes from friend to friend before shaking her head desperately. "N-no! Do something!"

"Seh...Ly....Ah, she is beyond healing. You already knew this."

"NO! There has to be something!!! NO!" The girl screamed, pulling her 'sister' close to her ignoring the arrow. She rocked back and forth, holding her closely.

Leaf looked down to Tyko and Tahl and made a hand gesture to suggest a fallen companions. The two of them fought their way to the stairs, keeping the demons at bay.

Tahl was the first to arrive of the two. He kept his head down and moved to their side. He took Aera out of her sister's arms and began to carry her away. Seh Lyah tried to fight him off but knew it was best. She was shaking, weak and blinded with tears. Aspen directed her friend back towards the stairs where they would head to the medic tent.

Once they were out of the main area, leaving Teryn and Tyko at the back. Tahl turned and lifted Aera into Aspen's arms. "Meet with Nadya and Tikiya. See to it that Seh Lyah gets help. We will not let her die in vain."

Aspen took Aera. The child weighted very little which allowed her to support the weakened Seh Lyah. A few soldiers saw them and went to their aid. They helped the 'children' off the battle field, confused as to why there were such young children fighting.

The demons were being driven back, yet they would not give up this conflict. They were obviously routed, yet they continued to press forward, as if this last push against such overwhelming odds could help them achieve victory. As it was, all it was going to achieve was the death of them, and even more humans and their allies. Such a waste.

Talus could feel the medallion heat up as Tiamat approached, asking him if he was enjoying himself. While it was true that a part of him was, he also felt disgusted at this waste of lives. "Yes, but the enjoyment is fleeting. All I see are wasted lives. Lives cut short because of this war." As Talus looked out among the battlefield, something pulled at him. A memory. He was waking, amidst a field of blood, and across from him, a young woman, who's eyes and hair were the color of that blood, which stained the ground for miles, and was a match to his own.

Shaking the memory off, he chuckled as the demon's attempted to flank Tiamat and himself. The look of surprise on the demon's face was amusing to Talus as his arm burst through the demon's chest, bits of heart and lung and several pints of blood dripping off Talus' extended claw, before a quick tug ripped the demon in half. His other hand casually ripped the snarling visage off another demon's face, dropping that demon to the ground next to his comrades. "Let's just hope our allies don't turn to attack us next. They still don't trust us fully."

For those, magic is best. And I'm not totally helpless," he said, patting his staff that doubled as a walking stick. "This enchanted staff will stand up to almost any weapon. It's highly enchanted with powerful magics that I dare not attempt to use again. And as for liquor... not now. Not until my magic is under control again."

Then she asked about the Queen and Rothenal. "I spent a century in Rothenal, before going to Madora. I spent the time magically disguised as a woman, and the Queen's aide. I had to continually cast powerful protective magic in layers around me in order to keep the curse at bay while I worked. It was only recently that I had left to find out more. As to why?" Talus looked up at the sky, remembering the color of blood that was there. The color that gave rise to fear, and despair to many living in this world.

"Because the people need hope. The people need to know that there is a reason to keep living. The Curse of Rothenal is something that is long in the memory of man, and Elf. Something that has always been. I'm going to make sure that hope is given back to the people. And, we need all the allies against the demon kin we can get, and if men can enter Rothenal without fear of a deadly curse, then that morale boost will help our cause. And it will hurt the Demon King's, knowing that someone was able to break such a powerful curse."

The way Sehaera looked up at her scared Teryn. She almost didn't notice the group of minions heading towards them as the four spirit fell. She barely had time to step in the way to block the commander's strike. Pushing the demon's blade out wide, she stepped in and pushed him back, stabbing at his neck in the process. A bright light came from behind her and stung her eyes. It did no harm to the minions around them so she had to look back and see what had caused it.

At first she did not believe what was there. Her eyes locked on the arrow lodged in Aera's chest. She had only a few seconds to realize what had happened when the first demon struck her, demanding her attention again. With tears stinging her eyes, she stumbled back and struggled to defend herself against the others. Seh Lyah's cries echoed in her ears as she tried to concentrate on simply holding the demons at bay. Teryn didn't want to see what was going on behind her, she didn't want to think about it. The halfblood never wanted any of them to get hurt but the fact that it was Aera hit particularly hard.

Being some of the only ones on the main field outside the castle walls, the ten women were slowly being cut down. Kala, who was in charge of the group ordered the surviving women to fall back. The blazes would keep the demon minions off them until they could regroup and regain their energy.

The moved back into the wall of soldiers. Those who were able continued to fight on. Those that could not were taken to the medics tent. Those few warriors argued and fought for they wanted to die in battle not on a bed.

Kala moved swiftly upon her horse before dismounting within the city. She drew her bow and began to accurately shoot any demons that crawled on the walls. The other riders began to take aim to clear the city of any surviving demons.

They walked through the vast courtyard at the heart of the city where Samantha had just convened with her allies that had all gone by now. Though it was a memory that was quite recent, the place seemed so much more foreign now that they were gone. She could feel Rowin’s eyes on her back, and when she became aware of it, she felt herself wishing that she had not offered to take the lead. She suddenly became conscious about the manner in which she walked- whether or not she was doing it right at all. The young woman found herself in much more noble company that that of cows and horses as she was most accustomed to. Not knowing any better, she turned and smiled at the group.

“So… Did you guiys know that there’s supposed to be a curse on this place, or something? Only females can live here. Can you imagine?’

Rowin’s amber gaze pierced her and she flinched, finding that she could not turn her gaze away faster. She had only meant to break the silence, but feared that she had said something offensive instead. The former human Captain offered her a slight solace in nodding his head.

“It is a curse that has existed long since one can remember. It is believed that the Dragonkin Guardian, Lyndi the Violet, set the curse upon these lands. Yet it is the same power that protects it. Any race or kind of male cannot live here. Even as we speak, Master Kaiser and I are under its effect.”

A looked of worry suddenly came to Samantha’s face. She looked between Siegfried and Rowin and she opened her mouth to speak, but could only stutter slightly before Rowin continue.

“It is unlikely that there will be any long-term effects should we only stay briefly.”
“Oh.. Thank the Goddess, I was worried there for a second.”

Samantha soon realized that many of the citizens of Rothenal had matriculated towards the courtyard as if to get a look at the males that had entered their city. Some of them looked at them as if they were monsters, some looked at them as pests, and others looked with quiet desire. Rowin’s amber gaze remained dull and direct as if he could care less who or what was looking at him. When Auriel spoke, his head turned to her and he nodded.

“Yes, I have. A very long time ago. When I was a child, I was taken here after we visited Emrys. The Forest of Life was much larger then, and much greener. I also recall there being more guards…”

Of course, Rowin was unaware that a good portion of the Kingdom’s guard had gone to Teghelm’s aid. They only traveled about a quarter mile further before Queen Elowen was seen in the near distance. The mostly elfin population bowed their heads to the Queen as she spoke, and Rowin did the same. He expected Siegfried to follow suit as well.

“I apologize for our late arrival, Your Highness.”

Before Rowin could ask about Nadya, it appeared as though the Queen had already known that he would. The black-haired male went silent. Though his posture remained unfazed by the news, the slight flinch of his brow would offer difference.

                                          “I see…”

Silence. Long Silence. Rowin was frozen in time as he stood before the Queen. Yet Auriel would hear a much different reaction- another facet of their new bond that he had yet to learn how to conceal.

“With all the stubbornness of an acre of mules! Does she want to get herself killed? Does she even understand the significance of her safety? She’ll have me chasing her around all of Arlen and not think a single thing of it! Of all the-!!”

His mind scrambled- having been rendered into such frustration that his thoughts were far too frequent and rapid to translate into any words. Yet still, he remained without a single hint to what was occurring in his mind.
